Good Morning,
Well, I am feeling fabulous this morning! After I came back from Darley yesterday, I relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day in my regular routine with my friends. We had a great time ‘visiting’ and “just doing girl talk!” It was also a day when one reflects on one’s family. I have this great photo of Mario I wanted to share with YOU. When he came to visit me last time, Mario also spent some fun time visiting other farms. He really wanted to meet MY MOM, VERTIGINEUX. We were able to make this happen for him.
During his visit with Vertigineux, he spent a great deal of time just laughing and smiling! I guess it is because she is “MY MOM”! Mario commented that we have some very similar physical qualities. She is also a good-sized MARE with a PRETTY FACE and GREAT eyes! And look at those adorable EARS! I really believe all of my friends at BARN 55 would know them ANYWHERE! (I think my whole family has a ‘thing’ for fabulous EARS!) Very, very cute!
As for my personal ‘baby’ status, many of you asked several questions about what happens next. Well, with horses, the vets will scan me at approximately 16 days to see if “I look to be in foal”. This is considered to be the ‘early pregnancy scan’. If all looks to be in good order…they will rescan me about 12-14 days later. The primary goal of these early check-ups/scans is always to monitor the “IN FOAL STATUS.” The third pregnancy scan is done 42-45 days from the breeding date. This one is especially important. At this stage, it is really a good sign when all is A-OK with the pregnancy. So, I’ll update you as we go along…but the 42-45 day report is very, very important!
Like I said yesterday…HOOVES CROSSED.
All of my CA FRIENDS and BARN 55 are very excited! Dottie was teasing them….THINK “BLUE” or THINK “PINK.” The anticipation is so much fun! Also, I did want to tell you that I so appreciate ALL of the KIND WORDS, CONCERN, and THOUGHTS you shared with ME on my Web-site and Facebook Page. You are all such loving and caring friends! I hope the next year is a GREAT EXPERIENCE for all of us! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!
I will keep you posted!
With love,
HUGS TO ALL~

Oh Zenny
I do love your’s and Bernies ears. Horses say sooo much with
Them. One flash and the message has been given. I love one ear
Forward looking ahead and the other ear back listening to the rider.
My 17 hand thoroughbred gelding had the biggest expressive ears.
Unfortunately when he raced the were pulled. I have seen the starting
Gate guys pull on the ears to get the horses in the gate. He was soooo
Sensitive about his ears. But he still had a lot to say with them.
Sweet Dreams Zenny. Happy embryo/fetus fusion
Mariel
Oh good luck, Big Mare!!! We are all so excited about your visit to your beau & we wait with fingers crossed & a prayer on our lips for your well being & a healthy baby!
~Love, hugs, kisses & carrots!

Zenny…Congratulations on your mom and dad being names CA owners of the year!
We know you are proud of your entire family…equine and human. Just wanted YOU and Dottie to know how much we enjoy reading this blog.

luvhorses and buzzy – please, please lighten up. What would Zenyatta/Dottie think about the name calling??? tsk, tsk
Barbara Wood
@Robbie P.K.–since so many want to give to the fund to get Mario back to LE, how can we do it? It almost seems like someone “official” like Dottie (so sorry, Dottie, with all you do for us already)would need to set up an address where we could mail our small checks. Then no one here would have to keep up with it. And we would be informed when we get enough.

Zenny, your mother Vertiqineux, is beautiful and your dad, Street Cry…is so handsome. No wonder you are so perfect in every way !!
@ Laura, that worked with your mother when she was training, stated that your Mom, had a wonderful personality and loved people, very social, and aware, she taught you well. They both passed fantastic genes to you. I love your Mom’s head and eyes. Dad, has that look also…and of course the wonderful ears !! I love that you got your Dad’s wonderful dapples !! Stay warm, we have a storm on the way to Ohio, and you are close in Kentucky ! xxxooxox

I guess you have blinkers on. Please educate yourself
By reading his initial posts that started in mid december and the many many many posters that recognized he was not a fan. He has
Never addresses any of Z post. Just provided facts probably
Read from a book. I doubt like others that he is even
In the business.
David Ingordo is the bloodhorse stockman etc…..
In the business. Do you find him making inappropriate
Comments. No.

Hey Z! Glad all is going so smooth, but curious if your team is doing a post breeding ovarian ultrasound to make sure you ovulated within the necessary time frame for a successful breeding ???? Otherwise, we are thinking pink as in a little Zenyatta. Take care Z and stay relaxed and happy!
Sunny Farm
ZENYATTA , you certainly look like your dam !
What a nice mare she is and we love EARZ too , here at the farm.
The best ears I have ever seen
(Besides an Old Babson Bred Arabian stallion ) were on some horses in India just the other evening on PBS.
So tippy , they touched together, Beautiful !
(I couldn’t take my eyes off of those EARS !)
My opinion on horses is that they NEVER forget anyone they meet, let alone thier Dam.
Ensign : (Hello ! )
Please mark my prediction down for :One
FILLY (ZENYATTA & BERNADINI )
BLACK-BAY w/ faint star.(Few white hairs )
Oh, and one sock / hind
AND one “Ankle” (Hind)
It sure is fun to picture the FOAL !
Very exciting !

@Robbie PK
Can we think of someone (not Dottie) to organize
Coordinate the Mario project? Dottie/Z has done well
more than her share for us. Maybe someone at Barn 55 or
A participant in the Zenyatta lounge. Any ideas from
The Santa Anita folks.

