Good Morning,
I think it is so special that ALL of you wanted to wish US a HAPPY BIRTHDAY on January 1st! TASTY and I were so busy…..we literally forgot to send wishes to each other! So, we took some time this morning to do that. As many of you already know, thoroughbred race horses have two birthdays… the actual one stating the day he or she was born that is recorded on his/her Jockey Club Papers….and then the ‘technical’ one which has ALL thoroughbreds celebrating a birthday and becoming one year older on January 1st of each year.
Thus, I am ‘technically’ 8 for industry purposes…..but I am still 7 per my real birthdate of April 1st. I must say, I do feel I look terrific, have maintained my glowing coat no matter what the weather conditions, and my body is still quite ‘fit’ and handling this ‘baby weight’ very well! Blush, Blush!
TASTY was born on March 26, 2006….so she turned 6 on the 1st. If our foals are cooperative, and are born ‘on time’…(they say first foals can be rather independent and do their own thing, so we’ll see)…then TASTY and I will both be MOMS before our actual birth dates.
In reading the DIARY comments, you are ALL becoming VERY ASTUTE at what is going on with our ‘in foal status’ and the foaling process. I was commenting to TASTY this morning that we are 2 very fortunate horses. Our foals are going to have about 180,000 feet pacing about in different communities around the country when we get ready to have our babies…and about 95,000 plus NANNIES!
LUCKY US!
On another note, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to each of you who may have celebrated a birthday over the holiday! Also, in reading the comments, I’m so happy to hear that so many of you who have had some health concerns or been dealing with them with members of your family are ‘doing better’. ALL BLESSINGS to you and your families!
Have a terrific day! Don’t forget….RAPID REDUX is entered today at Laurel in their 6th race…going for #22. I’m sending him a big HIGH HOOF and wishing him the best!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Happy Birthday Zenyatta and Tasty!

May be an April 1st filly for Zenyatta? Deja vu.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
That would be rather late. She’s due March 7 or thereabouts, based on a 340-day gestation. It is possible she could go that long. I think if that happens, we will all have pulled out our hair by then.
Especially Horses / Southern California
I’m already anxious for a safe delivery and healthy foal…so yes, if there is a prolonged gestation, I’ll be pullen out hair and sweating bullets. On pins and needles, in anticipation, but so happy “we” are in the final stage of the mommy countdown and looking forward to March 1 and the final few days thereafter.
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
Oh my, I sure agree!!! I would not want to see Zenyatta go much beyond the 7th of March. I don’t want to have to increase my blood pressure mg medicine either. Most importantly, It Is All About ZENYATTA and her baby.

Hi Zenyatta,
Happy 1st Birthday!!! I can’t wait to start pacing and to be an Auntie to Baby ZEE BEE!!! I am so excited I can’t wait for time to go by just a little faster.
I hope all is well with you and that you are enjoying this time.
Hugs – Auntie Gloria Jeanne

Happy Birthday and Happy New Year to both you and Tasty. Excellent photo of both of you. You always look very beautiful in your photos. Same for Tasty. There are indeed many people who are anxiously awaiting the births of your foals. So happy that you have a good companion like Tasty. Let us know how Pirate Queen and the others are doing if you can.

Oh, no! Thanks for posting the news. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. I’ve felt for a while that he deserved to have a better chance with more horses based on his long association with Mr. Frankel, in other words I hated to see it when they pulled so many of his good horses away after Mr. Frankel passed away.

Zenny & Tasty: This is a BEAUTIFUL photo of the two of you. GREAT NEWS about Rapid Redux!!!! It’s about time the ECLIPSE people started recognizing horses like this gutsy, handsome gelding — wouldn’t it have been great if Pepper’s Pride had been acknowledged too?

Laurel Park on its official Twitter account posted that owner Robert Cole confirmed that Rapid Redux will start Wednesday’s sixth race as expected. The sixth race has a post time of 2:56 p.m.
Maryland Jockey Club’s Mike Gathagan said on his Twitter account that Rapid Redux will be part of a field of five after three horses–William’s Prayer, Walkin’ Boss, and Ninth Client–scratched.
Trainer David Wells said Tuesday that Rapid Redux, who passed Horse of the Year Zenyatta and New Mexico-bred standout Peppers Pride for the modern consecutive wins record by a U.S.-based horse, may miss the race after grabbing a quarter while training.

