Happy Monday to All!
It has truly been a very eventful few days. My foal and I are adjusting beautifully to our life together. He is quite smart, inquisitive, and charming ….if I say so myself. (Blush, Blush) I’m hearing others making these same statements about him…so I guess you could say I am in complete agreement with them!
Weather permitting, we spend time outdoors in the paddock together….and then we return to the barn for our evening’s rest. I am pleased to report that he is doing everything perfectly…just as a MOM would hope for a foal who is only a few days old.
I must say, I am having the most fabulous time being a MOM and just watching him…sleep, eat, play, and snuggle up to ME. It is an absolute JOY….and I could not be happier.
Just as with human babies, there is paperwork to be completed upon the birth of a foal. All of the proper information must be submitted to the Jockey Club for his JOCKEY CLUB PAPERS to be issued. These papers are a thoroughbred’s version of a human’s BIRTH CERTIFICATE.
Martha at Lane’s End is preparing his LIVE FOAL report this morning. Later after this information is processed, blood work will be provided and this will be used to properly verify he is definitely MY FOAL SIRED BY BERNARDINI. I.D. photos will be taken and submitted to the Horse Identification Department noting every single aspect of his body…color, white star, any other white hairs, or markings. All of these details are noted in a very explicit format. Such steps are completed with each foal that is born. ALL thoroughbreds are specifically identified and parentage qualified with the goal of keeping the integrity of our sport always operating at the highest levels.
You may remember my HORSE IDENTIFICATION PHOTO. I found it again for you. I was just a few months old at the time it was taken. Who ever thought it would be so much FUN to look at several years later.
Hmmmm! What do you think? Does he take after ME?
When all of these requirements are completed and verified, the Jockey Club will formally issue his CERTIFICATE OF FOAL REGISTRATION. This will follow my adorable little guy, just as a birth certificate does a human, throughout his life…when he races, travels, or whatever else he may do!
I also want to tell you that I checked in on TASTY this morning. She is ‘happily in foal’…and from all indications it appears she still has a few days to wait before she gives birth! I’m wishing her all the best! While he’s napping, I think I’ll send her a few ‘foaling pointers’….now that I’m such a PRO and have a bit of experience in this area!
Please enjoy your week!
With Love,
Hugs to All~ (I’m still in AWE of this entire MOM experience!)
Z….and her BABY! (How cute is that to say!)
This is SO SWEET!!
I just got the memo and the date is all set! SANTA ANITA is having LOS ANGELES’ LARGEST BABY SHOWER FOR ME and MY BABY this Saturday. How special is this!
The life-size painting of ME, THE QUEEN’S DANCE, which we unveiled during My Breeders’ Cup Party last year at Churchill Downs, is going to be on display. Jaime Corum, the artist who created the piece, and some members of my TEAM, will also be there to visit with fans.
The beautiful part of this is that MY SHOWER will honor some of the charities I have worked with during my career! My BABY and I are so fortunate, thus, it is truly my privilege to assist others who may need some help whenever I can!
I’m beginning to realize the ‘teaching part’ of being a MOM starts the minute the baby is born! Thank you for helping ME to illustrate to him the ‘gift of giving to others…comes in so many ways’.

Hi Zennie, you are indeed a very blessed MOMMY! Your foal is a lucky little guy having a great mom like you taking care of him. With all the photos I’ve seen, you are keeping a close watch on your little one and that’s a real good thing! I bought THE QUEEN’S DANCE a couple of weeks ago and it is being framed as we speak. It is GORGEOUS. I hope you teach little Bernie how to dance. That would be SO special and just TOO CUTE!

What a beautiful picture Matt! Oh! He is so adorable and beautiful like his mom. Thanks for the great information regarding Tasty and foal registration. Please let us know soon she has the baby. I wonder if it’s a colt or a filly.
Once again, thank you to Team Zenyatta and Lane’s End Team for sharing with us this unforgettable event last week.
I love you Queen Z. Hugs and kisses to you, the little prince and Tasty.
Karen Gogue Proud Nanny/Granny - OH YEAH!! ♥♥
Sorry momma Zenny, but Auntie Eblouissantte’s FB does not allow videos to be upload with the new look FB page. So I posted it to your FB page. Auntie Ebby looked so proud on the track – best looking horse out there that day! You and your little love licks enjoy!
The Kennedys in San Diego
Probably the best looking any day. Eblouissante is absolutely beautiful as well as intelligent and kind.

Elégante Eblouissante! Thank you for posting the video, Karen — it is wonderful.

Is that Mike Smith riding her? it sure looks like him. I wonder if he will ride her on her first race.

Dear Sharon in Atlanta:
I’m think that was Mikey riding E. Hugs, JB
Amanda
Yes that was Mike.