Awwww Zenyatta your momma is BEAUTIFUL…I see where you get your BEAUTY. That was so nice Mario got to meet your mom…..families are so important. Thank you for sharing the information on the “baby status”. Looking forward to hearing good news. Good Night Sweet Girl..stay warm!
Mary McQuire
Love the picture of your Mom. She is a beauty but you are even more spectacular.
Linda Henderson
Thank you for the update and picture of your Mom. Beautiful Mother, Beautiful Daughter, Zenyatta.

Ensign not sure what the beef is. If someone doesn’t like your posting–just skip on by. It’s not that difficult. So I’m sorry that you have to deal with the nuisance.
This is about Z, her connections and The Big Wait we all are a part of. I actually appreciate some of this because now day to day I’ll learn what Z is going through. Almost like I owned a horse and bred her. But happily I don’t contribute to the over abundance of horses.
Can we all just try to be nice to one another?
Hay Z glad you had a good day and experience yesterday. You are as pretty as your mom.
Margaret
And yes, I have had the opportunity to meet the great Z. Unbelievably gentle, she is so kind to visitors. Patient beyond belief. I saw her Saturday before she left for Kentucky. There were lots of people who wanted pics with her. And aside from a couple of quick breaks she was with us for close to two hours I think. She just quietly stood there, her ears pricked and allowed people to stand next to her shoulder. Never once did I see her turn to nip, side step into someone. Just a very amazing horse.
The next day at her retirement sure she was a bit fired up. She was on the track which she had come to associate with running. But soon enough she came to understand that she wasn’t running and that people were there for her. That gorgeous head came up as did her ears.
I’ll be interested in hearing about feed and how all of that comes into play over the next months. Whether they’ll test hay for proper protein levels etc. It’s all very interesting.

Z teach your baby to dance and show off like you do!! I grew up at the racetrack and then married a jockey. In all those years I never saw a horse like you. That’s why so many people love you.
Kitei
@KIMBERLY ~ OOOOooooo… Love that name RoxZanne… =D>

Luvhorses and Ensign – I choose to visit this site because I love Z and all the goodness she has brought to so many lives. I do not mind other opinions or information that her fans may want to share, but I hope you two can stop all the pettiness and negativity between you and move on in a positive direction, PLEASE!!
M2 + Little Bit & Ready Lady (The team from the Little Bit Ranch)
Love your posts – I read them every day. Take care Lady Z and thank you Dottie. I also enjoy the education and camraderie that is developing here. Very good!
To those who seem to be developing a bit of an argument on this site – please stop. I don’t care to read any of the negative comments going back and forth (that is EVERYONE who is posting)and I am sure others don’t either. Let’s keep the atmosphere positive and cordial. This is not about you – it is about our beloved Zenyatta.
Tristesse
Dear Z, Your stirring posts bring joy to our lives. You make us all feel that we are being embraced in a warm Zenyatta hug!
And congratulations to the Mosses for again being named CA owners of the year–they certainly have earned this recognition.
@ Robbie PK:
Count me in for the fund for Mario to visit Z. I read in the “A Day with Zenyatta” article by Tracy Gantz in the Bloodhorse Zenyatta commemorative issue that Carmen Zamora, Mario’s wife, was Z’s hotwalker and that together Mario and Carmen were the two people most closely associated with Z. I’d like to contribute for Carmen to go with Mario to visit Z.
@Sharon in Seattle:
Well said! Z/Dottie are splendid role models for us all, aren’t they?
@Ensign:
Thanks for putting up with the misguided negativity that sometimes is sent your way. I appreciate your informative comments and hope you won’t give up.
Please extend my condolences to the connections of Clear Mandates.
Jani
Zenyatta thank you for all of the wonderful racing memories. You are a joy. Next time you see Dottie, tell her that she is doing a great job. We love and appreciate both of you.

First, a healthy foal. Second – I think I’d like pink, please. Ensign and L, I like your posts, and I like civility, so please ignore the vitriol. Next since horse color genetics is a “thing” of mine, I’d like to share this: To have white markings – streaks and socks, for example, not body splotches which are from different genes – a foal must have at least one parent with those markings. Two “solids” can’t have a marked foal, but two “marked” parents can have a solid. By the way, all greys (real ones, not roans – completely different genes) must have at least one grey parent. The Jockey Club is about 50 years behind science now that the horse genome has been mapped. Most colors and patterns can be tested. Maybe some day the JC will separate blacks from dark bays from browns. Maybe some day they will drop that “roan” designation which probably does not occur in TBs. Zenny’s foal will be dark bay or brown, and hopefully will inherit a little white trim from her. Last (hooray!) horses have exquisite memories, so I’m on the side of most mares remembering their foals and vice versa, although they might be ho-hum about it. Now there, Ensign, you are not alone. And Dottie, you’re a saint. Night Zenny.
Diana S
Ensign – just a quick note from yesterday. You are right – those were the photos of Rags and filly I was thinking of, and yes, right again – they weren’t pictured together. Such a little cutie though. Okay. We now return to our regular Zenyatta-holic programming. :-)

Thanks to all of you for all of the wonderful information about horses and foals etc, etc, etc. I can’t wait to see her foal, i think I will always love Zenny the most as she was so sweet to me when I visited her at Hollywood park and was so patient with all the pictures we took of her. But Vertigineux is very beautiful as well. Also, I think Zenyattas half sisters name is Elblussante with an e on the end, pronounced sontay. I think its a beautiful name and means dazzling.
Cora Lynne
Your mother is so beautiful, Zenyatta, and you look very much like her, you gorgeous girl you! I hope all will be well with you and the upcoming scans for the little one. Please keep your Diary Posts coming!

Your mother is beautiful. I hope you enjoy being a mother. Can’t wait to see your first baby. Love from Alabama, Eve
