Z's Diary

Diary Post #453

Here's some of my LANE'S END TEAM! Photo by Ann Moss.

Good Morning,

Well….what can I say! It has been another fabulous evening…and I’m still very relaxed, in foal, and happy. At this time, there is NOTHING NEW TO REPORT. I would imagine you human MOMS have been through this same experience…exactly at the stage I am right now….waiting for the BIG DAY!

Nature….it is truly amazing!

I’d like to introduce you to members of my wonderful Lane’s End Team who are ready to JUMP INTO ACTION the minute something changes and it appears I’m getting ready to foal.

Front row: Sarah, Charles, Guillermo Back row: Brian, Antonio, Louis

They take such fabulous care of ME every single day. As you can see, they look nice and relaxed now….just waiting for ME to let them know what’s next. That cue will not only come from ME, but as I’ve now learned, my adorable foal will definitely have something to say about it as well.

I see Sarah has on her JOHN SHIRREFFS RACING STABLE hat. I’d know that hat anywhere! I saw it for years at BARN 55! Looking TOO CUTE, Sarah!

Thank you for your loving thoughts, warm wishes and kind responses. I so appreciate them.

Last week, Dottie did an interview discussing my ‘status at that time’ on TVG. This is one of the primary racing channels in our country. Many of you asked if it would be replayed or shown again. Donyelle Taylor, the program’s producer, sent Dottie the link this morning to share with all of you. ENJOY!

It’s raining in Lexington today…but still rather pretty outside and quite pleasant! I’m sure I’ll spend some time outdoors during the day…and then be back in my cozy stall…right by TASTY in the late afternoon. TASTY sends her regards….and wants you to know she is also doing very well. I guess you could say we are both taking “BABY STEPS” at this time towards becoming MOMS… and yes, the pun is intended!

Cheers and have a wonderful day!

With Love,
Hugs to all~
Z

Loved the TVG video, Dottie. During the interview, you talked about Winstar’s Super Saver foal video in which the newborn filly stood up, then lost her balance and performed an acrobatic move. In the video, they called the foal “Super Valentine”. Anyway, didn’t know if you had heard that they named this little one, Back Flip. The Jockey Club has reserved the name and it’s official. How cute is that.

Wonder if Win Star will let me retire there?

Be safe Zenny, TT and babies.

Well Zen, I had to leave and RUN some errands before my butt looks like a water buffalo from behind. I thought I’ll bet she has that baby while I’m gone, but you held out again. I love your picture of the “A Team”, so glad they are there for you ready to jump in if needed. I also enjoyed the interview with Dottie, those guys on TVG are so nice and she did a great job! Now lets look at the schedule:

March 9 Great day my daughter’s Birthday
March 10 Good day my granddaughter’s Birthday
March 24 Bad day my Birthday but my butt WILL look like a water buffalo’s and your foal will look like a Clydesdale(now I love Clydesdales but they can’t run very fast!)

So……. I figure tonight about 8:00 will be the best, what do you think?

Love you girl kisses on your nose and TT too Auntie Sue

While everyone is waited with bated breath, sitting on pins and needles, and pacing the floor, can I please make a request? Black Caviar hardly has any fans on Facebook. Could Zenyatta fans visit and like her facebook page?
Long live Girl Power. Thanks so much everyone. We need to support the Queens of this sport.
    Back to pacing. Thanks again.
By the way, if you wish to see live video of races at Gulfstream Park on the weekend, live video is available on their website. This Saturday, Mucho Macho Man, Jackson Bend, and Tackleberry will be racing at the Gulfstream Park Handicap. I saw MMM being schooled in the show ring on Wednesday and it took two grooms to hold him down.

Terri………..I am a huge fan of Aussie’s “QUEEN” but haven’t joined her FB page yet. Thanks for reminding me. (I guess I have just been in Z OverLoad LOL!)

I have a long, long time cyber friend in Australia who because of me is on “Zenyatta foal watch” (she fell in love with her because of me — as if she had a choice! — several years ago) and I, in turn, came to know and love Black Caviar and have followed HER in her races (thanks to TVG) with input from my friend.

She is a MAGNIFICENT mare, SO much like our Zenyatta in heart, determination and yes, the Aussie’s respect our Queen Z and are very excited about this birth….I email with my cyber friend every day and I am to CALL her when the birth takes place!

