: Congrats to RV. She ran a super race. I’m about as far away from the action as you can get so I didn’t know that Rachel Alexandra had so much trouble foaling. That being the case, he foal is even more precious. Also thanks for mentioning Pennmarydel. He hasn’t quite made it to the winners circle yet, but after watching all three of his races, it seem he has a decided tendency to run somewhat at least like our dear Zenyatta. He starts slow but then comes running. Hopefully, he’ll break his maiden soon and Coz will too. Let’s not forget Ziconic. I saw he had his second workout not so long ago. Here’s hoping his debut is not too far in the future. I’ve also seen a workout out or two for Jess’ Dream also. Oops almost forgot Margano. I’ve seen workouts listed for him as well. I do hope he gets to run another time or two.
Dear Max.Don’t worry I know all about our Royal Family’s love of hunting, fishing and shooting!I think William is rather a hypocrite talking about elephants and the ivory trade. It doesn’t mean to say when a species is plentiful (such as red deer)that we should and shoot hunt them! And as for breeding pheasants just for the hunters!I have seen the Queen despatching birds by twisting their necks! You will remember how Camilla used to love fox-hunting in her younger days! It’s a hard life for some animals.Sheena.
Dear Sheena, I’m still very worriedabout Jerico. Just a few minutes ago they were talking about him on CNN. They had a lion specialist on. They are worried about him on his own. And, the significance of the two males together is what they were talking about. I am worried about him being able to handle things on his own with the cubs and the females.
It is more usual for male lions to be on their own with their prides. The kind of cooperation between Cecil and Jericho happens from time to time but not very often. He will probably be okay as this single situation has been going on for over a month?
Dear Judy.We have a new sunday evening series now.Do you remember”Tommy and Tuppence”?Jessica Raines who used to be in “Call the Midwife”plays Tuppence. It’s highly watchable and I love the 50’s.Hope you get to see the series in the US.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs Sheena.X
I’m still processing yesterday’s big race (the Haskell) and thinking back to if there were any races in the past that I’ve watched that was ever so lopsided when the winner wasn’t even going all out out of consideration to the competition and still won handily and I found this example on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj198oUY-rQ
This is magnificent racing by the horse who still holds the records in all three Triple Crown races. Secretariat is in a league of his own. He is almost supernatural as a racer or the closest to it that we will ever see in this lifetime. I think that the same can be said of Zenyatta. Her 19 wins is incredible.
I know. It is a rare and special thing to have a horse so gifted and wonderful to behold both on and off the track that he or she is literally in a class of his or her own. A true legend The only three horses I can say that about are Secretariat, Zenyatta, and now the Pharoah. They are Horses That God Built.
Max
God built every horse.

Amen, Max.
They give us their all. Appreciate all efforts. Even ones like Moose! There was a starter last weekend who pulled a Moose move….not leaving the gate!
100% agree with you Max!! I so love and I am happy to have the movie Secretariat and the DVD given at the gates to the first 100 people at the 2010 Breeders Cup. (Zenyatta’s 20th race) of many of Z’s previous races
I am not sure I will be alive, but I do hope Zenyatta will have a book and movie of her life, especially her u n b e l i e v a b l e racing. There is so much to share about Zenyatta the horse too! My grand kids will know Z for sure when and if this happens. Z will always be my once in a life time special Queen!
hugs, Sally B
Deb E. Thanks for Secretariat’s Arlington race. I got the same goosebumps and tears in my eyes that I had so many years ago. Take good care, Mary Margaret.
Dear Max.I also remember there was an outcry back in the early 60’s about 61′ I think when Her Majesty and Prince Philip went on a tiger hunt while in India on a state visit.Prince Philip shot a tigress. The Queen Mother and Duke of York as he was known then loved big game hunting in the 20’s.William was given his first gun when he was a boy, maybe 12, I think he shot his first stag at 14.They have no regard for our 4 legged friends or those of the feathered variety!Even Kate was taught to shoot in the early days of her romance with William! That kind of lifestyle held no appeal for Diana.Sheena.
You grasp of your history is admirable. You are right. Diana was against all blood sports, which was unusual for a person of her class. She came as you know from one of the oldest aristocratic families in England.
The death of Cecil has set off a world wide outcry. The Empire State building has been lit up at night with murals of endangered species in his memory. Let us hope that all animals everywhere are treated one day as sentient beings and not as trophies.

