Happy Thursday!
Back in June, while on our way to Lane’s End, we stopped at Belmont to see Cozmic One. Coz, Zenyatta’s 2012 colt, is now in training with John Shirreffs. So far, we’ve followed Coz from yearling prep at Lane’s End and breaking at Mayberry Farm in Florida to his arrival and training at Belmont. (If you’ve missed anything, you can read it all here.) Today you’ll meet Omar Velez, who walks us through a typical day for the two year-old colt.
Since this video was filmed, Shirreffs has moved his barn and crew up to Saratoga. Watch the video below and then scroll down for photos. At the end of the post, you will see a glimpse into Cozmic One’s new life in Saratoga.
Enjoy!

Catching up on the other news. Congrats to Mr. Sherman, you are one in a million.
Congrats and good luck MMM, you will always have a special place in my “heart”. And congrats to Kathy for such a job well done with MMM.

Coz is quite the frisky boy. I guess the biting is …he is bored and wants to get to work. Let’s hope we see that friskiness on the track one day. It is great to see him with John. John was wonderful with Zenyatta. Thank you Team Z for sharing all this with us fans. It is wonderful to hear anything about Z and her offspring….and the team.

Katie’s Garden is a half-sister to Bollywood, the two year Bernardini colt the Moss’ bred the same year as Coz. He finished 7th in his racing debut last week. He was sold for $200,000 as a yearling and for $700,000 at 2.
He and Katie’s Garden are out of grade I winner Tarlow, a debut winner at 2, who earned $439,740 overall. Tarlow has produced 2 winners from 2 to run. She is a full sister to one winner, and a half sister to 2 winners. Tarlow’s dam is stakes winner Madam Bear, who earned $263,631.

Dear Especially Horses:
Bollywood at a work at Delmar on 7/16/14:
7/16/2014 All Weather Track 3F 37.00 Handily 11/26
Especially Horses / So Cal
His race was on July 19 at Del Mar, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, Five Furlongs, $75,000 Purse.
Race Footnotes: Bollywood allowed to settle outside then alongside a rival, came three wide into the stretch and did not rally.
I know his new connections think highly of him (they must have for $700,000, ha-ha). I am sure he learned a lot from this first race and will show marked improvement next time out.

Dear Especially Horses:
Didn’t realize he had raced on the 19th. I’m sure he’ll do better next time. Love and Hugs, JB

Coz looks great. thanks for keeping us up to date.

Who is that 2 year old colt we are so happy to see? Is that Zenyatta and Bernardini’s first born son? Sure enough is! He is growing from month to month it seems and looking so good. How fortunate we are to have a window into the lives of Zenyatta and her foals. Love the video and the photos and I will watch and look at them many, many times.
Again my thanks to Team Z and Omar for letting us in on a day with Coz.
Love and hugs to all,
Maryp

Well said, Maryp. Sure am glad they don’t charge us for each time we look at these boys and the pretty girl.
Coz still has the Roberto ears!

From what they said on Bloodhorse.com this was a freak accident. He bolted, ran into the fence and fell. So sad.
RIP Dance with Fate.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
This is so sad and makes you realize, yet again, how fragile these majestic creatures really are. Condolences to all his connections. RIP Dance with Fate. Wish your fate had been better.
Ann NC
So sad.
RIP, Champ.

This is such sad and horrible news. What a tragedy over a freak accident. I followed Dance with Fate and I am so sorry he is gone.
RIP Dance with Fate. Your life ended way too soon.

I read on Twitter that jockey Rafael Bejaro came to pay his last respects to Dance With Fate and spent the morning with Peter Eurton and the colt’s caregivers yesterday. What a kind, caring and loving thing for Rafy to do. Such a wonderful colt. I will carry him in my heart forever.

