Team Z is pleased to announce the first ever Zenyatta.com Celebration!
On Saturday Nov. 2, we will hold a special online-only event in honor of Zenyatta’s fans and her legacy. The event will go live on a special section of Zenyatta.com that morning, and everyone is invited.
There will be a celebration discussion, a live feed of fan photos, and the opportunity to bid on exclusive items in an online auction benefitting racing-related charities.
The auction will include items such as a limited edition mug, signed prints and memorabilia, and an invitation to meet Zenyatta at Lane’s End. We will release a detailed description of all auction items in advance of the event.
We hope the Zenyatta.com Celebration will be the perfect compliment to Breeders’ Cup weekend for Zenyatta fans all over the world. We can’t wait to see you there!

Bravo to “our John” who had a second (Cool Samurai) and a WIN today at Belmont (Stanwyck). Great way to wind up the Belmont meet. Congrats to the horses, too, of course and the Mosses (owners of both horses). Stanwyck is now a Graded Stakes winner – bet her price just went up at the Keeneland sale.
Max
I’m thrilled to hear this news about Stanwyck. As I recall, Uncle Johnny was riding another horse in that race. Good going, Stanwyck. Shirlee will be pleased.

Pals Mike Smith and Gary Stevens saddle up for Breeders’ Cup
Veteran jockeys, close friends for many years, are looking forward to competing against each other at Santa Anita next weekend. Both believe they are riding potential winners.
By BILL DWYRE Los Angeles Times October 26, 2013
Most people think next weekend’s horse racing extravaganza at Santa Anita is the Breeders’ Cup. It’s actually the Mike and Gary Show.
They are Mike Smith and Gary Stevens, the Peyton Manning and Tom Brady of their sport. They are long in experience and tooth, star jockeys who have been around … and around … and around.
Each has won more than 5,000 races and millions of dollars in racing purses. Each has won each Triple Crown race at least once, Stevens three times each. Stevens has won eight Breeders’ Cup races, Smith has the record with 17.
Each has been inducted into racing’s Hall of Fame, Stevens in 1997 and Smith in 2003.
But the most startling numbers? Stevens is 50, Smith 48. Santa Anita’s daily reporter, Ed Golden, calls them the Geritol Jocks.

BGG, Thank you for sharing this article. Both men are excellent examples of what jockeys and men should be. I love Mike, but during the Classic, you know who I will be pulling for. Just hope both and all the other riders have safe trips.

Thanks for that, BGG! What a great article, with a lot of Zenyatta in there, too. And I laughed at Gary’s quote from his son, on jockeys: “Those guys are crazy. It is like riding a motorcycle with a brain.”

Thanks BGG

Be quiet and refuse to talk about your trouble. Stop and be grateful-just say how grateful you are and there will be more for which to be grateful.
We were given the ability to count our blessings or good fortunes, but instead we count all the wrong things. Sure, there are experiences in life that aren’t the best, but we are not supposed to give them glory. Bad experiences, hurts, and all the feelings that go with them will diminish us if we let them. When we keep telling everyone about them, we leave no room for happiness or contentment. If all the space is taken up with what is wrong, how can we grow and become good? How can we see beauty? How can we see anything to love?
Stop thinking about trouble. Start giving thanks and rest easily knowing that any pain you have is being dissolved.

@Sheena. Just saw on international weather bulletin that UK is bracing for severe storms and possible widespread flooding, as you said earlier. Must be serious as we do not often hear this news in the ROTW. Will be worried about you until it’s over. Batten down the hatches and stay inside if you can. Hovis will be under deep cover for sure. Same for Moosie.

Joshua Tree, son of Montjeu, with Ryan Moore riding just won the $ 1 million Canadian International for the third time at Woodbine. He’s trained by Ed Dunlop. He ran on lasix as did all of the Euro horses. Ramsay horse, Hyper, was second.
This was also the 40th anniversary of Big Red’s first and last race on turf when he won this race at Woodbine in record breaking time. Apparently he travelled to Canada for his last race because Christopher Chennery had been close friends with EP Taylor, Northern Dancer’s owner.
carol in arkansas
That makes sense….but I heard that the trip to Canada was because of Laurin and Turcotte….just a rumor….so they could win with Sec at their home…
Max
Eddie Maple rode Big Red in that race, not Turcotte, who was suspended. Tend to think the Chennery-Taylor friendship was the determining factor as EP Taylor was head of the Jockey Club which brought Big Red to Woodbine and was a confidante of Penny Chenery. Secretariat’s appearance was designed to put Canadian racing and Woodbine on international display, which it certainly did as Red as usual attracted celebrities and a huge media interest. Big Red was incredibly brilliant in that race, although he had never run on turf before then.
carol in arkansas
I think you are most probably right….I did remember about Maple…wish I could remember where I read/ heard the other version
Max
carol. Your version makes sense too as both Turcotte and Lauren are Canadian born.
When you watch him run at Woodbine on turf, it brings home again just how brilliant Red was. The race conditions were not great as it was cold and raining and the turf was yielding. It did not matter to that horse. He just went out and set a track record. Awe inspiring.
Terry Crow
Was there ever a rider with more pressure on him than Maple in that race?

