Good Morning,
Well, I am feeling fabulous this morning! After I came back from Darley yesterday, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day in my regular routine with my friends. We had a great time ‘visiting’ and “just doing girl talk!” It was also a day when one reflects on one’s family. I have this great photo of Mario I wanted to share with YOU. When he came to visit me last time, Mario also spent some fun time visiting other farms. He really wanted to meet MY MOM, VERTIGINEUX. We were able to make this happen for him.
During his visit with Vertigineux, he spent a great deal of time just laughing and smiling! I guess it is because she is “MY MOM”! Mario commented that we have some very similar physical qualities. She is also a good-sized MARE with a PRETTY FACE and GREAT eyes! And look at those adorable EARS! I really believe all of my friends at BARN 55 would know them ANYWHERE! (I think my whole family has a ‘thing’ for fabulous EARS!) Very, very cute!
As for my personal ‘baby’ status, many of you asked several questions about what happens next. Well, with horses, the vets will scan me at approximately 16 days to see if “I look to be in foal”. This is considered to be the ‘early pregnancy scan’. If all looks to be in good order…they will rescan me about 12-14 days later. The primary goal of these early check-ups/scans is always to monitor the “IN FOAL STATUS.” The third pregnancy scan is done 42-45 days from the breeding date. This one is especially important. At this stage, it is really a good sign when all is A-OK with the pregnancy. So, I’ll update you as we go along…but the 42-45 day report is very, very important!
Like I said yesterday…HOOVES CROSSED.
All of my CA FRIENDS and BARN 55 are very excited! Dottie was teasing them….THINK “BLUE” or THINK “PINK.” The anticipation is so much fun! Also, I did want to tell you that I so appreciate ALL of the KIND WORDS, CONCERN, and THOUGHTS you shared with ME on my Web-site and Facebook Page. You are all such loving and caring friends! I hope the next year is a GREAT EXPERIENCE for all of us! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!
I will keep you posted!
With love,
HUGS TO ALL~

What everyone decides it is fine with me.
Just thought I would make a couple of suggestions. Also like the idea of involving Carmen that was suggested by Tristissee. They are such a sweet and wonderful couple. They give so much to
Barn 55 and the horses.

@Livey
Well said !!! Thanks.
Linda
Mario must have just told Vertigineux that she was going to be a grandmother. He was smiling and she looked content.
And you do resemble her so much.
Zenyatta, when you become a mom, maybe the 3 of you can be pictured together, now that would be a nice photo for the family album.
Ed
Yes, a picture of the 3 generations would be great. What does Street Sense look like? But even better would be getting to see Zenyatta at Lanes End. I agree that instructions on how to accomplish this would be information much needed by many.

DEAR ZENYATTA,
NOW I SEE WHERE YOU GET YOUR WONDERFUL DISPOSITION….YOU CAN SEE IT IN YOUR MOTHER’S EYES. HOW SWEET. SHE LOOKS LOVELY, LIKE YOU. PLEASE SAY HELLO TO KINGMAMBO THE NEXT TIME YOU STROLL BY HIS STALL WINDOW..IT WOULD MAKE HIM FEEL SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU. I DON’T THINK HE IS FEELING ALL THAT WELL THESE DAYS, BUT WHAT A STUD HE WAS! HIS MOMMA, MIESQUE, LIVED AT LANE’S END TOO. THE TWO OF YOU STELLAR FILLIES WOULD HAVE SHARED SOOO MANY STORIES & I’M SURE SHE WOULD HAVE SUPPORTED YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR PREGNANCY. SO SORRY I DIDN’T REALIZE SHE WAS THERE LAST NOVEMBER WHEN I VISITED. KINGMAMBO IS MY HORSE’S GRANDPA, SO HE IS ALSO SPECIAL TO ME. LOTS OF GREAT HORSES AT LANE’S END! YOU’RE IN GOOD COMPANY QUEEN Z. STAY WARM AND WELL. HOPE THE BAD WEATHER THERE PASSES VERRRRY SOON!

Hello Zeny: Your mom is beautiful. I hope she is happy in her new home. I read she was sold last month. Have you heard from Life is Sweet? I spoke briefly to Dottie about how Life is Sweet is doing at the signing of your beautiful poster with Secretariat. She said she is fine and will have her baby end of February. Any news? Hugs, MV
LauraJ
@L, I agree, it would have been interesting to see a full sibling to Zenyatta. The Darley/Coolmore brouhaha has probably prevented some excellent matings. Maybe it’s for the best, however. I can only imagine the expectations that would have been heaped on the poor creature.
Christine
@Livey
Thanks for reading my post. I just want information given to be positive about Zen. That she will have a healthy happy foal like herself. All good things to her and the team. I know life is not like that but HERE I hope it is. Here is the very BEST of things for Zen and her fans.Life is sad now. War, Poverty, hunger but here it is ZEN. ONLY ZEN . Thanks for listening.
L
@LauraJ,
I agree with you and of course full siblings rarely live up to one another. Still, it’s a shame because from all reports her Bernardini filly is turning out exceptional as well. She seems to cross will with the stallions at Darley and now they’re cutting of their nose to spite their face.