Dance With Fate’s connections must be devastated. So unexpected and sad. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear BGG,
I heard this sad news yesterday on TVG. Everyone was very distressed about this. Apparently there was too much ligament damage around that patella. What a cruel turn of events. Condolences to all his connections. Dance with Fate your dance must continue now beyond the curtain at the Rainbow Bridge. RIP DWF, beautiful angel

Dear Team Z and Lanes End:
Thank you so much for this update on COZ. He looks bigger than he did in his last video. What a knockout looking boy he is. I love the way he moves. Thank you for all the wonderful photos and the video. Love and Hugs, JB

I can’t tell how much it means to see Zenyatta’s kids.
Coz has her look. If he starts to dance then we know he’s a winner. Great going.

♥ Wonder-full post! This is such an exciting journey, following Zenyatta’s first-born as he ventures into the realm once ruled by his incomparable Queen Mother! Thank you so much for bringing us along for the ride, Team Z!
And a huge congratulations to John and all of his team for their first win at Saratoga this afternoon! It is very fitting that Ann and Jerry Moss are the happy owners! Good job, Katie’s Garden! ♥

Coz is every inch the magnificient colt I thought he would be. Kudoos to the entirety of Team Z who continue giving us glimpses of his life. The video is great.
Linda Fabiszak
The stud in him is emerging. Love the way he moves… thanks so much for sharing this with his fans! He’s in my Virtual Stable already. :-)
vicky
What a brat! But I think the brattier they are, they spunkier they are, when it comes to actually racing.
Roxanne Cook
Coz is certainly getting better looking as he matures … don’t know if he has Zenyatta’s look … that top picture … the look in his eye makes me believe he’s thinking evil thoughts (like how quick he can cowkick his groom). LOVE the photo with his exercise rider … worthy of a screen saver. Thank you again for sharing and posting such Coz’s story so far.
shirleeinindy
Roxanne, I think he would love to take a bite out of anybody he could get to other than Ann. Looks like he knows who loves him.
Joy H.
Where’s his ball he used to have? Did he leave that at Mayberry Training Center?
Looks like he could use a spot of grass to graze on like his Mama used to do.
I wonder if Bernardini used to bite. I saw that Bernardini used to bite his lead/chain,
and he’s doing the same thing.
sue and tony
What precious pictures and video of the first Prince, our Coz! It’s such a treat to visit here and find a new blog and photos. We still believe Ann has a special way with Zenny and her family…Coz may snap at the guys but he sure loves taking a treat from Ann. Thank you, Team Z, for this latest view into the lives of our favorite equine family.

Coz is beautiful! He looked happy to get out on the track. Watching him gallop around the track gave me the chills. I hope he loves to race as much as his mom did.
I enjoyed the vid and all the pics! Thanks to the Moss’, John and Team Z for continuing to share Zenyatta and her offspring with all of us! It is a joy to follow Zenyatta and her family!
Hugs to all,

I think Coz favors his father Bernardini in many areas except one: his EARS! Those bunny ears are definitely Zenyatta’s contribution to this boy’s makeup!

Thank you so much for the video and pictures of Coz. He is growing into quite the stud. I see both Zenny and Bernie in him, and it seems like he’s not only filled out some, but he has also grown taller too. I’ve also noticed that he’s training with Zardana’s colt and a Moss homebred – both two-year olds. I know that some trainers have their younger horses work out with an older horse – will this be the case when Coz advances in his training and starts having official works?
Congratulations to Katie’s Garden on her win today – I just love her name!!
My condolences to the connections of both Dance With Fate (gone too soon) and See More Business. RIP beautiful ones.
Ebby worked out on the turf today, perhaps a change in surface will work out for her. Perhaps she’ll take after her mother’s side of her pedigree.
Linda in NJ
Wow he is beautiful. Thank you so much for this update. I was up in Saratoga this past weekend. I got to say hello to John as he past by with Battle Force. It would have been awesome to have gotten a glimpse of Coz. I know Coz is still in training but I wonder if John will enter him in a race at Saratoga. That would be something.
Thanks again for the pictures and video.

Hi!
Beautiful video!
Love to watch them.
Coz is dark like his mother but he changes color when he is out
in the sun.
Why is that?
I am so eager to watch him race.
Is he as tall as his mother?
Thank you!
