I am sooo sorry to read about the injury to our beloved Wise Dan.
He is in good hands with Mr.Fink and his team and | wish him relaxing healing days and a full recovery. Love you Dan,you are the man, forever and always.
Dear Max.Yes,indeed horses do surprise us.I would love Noble Mission to run well in the Champion stakes for Lady Cecil, the ground will certainly suit him!Mukhadram has been retired too also JP’s Captain Cee Bee he’s going to Martinstown,he’ll have a great retirement there alongside Istabraq.Have you ever managed to see Wise Dan in the flesh?Free the Moose. He wants to run!!!Sheena
Sheena. Saw an article in the RP referring to Mission as Frankel’s half bro. You’d think that they would get that right? I’d love to see him get a win at Ascot. He’s a worker, and a win would be good for Lady Cecil. Hope that Abdullah keeps him in training. GG is slated to keep going next season.
I have never seen Dan in real life, but I would like to see him. I’ve got his address in Lexington and will send a get well card. LoPresti says that he’s in no pain and wants to race. He’s mad that he cannot get out on the track. One of a kind. They’ll start some therapy to help the healing process. Strangely enough standing on a fractured bone actually speeds up its healing. Fink will ensure that Dan gets the best care possible. Enchanting Lisa, you have to bring home the groceries now.
Free the Moose!
Hope you get to see Danny some day. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. No doubt because I will go see him when he retires. Until he does, he is too busy for visitors.
I looked again at Enchanting Lisa’s win last week. She’s tiny like the Beast! Also wears a shadow roll like Zenyatta. She has Danzig in her pedigree. Must be a feisty filly. The younger one won’t even come when called. What a great herd!

Dear Max:
They’re a magnificent family. Power Up Danny and my beautiful Dubai. Loose The Moose! Love and Hugs, JB
Sorry to hear about Wise Dan, but the good bit is that rest will resolve the problem. Always start to worry as my favourites get older and get these niggling injuries. Being a worrying type, I’d retire him if he was mine, but he obviously has a caring crew to look after his best interests.
Putting on the rugs is indeed a workout – surprisingly, once the little girl has got over her fear of the halter, she is totally relaxed with coats being dragged off and heaved on. Her paddock is a great spot – mix of undulating and steep inclines (perfect for the little girl to practice her Melbourne Cup run!). Cheers, KathyR
KathyR. Thurzel is very impressve looking for such a tiny horse. I like the model pose in that blanket. I’ve never seen a horse blanket like that one. Good choice for a tiny girl.
Fink will certainly do right by Dan. If it is best to retire Dan, Fink will retire him. He retired Dan’s mother when she had complications from foaling. He also retired his older brother, Successful Dan, but is trying to find another career for him. Fink loves that whole family. They are like his children. They are all named in one way or another after his daughter.
Delighted to get that update on Dan’s owner – restores hope in the industry when one hears about the good guys. Cheers, KathyR
Max
KathyR. There are good guys. For example, Jerry and Ann Moss look after their horses. EP Taylor micro managed Northern Dancer. He refused to accept advice to geld him when the trainer had recommended it. Had it been otherwise no Nijinsky, Frankel, Black Caviar and many many more.
Went to see Dubai today and he was standing up most of the time. He places his front legs out in front of him to keep most of his weight on his back legs. He didn’t want any treats. I gave him kisses on his beautiful nose. The vet is coming out tomorrow morning. I think they may do x-rays. Love and Hugs, JB
To all,
Oh what a sad day again today. RIP beautiful Jazil. I wonder what could have happened in the paddock that he had to be put down, and only 11 years old. Then to find out about our beloved Danny boy, that is sure bad news too. I’m sure he won’t be missed at the BC by a lot of his opponents, I think this horse could beat anyone.
Judy B, prayers for your Dubai, just heard what a horrible thing you think caused his foot issues…….disgusting to think someone would do that. Sending healing prayers for this baby hope they can heal his foot. Hugs to you.
Happy BirthDay to Ann, hope you have a glorious day and your sweetie is doing much better.
CONGRATULATIONS to Lanes End and My beloved “INDY” who is second on the leading broodmare sire list. Way to go you grand old man!!!
Dear Celeste, Judy, Max, Sandy, shirleeinindy, Barbara and debbie.s:
Many thanks for your kind comments on my little girl! I’m a totally biased Mum, but think she’s the most beautiful horse in the world (know you understand where I’m coming from Mrs Moss and the magical Zenyatta!) Hugs KathyR
Dear Max.Oh,Dan will have the best care.I hope you will get to see him in person one day just as I’d love to visit Frankel.I know NM is his 3/4’s brother .I wonder if Abdulla will keep him in training I really hope so.Free the Moose. We need him!!Sheena.
Sheena. Time for a short recap of Frankel pedigree details. Bullet Train is Frankel’s 3/4 brother. Kind is Bullet Train’s mother and Sadler’s Wells is his father. Sadler’s Wells is Frankel’s grandfather. Noble Mission is Frankel’s full brother as they both share Kind and Galileo as their parents. Morpheus is a half brother to Frankel. Kind is his mother and Brad Pitt is his father.
I think that Noble Mission should stay in training. He was just ordinary until he reached the age of 5. Now he’s special. Like Dan, he’s a late bloomer.
Free the Moose. No one knows when he will bloom.
Dear Judy.I was extremely sad to hear what had happened to Dubai it makes one wonder what goes on in some stables.prayers continue for his recovery.