Dear Karen G.:
Thank you so much. Just watched your video of E on Z’s Facebook page. Oh my gosh, she has filled out a bit and is so elegant looking. She’s got the family demeanor and looks. Those ears and those long legs. She also has the stop and look pose down pat. She’s just as curious as Z and even looked over at the pigeon on the grass. I think she really has helped the CA Team’s missing Z. Hugs, JB

Dearest Zenyatta,
He looks just like you! He’s been kissed by God (hence the star). May he also have been given wings by Him.

Dear Zenyatta,
A coworker of mine (lLinda) shared her story about how much she loved you. So I looked you up and I haven’t been able to take my eyes off of you ever since. Your foal is also adorable as you. You are obviously a very proud and beautiful both inside and out. I am so glad to see you being a people person. I love to hear the stories and see the photos of how much you love and care for not only your owners but your caretakers as well and the love that they share with others by allowing us to share that love, especially that guy with the mustache you see who is in most your photos. The love you two share or bond is awesome! I look forward to seeing a movie of you!

LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
In most of the pictures, the guy with the mustache is Mario Espinoza, Zenyatta’s groom. He took excellent care of her throughout her entire racing career. He is a first-class horseman and deserves much of the credit for Zenyatta’s success, not to mention her happiness and well being. Occasionally, she will be pictured with another guy in a mustache, Frank Leal, John Shirreff’s barn foreman. Frank and Mario have a superficial resemblance to each other.

Hi Z……It is wonderful and heart warming to see you and your baby. I told you once born ….the baby is under your feet…….looks like you are enjoying it. You are such a good mom. I think that is so great about the shower. See how much good you and your baby can do for charities. Hugs to you Z…..and now I can say……..your precious colt. He is so very handsome!!!
suew/Va
Zenny, I love this picture of you and little Z/B at rest. The two of you are so cute…Matt takes a great picture just like your Sarah.
Congratulations on the baby shower this Saturday…I hope it raises thousands of dollars for your charities. You and your team have such good hearts and are always ready to give back to those in need.
Once again this diary provides a lesson on jockey papers and the importance of the information being perfect on them since they are used as an official birth cirtificate.
And, thanks for the update on TT…we sure like her a lot because she has been such a great pal of yours.
Jodi
Just adorable!

Hi Zen… you and your baby boy are nothing but joy to the world!
Your love shines though for your little one… being the most wonderful mommy there is. And yes… the baby does resemble you when you were a baby…but also in heart and spirit. May happiness continue to abound for you! Soon you and Tasty will be able to celebrate, and your babies can play together!
Christine Coleman
Zenny, you are magnificent! I love reading all about you. I adore your little foal. He looks like your dam, Vertigineaux a little. But definitely you long legs and neck. He’s gonna be something to contend with if he has your “heart” and competitive spirit. I hope he goes to Your John when he’s ready for training. Your John did a masterful job training you. He will be equally fortunate if he gets Mario as his groom as well! Mario’s daily routine with you let you know there IS some good in some people. He gave you confidence as well.

Simply put, “PRINCE” has to be part of the name of THE QUEEN’S first-born. While all her foals will be celebrated and adored, this one is heir to her legacy. He is already referred to as “The Prince” and all know of whom we speak.
It could be the English ‘ Prince’ or the French ‘Le Prince’ or the Italian ‘Principe’ or some other. But ‘Prince’ simply has to be part of it.
♥ JAG / Hi Prince I'm YOUR Auntie Judy / So. CA
I agree!! He is worthy of a name!!

p.s. It was great seeing you on Saturday! You always look soooo pretty – too cute!!
Lisag in Texas Adoring the Prince
I like the Italian version first (Bernardini’s name), then the French (Zenyatta’s Mama’s name, and of course, English..what we are all calling him. The name for the Queen’s Son and the Queen’s First Born does have to be o so extra special.
Amanda
LOOK!!! Tomorrow they will be talking to Lane’s End manager Mike Cline and Charles Campbell and Donna Vowles, who manage the broodmare operation at the farm and were in charge of Zenyatta during her pregnancy on Bloodhorse.com Talkin’ Horses at 1pm March 13. You can submit questions to ask them and for those that are not able to listen at the time it airs, the programs are recorded and put on the website. http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/talkin-horses/archive/2012/03/12/special-edition-lane-s-end-staff-on-zenyatta-s-pregnancy-and-foal.aspx

Zenny – try to get as much rest as you can, you’re definitely going to need it. Enjoy the day with your handsome little prince out in the paddock. Thanks for the update on Tasty – can’t wait to hear the news when she foals and to see all four of you out in the paddock together.
Sharon in Atlanta, GA
I’m such a happy person! I love the video posted on Bloodhorse and the article on DRF. I wonder when John and Dottie come to see you if they will bring Mario with them? I know Mario would just love to see you again and the handsome young colt that will come to stay with him at Barn 55 in a couple of years.
I’m wondering if Hollywood Park is going to give a baby shower for you, like the one at SA? I thought they might since that was your home track. Anyone heard anything about this?

