Good Morning,
I hope all of you had a fabulous weekend. Mine was extremely pleasant and I really enjoyed getting to spend time in my new paddock and stall.
I wanted to share with you THE VIEW I have while I’m out grazing and relaxing in the field. It is terrific! I can literally see everything going on everywhere at the farm. You know I love this… I never want to miss a thing!
TASTY and I have so much room to stretch our legs and enjoy the sunshine. The weather has really been ‘cooperative’ lately. It is not nearly as cold in Lexington as it was last winter when I arrived here.
The weekend’s sporting events were ‘extremely competitive’. I’d mentioned on Friday that I love CLOSE FINISHES… and one could not have asked for a more exciting finish to a SUPER BOWL game than the one we had yesterday. The excitement and contention went down to the last few seconds… and the very last play! The Giants and the Patriots both played very well and had exceptional seasons! Congratulations to each… and a special HIGH HOOF to the N.Y. GIANTS on their victory! What a thrill for them to win 2 of the last 4 Super Bowls! This is a remarkable achievement!
As for my sport, what a weekend of great stakes activity. I’m sending my heartfelt congratulations to all of the winners! My BARN 55 pal, Mr. Commons, deserves a HIGH HOOF from ME for his victory in the Arcadia Handicap (G2). The 3 year old stakes around the country are starting to add some excitement to the Derby picture these days. I must compliment my guy, BERNIE, on the recent victories by some of his top 3 year old colts on the Road to the TRIPLE CROWN. Last week, Algorithms won the Holy Bull (G3) at Gulfstream and Saturday Alpha won the Withers Stake (G3) at Aqueduct! YEAH, BERNIE!
This is all so exciting!
Several people stopped Dottie at Santa Anita on Saturday asking about ME! Thank you so much! To answer several of the questions:
1) I am due at the beginning of March. Being that it is my first foal… one never knows if I will be late or early. I will definitely keep you posted as the month progresses as to how I am doing and ‘any changes’ in my ADORABLE BODY! (Blush, Blush!)
2) I do not know whether I am having a colt or a filly. No one does! My owners like to be ‘surprised’… so they do not have the tests done on their mares to determine this. So… we will ALL find out at the same time.
I must say… not knowing does add a definite element of EXCITEMENT to all of this.
3) TASTY is on the same exact schedule as I am… as we both conceived on the same day… April 3rd. She is in foal to Candy Ride.
4) I am with ALL of my same loving caretakers at my new barn. So is TASTY. This makes it so comfortable for us!
Thank you for asking!
From my new home to yours… here’s wishing you a very happy MONDAY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

He is such a handsome boy! Boy oh Boy, Zen, your Bernie is really doing a wonderful job at being the MAN! Wouldn’t it be awesome for a Bernie Colt to win the Derby the same year your lil one arrives?

Happy Monday Zenny! Glad that you’ve been having a mild winter. Want you and Tasty to be as comfy as possible. You brought us so much excitement and joy when you were racing and now you’re bringing a whole new kind of excitement and joy. Looking forward to the new little Zee Bee! (The football team at my son’s high school is called the fighting Zee Bees). Z for Zenyatta and B for Bernie – go team!
Congrats to Mr. Commons! Please ask Dottie and John if they’d considering bringing him to Arlington Park. I frequent Arlington and would absolutely love to see Mr. Commons run there – the Secretariat or Arlington Million perhaps? Just a thought.
Ingrid Arnone. South Beach.
Lillian L, yes that race can be a very good one for Mr. Commons, congratulations to him he ran great on Saturday, Ingrid.

Thank you for the updates. Just wondering if you have picked out a “girl’s” name and a “boy’s” name yet?

Loved the picture of your new paddock Z! I just want Dottie, John and the Moss’s know how much I appreciate their generosity in having this page to let all of us know what is going on with you since you retired from racing and have moved onto a new phase in your career. We can lose sight that this is a special privilege extended to your fans. I look forward to hearing of your safe delivery whenever that day arrives. Enjoyed the game by the way, nail biter, the way I like them!