This is a story about a journey of the soul; a quest inspired by the love of horses and the determination to photograph an American Triple Crown winner
.Less than a year ago, Bronwen Healy, widely regarded as the finest equine and Thoroughbred photographer in Australia, was battling cancer and undergoing radiation treatment. Now here she was embarking on a 10,000-mile journey from Melbourne to New Jersey with only one major goal in mind – to capture the magnificence of American Pharoah. http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/horse-racing-steve-haskin/archive/2015/08/03/bronwen-healy-s-american-adventure.aspx

Judy, My Night Prowler’s race is this Friday. I didn’t tell you but there are 15 horses races in that race. “National Museum Racing Hall of Fame.” Dear Lord. I’m worried, Now this isn’t the Derby. Geez. But, Javier is on board so that is good. Sitting on pins and needles.
Dear Shirlee, The Whitney this Saturday should be great. Too many horses in there that are my favorites. Your Lea and my Noble Bird are both slated to race. And, others I like as well. Post Positions are suppose to be announced Aug. 4 at 6. Can’t wait for this race.
I know it is packed with talented horses. Since my boy Lea is 6, I rather think this will be his retirement year after the BC. So hope he can do himself proud. He is such a beauty and I have loved him since I first saw him at Churchill on a rainy Saturday when his turf race was moved to the mud and he won easily.
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to Diastu in Tempe!!
Hope you had a wonderful day, Diana, and that you enjoy many, many more.

Dear Kathy. My mum always told me as the pain of childbirth got worse she realised the end was in sight!I am not sure I would have coped very well I’m afraid!!I hope Zoe does well in her contest she looks gorgeous in the photo.I had no idea it was Walter Melon day!I was just reading how Ray watched Hawley the last couple of weeks when he wasn’t too well. He’d be by his side right away if he heard him whimpering in the night.Such an incredible bond!It was wonderful to see the 3 “bobs” all cwtched”up on the nest in the early evening sunshine last night. The nest has been invaded by ants this week and they are on the perches too.I hear our Michael Dickinson is taking up training again.Always remember him having the 1st 5 home in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 83′ Bregawn won and he trained Da Hoss.Golden Horn will never run on dirt according to his owner (some thought of a clash with AP)sad they will both retire at the end of the season.Seems a professional hunter was trampled by a young bull elephant back in april. He was called Ian Gibson and was either tracking him or a lion for (you’ve guessed it)an American client with one leg!!!!The Dallas safari club paid his funeral expenses. The bull was in musth and he knelt on him not a pretty sight but everyone was quite “happy” on social media. It’s World Lion Day on august 10th and on his FB page they are inviting people to post selfies.Loki had a visit from Nancy his vet and he has put on weight!!The hot weather has been making him feel a bit sick though. Most of the meds he takes are for humans.I remember a couple of them my dad used to take.I loved the pic of the horse sitting on the sofa! There’s a sweet 3 legged mini-horse called Princess Angel Marie on FB friends with Mango.Hope you have a great day,Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
I guess that was one way of looking at it! I’m sure Zoe will do quite well. This new contest has unlimited voting. Zoe does have lots of adoring fans. Walter Melon day…TOO FUNNY! Yes, the account of Ray watching over Hawley was a real tear-jerker. Dogs are so loyal! I’m glad the “bobs” were all together again. That’s bad about the ants, though! Good for Michael Dickinson. Too bad about Golden Horn and his trainer. We would love to see them go on and on! This whole professional hunter thing is totally out of hand. That was a pretty bad way to go. What do you expect, though? We are invading wild animals’ territory! Glad to hear that Loki has put on weight. Yes, the horse on the sofa was pretty funny. Will look for Princess Angel Marie. RIP Les Munro. The last of the Dambusters has died in his native New Zealand aged 96yrs.He continued flying until he was 95!The best generation are sadly leaving us.He will be reunited with the band of brothers now.We are forever grateful.Sheena.
RIP Les Munro
Thank you from a very grateful baby boomer.
Sheena, you are correct about the best generation, what heroes! Wow, flying until age 95 — that is incredible. I am sure that he is flying high again, with the angels now.
There is a strong rumor that Travers weekend at Saratoga will also feature the second race of Rachel Valentina AND POSSIBLY the very first race of the Chestnut Prince himself! This is only a rumor, and I’m currently taking it with a huge grain of salt. Can you imagine, though? The Triple Crown champion in the main race and the daughter of Rachel Alexandra and the son of Zenyatta also running in other races the same meet? The press will go absolutely insane!
It would be nice, but the condition book for the end of the meet, including Travers day, is not out, so there’s no way to tell what races will be available. I can tell you that there is no stakes race for 2-year-old fillies that day at Saratoga. The first two condition books did not include any allowance races for 2-year-olds, so unless that changes, an allowance is not a possibility for RV. I believe that her next race will be a stakes of some kind, though.
I think that was put out there as PURE SPECULATION and little more than complete wishful thinking.
Like LauraJ says, the condition book doesn’t seem to line up for it and it’s probably too soon for Ziconic at least.
Deb E.
I agree. That’s why I said I’m taking the whole rumor thing with a HUGE grain of salt. I’d rather Ziconic wait to race when HE’S ready and it’s safe for him physically to compete. Someone on a HR forum I read sometimes said he/she had a “friend” who asked someone on Ziconic’s team when he’d be having his first race and the person said soon. And then the rumor mill steamrolled. At least we are about 50% sure AP will be at the Whitney in Saratoga, but ultimately that call is up to Bob Baffert. I do think that it’s great that the public’s interest in horse racing has gotten to the point now that rumors like this are happening (even if not true). Thank you, Pharoah!
Lots of commercials for Pioneer of the Nile and Coolmore. Texas Red was impressive. Can’t wait for Wise Dan’s return. Of course I am eagerly awaiting Coz and Ziconic . Make that eagerly and anxiously. The heat in East Texas is unbearable. Lots of prayers for those in danger from wildfires. While my mind is fully occupied with reading and horse racing I must admit I can’t wait for FOOTBALL SEASON. The fall is my favorite time of the year. Doesn’t it just seem like yesterday when Zenny won the Breeders Cup Classic? Belated happy birthday Diana. Sheena I just loved the books with Tuppence and Tommy. They’ve been showing Foyle’s War on the ovation channel and I love that series. You can’t beat British detectives.
Dear Max.The pride of Wales Al Kazeem has been retired once more.Although recovered from the injury he sustained in the Tattersall’s John didn’t think it fair to risk him again.Roger has paid a glowing tribute on his website. He is to return to the place of his birth for another try at a stud career but whatever happens I know he will have a wonderful future. He was courageous and beautiful.Hugs Sheena.
Sad to hear this, but Al did very well on his return and deserves a nice, long retirement. He was courageous and is a very handsome horse. His head is noble. Hopefully, he will have more luck this time with the ladies, especially the mares from Wales. Live long and prosper, Al.
Thank you Alys for such cool pictures of Z!! Those ears could capture a lot of water, but I know they are careful. Z is still so stunning, whether wet or dry! I can not believe this! We saw friends up North and were gone when AP ran the race and we could have gotten the channel up there for the race. Thrilled for AP!!
Congrats AP, just stay safe and healthy. Sally B.

