Dear My Johnny Be Good. Oh Dear Lord pray so hard your out of Gulfstream but I don’t know. They’re saying some may go to Gulfstream West, Palm Meadows this is crazy. This is all in a very bad area. Thought we had got you a little more rest and now this. Love Ya Johnny you got my heart and all my prayers. Good Lord be with you and all people and horses. Love You.
Hope My Johnny Be Good and all of the horses have gotten to a safe place. Prayers for safety and calm.
Hope you stay safe, too, Peggy.
Donna Z. and Sandy,
Prayers for safe harbor for your friends and for your sister (& husband), respectively.
I am sure the veterinary tech skills will be welcome during and after the storm.
May all be safe and sound. Keep us posted, please.
My best friend, Jamie lives in FL, north of Tampa. She & her husband will not evacuate and leave their animals behind. They have 4 horses as well as a herd of pygmy goats and several dogs. Jamie is also a veterinary technician & will probably be helping treat many animals in the hurricane’s aftermath. They are doing the best that they can to prepare for this monster storm.
I am very worried about their safety and have been praying for everyone, both human & animal who will be affected by this monster storm. It helps to know that many of you on the blog are praying as well.
By the way, does anyone know where Elizabeth from NM has been? I haven’t seen a post from her in quite awhile. She posted when she came back from vacation earlier this summer, but not since then. She usually posts pretty regularly… I hope all is well with you, Elizabeth!
My sister and her hubby were headed BACK to Florida from their other place in northern Georgia to get what they could out of their house and put everything possible inside. They said that the northbound lanes were jam-packed even early yesterday, and they saw LOTS of horse trailers filled with horses (so this was northern Florida). They left again about 4:00 yesterday afternoon from about an hour north of Orlando and hadn’t even made it out of the state by 10:00 last night. If you look on Google maps (with traffic enabled), there are scads of crashes on I 75. A very, very bad situation whether you are going or staying. Prayers for everyone!
A very nice debut for Frankel’s boy Herculean under Ryan. His other son Wadilsafa was 2nd.But scroll down for the photo of a very special visitor our boy got this week. http://www.facebook.com/frankelwatch/
Please keep all creatures great and small safe, Saint Francis. May all who evacuated the area, and especially those who remain stuck there, stay safe and live to see the sunshine again. Grant them comfort and protection from the storm. God bless them all.
Gulfstream has announced that they are closing down today and plan to resume racing next Wednesday. I hope that they can do this. Hope springs eternal.
Frankel’s girl Rubilinda has won according to Alex.African Rose dam of Herculean and Fair Eva is in foal to him again she has a yearling by Kingman.
De Coronado races tomorrow at Leopardstown in the 16.35pm a 1 mile 4furlong race.Tepin is for sale at fasig-tipton later this year. She is in foal to Curlin. Why are all these great mares getting sold?
Her owner is reported to have said that he is offering Tepin for sale because he is interested in racing only and others can better look after her new career. Undertaking breeding is complex and costly and best left to those who specialize in the care of mares and foals. It requires particularly deep pockets. Mares like Forever Unbridled are less likely to be sold if their owners are breeders themselves and have their own farms and broodmare bands.
Yes, I read later about Masterson’s interest in racing something similar to Rick Porter. No doubt they will all go to good homes given their pedigree. The reason I love jumps and geldings.
Max
Fortunately, geldings like Istabraq, The Fly and Kauto Star all found themselves in very good homes after retirement. The Moose is lucky too with the new career.
Dear Judy.Prayers for all in Florida as the storm sweeps in.No news yet about Mei Xiang but she is monitored 24/7 It was lovely to see Lady Cecil visiting her old friend.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley Willow and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Dear Judy and Max, Thank you so much for mentioning Gunn. Was hoping he might have headed North, but not the case. Praying so hard for all of them that are staying. Gunn and Johnny just two of my favories. Always concerned about all horses but Johnny’s just been on my heart with concerns for him.
