Zenyatta’s boys are at Saratoga with John Shirreffs. They’re enjoying the greenery and beautiful weather. Scroll down for a quick video of Ziconic in his stall.
Dear Kathy.Great devotional! How are you coping with the heat? It’s a lovely cool day here mid 60’s.Very quiet on the Dyfi today no girls screaming on the nest for lunch! It’s always sad to see an empty nest.We have to pretend it isn’t Monday according to the ratties and they had treats from their bisitors yesterday.Poor Ray is losing many friends lately and he was missing Hawley.Mio(the cat)will be going to his new home soon but there are so many feral cats about and they have no TNR programme. It was wonderful to hear about Gizmo I have followed him from the start. It’s a real feel-good story when we hear of so much animal abuse these days. When I think of the little foal left to die in a field and to see him now it’s a miracle.Poor Mango had a lot of rain and boomers last night and Judy is fed up some fault with the trailer lights and this is the 2nd one plus she has a dental appt.Hovis enjoyed his canter in the stubble and behaved perfectly. Our boy must be sooo happy!!!York festival this week woo-hoo!Have a great Monday(remember to turtle)Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
The AC runs pretty much nonstop plus I try to not move around very much. It’s supposed to start cooling off now, thankfully. It will be in the 90s. Still pretty hot but not as bad as we had during the heat wave. I’m glad there’s no screaming today on the Dyfi. You’re right…empty nests are no fun! I’ll have to work hard at pretending it’s not Monday. That was nice of the bisitors to bring treats. Yes, it seems Ray is always mentioning a friend who has crossed Rainbow Bridge. I hope Mio is so happy in his new home. As you say, there are so many who don’t have a home to go to. I so enjoyed the outcome for Gizmo. We would love to see happy endings for all animals. Poor Mango, I imagine all the thunder and lightning is so scary for her. What a shame Judy is experiencing trailer woes. So glad things are looking up for Hovis! Enjoy the York festival! I will definitely remember to turtle. Having dinner with my cousin, my aunt and Steve tonight. My cousin goes home to Reno tomorrow, will come back again on Sept. 5th. My aunt’s surgery is scheduled for Sept. 10th. So glad it’s happening. Of course she’ll have post surgery pain, but she will recover from that and she’ll also need extensive PT. I pray she’ll be able to resume her normal life. Have a great Monday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Dear Sheena,
Just read Jamie Spencer’s comment about the Beverly D and he made a very poignant
comment. Irad Ortiz is a 20 ish young jockey, he is very good, but he made a very exaggerated response to get the stewards attention. Unfortunately that happens in the US and not so on the International stage. If we are going to invite international competition here in the US we need to learn to play by international rules to level the playing field. The games we play here should not be played on the international stage
granted the liberal use of the whip by Jamie, but our rules are different and by no means
was it over use. I hope there is an appeal and the issue brought up is reviewed as well as international rules so a fair and just outcome can be made. However, I do understand why the stewards made the decision they did at the time. So glad Jamie has spoken out in a very polite manner.
Article on Beastie from 8/14/15. Wow, he’s huge in that photo next to the other horse and very focused winning the King’s Bishop. What a handsome boy. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy and Tizgood. As Jamie stated there is an unwritten rule that jockeys will never criticise each other in public. There are plenty of weighing room brawls and even fisticuffs but Jamie felt he had to speak out about the decision.Love and hugs Sheena.
Dear friends,
I’m “on the road” and woefully behind, but I wanted to share some sad news. Our friend Mary P from New York recently lost her husband, Jim, who died at the beginning of the month. Jim was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of lung cancer so this was a great shock to Mary who had been his wife for nearly 50 years. I know you will want to join me in conveying your sympathy and support to Mary.
Sandy
Sandy,
Thank you so much for letting us know about Mary’s husband. Will leave a note for her at the bottom of this page. God’s many blessings to you. with love, Elizabeth
Dear Mary P,
All of us here on Zenyatta’s blog are so sorry to hear that you lost your husband. Just know that you and all your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Hopefully, as time goes by you can just remember the wonderful fun days you had together.
