Hello,
Yesterday, we had a very comfortable afternoon in Lexington and the temperatures were rather pleasant. Then last night at about 3 in the morning, a very heavy rain began. Fortunately, at that time, TASTY and I were nice and safe snuggled comfortably in our stalls in the foaling barn.
My ‘foaling status’ is progressing in a very nice and relaxed manner since the latest report. As of this morning, per Matt, TASTY, is at the ‘one marshmallow size bag’ stage. This is where I was last week. It will be fascinating to monitor the progression we each make during the next several days.
Many of you have asked if we would be together with our foals once they are born. From what we are hearing, that is the plan.
On another note, I would like to send a HIGH HOOF to a dear friend who used to visit ME all of the time when I was at BARN 55. His name is Ed Lauter. Ed would arrive at around noon, bring MY JOHN his favorite ham and cheese sandwiches, and just hang out with us for a bit in the afternoons. Ed is an actor and called MY JOHN this morning to share GREAT NEWS! He played the role of Peppy’s Butler in the movie, THE ARTIST, which recently won THE BEST PICTURE Award at the Academy Awards. (I gather this is like being named HORSE OF THE YEAR…in our industry.) Ed is now off to do another movie, this time with Clint Eastwood, and has 2 other movie offers to consider as well. He is so excited and wanted to share all of this with MY JOHN and thank him for the opportunity to spend so much time with ME and BARN 55. He said it meant a great deal to him!
Ed commented to MY JOHN about how MOMENTUM is so important in life. One thing happens and another builds upon that success helping people to achieve their goals. I appreciate and understand this concept….and am so happy for my pal, ED.
As a matter of fact, I am always so proud to share in the ‘good fortune’ of all of my friends!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

there are so many amazing and kind people who seem to be connected to you.
Have a safe day. When are we going to get to see the Queen rolling in the mud? You know a mud pac is great for the complextion.
Love hugs and kisses

Dear Zenny,
It looks like the worst of the bad weather is past you for now. Hope you and Tasty stayed safe in your foaling barn. Sincere congratulations to Ed. The Artist is a wonderful movie. Just saw it on Sunday (hours before the Oscars when a friend and I decided we had to be “in the know” by showtime :-). I’m sure that hanging out with the best (YOU) inspired him to be his best. Take care, keep relaxing. It will be very difficult for us all to last thought another weekend, but in the spirit of supporting JAG, we’re hoping for next week!
Love from your Ohio friend, Sandy

Sandy (NE Ohio), thanks for that weather update.

Sandy, I don’t know about you but I’m going to find this weekend very stressful. I won’t want to go out, away from the computer. I’m hoping that if anything happens Dottie will do a special announcement or that the track announcer at Santa Anita will break the news.
Celeste/Massachusetts
Hello Zenyatta. Thanks for the update on TT. It will be fun to see how far apart the births of your foals are. It will be even more fun watching the four of you out in the paddock when they are born and able to go outside!!!
I also want to tell Dawn Conrad that I watched the news report about her bank and that scam. It was nice to match a face to a name. You look as nice as you seem from your postings!! Thanks for posting that link.
My husband and I have been getting several emails lately that are scams. We are very cautious so we have not opened them and infected our computers. So beware everyone of emails that refer to bank transactions such as wire transfers. We also got one today about ordering business checks. These people are very sly; it is sad.
Well we are in Western Massachusetts and it is snowing now. We are expecting up to 10 inches. My children are hoping for a snow day tomorrow. We will see.
Have a restful night Zenyatta and TT.