Dearest Z– love the picture/ As Always, thanks for the updates. WOuldn’t it be something if you and Tasty went into labor at the same time??
I must be a complete nitwit. I nearly missed this diary post because I thought I was catching up on the one from the weekend, wondering what caused the ear comments. Then, lo and behold, I saw this new entry. Foal watch is making me crazy. LOL!

awwe big neck hugs..I am amazed at how fast this time has gone! Goodness..not much longer..! so happy and excited for you.. xo

You have a wonderful view from your new paddock and I am sure that you and your gal pal, Tasty are enjoying it to the hilt. So nice that the weather is good there, and not very cold and no snow-much more pleasant and of course makes for better grazing.
Glad your weekend was great, mine was too, and I enjoyed the races, especially watching Mr. Commons take his race and cross the finish line first, he truly is one heck of a champion!
Sure looking forward to the birth of your baby, and bet that everyone around you are getting quite excited. Take care of yourself and enjoy each and every moment. You sure sparkle brighter than any star up above and I bet that your little one will outshine everyone! Sending my Love & Blessings!
Rachel
Zenny,
You sure have a great view! Thanks for sharing with us your wonderful progress. I wish you and Tasty the best as you go through the next month. I’m sure your baby will keep everyone one their toes and waiting with eager anticipation. I’m sure the foal will come at exactly the right time.

I can hardly wait to meet you Terry, you go from strength to strength. I’m thinking I may need to buy some Depends for Santa Anita – I’ll be laughing all day.

I’m not nearly as funny in person, unless you count my looks.

You are a kick.. I can’t stop laughing. Depends for the races. LOL

@Terry crow…I am sure you & I are related…set the darn thing off last week…drove the hubby out of the house…thank goodness for the mild winter…opened all doors & windows ….smoke cleared in minutes…no fire trucks necessary

I really did not realize that Utah was so redneck. A beautiful state with wonderful people, but redneck? Does Wilford Brimley still have a ranch there?

Hey, Terry! Utah is my home state – watch it LOL I moved to California in 1968 :-)
Ann Moss is also from Utah, so watch the redneck jokes :-)))))

Really love all of these, Terry.
Hope you see my one above about a lovely Texas redneck adventure going

It was bewlidering. My daughter is married to a Marine Corps helicopter pilot who used to be stationed near Fort Worth. Why on earth are there Marines in Texas?

Terry, once in a while I have reused a paper plate if not too messed up! I thought you were going to say you can identify your friends by their SMELL!! ha ha
Great ones!!

Hilarious! Some are getting too close to home. LOL! I missed your jokes Terry. You always make me laugh and laugh. I pray that your life will be filled with all the Joy and laughter you give to all of us daily.

Kari, “too close to home” prob’ly means you can start telling some more yourself, when you’ve got the urge to write.
Terry Crow
Kari-Always good to hear from you. And, as Vicki says, I’m sure you could come up with some that are better than mine just from your personal experiences and observations, not to imply that anybody from Tennessee was an inspiration.

STREET CRY: 5
BERNARDINI: 6
:-D
Ingrid Arnone. South Beach.
Dear JAG, they are both just incredible studs, can you imagine our Z baby the way he or she is going to be, I hope the best horse ever, hugs Ingrid.
signofthetimes
Dear Ingrid;
There is a colt named Consortium that is a proto type of Zenny’s foal; Sire is Bernardini; Dam is sired by Machiavellian, Street Cry’s sire. Keep and eye on
him and we may see a champion soon to unfold. Judy B did a great in depth analysis of Consortium’s pedigree, much more in depth that mentioned here.
Terry Crow
Consortium is indeed a good horse and could be on the triple crown trail. His last race was against Hanson and was on an off track. He has a future.
Georgia Harper< Seattle, WA
Dear Z, just catching up on the last couple posts. You and Tasty look so beautiful and so happy you are together with all the same people.
Thanks Abagail for the video that was beautiful and I know Zenny you will be just as kind and gentle a mother. Can’t wait for the good news when you and TT have your babies. Does Tastey know what she is having ??
Thank you Sarah for all your wonderful pictures
love and hugs to all
Nancy
Dear Zenyatta: Today I’m sending you my choice of a name for your baby. I know the Mosses like to use musical terms, so I think “Staccato” would be good for a colt or filly – it is musical, and it means sharp and fast.
So glad you have a beautiful view to see every day and that Tasty is there right with you. Best wishes to you both and to all your loving caretakers.
Judy from South Carolina
Nancy……………love it!