Those who revel in working the world of the internet and e-mail have believed they deleted certain things they sent out-but the words were deleted only on the surface. These things can be retrieved and often are.
Indians have always known this to be true-that if you send out any kind of word, it is frozen there in the ethers, forever preserved. Silence is truly golden-though most of us discovered it after too many things had been spoken. But if our remorse is genuine and we ask to be forgiven, those words can become useless and irretrievable. It is important that we remove the power of past words and replace them with thanksgiving.
The first peace…is that which comes within the souls of men when they realize their relationship, their oneness, with the universe and all its Powers.

Max
Sad to hear this, but Al did very well on his return and deserves a nice, long retirement. He was courageous and is a very handsome horse. His head is noble. Hopefully, he will have more luck this time with the ladies, especially the mares from Wales. Live long and prosper, Al.

Thank you Alys for such cool pictures of Z!! Those ears could capture a lot of water, but I know they are careful. Z is still so stunning, whether wet or dry! I will never grow tired of Zenyatta’s pics or her young. I am 70 and wonder at what age I will be when I finally get to kiss and hug Z; my hopes never die.
Big hugs, Sally B

Just saw a wonderful article on Our Queen on Bloodhorse.com. Tells her whole story complete with pictures. Think it is a repeat for them as Z Princess was still with us when it was written. Rather long but a great read.

Sandy (Northeast Ohio), Thank you so much for posting the pics of all Judy’s favorites in her life back home.
Browsing through…Thank you for the posting of Rachael V’s race and first win! I guess we will never know with zprincess passing so soon what competition the two of them would have showed in a same race. Happy for RV but so sad for Moss’s loss, Z and all who loved her because she was Z’s!
I can not believe this! We saw friends up North and were gone when AP ran the race and we could have gotten the channel up there for the race. Thrilled for AP!!
Congrats AP, just stay safe and healthy. Sally B.

August 5 Cherokee Devotional