Celeste….got one the other day saying my Yahoo email was under attack….then wanted a lot of info to correct problem ….Yahoo denied sending original message….never give info out…always check first
Celeste in TX
Hello, Celeste! ( what a nice name!) . Today I phoned in a phishing scam email to my bank because the message looked so legitimate, but something just made me uneasy. The instructions said something like “just click here” and that set off my little alarm. The bank instructed me to forward the email to them and they were glad that I knew enough not to click on the link. Stuff like this is really scary to me because like Dawn’s bank customer experienced there are just so many bad things out there. That’s why Zenyatta land is such a wonderful place to be!
Dawn Conrad / Colorado
Oh, Celeste, you are too sweet! Thank you!!
Dawn Conrad / Colorado
I guess I should have noted Celeste/Massachusetts in my previous reply.
Now, Celeste in TX, I am so glad you caught that phishing scam. You would be amazed at the various scam warnings we get regularly. It seems like there are new ones everyday! Just today, we received a phone call from one of our other customers to let us know she had received a phone call that morning which matched what we had described in the TV piece the night before. She was so glad that she had seen the news report and new exactly what was happening. We felt great that the warning had helped save her from trouble.

Happy Leap Day Everyone!!!!
Zenny – Stay safe, warm and dry. I hope that Vertigineux will be in Foal to Street Cry again – How exciting will that be.
Also, Tasty T – hope you catch up with Zenyatta – strange how Mother Nature takes her time with baby foals and the progression of the mares.
Hugs

Gloria Jeanne, What happened to V being in foal to Street Cry? I thought that she had a foal due in the next couple of months?? Did we have the wrong info? I tried to find info on the net but couldn’t find anything…do you know????
Gloria Jeanne "O.C." SO CAL
Someone posted on Zenyatta’s Facebook page that Vertigineux did not get into foal status with Street Cry and was re-bred to him again about a week ago, it said that she was barren : (
I have not read anything else about the full sibling to Zenyatta. So just waiting on some other confirmation if this is true or not. Guess we just have to wait and see – I looked all weekend on the internet for information.
Maryp (New York)
Thanks for response. I saw maybe the same post on Lane’s End FB but I find no other info or confirmation.
Maybe Zenny/Dotti can confirm for us.

Dear all: I received my regular e-mail from Old Friends that stated that they are in need of funds, and if anyone is considering giving this year, they would really appreciate it in March. I know we’ll do what we can.
Sue Fredrick - Wisconsin
Barbara, yes you beat me to it! They need $50,000 by the end of March to pay the mortgage. If anyone can help please donate to Old Friends they have a Facebook site now where you can get the address. Hugs

One of my friends had a mare in foal a few years back. She didn’t have a foaling cam, so when the mare was due, she moved into the barn to monitor the mare for signs of labor so that she could be around in case there was trouble. Two weeks later, the mare was looking like an elephant, she was so big, but she just stood there in the barn blinking blankly at her owner all night. Frustrated at the lack of progress, my friend decided to take a break and have a 20 minute dinner with her family for the first time in half-a-month. When she walked back into the barn, there was her mare with a healthy new foal. Some horses just don’t want an audience.

Good story.

I wonder how long the mare would have waited for privacy. Ha!

Is there–or where is there–a place where we can sign up to get an email or text alert when the big moment has happened? I’ve scrolled and scrolled and can’t find it. A hint, clue, direction would be deeply appreciated.
Julie DuVall / Ontario, CA
I don’t think there is one, but we have been hoping Dottie might set something up. Most likely, the announcement will be made through a diary entry. Of course, those of us who don’t have smart phones can’t sit by our computers 24/7 so we are at a slight disadvantage. I know it doesn’t really matter WHEN we hear the news but we are all so excited, we want to know as soon as humanly (equinely?) possible!!!
Debbi M --Virginia
Exactly! LOL

@ALL: If you go back to Zenny’s HOME PAGE, and look down near the bottom on the right, you see a “Keep In Touch” where you can enter your name & email address. I think that this is what Ann Maree was referring to (above).
Eveline / Maryland.
Hi Abigail, the only thing I could find to sign was the twitter account, is that what you mean?
Eveline / Maryland.
Found it! I was on the wrong page!
Debbi M --Virginia
Oh, thank you! I see it now. I always come here via the facebook link and rarely see the home page. Fingers crosssed that it is to get an email notification. :) I teach school and they understandably block websites like facebook and anything that might be considered gambling (horse racing pages, etc.) but between classes and at lunch, I can check my email.

Thanks, Abigail. I just signed up.