Dear Zenyatta I just wanted to tell you that you are again apart of my classroom. I have named every period a horse name. When the children hear their horse’s name they are to pay attention and focus on me. Period 1 is Zenyatta, 3 Uncle Mo, 4 Mistletoe, 5 Little Silver Charm, 6 Blame and 7 Cozmic One. What is cute to me is that the children are already making pictures and cards for their horse. I will be showing your pictures and videos. I am so thankful to Lane’s End and your Team for sharing your life. My classes learn so much. Thank you to all and to you Zenyatta for bringing all of this into my life and the lives of my students. Sending many Hugs and Kisses from Mrs. Voltz and Homeroom 215 XXXOOO
KathyR. Thank you for this. Wish all horses had this kind of treatment from their owners. They certainly all deserve it.
Moose, you don’t even have to race to have good food, a nice barn, and loyal fans.
I know it’s a lousy week – about to make it a bit worse. Could we please have prayers for a 26 year old jockey, Carly-Mae Pye who is in an induced coma in Rockhampton, Queensland. Carly-Mae was thrown from her horse, who shattered both its front legs in a barrier trial on Monday. She had stopped breathing at the track, and is still listed as critical.
Dear Kathy R.,
Sending prayers for Carly-Mae that she will recover completely and soon. Condolences to the connections of the fatally injured horse. RIP dear one
While it’s very upsetting to see the injury to young Carly-Mae, there is no mention of the name of the horse. I find that equally upsetting. Hugs KathyR
KathyR
I know I’m crazy, but want to know the name of the horse. Just went on the prowl to the Rockhampton Jockey Club site and found the details of the jump-outs. The sad thing is that only three were the possible ride for Carly-Mae – all fillies, and all so young and new they were unnamed. Well, we in the Zenyatta family love and respect them. Hugs KathyR

Our wonderful Dan. So sorry to hear about your injury. Just so so thankful Charlie noticed the swelling. I know Mr Fink and The whole Dan Team will do what is best for him. No doubt about that. Many prayers for Dan and all horses to heal and be safe.
Oh gosh, and our dear Jazil. Rest in Peace beautiful boy.
I was thinking today yeah I have to go back to Kentucky was thinking about it this morning. Yes got to do the breeders cup next year. I haven’t been in a number of years and I miss all the horses. You just realize how short life is and what is important to you.
Yeah, I want to really see Wise Dan. Haven’t seen him in person. Maybe even if he doesn’t race next year. So hope they would let us see him. Have so many others I want to go see too. My brother mentioned this morning wanting to go to the breeders cup next year so maybe I will make it too.
Have some favorite boys that are two. Night Prowler, Love Ya so much. Be so careful Friday.. I’m going to be sitting on pins and needles untill I know your safe.