One ray of hope that happened today. This guy came into the bank. Just overheard him talking about what was going on with him. Realized he was just passing thru. He was from Miami. I got to telling him about my concerns about the horses staying at Gulfstream. He starting telling me that he would feel pretty good about them as there was this huge strong building out there. I suppose that the horses could be put in.. Don’t know for sure if he knew, but he did sound optomistiic. He was evacuating to North Georgia.
Praying so hard for all in the path of this storm.
I read this same news that the barns at Gulfstream that have not been evacuated can handle the storm. Apparently they are up to code since Andrew. I like everyone else won’t be at any ease until this thing is over. It is always on my mind and I keep checking CNN.
Share your concern for Gunn, Johnny and all the others. Good to know there is a building for them up to code. Praying hard. Concerned for you too Peggy and Ann and Marshall. Hope Irma weakens. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Sandy, Hope your family is doing well. 75 has just been horrific. I usually take 75 to work, but i was just going to take the back roads. My first choice of back road, well it was packed today and yesterday too. So I took another back road home from work today, Well I made it. In pretty good time. We made CNN news today. Big traffic jam at the Ga-Fla LIne. Sandy you were right lots of horse vans heading north. So glad lots are leaving.
Thanks, Peggy. They made it back to northern Georgia about 5:30 in the morning (so more than 13 hours for a drive that is normally around 8). They hadn’t intended to do it all at once, but there was no option. Hope those that followed got out safely and found someplace to stay that didn’t try to wring every last cent out of them. Honestly!! In a time of crisis, you’d think people could be more charitable!
Gunn, Johnny, all horses at Gulfstream. On my knees praying so hard for all of you.
Told Judy that this man yesterday told me that they just ought to turn the horse’s loose. And let them let their natural instinct set in and fend for themselves. Don’t know about this, but can’t bare the thoughs of them being trapped in a building either. The thought of that horse in Texas up to his neck swimming will forever be on my mind.
Dear Lord please bring all through this safely
People are staying with the horses in the barns at Gulfstream. They are not locked up in barns and all alone. It looks to me like Gun’s trainer is riding it out with him. I don’t think that it’s a good idea to let thoroughbred horses loose in a city in a hurricane which may be the worst that we have ever seen. They’ve got a better chance with shelter and their grooms. Pray for this to be over.
I am so glad go know that grooms are staying with their horses. I have been looking for info on that very point. Praying hard for their safety. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Gulfstream Park has announced that they are keeping their kitchens open for as long as possible in order to feed the workers who are staying in place to care for the horses. God help them and everyone who is under threat.
Managers at Ernest Hemingway’s Key West home not heeding Mariel Hemingway’s plea to take the cats and go
By MARTHA ROSS Bay Area News Group UBLISHED: September 8, 2017
UPDATE: At around 1 p.m. PST, Dave Gonzales, executive director of the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, confirmed to CNN that he and nine other employees were staying through the fierce winds and rain expected with Hurricane Irma, saying the legendary author’s 1851 house, with its 18-inch-thick limestone walls is “the strongest fortress in all the Florida Keys.” Original story follows: Read here http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/09/08/mariel-hemingway-to-manager-at-ernest-hemingway-home-take-the-cats-and-go/
I am joining all of you in prayers for the people in Florida, Georgia and on up the east coast. Also, sending pleas for safety of all the animals and birds. I sure wish Gunny was somewhere else, like Kentucky. A special blessing for the people who are so devoted to their charges that they would stay and be with them.
Agree with you about Gun. Too bad that he did not linger at Saratoga after the Travers. It would be better on the nerves if all of those Gulfstream and other Florida horses were elsewhere. Very worrying.
A awesome performance by Harry Angel in the Haydock Sprint cup in heavy ground too.Owned by Godolphin and trained by Clive Cox he got a big hug from Adam Kirby for his efforts.Nice to see.
In Memoriam: Darren Fortune…
TORONTO, September 9 – A veteran horseman, accomplished rider and familiar face to all who visited Woodbine, Darren Fortune’s loss in a tragic training accident on Friday morning will resonate for many years to come.
The 43-year-old Fortune, a native of Barbados, galloped horses in the morning and worked as an outrider in the afternoon escorting horses on and off the track.
