Good Morning Everyone!
Happy Saturday! I wanted to share this photo of SOPHIE…along with her message to ME…with YOU. Needless to say, she is keeping up on all of my ‘activities and experiences’ while I’m at Lane’s End. Here, Sophie is nibbling on one of her favorite chew goodies…but she did want to remind me to EAT PROPERLY, WATCH MY DIET and TO MONITOR ALL OF MY SNACKS at this time.
Needless to say, this is all very exciting! I so appreciate all of your sweet messages. MARIO is an absolute doll! (So glad you noticed!) Please remember, that I do TANGO with my BARN 55 friends and MY TEAM all of the time. We do this often and really do keep in touch. It is so kind of you to want to start a fund for Mario to come and visit me. FYI, he will be able to come for visits with others from my CA FAMILY. MY TEAM will always offer him the opportunity to stay in touch with ME! THANK YOU, though, for all of your thoughtfulness and the kindness of this gesture. It is greatly appreciated by all of MY TEAM! I also wanted you to know how deeply touched Mario is by this act of kindness you have shown him!
Many of you have asked…what will happen next with me? The web-page on Fetus Development…that you are referring to in the ‘RESPONSES’…can be very educational. So, if you chose to review the material presented, it can be a very helpful reference to learn about the stages I will be experiencing during the next 11 months. This may be found HERE. Dottie was explaining to me…just like women have books to refer to when they are having babies….this can be a great reference for ME! There are always so many NEW things to learn in life! I am having a wonderful time exploring them!
On several occasions, Dottie has mentioned to ME how special it is to read so many of your wonderful, uplifting ‘RESPONSES’ in the DIARY. Often in life, we face various challenges. In one way or another, we ALL have them. They come in different forms, situations, and at different times of our lives. That is why it is so meaningful to see so many of you really trying to offer support, kindness and a WONDERFUL LOVING SPIRIT…not just to ME and MY TEAM…BUT TO EACH OTHER. It means a GREAT DEAL TO ME!
I know this type of support, devotion, and love is what encouraged me to become the HORSE I AM. I could not have done it all without the GENEROSITY OF SPIRIT that MY TEAM and MY FANS extended to ME! Thus, to see an extension of this continue with ALL of YOU via your ‘RESPONSES’ in the DIARY…REALLY MAKES ME FEEL SO PROUD!
With Love,
Hugs to All…Especially, at this time, to my dear friend, “BUD”~

HI YA ZENNIE, SOPHIE LOVES THAT TREAT, SHE IS TOO CUTE. WE OWN 4 CAIRN TERRIERS, THEY ALL LOVE SNACKS TOO. THE HORSES FAVORITES ARE LIKE YOURS, MINTS, CARROTS, AND APPLES. I BUY BIG BAGS OF CARROTS BUT THEY NEVER GET COOKED, THE HORSES EAT THEM. YOU WATCH YOUR FIGURE. LOVE TO ALL..SHERRY D.

Zenyatta lovely one: Thank you for the kind reception you, Team Z, and Mario Espinoza gave to the idea some of us had to help Mario visit you. It was reassuring to learn that the gesture was received with respect and to remember that Mario is part of your CA family and hence a permanent part of your life, near and far.
Please thank Dottie for the horse fetus time line. As someone who teaches a course on human childbearing I am familiar with images of the developing fetus, so much so that a fresh response to the miracle of gestation has faded somewhat.
But these pictures–watching a fetus become a baby horse, stretch its legs out and rest its head upon them, ready for the journey that is birth astonished me emotionally. That was YOU once, “the great racemare Zenyatta,” and all the other magnificent equine creatures that live or once lived.
Imagine, one such creature may be forming in the depths of your body–now that is easily as special as winning the BCC! What a lucky being, to be inside Zenyatta for 11 months–what wordless, conceptless wisdom that little-but-growing-bigger one must be absorbing from you. For you are, after all, a divine mortal, Zenyatta.
Love–Robbie
Karen
Beloved Zenyatta,
I love hearing you are doing the TANGO at barn 55. You are one of a kind. Your name says it all: Zenyatta (Top Of The World). And that you are. Thanks to Dottie for keeping us all so informed. And love seeing adorable Sophie. Is there any info on the Z pins? Would so love to purchase one. I love you, Zenyatta. I know you are in the hearts of so many and you are certainly in mine.