Not to divert the talk from Z too much, but where a few enjoyed the photos of Rags to Riches 1st filly, just thought I’d add in the link to a photo of her with her 2nd foal, a colt by Henrythenavigator born last year : )
(the photobucket account isn’t mine, I had to do a search for photos of the little guy)

Ms Zenyatta, your mama is so beautiful…This proves you are more than likely to have a big, bouncing, baby..your Big Girl looks come from Mama. Hopefully you baby will get the Big Girl or Big Boy looks from you. Tiznow is one Big boy, he is almost as big as you, but not nearly as beautifullllll…as beautifullll..as you. I want to meet you so much…I hope I can soon…I love you and waiting eagerly to your next post. Bunches of Carrots…Lisa g.

Zenny, your Mom, Vertiginieux, is very beautiful. You got your exceptional genes from your parents. I wish you well as you follow your Mom’s path to being a broodmare. I plan on visiting you and your parents when I go to Kentucky. Hugs and Kisses to you Zenny.
LauraJ
@Ed and everyone else: Please folks, be patient. Lane’s End is well aware that Zenyatta’s many fans would like to visit her. However, they DO NOT entertain casual visitors or offer tours during the breeding season, February through June. This is an existing policy that is posted on their website. Lane’s End is a big, busy farm. They’ve got broodmares to attend to, mares visiting their stallions, breeders coming to look at stallions, etc. We all hope they will make some sort of visitation arrangements for the Queen, but we probably shouldn’t expect anything prior to July. I’m terribly afraid that if we make pests of ourselves, they will decide it is not worth the trouble. So please, don’t call Lane’s End and ask. I’m sure Dottie will let us know when visits become possible.
Elizabeth
….ears to ya….. xxoo
LauraJ
@Ensign, thanks for the link. He’s a cute little thing. Nice hindquarters. I love his little star. I wonder if they will leave him in Europe. If he inherited his momma’s distance genes he might be better off staying there.

@Christine
Your welcome. Remember, just focus on the positive threads and not the ‘perceived’ negative threads. This will help you to enjoy your Z Diary visits. :)

@Signsofthetime: Your welcome. :)

@Ensign-Thank you for the picture of R2R first filly. Oh, how I wish I was a horse person. :/

Happy weekend to all. Find something that makes you smile….
L
@Livey,
The bay foal was R2R second foal. Her colt by Henrythenavigator.

@Cindy
I disagree with your solution to the problem. There is a reason for everything and everyone needs to look at whether folks are on this site for Zenyatta or
for their own agenda and treat it accordingly.
I love Zenyatta and all she stands for, thoroughly enjoy her posts and love Team Z and Team Lanes End. We are sooo fortunate to have Dottie.

@L
That’s my fault…meant to say 2nd filly. It’s been a long week. :]
Also, want to take a sec to correct a grammatical error on my previous post: *you’re/you are

Thank you all the news on the most incredible horse I have met.

So happy for you Zenny. Does that mean you have to lay off the Guiness?

Hello, I agree with LauraJ, we need to stop calling LEF. If and when she can have her fans visit, that is up to them….I have not had the pleasure to meet Zenyatta or Team Z in person since I live on the East Coast. I want to see her more than I can express…we have to be respectful of this very large Breeding Farm. Thank you….
Barbara Wood
@Ensign–thanks for the link to Rags’ colt. Too cute.
Precious Z–I hope you are having a fun day. I needed to check in with you in the worst way today. It’s been a tough one. You are so adorable. Thanking God every day for you.

@livey. You may not have been a horse person, but I think you’re becoming one. It sort of grows on you, doesn’t it.
Gloria Jeanne
Stop fighting! It’s so lame! Dottie will take down the site- then what will you do! Lame! We are here for Zenyatta! Not your fighting. I have not read any comments on here since the last fight and now I remember why. I really only care about what is going on with Zenny. If your not careful, this might become a read only site. Thanks

@ Gloria,
I’ve asked several times for the insults to stop and for the topic to be brought back to Zenyatta & horses. I’m doing my part with my posts : )
@wingspanexpress
Love you Zenyatta, wrote a short poem about you and Rachel, along with some other things: wingspan.wordpress.com
May you always be blessed, and may you always inspire us all to be better people.

Hey, All. I just read and viewed an article by Barbara Livingston on DRF regarding photos that have surfaced of the great Man O’War’s funeral. While the article made me sad, the video imbedded in the article of Man O’War reminded me instantly of Z. Something about the shape of the head, the star and stripe and the look in his eyes, I see in Z. If you’re interested you can go to

This is the original “Big Red” and he died 2 years after I was born. I, of course, never got to see him run, but grew up on stories of his greatness. You can see in the faces of the people that attended his funeral the respect they held for him. And to think, his blood runs in our girl.