What an awesome change!!!! Great job on the new site. Happy Belated birthday to all that turned a year older on the first. Some of us are down playing the b’days now. Mine is Feb. 21 and they seem to be rolling around quicker every year. Someone once said time passes quicker as you get older. So it seems. We have just had our first really cold weather the last 2 days my guys were not impressed. My oldest mare will celebrate her 30th birthday the first weekend in April. Cold and her don’t get along so well, but she was fiesty and ready to go out this morning. Have a great day to one and all.

I love this picture of you and Tasty, Zenny! I do hope it will be offered for sale in your store. Absolutely beautiful! And you are correct – we are awaiting your foal as much as you or anyone on Team Z is! Tell me, Zenny, aside from being healthy, are you hoping for a colt or a filly? I’m kind of wishing for a filly, one who will bring fillies and mares back into the forefront of racing, just like her momma did!
Love you, Sweet Zen!
Brenda S..Ontario, Canada
Thanks for the lovely photo Zenny, you both look very well and quite matronly. I’m guessing that since you forgot your thoroughbred birthday you didn’t get a cake to remind you. I took some pears to the barn last Friday when Vic had her lesson, there are a couple of TBs there, and so they got a treat to celebrate the new year and their birthdays. They all enjoyed the pears, there was much lip licking.
It would be wonderful if you both foaled at the same time and your little ones became good friends, just like their Mommies. I am really hoping that you and Tasty stay together and that you are not bred right away, I’d love to see you both get some time to get used to being a Mom. Hugs and kisses Zenny, stay warm and cosy.

here is a late breaking story re: Rapid Redux winning a special award!!!!! …..http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/national-news/2012/01/04/rapid-redux-wins-special-eclipse-award.aspx The news is a bit conflicting since he “grabbed a quarter” I hope he is 110% tomorrow or if not, let him retire on TOP!!!!.
AND FOR YOU GORGEOUS QUEEN AND BEST FRIEND, THIS PICTURE TOOK MY BREATH AWAY THIS MORNING. THAT IS THE TRUTH. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Zenny, you and TT sure look very happy and healthy. You’ re quite right…about 95,000
nannies will be pacing the floor when your time is finally here. So sweet…just the thought of a foal resting at your side.

Not so “late breaking…. sorry, so many people saw it too and linked it. Oh well, it is great news for the little guy…… Was going to read most of the entries later. Sorry about the repeat.

Oh Z….what a beautiful picture of you and Tasty ……I have put it as my background. I told you that you are always on my computer …you are the first thing I see when I turn it on. Tomorrow is my birthday. I will be 65…. there was a time I would never have wanted to be this old…but life has a way of changing things when you are healthy and happy. I do not mind it one bit. Life is good and I see it is really good for you and Tasty. Yes you will have many nannies watching over you all. It will be so exciting to see you and your baby together and of course Tasty’s too. I am keeping you and Tasty in my prayers that all goes well with your foals. You are so beautiful Z….. hugs to you.

Mary, wishing you an early and very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! I don’t want to miss it tomorrow. What a great attitude! I always believe you are as young as you feel!

@Terry Crow and @All Rednecks – I have broken a Redneck rule. I took my Christmas lights down on New Years Day. What can I do to clear my status before January 27?
Gloria
I feel like I’m already pacing for your foal, Big Mama Z! I know it’s a ways off, but I will be thinking about you all of the time starting in March. Of course, if first foals have a mind of their own, maybe you could get it over with early and surprise us in a diary entry and we won’t need to pace at all! If, however, junior comes late, sigh…I will be a nervous wreck! Looking great in the photo too! Pretty girl! XOXO and love to your connections!

Happy birthday to you two pretty girls! What beauties you are with the lovely rolling hills of Kentucky behind you. I hope your darling babies aren’t kicking you too much as they continue to grow in your bellies. Can’t wait to see them!

Hi Zenny: Just a quick note. I am writing from work. I am having problems with my keyboard on my home computer.
You and Tasty look beautiful and slim for being this far along. You are right; every one of us will be pacing the floor when you are about do. It is going to be a very exciting time.
You mentioned that you have some exciting news to tell us!! It is something that all of us have been asking about. I am tapping my toes trying to think what it might be. I think I can take a guess. I think YOUR John is going to tell us when Ebby might enter her first race! It’s just a guess.
Ingrid in MA
Lookng at videos of Ebby training at the track, I’d say she’s not ready for a real race yet. Still very impulsive. Oh,she likes to run, just faster than they want her to for training purposes. She’s still young yet,and just began training, so I’d think John wouldn’t race her yet. I don’t think she’s met the gates yet, either, I’m sure someone here will know about that.