Your foal is SOOOOOOOOO CUTE! I hope Tasty’s foaling goes well. XOXOXOXOOXOXO

There’s nothing quite so adorable as a sleeping baby! Well, yeah, there are, but he is so adorable napping alongside you! One of the magical, miraculous wonders of motherhood, as you now know, Zenny! Wish I could be at Santa Anita for the baby shower, but I’m sure my siblings will be there in their usual spot!! I’m sure most of us will be there in spirit! Love you both so much! Take care!

This is the same as Amanda posted above, but through The Horse. A great opportunity to ask questions! http://www.thehorse.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ID=19725

Happy Monday Zenny, Thanks to Matt for the lovely photo of you and your boy enjoying the fresh air. I imagine that he’s like all babies, full of energy one minute and then out like a light the next. He is definitely his Mommy’s boy, his ears are so perky and he seems to be a “people” horse already.
Thanks for the update on Tasty, please tell her that her fellow Canucks are anxiously awaiting news and sending their love to her.
Once again, I’m turning green with envy, the California Dumplings will get to be at your baby shower. I so wish I could be there. Perhaps Auntie Judy or Auntie Karen could do a video and then we all could join in. The best part is that your charities will be included. You have taken to motherhood just as you have done everything else, PERFECTLY, and we all knew that you would handle it like a Pro. Hugs and kisses to you and your boy.
Kathy S.
We are all basking in the afterglow of the arrival of YOUR SWEET BABY. Both of you have a spectacular day. All the best to Tasty. How long will Grandma and Grandpa Moss get to stay in KY? I know they will hate having to return to CA. When will The Shirreff’s get to visit? And YOUR MIKIE and MARIO? We love you, Zenny, and your precious BABY.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
The Mosses are back in California. They probably won’t stay away too long, though.

Kathy, I read or heard that Ann did NOT want to come back, but they had to, from business committments. And also that Mario will be going back to see her, as well as John & Dottie, but it didn’t say when.

Does anyone know the details of this “baby shower” at Santa Anita? What exactly will it entail? Inquiring minds want to know!

I’m guessing specific details to follow regarding the “Baby Shower”! However, the print done by Jaime will be sold and autographed by her and some of the Z connections (as Dottie posted above.)

Just look at how precious you are looking over your new bundle of joy. I love how you’re lying down with your baby. I enjoyed the HRTV video and especially liked the part where Baby walked right under you. And I was over the moon with the footage of Ann snuggling with your baby in the straw. Congratulations and thank you for sharing special pictures with us.

Oh Zen!!! Wish I could attend your Baby Shower!! I wish even more I could see and snuggle your little boy like I saw and snuggled with you at Hollywood Park! He is BEYOND adorable & precious!
SO glad to hear everything is going well…still anxiously on “foal watch” for Tasty and do so hope her foaling comes soon so that your little boy and her new baby will become fast friends and you two can resume grazing together and spending time comparing “momisms”. :-)
I just LOVE the updates and pictures….the weekends are SOOOOOOOOOOO long waiting for Monday to arrive to hear your news and updates. LOL! Many of my favroties won over the weekend! Last year’s Debry pick Mucho Macho Man! Yipppe! He is big and tall like you! My Derby horse whom I picked before the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile ever ran (Creative Cause) won! Yippeee! And another favorite I kind of grew into at the Breeder’s CUp last year…I attened your Breeder’s Cup party with a borken wrist and had a FLAMING pink cast on it…(and YES it is signed by Mr. & Mrs. Moss & your Mikey)and these people were so sweet to draped Trinniberg’s red halter over my cast and take a picture of me. Such nice guys that I have to say sentimentally I picked him to win on SAturday just because I was hoping good things for such nice connections and this gorgeous son of Tueflesberg (who I also ADORED) won!!! Pretty good weekend.
SO sad to hear about 2011 Kentucky Derby winner and 2012 Dubai hopeful, Animal Kingdom! He is out of the DUbai World Cup with a re-injured leg. Poor baby! Hope he heals up soon!
Since you are so “magical” Queen Z…please keep my hubby and ALL our troops in Afghanistan your prayers…it’s SO scary over there right now and maybe some of your magical energy will help watch over him (them) and keep them safe. I am out of my mind with worry and fear….just wish he could come home. Two of his friends were injured by a grenade a couple weeks ago during the protests. :-(
Big tender hugs to you Queen Z and little prince Z….your gentleness and tenderness make the world a better place!!! We are so blessed to have you in it!
Much Love!!!