Dear Max and BGG It must be bad if you’ve heard about our weather in the ROTW so far it’s just raining in west wales . Dave’s in charge of the emergency so we should be ok!!No doubt we’ll hear about it from Hovis on Friday. Luckily I don’t have to go out tomorrow our clocks went back an hour last night so with all the cloud and rain it was dark at 5pm. Congratulations to Joshua Tree and Ed Dunlop fantastic win also Tannery , daughter of Dylan Thomas won the EPTaylor stakes. Hope we all stay safe in the UK tonight Hugs SheenaX
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Sheena, I heard about the U.K. weather from friends in Colchester, who said “a buffet of Weather today: A banquet laid out with gales, sharp gusts of rain, deep blue skies, heavy, dark clouds and freshly washed sunshine.” Hopefully you’ll stay dry. Our clocks go back next weekend.
Max
Sheena. Tannery came from dead last like Z to win that race. She’s trained in the US now and races out of New York.
I heard that Joshua Tree took a long route to Woodbine. They vanned him from England to the Netherlands and then he flew to Toronto. He must love flying and Woodbine because he had lost six races since his win at Woodbine last year. He looked mighty good today with Ryan Moore. Frankie Dettori rode with him last year.
I can now get some sleep knowing that Dave’s got things under control with Nick as second. Stay safe and let us know how you are doing.

@Terry Crow – Thanks for your comment about the Kentucky football game. We have come close so many times this year. In past years we would have given up and got beat by 30 points. I really like our new coach. We just need a more consistent quarterback.
shirleeinindy
Debbie, if we played in any other conference but the SEC, we would have a much better record. It is tough to play and recruit against those power houses. Think this new coach can have some success later on. Takes a while to build a team.
When is Midnight Madness?
Terry Crow
Kentucky should do like Notre Dame does, play in one conference for basketball and another for football. In the case if football, how about the Ivy League?

Dear Max Thanks for the replay. Good win for JT, Ed seems to specialise in horses that travel well. Already some damage along the south coast of England trees down etc, is pouring here now.Hovis is going to have a very wet morning,no stressage for him today(it’s gone midnight)!Goodnight hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. JT will probably stay in his cozy stall at Woodbine for a few days until that storm runs its course. Dunlop’s assistant said that the horse loves Woodbine. I wonder what it is about that race course because Wise Dan likes it there too, maybe the wide turns and long backstretch? It’s the most like a European turf track in North America.
You stay inside until the storm goes. No fun. Thank heavens that Dave will handle everything from Number 10.

Dear Max and Z family Your prayers worked for us in Carmarthen, the sun is out and we escaped the worst of the storm seems the South Coast got hit badly ,wind speeds of nearly 100mph on the Isle of Wight.2 people have been killed and a young boy drowned. Vicki B mentioned Colchester think power lines are down there. I slept well, with Dave in charge!!!Not a word from Nick! Prayers for all those affected hugs SheenaX

Sheena. Saw video of storm on the coast. Very rough weather with hurricane level winds. The only good hurricane is the Fly. Glad to hear that you are okay. Hope the same for Hovis and all. Stay inside while Dave handles everything.

We are human, and human beings tend to judge by how they feel. But our feelings are not reliable. Feelings ebb and flow-they are not steady. Observe your feelings for a while, and see how they move back and forth: they flow this way with good news, and that way with bad. We know how easily bad feelings can trap us in self-pity. Forlorn and wretched, we feel abandoned, blue. The blues come from mismanaged emotions-relying on everything negative rather than being of good courage. Manage your emotions by focusing on the positive-and your life will run much more smoothly.
Every spirit wants to look his very best when he goes to meet the Great Spirit.