Dear Judy, Praying so hard for Dubai. Oh gosh so many prayers. So hope he gets better. Power Up All
Dear Ann in NC,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! Sure hope you had a good day and that you will enjoy many, many more wonderful years to come. All the best to your dear Comet, also. Pray that she will improve soon. Sending ear massages and tummy rubs to the dear doggie.
Take care!
Lots of Hugs and Love
Okay, another equipment question. I have noticed after a race when getting ready to take the winner into the winners circle the handlers remove a strap of some sort from around the horse’s belly. What does this strap do? The saddle stays on so evidently isn’t needed for that. I need to stop noticing stuff cause then it drives me crazy wondering what it does. Thanks to anyone with the info.
Don’t know if this is correct for racing in the USA or Canada, but Downunder that strap holds the weight for the horse. I’ve discovered that if you have any questions, no matter how crazy they seem, just ask either a strapper (or groom) or even a trainer. Racing people alway like a chat! Cheers KathyR.
Wow, Kathy! That totally makes sense! Now that I think back on it I actually thought they had saddlebags or something for the weights. Now that I said it out loud that sounds pretty dumb. lol Thank you!
pamhomeier
Okay. More crazy. Does each racetrack furnish the weights and strap or does the trainer have their own? I’m kinda assuming the trainer probably has the strap. And does someone from the track put the weights on each horse?
I believe the track (and I’m talking Downunder again) furnishes the weights. The trainers go to the stewards room here, collect the weights and the saddlecloth number and it’s the responsibility of the trainer to make sure all the correct gear is on the horse before it goes onto the track. Here trainers can get fined if they go out with incorrect gear, or if there is a problem with the gear, like the saddle slipping, before, or during a race. I used to think the weights were in the saddle, but since the saddle is almost like another piece of cloth, don’t think there would be enough room. I’ll check and make sure I’ve not given you a wrong steer on that one. Cheers, KathyR.
KathyR thank you so much for your info! I absolutely learn so much about horses and racing from this blog. Thank you Zenyatta family for providing the opportunity! I find it amazing to live in the middle of Kansas and have friends in California, Kentucky and New York, Wales, England and Australia and everywhere in between to talk to and listen to their wisdom every day. Wow. Its wonderful!
KathyR
Goodnight to you and your beautiful Thurzel.
I am so thrilled for her to have you as a Mom and very excited about your future together. Nothing is more powerful than love and she has that now in spades.
Praying for Dubai,Dan, and all the injured horses and for Karly-Mae.

Dear Kathy R.Prayers for Carly Mae.It sometimes happens over here during jumps season.I’m afraid I always want to know the name of the horse 1st!!!I’ll put a good word in to Moose about your “little girl”he loves the ladies!Hugs Sheena
Dear KathyR.Just heard the very sad news about Carly Mae’s passing. So young it’s a dangerous game for both man/woman and beast. My sympathy to you all.RIP.Hugs Sheena
Just came back from attending the Annual General Meeting of the local racetrack here in Canberra: we were told of Carly-Mae’s passing there. It certainly didn’t sound good. Feel very sad for her partner who was the primary trainer of the horse. As you say, it’s a dangerous game – only sport where an ambulance is compulsory before any action can take place.
Thanks for giving Moose the word – you can tell him what a sweetie my little girl is! We’ve had a late winter blast of weather here today, so am really, really pleased I got the waterproof coat on my little girl. Will go to see her tomorrow, with General, after the weekly shop. Mustn’t forget the treats! Hugs, KathyR
RIP Carly Mae
Such a tragic loss of a beautiful young woman. I always have to remind myself that the jockeys know they live in constant danger being in a sport they love. I admire them a great deal.
It is peculiar how important something can be at one time and how totally unimportant at another. As we grow, our interests grow. We lose sight of situations we thought to be footed in concrete. Lovely or unlovely, nothing stays the same. It cannot. It grows into something newer and better, or it gives way where it is. Life is a living, moving force at every moment. We would not have that change-but to live happily, we must change. We cannot allow ourselves to crystallize until we are inflexible. There is too much to shatter us if we cannot bend. To enjoy the present moment is to have the innate knowledge that the next one and the next can be even better.
My forefathers were warriors. Their son is a warrior. From them I take my existence, from my tribe I take nothing. I am the maker of my own fortune.
Tecumseh
Yet more sad news,Encke well known for denying Camelot the Triple Crown in 2012 has been euthanized after an accident on the gallops this morning.Unfortunately, this horse will be always remembered for being involved in his Trainer’s steroid scandal.Al Zarooni trained him for Sheikh Mohammed at the time.He was with Charlie Appleby now.RIP.Hugs Sheena.
Encke was as much an innocent victim in this episode as Estimate was in hers. He should be remembered like others as a good horse, who did his best.
In addition to losing the English St. Leger to Encke and not placing in the Arc, Camelot never won another grade 1 race after the Irish Derby. Al Kazeem, the pride of Wales, also outran him in the Gold Cup.
Thank you all for the lovely birthday wishes. Your wishes combined with our gorgeous day, yummy food and family made for a fun day.
Huey and Reily- Comet appreciates the wags and wiggles! She wore the party hat and chowed down a bag of hushpuppies. Thanks to all for the prayers!
Sheena- singing time came and Miss Kitty ran for cover. Maybe the flaming cake scared her, too. More like a Flaming Baked Alaska…too many candles.
Wise Dan- Get Well Chestnut Champ! Thank goodness, Charlie L keeps and knows how to use a fine-toothed comb.
Max- Moose and Goose are busy teaching the young cows how to strut for the State Fair.
So far, Clementine Cow looks promising to receive a ribbon! Annabelle will receive her dismissal from the group today…..attitude problems.
TINY T- Work that coat, girl! Super model style!
Power Up, Dubai. Prayers coming your way! Brave Boy.
Luv ya, Zenny!