Great news about you and Tasty…..like I said in a last post….feel like I am waiting for a family member to call and tell me the baby is on the way. I cannot wait to see your foal. I hope they take videos of you and baby….and maybe baby standing for first time….like the video of the foal from Super Saver. I thought that was so cute and sweet. I would love to see your foal from the very beginning….so hope video is planned for all us fans.
That is great about Ed….. life is so much about timing ….. hope he continues to do well.
Hugs to you Z….

I just found a pic of PQ and her colt. Go to lane’s End on FB where they posted pics of the foaling barn and go to the last pic and there they are! Soooo Cute! It appears that the colt was born brown.

Here is the link to that, but it is not confirmed that this is PQ. I don’t remember that she has those markings, but gray horses change with the seasons in color http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=320545531327649&set=a.320544757994393.73280.130389357009935&type=1&theater

Keta, thank you for the picture. This is the original statue that used to sit in the paddock walking ring at Belmont Park. It was moved to Saratoga in 1988 and a copy remains where the original once stood. It was one of the things I most wanted to see when I went to the Horse Racing Hall of Fame. The statue sits in a courtyard in the middle of the museum. It was a beautiful sunny day when mother and I were visiting. There are benchs in front of the statue where you can sit. It was wonderful just sitting and gazing at my beloved Secretariat, remembering everything he was and everything he meant to me! Loved it!!
Dawn Conrad / Colorado
Keta, you probably already know this information, but wanted to share what it meant to me. Thank you, again!
Keta
Dawn,
it is the sharing and the memories that make this site so special.

What a great description!
This statue captures the essence of Secretariat.
It is beautiful.

Aww Zenny, as your Dottie stated today, your John and she will not be going back to see you foal – she said they would go back once your foal is running around! Too cute! Your Ann and Jerry WILL be there for the birth though, so take heart dear girl! John told me months ago when I visited Barn 55 that he did not want to see you go through that. I suspect that it would be too painful for him – no other explanation was needed, I could see it in his eyes.
Abigail from Montreal
Karen: I’m not surprised to hear that ZENNY’S JOHN can’t bear to see her go through this. I really do believe they are — together with DOTTIE — “joined at the heart.”
Karen Gogue /Nanny-Granny in a 'let down now!' tummy coma ♥
Indeed – joined at the heart. Although I am sure john has seen many horses foal, this one is too close to his heart and soul ….
Dawn Conrad / Colorado
Abigail, how beautiful your words are!! I agree, John, Dottie and Zenyatta are definitely joined at the heart!!

Mr. Commons who has already captured a pair of grade II races at one mile on the turf during the Santa Anita meet, drew the rail as the likely favorite for the $300,000 Frank E. Kilroe Mile (gr. IT) March 3.
The John Shirreffs-trained 4-year-old son of Artie Schiller faces seven opponents in the one-mile Kilroe, which precedes the $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I). The Kilroe follows the $250,000 Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) for 3-year-old fillies on the program.

FYI-It is his first time on the rail.

Mr. Commons is probably the best grass miler in the country at present. Still, I would have liked to see him go in the big cap. However, John knows best.

Its so good to read that you and Tasty were all snug in your stalls when the storms hit your area! I love the photo that Sarah has shared – you are looking ever more beautiful, Zenyatta, my Queen!! It is so heartwarming to hear (read) all the stories of the folks who have been moved by you, such as your friend Mr. Lauter and it is wonderful that he has remained in contact with your dear John even in your absence. That’s because your Z team is made up of such very special people!!
Thank you for lifting my heart as you do every day. We are all so anxious for news of you and Tasty, also, that I am so very deeply appreciative of all the efforts your wonderful Dottie puts forth for all of us here. Thank you!!

I was thinking about you as I watched the storms on the weather channel. I know you are safe but still worry about you. I know that before we know it there will be a celebration at the birth of your foal. You will make a great mom Zen as you are so calm and sweet.
Take care and thank Dottie for the up dates. I look forward to them every day.

I’m so happy that the plan is for YOU and TASTY plus foals to be together. The two of you have become such good friends, supporting each other, that I’m sure you would miss each other terribly if you were to be separated.
