Dear Sheena,
Golden Horn has a pacemaker for the JI,
Dick Dutwilie(sp); Gosden says “all horses
like to be lead” and they don’t want a mad dash
for 4 furlongs, it was an easy decision”.
Go GH.
This is going to be the race of the world, the Euro’s
are not afraid to go at it. Can hardley wait. Hope all
stay healthy and sound. A great match between
two Euro greats!!!!!
Dear Tizgood.Ha-ha Dick Doughtywylie!! GH had to make the running in the Eclipse and, this is just my opinion, it was tough on him.I know a lot of you don’t care for pacemakers but I hope Dick will help GH.It should be a wonderful race.Hugs Sheena.
Dear Sheena,
I read what Gosden said and it makes perfect sense, Dick has been used for other greats
as well and he just moderates the pace so GH does not use himself up. Seems like the strategy in the last race was to let him go first and use himself up. And as for rabbits, the Ramsey’s are using one for Big Blue Kitten in the Million. There is nothing wrong with it.
Like Gosden says, horses like to follow each other, why not put in a leader. There is an article in bloodhorse about betting on the rabbit in the Arlinton Million. I don’t think in general all American do not care for rabbits on certain people.
I am so looking forward to the match between GH and Gleneagles. Maybe Adian would bring Gleneagles to meet WD. Don’t think Keenland would suit him, it is a very strange track. I just wish a Euro champion would meet our WD, he is a monster and deserves a good competator. Hope your weather has cleared.
Love and hugs
Pacemakers are frowned upon in U.S. racing because it gives an advantage to the horse who has one. It’s a type of control mechanism of a race, although it doesn’t always work out. Neither Secretariat nor Zenyatta nor other U.S. champions needed any help to set the pace for them. The Pharoah does all the work himself. The Dan is also out there on his own. Actually Dan might like it even better if he didn’t have a jockey,
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Never liked the use of a “rabbit”. Always feel so sorry for the horse who gives it all he’s got. I secretly wish he pulls a fast one and goes on to win. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. There are examples when this tactic has backfired big time. The pacemaker At First Sight came in second in the Epsom Derby in 2010. Ballydoyle used him to help the odds on favorite, Jan Vermeer, who ended up in 4th while another Ballydoyle favorite, Midas Touch, was 5th. At First Sight is a chestnut. Human manipulation does not always work with either chestnuts or the racing gods.
Dear Sheena,
We actually do not use pacemakers in the US because the majority of our racing is done
on the dirt and our horses leave the gate very fast and keep a fast tempo through out the race. Whereas in Europe, your horses leave the gate more slowly and have a huge kick at the end of the race so it is more important to have an even tempo at the beginning of the race. We have never had any pacemakers in dirt racing, but as you see The Ramsey’s are using a Rabbit or pacemaker in the 2015 Arlington Million. They have been recognized as Eclipse winning owners and Breeders as well as their stallion Kitten’s Joy
as an Eclipse Winning Stallion and Racer so Pacemakers are accepted in the US.
Hope you enjoy the Million.
I remember when Richard Hughes came over and ran in the KY Derby he was shocked
as well as his horse was shocked at the speed at which the horses left the gate and the speed at which the sustained their run to the first turn at churchill. He even mentioned that it took his breath away as well as his horses, so a pacemaker for dirt races is not really necessary.
The use of a pacemaker in Europe arises for reasons of distance not race surface. Speed is less of a factor in those staying races, but pace is. There are more staying races in Europe than in the U.S., where probably only the Belmont remains at a mile and a half as the longest race. The last leg of the Canadian Triple Crown is a mile and a half and it is on turf. I do not recall the use of pacemakers there.
I thought that Palace Malice has the perfect prep for the BC last week. If I was the trainer, I would try to get one more race into him before the BC. By the way,you might be a redneck if your dog was either you best man or maid of honor at your wedding. Actually, that doesn’t sound so bad.

Tizgood
Max
Pacemakers are frowned upon in U.S. racing because it gives an advantage to the horse who has one. It’s a type of control mechanism of a race, although it doesn’t always work out. Neither Secretariat nor Zenyatta nor other U.S. champions needed any help to set the pace for them. The Pharoah does all the work himself. The Dan is also out there on his own. Actually Dan might like it even better if he didn’t have a jockey,

Dear Sheena,
Thanks for the correct spelling.
He is a great pacemaker.

Love and hugs to you my dear friend
Max