Dear Kathy.Hope you had a lovely day off.At last Fubu is back,Kimberly has been so tired he’s doing purdy good eating!I am sure she’s got run down worrying about him!Dolly has been posting too it’s very hot there and I read in our papers we are due a warmer spell towards the weekend very grey today though.Marty had a great celebration yesterday in New York!!!I’m sure he forgot it was a Monday. What a cute little statue and all the way from England!
Mango is doing well with her fund collected nearly $400 already!I must say I don’t really know how I felt seeing Joey’s videos of him playing in the studio.Still can’t seem to accept he’s gone!He used to own the place and have such fun.One of Zoe’s friend’s mummy is having a spinal test today, sounds very painful.Did you see that beautiful pic of the horse? It was magnificent.Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
It was great being off yesterday. Back to the grindstone today. Sure feels like Monday! lol Hope Kimberly is better. Fubu is eating his dry food along with kitty gravy. That’s pretty good! Haven’t checked on Dolly in a while. That’s good that she’s back again. You have some nice weather to look forward to this weekend. It will get you through the grey! I don’t think there has ever been a ticker tape parade for a rat. Marty is making history, I think. I loved the little statue. Marty would have stopped off for it while he was flying around in space. Mango’s charity fund is doing so well. What a great endeavor! I know what you mean about watching Joey playing. It was definitely bittersweet. We lost him so suddenly. It’s very hard to come to terms with it. Praying Zoe’s friend’s mom gets through the spinal test okay. It would be VERY painful. Yes, I saw the pic of the horse. It was magnificent, indeed. Have a good Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

KathyR
Dear pamhomeier:
Don’t know if this is correct for racing in the USA or Canada, but Downunder that strap holds the weight for the horse. I’ve discovered that if you have any questions, no matter how crazy they seem, just ask either a strapper (or groom) or even a trainer. Racing people alway like a chat! Cheers KathyR.
pamhomeier
KathyR
Dear pamhomeier

Dear KathyR.Just heard the very sad news about Carly Mae’s passing. So young it’s a dangerous game for both man/woman and beast. My sympathy to you all.RIP.Hugs Sheena

Dear Sheena

So sad, RIP.

So sad for both Carly-Mae and her horse. RIP to both.

RIP Encke

Max
Ann NC. Thanks for the update on my favorite bovines. Moose and Goose, tell em all how it’s done. Guess that Annabelle is a bad girl? Gotta love her.

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
It was great being off yesterday. Kathy.