Dear MaryP.Sending you my prayers at. what must be a very sad time in your life. You were together a very long time.May you find great comfort in your wonderful memories.God bless you Hugs Sheena.
@sheena.davies(wales): I see that your Tian Tian’s nannykeepers have closed down the panda house in Edinburgh so she can have absolute quiet as she nears the end of gestation. By sheer coincidence, today the National Zoo in D.C. shut down all the indoor habitats, so our Mei Xiang, who is also nearing the end of her gestation cycle, can have absolute silence. I checked in on Mei this afternoon, and she’s doing a lot of body licking and boo stripping for her nest.
Dear Mary P,
So very sorry for the loss of your husband. Will be keeping you in my prayers, as I know most or all of us in Zenyatta’s fan family will be. with love, Elizabeth
Dear Deb E.Yes,I received a newsletter about Mei-Xiang today and she seems tired and restless.Let us pray she will produce a little cub soon.It will be Tian-Tian’s(Edinburgh) birthday on the 24th what a lovely surprise if her cub were to arrive that day.Gosh, all these youngsters and then foal watch!Plus my ospreys will be leaving soon.Hugs Sheena.
Dear Everyone, I am so happy and relieved. Maverick Wave is OK. Was so upset watching that race. So upset. Knew I had to find out something. Talked to a wonderful source today. Max you and Judy amaze me about your great knowledge. It was about the soft turf footing. Very bad weather that came down made the track really bad. And several didn’t handle it well. I was told all about it and basically that’s what it came down too. I asked over and over and he’s OK, and they said yes. And Thank You Dear Lord for his jockey W. Buick. I’m so excited think I am remembering his first name I think is William forgive me if I’m wrong. So happy hopefully I will get to see him another day. Well maybe I will have to watch all his races in Great Britain. But TVG shows them so I am happy. Will still hope nothing shows up in the next few days. Today it sounds good.
I just knew he was going to the front Saturday as he did, and when he started being eased, oh gosh so upsetting. The races I have seen from him he always went to the front, and the Huxley was great was so hoping he could do that again. But, I’m just happy he’s alright. Tears of joy.
Dear Judy&Max.Did you hear of the missing emu in Newmarket today?Police thought it was Frankie’s but I think it’s been caught now and been named Eric.Obviously a pet he was so tameHugs Sheena..
No, I hadn’t heard about the lost Emu, Eric. Glad he is OK. Doubt Frankie’s Emu, Bruce, would wander far from the life of luxury that he has. One lucky bird. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank and all the Sweeties
What a rough day!! I had to have my 26 year old standardbred down today. He has had a wonderful life. Never sold, his original owners were part of his life from the time he was born until today. He was the California breeders cup champions for 3 year old trotters. He was given to me as I recovered from breast cancer years ago.I had to put my TWH mare down 2 weeks ago from complications from chooking. I am now horseless. I have been blessed with wonderful horses. My pasture will look so empty for so long. Both horses especially the standardbred (Picture Perfect A) has helped me form such incredible friendships. Horses are truley a gift from heaven. I hope everyone who reads this gives their special animals in their life a little extra love tomorrow in memory of Abby and Pic .
Blessings to all

Dear Pam,

Dear Pam in FL,
I am so sorry that you had to put both of your horses down in the past couple of weeks. It’s bad enough putting one animal down, much more two in such a short period of time and my heart goes out to you. I will keep you in my prayers that your pain & sadness will ease over time & the good memories Abby & Pic shared with you will bring smiles to your face. I am sure that both of your horses will be waiting to greet you when your time comes (hopefully not for a long time). May our thoughts & prayers help you know that you are not alone. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.
Dear Mary P,
Please accept my sympathy & prayers in your loss of your beloved husband. I cannot imagine how much you are hurting. I have no magic words to help you feel better; I wish I did. All I can say is that I care that you are hurting so much & that I will keep you & your family in my thoughts & prayers. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you through this most difficult time.
prayerfully,