And LORD let it be soon…………….

      Terri,
Love Black Caviar! Been a fan since someone mentioned her here a long while ago. She’ll be headed to Ascot after she has a “spell”(rest) and 1 or 2 prep races in Australia. Love to listen to the different words they use: (barrier – starting gate), etc… Luke Nolen, her Jockey, gets all choked up when talking about her like Mike did with Zen. She has created an enormous surge in the racing “Down Under” much as our “Queen” has here. Hoping this may be the year they come to Breeder’s Cup since they’re giving her plenty of rest and it’s in California this year – closer to Australia.

    Hello Beautiful Girl,

I want to thank Dottie for the wonderful interview with TVG and the videos that were included. I don’t have TVG reception here in North Carolina. Basically I view all of your videos on Youtube. I’m so glad to read that you and Tasty are doing well. I enjoyed seeing the picture of the team above who will be helping you on that important day. Dottie mentioned that it is expected that you will deliver next week, but I’ll keep checking the website daily that the foal has been safely born and that you are both well. Wouldn’t it be neat if you and Tasty delivered the same day? The babies could play and explore the paddock together.

Stay comfortable and well my beauty.

    Hugs and Kisses,

    Nancy

Beautiful Zenyatta, I hope you are relaxing well today and maybe Tonight is the Night! I just got back from getting my nails done, I got HOT pink on my toes and a lighter Pink on my fingernails…….so I’m thinking PINK! First thing in the morning I check your site for any news, and several times throughout the day and it’s the last thing I do before I go to bed. My husband thinks I’m a little nuts….lol But, he knows how much I adore you. I enjoyed watching the video clips and the interview with Dottie and TVG with Matt & Greg…..I watch TVG whenever I’m home but I missed that one, so I’m glad Dottie posted the link. Seeing our Big Girl on the track in those clips brought a smile to my face, how I loved seeing you race. Also, thank you for letting us know how Tasty is doing. I’ve been thinking about her too during this “foal watch”. Stay relaxed both you mama’s and let mother nature do it’s thing. I will be checking back later. Many hugs & kisses to you both!

This may be an unpopular vote…I hope Zenyatta does not end up a perennial broodmare. I think she’s capable of so much more especially in the field of therapy/healing those with PTSD, etc. as many other horses are doing these days. She has natural abilities to help others and as John Shirreffs said of Zenyatta when hundreds of fans waited in line to see her, “she’s very, very kind”.

@Bonnie: You are not alone on this site. While I’m not sure about another real career, I also hope she is not bred constantly year after year. I know that’s considered the norm, but if anyone can think outside the box, it’s the Mosses and Shirreffs. She is such an ambassador for the breed. I’d let the baby get weaned, take Z on a charity tour, then maybe breed her next year. It’s not like the Mosses need a dozen foals from her to earn milk money. I’m just sayin’.

Great interview, Dottie! You impressed me so much when I met you at Z’s party with your kindness and warmth. Thank you so much for helping our Queen write this diary. (It would be kind of hard to type with hooves I guess!)
It’s almost 7:30 Kentucky time and still no word. I think it is going to be March 9th, JAG!

I just got a call from my husband wanting to know if we had a baby yet. This is in the category of “when pigs fly”. And with basketball tournament games going on no less. Will wonders never cease? It might have something to do with me getting on the computor a 6:40a.m. this morning to check on you.

“when pigs fly”. Love it! At least he has certainly proven he’s awake and paying attention.

Z-you said it’s raining today-sometimes a low pressure system does the trick!! I wish you and Tasty safe and short deliveries, and I’m soooo looking forward to the pictures of your little speed ball. Too bad you weren’t available for Indy or Storm Cat, but Bernie is pretty hot himself!! Best wishes to all!!

Please don,t take me wrong, I think Bernardini is a teriffic sire for Zenyatta, but the mention of his namealways makes me a little sad because he won the Preakness when my Barbaro broke down. I’m tearing up now just thinking about it. On a lighter note, poor Zenyatta’s mommy (am avoiding trying to spell her name lol), a 130 pounds! I’m thinking of all the human mommies who had 10 pound babies. Thank goodness I didn’t!

I see we are still waiting. We guys have to remember…ladies like to run on their own schedule and The Queen always had a mind of her own.