Awesome lady, you shared “pleasures” with Bernie. How exciting and now you are on your way to a whole 11 months of fun. I look foreward to hearing all the new things that are happening to you and what you are doing.
I met Penny Chenery and had a picture taken with wonderful John, what an awesome sweet smile he has.
Love you always,
Jess

Zenny my darling just wanted to drop in and say happy Saturday. I hope you are haveing a wonderful day. I hope you are eating good and just taking good care of yourself. I have said this before but Dotty Thank you so very much for keeping us updated on Zenny, it means so much to us and is so very much appreciated. I had a question I wanted to ask, I’m not sure if I read this hear somewhere or just dreamed it. Ha. Ever since I have been watching the Old Black Beauty series, I have just fell in love with the Black Stallions. If you guys have not seen the l990 the British New Adventures of Black Beauty it us just wonderful, so loving and just teaches you so much about horses. If you truely love horses you must see this series. It is about a 6 cassette set. So uplifting and just makes me happy as Zenyatta does. ( I know I kinda got away from my question) IN the Coloration of Zenyatta’s line and Bernardini’s I heard someone say there was Black. Why do we not see more Black Thoroughbreds? I hope that is not a stupid question.I have been a horse owner but I am always learning and would like to learn more. The horse that portrayed Black Beauty in this series is just drop dead beautiful. You will fall in love with him. I have starting watching the keeneland sales on my computer(yep want to go in person too) but you just don’t see the black horse. I hope hope to go to Ocala in April to see some of the sales. Not holding my breath, though to see the Black Stallion. Zen I was just thinking wouldn’t it be just wonderful if you had a black foal with just a little white blaze. Zenyatta’s any foals going to be wonderful, but itn’t it so happy just pondering about your foal, oh my. I’ll go for now Zen have a good evening and wonderul sunday. Love Ya Peggy

Zenny, you make me feel so happy. When I am having a bad day, if I think of you, I feel so much better! It is amazing what one horse can do for so many people! It is TRULY inspiring!! I can’t express how much we all love you and your team. Keep up with the TANGO and “girl talk.”
Love, Katie(future jockey)
P.S. I’m sure you will get to see Mario again soon. :)

@ Robbie PK — you express beautiful sentiments in your writng–quoting your last paragraph,… “Imagine, one such creature may be forming in the depths of your body–now that is easily as special as winning the BCC! What a lucky being, to be inside Zenyatta for 11 months–what wordless, conceptless wisdom that little-but-growing-bigger one must be absorbing from you. For you are, after all, a divine mortal, Zenyatta.” Have a good evening Robbie PK.

Miss Sophie Shirreffs – I think it may be new chew bones and toys for you because one of your dad’s horses, Mr. Commons, just won the 8th at Santa Anita! Our friend Mike Smith was aboard. Congratulations John!
L
@Peggy,
Black really is not a recognized color, usually the horse is registered as a dark bay or dark brown. Still for some ‘black’ Thoroughbreds check out Rock Hard Ten, Arch, Kris S, More than Ready to name a few of the top stallions out there right now.
Interesting fact about Walter Farley’s Black Stallion series. Farley is quoted as having said that it was the filly Ruffian who most embodied the qualities he pictured when he created the Black Stallion.
Lauren

Dear Queen-Z & Team-Z,
WOW!! What a race I just saw at Santa Anita…Mr. Commons got his head in front right at the wire, for two of your CA friends…Mike Smith and John Shirreffs. It was a very exciting stretch run, and reminded me of many of Q-Z’s finishes. Thanks Dottie for these very informative Diary Entries and for the bonus web-link, today. Congrats John on the win with Mr. Commons, and many thanks for all the wonderful pictures you share with Q-Z’s fans. Miss Sophie is as cute as can be!! and very photogenic.
Stay well and happy. Hugs to all. Fondly, OraJean

“Hi”…. to “TEAM ZENYATTA”, and all their Loyal ZENYATTA FANS….
Just in reference to my comment made regarding the book by Lawrence Scanlan….
The title is…
“THE HORSE GOD BUILT SECRETARIAT…HIS GROOM AND THEIR LEGACY”…
I apologize for the error…I forgot the MOST IMPORTANT Script of the title….
my apologies…

Peggy One
Hi, L, Just a littel comment about “black”. It is a recognized color but so few horses are actually black. If they have any brown in their ears or on their muzzle, they aren’t black. Those are designated as dark bay or brown. Have to be ALL black to be black! We just don’t see them very often.
L
@Peggy One,
Guess I’m just used to the horses that ‘look’ black like the one’s I listed off, being registered as dark bay or brown.
I ran a quick check and it looks like even Kris S is registered as a brkb or brwn and he was the darkest of the whole group!