Big Z.,
So glad you and Tasy are doing so well!!! A Nernie baby AND a Candy Ride baby?? HOW THRILLING!! As much as I would LOVE to see a baby Z, I am getting SO excited by how well Bernie’s COLTS are doing on the track and between the two of you I am certain a son would be just as electrifying as a filly!!! Either one will be exciting and I cannot wait to see how you and Tasy do as mom of which I have NO DOUBT you will both be perfect Mommy’s!!!!
Much love to you both from my corner of the world…we are eagerly anticipating a new Z/B baby and can’t wait to see Tasty’s baby too…I am curious to see if her baby will be gray like her….also wondering if she knows if she is having a by or a girl? Do you know??
Rose Edwards
Good Morning Queen Z…..you are looking lovely as always!
Looks like your Bernie sires a lot of colts! With all his handsome 3 year olds it looks like the Derby field will have a few Bernie sons. Does this mean Zenny is carring a colt? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Waiting for a mare to foal is always interesting. My maiden mare was due to foal so
I decided to spend the night at the barn as she was showing all the signs of being close to foaling. I brought my cot and bedroll and set up a few feet from her stall. As I lay down I could hear her munching her hay so I thought I’ll run up to the house for awhile, The minute I got up to leave she lay down with a sigh so,of course, I stayed. Once i laid down again she would be up eating again. This went on all night with no sign of a baby! Two days later after very little sleep I went to the house for a cup of
coffee came back 20 minutes later and she had delivered a handsome 100lb. stud
colt and she was busy cleaning him up! She and her colt spend their entire lives wuth my family bringing home many trophies. Her barn name was Angel and her son’s barn name was JR. They were our equine treasures.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Great story. Thanks for sharing.

Dear Rose E.:
Lovely story. Thank you for sharing. Hugs JB

Great story. Seems to support the Post ideas of mares wanting to be alone.
So funny that she waited until you were gone.
It is lovely that you were able to keep both & both were successful.

Trista – I am glad that you think Zenyatta is a good racer and is very pretty. I think that is a good description of her. I hope we hear from you again.
Dawn Conrad / Colorado
Hello, Trista. It was very sweet of you to write Zenyatta and suggest such a cute name. I agree, she is very pretty!
Janie (in L.A.)
Zenyatta, you are just too adorable for words. On Saturday I got one of the plushies I ordered (for me) and am awaiting the one I ordered for my sister’s birthday – I sure hope it arrives today because it’s supposed to rain tomorrow here in L.A. and I don’t want it to sit out in the rain until I get home from work! The plushie is absolutely beautiful. Yesterday before the Puppy Bowl started on Animal Planet, they had 2 shows called TOO CUTE – one for kittens and one for puppies. I couldn’t help but think of our Zenyatta being TOO CUTE, too, as I watched those cutie pies. Enjoy your new surroundings pretty girl.

Yes kelly, I think #19 & #20 would be two of the most coveted ones, and our Kari got #20. Congrats on #42!

I love that you have more room to move those amazing legs. I love that you have a pasture buddy. I really wish your humans would trust you enough to take your halter off while you are not being lead. :)

Zenyatta,
What a picturesque view you have. Your Bernie sure puts out winners… Can’t wait to see your little baby. Stay healthy and comfortable as possible Big Mama. Congrats to Mr. Commons, Mike, and John. Waiting anxiously. xoxo.

Hi All. If you didn’t see Mr. Commons race you must watch the reply to see Mike’s ride . What a jockey. He is awesome. I couldn’t believe how he got through. I remember when he squeezed through with you. Another example of what a team a jockey and horse have to be and for the jockey to know how and when to ask. Super exciting. Thanks for the update on the foal time line. U

My plushie #72 arrived today….it is adorable, hope I don’t wear it out hugging it too much.
Martha (Zowie) Wentling
That really is quite a view and a lovely photo! My goodness I thought you were due the first of April not March, but as you say some babies can’t wait to come out and see the others while some are a bit shy and don’t want to come out until they absolutely have to. Say Hi to Tasty for me! Should I start pacing now or baking carrot cookies with peppermint?
Debbie
Love you Zenyatta. I pray a easy delivery and a healthy mom and foal. Looking
forward to hearing the name we’ll all be betting on in a few years!!!
