Dear Max.As you know things have gone quiet for Tom since the Frankel days.I liked the way he handled himself with the media scrum,he was always so polite and well-mannered he always let Frankel do the talking they were a perfect partnership so it was good to see him win today. The cesarewitch is an old race named after Tsar Alexander II.It’s a race that starts in one county and ends in another Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border.A flat race that might suit our Moose!!He must be freed!Sheena.
Dear Max.Yes,I read about loukanikos yesterday. He had a good home after the riots there. As you say there must be a riot up in Heaven tonight.I wish Moose learned how to kick the butts of the BHA!!Freedom for the Moose.Sheena.
Sheena. My thoughts exactly. Lou thankfully also passed quickly while sitting on a couch. Noble beast. I won’t forget him. He made riots appear heroic and fashionable. The closest that I have come to that kind of thing are Animal House food fights.
Moose, you’ve done more than enough time. It’s ridiculous that a popular horse is banned for this long. Country status for the Moose. The United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Mooseland.
Sheena. Read that article about Moose on his Twitter. I’m emailing the beak when Nigel makes his plea. The Mr. Ed response to the beak line that the ban is to protect the public: yeah, right! The public knows and loves the Moose. Risk is what betting is all about.
Mad Moose. Free him now!

Max,
Great to hear the Beast is doing well after his surgery. Glad they are holding him out until next spring to give him a good chance to recover fully. Best of luck to Beast and Snake.
Dear Max.Protect the public from Moose! Are they nuts?Maybe he needs protecting from the jockeys, remember when he said he would prefer a female jockey.Kick butt Moose!Sheena.
Sheena. Yes, I remember for sure. He preferred someone like that Milkshakes girl. He also wants Annie Power to visit. Those two together would be interesting. She’s so tiny in her chestnut cashmere. The Moose is a national hero, not a risk.
There is no horse like Moosie. Accept no substitutes.
Dear BGG- The tribute to Sadler’s Wells was EXCELLENT, thank-you for the link and
the opportunity to learn more about this great thoroughbred sire.
Sadler’s Wells was truly remarkable. (many will know this, bear with me). Like his father,Northern Dancer,he was not the horse in the barn that everyone noticed at first, but he was also”a little fighter” and soon showed his heart and talent on the track.I am happy that he took “the short drive down the lane to Coolmore Stud (Norfolk) where he remained for the rest of his life”. He lived a long life to age 30. Fortunately he was not only a world class sire but has also passed on his talent to his daughters and is knows as a top broodmare sire as well. Poignantly,in “the weeks following his death the two horses to set the racing world alight were his grandsons Frankel and So you Think, sons of his Derby winning duo Galileo and High Chaparrel.” Sadler’s Wells had an amazing ability to pass his talent down through both his sons and daughters and their offspring continue the legacy.I really enjoyed learning about him today.
As expressed in many posts, win or lose we love them all. There are many fans/horse and animal lovers on this blog who make a difference for those who need it most. Little Thurzel, Sir,Charlie,Dubai, Hovis and all of them have a special place in our heart. I have learned about Old Friends and the Sanctuary where Sally B. has been such an advocate and many of you help in numerous ways. There are loving and responsible owners on the blog as well who are doing a great job.Mr. and Mrs. Moss have set the bar high as far as the care of their horses and contributions to Old Friends and raising awareness for retired racehorses. Racing fans share their knowledge so generously here and at the bottom of it all is a love and appreciation for these horses who win our hearts.
Most of all thanks to Zenyatta for continuing to shine your light on us all.We delight in following you and your beautiful youngsters, and we are thankful for this blessing thanks to Team Z and Lane’s End.
Oh boy, do I feel like a complete dill! My dear Dad used to say “there’s no fool like an old fool” and I’ve just proved him correct. Went onto the blog in a migraine fuzz, and ended my comment to Max with “goodbye” not “cheers”. What a total duffer!
That said, I’ve not wanted to talk about issues with my little girl while the memories of Sir are so raw for Sally. I know the loss of Cigar has hurt a lot of you, but he had lived his magnificent life, and retired to be loved. Sally has had to be Sir’s champion over awful odds.
We (Jeir and I) have now realised that my little girl’s head is in a really dark place. She is frankly terrified of the halter. I spent all day Friday in her paddock trying to get her to accept it, but the only way I could get close was to stand in front of her, put the offending gear on the ground, and only then would she reach out her neck for a treat. I’ve said before we have the rest of our lives to overcome this problem, but it doesn’t stop me from getting very depressed at both her treatment and my inability to bring her out of the darkness. We’ve got some unseasonably cold weather for the next week, so have to get a weatherproof coat on her. We’re going out as a pack this afternoon (Sunday) – that is Phil (my husband) and General (of course!) to see if we can use her paddock mate Red as a lure – I’ll catch him and see if she will see if that is an acceptable option. Just praying that it will all go smoothly.
I’ve got to go the panel beater tomorrow to get a quote on repairing my car after the famous kamikaze kangaroo episode of last week.
Sorry for the mess up in the post, and thank you all for caring. Love and hugs KathyR

It is so great to hear from you! We love you and Thurzel!. Great idea to put the halter on the ground, she may eat a stud muffin from it next time .Some natural horsemanship may help/ an expert use to desesensitizing slowly in steps.
I had a pony who was afraid of water and desensitizing over time had great results.
She almost drowned as a youngster in California but got over her fear One day she went smack through a big puddle on the trail on her own and I was so surprised.. Horses are brave and resilient with the right help.
Big hugs to you and Thurzel, Debbie
Praying for Dubai and Australia, may they make a full recovery.
Dear KathyR
Sheena is right,it takes lots of time for your little girl after what she has been through and you are clearly the person for the job.
Down the road someone who is an expert and gentle and goes slowly may also help..
The success with the pony came from patience and going in baby steps over a long period of time. Wanted to be encouraging but also want to be sensitive to your situation. My apologies, think it may have come across the wrong way. Just want you to have hope. Debbie.
Thanks for the beautiful pics of Zenyatta and Princess Z! Princess Z looks happy to be with her friends. Zenyatta, like always, is stunning!

The Best News!! Just came back from my second trip for the day to Jeir (it’s just after 7pm, Australian Daylight Saving Time). The pack trip was not successful – the day was muggy, and General was becoming distressed waiting in the shade in the car, so we pulled up stumps, took him home, and I went back on my own. One of the Jeir people, Jessica kindly came down to the paddock to keep the pesky blokes at bay, and after a short bit, the little girl came up to me, took her current favourite a carrot, and bingo! One halter in position! Once she was tied up to have a grooming, she totally relaxed, half closed her eyes and was just so beautiful. Jessica had only seen her with her rugs on, and was very impressed at just how impressive my little girl is in appearance, and how fine her coat is. So she’s now protected from the crazy weather approaching with a fresh cotton rug, and her lightweight breathable waterproof coat. But the wonderful thing – she just didn’t want to wander off – took the last of my carrots, but then stood by the fence for a smoothing on her beautiful face! So thanks for all the good vibes and prayers on her behalf. Just so happy! Hugs KathyR
Kathy,

Many thanks for your kind messages – Debbie, I’ve thought about a natural horsemanship type bloke, and know where I can contact one if necessary. I just think my little girl is so close to total trust, just want to persevere the way we are, but your suggestion is gratefully accepted!
Hugs KathyR
