Second annual Zenyatta Celebration to welcome fans at the 2012 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
Special Zenyatta seating section also available during Championships
ARCADIA, Calif. (Aug. 1, 2012) – Breeders’ Cup Ltd., along with Zenyatta owners Jerry and Ann Moss, announced today plans for the second annual Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta After-Party Celebration, to be held Championship Friday, Nov. 2, at Santa Anita Park’s Frontrunner restaurant. This year’s official event will be an exclusive evening full of Zenyatta fun following Friday’s race card and will benefit several equine and racing-related charities, including the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and The Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses (CANTER).
The Zenyatta After-Party Celebration will be from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., providing racegoers a relaxing environment to toast the day’s winners, celebrate the past and present of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, while enjoying a twilight, panoramic view of the historic racecourse from Frontrunner. Amenities include a California buffet and cash bar featuring cocktails, race replays from Friday’s Breeders’ Cup program, entertainment, and a chance to meet Zenyatta’s connections and other racing celebrities.
Scheduled appearance and autograph signing at the event will be with trainer John Shirreffs, Dottie Shirreffs, racing manager for the Moss Racing Stable and the voice of the Zenyatta Diary, and jockey Mike Smith. Smith will bring along some of his fellow jockeys and other racing celebrities to mingle with partygoers. The After-Party Celebration will also feature the auction of Zenyatta memorabilia, artwork and an all-expense-paid trip to see Zenyatta and her growing colt at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, Ky.
After-Party Celebration tickets are $50 for admission only, or $95 for admission combined with the buffet. Tickets are available for sale today on a first-come basis at the Zenyatta Shop.
As an added benefit for “The Queen’s” most loyal fans, Premier Grandstand seating in the designated Zenyatta Section during the Breeders’ Cup World Championships is now available online at http://www.breederscup.com/tickets/grandstand-reserved or by calling 877-TIX4CUP (877-849-4287). Tickets are $150 for Friday and $200 for Saturday. Included with the special section tickets is a complimentary Autumn season Clubhouse pass to Santa Anita Park, as well as a unique Zenyatta souvenir.
“We are thrilled that the Zenyatta Celebration will once again be a highlight at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships,” said Jerry and Ann Moss. “Santa Anita Park holds many special memories for us as the site of some of Zenyatta’s finest racing accomplishments.”
“Santa Anita Park has rolled out the red carpet for international race-goers and especially Zenyatta fans as they prepare for another Breeders’ Cup World Championship,” said Robert Elliston, Breeders’ Cup Chief Operating Officer. “The Zenyatta After-Party Celebration will be a fabulous way to honor one of Breeders’ Cup’s most popular stars and also raise funds for industry-related causes.”
Throughout her extraordinary racing career, Zenyatta thrilled racing fans with jaw-dropping victories and heart-pounding finishes. However, it was her memorable Breeders’ Cup performances, including her victories in the 2008 Ladies’ Classic, the 2009 Classic and her incredible finish at Churchill Downs in the 2010 Classic, that sealed her stardom and ignited a fan frenzy that has transcended the sport and endeared this stunning mare to millions.

Love hearing about the celebration BUT was dissappointed because I thought you were going to announce 12Z’s official name…When oh when will we have a name???
Kate
Yea, that’s what I thought too. I can’t wait to hear what it is, it’s killing me!
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
It won’t be until he is a two year old in training
So another focus would be helpful
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Thanks so much to the Mosses and Team Zenyatta, Lanes End and Barn 55.
You are all the best there ever is and has been.
Trisha-VA
We made it to her first party but doesn’t look like we will be able to swing this one. Keeping my fingers crossed tho! Would love to be in CA and meet all of you CA girls. Take plenty of pics and videos.
Zenyatta forever and aren’t the Moss’s the greatest ? Love them all.
Love hugs and kisses
Barbara Brayton
I am envious of all of you who are going to attend. Have a great time and report on all the goings on.
Emma
Wish I could make it! Hope ya’ll have a great time! I was hoping they would announce 12Z’s name! When will they?
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
When they have chosen one, which could be months or years. There is no requirement that a horse be named until it is ready to race. They might want to let him grow up a little and continue to develop his own personality before they name him. They will want the name to fit.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
The Mosses generally wait until they are two year olds in training to get a feel for
their temperment and racing ability.
Zenny was not named until the end of her 2 year old year at the Mayberry’s.
All owner’s are different and we need to give respect to The Mosses and their
“protocols”. They are the ones with the $$$$$
Max
They also come up with incredibly inspired names. It is well worth the wait for their decisions.
Trina Nagele in SoCal
Zenyatta arrived at the Mayberrys’ in the fall of 2005 when she was about one and a half. She spent about six months with them and left for CA just as she turned two in April 2006.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
I remember during that time, The Mayberry’s called David and said they better have a great name for this filly. So they must have named her when she got to Barn 55 or close to that time.
Lisag In Texas
This is a wonderful event that Zenyatta is hosting! I wish it wasn’t only in CA. California is the place we ought to be. LOL I love you, Big Girl.
Madison
I also thought this would be the post of his name…but I guess not, Rachel Alexandra colt has a name “Jess’s Dream”…when will 12Z have a name? Also Rachel is in foal by Bernardini and going to have a Filly!
PatB from NM
I’m not thrilled w/ RA’s colt’s name, to put it mildly.
Lisag In Texas
I was hoping for His name as well, but almost sure this would not be the case. Ann & Jerry still have time to decide and I do not envy them on the decision…What do you name the First Born/First Born Son of the Queen of Racing? Nope, do not envy them, but I know it is going to be a great name fit for the Son of the Queen, a Prince in his own right. Lisag
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
They usually wait until their 2 year olds in training to name their horses.
So there is sometime, maybe we should focus on other things !!!!
Mary Copelin
Hooray!! This is absolutely wonderful news. I can hardly wait for November to arrive.
Will see all of you fellow Dumplings and other Z fans at the After-Party Celebration.

Sorry I have been MIA for a day;
Keta,
Thanks for that great Claibourn article.
Wonder if they have a gelding to train those weanling, I have heard Lure does “work with some of them” with his paddock mate.

Love Donut days at Del Mar; superb update !!
WHOOO HOOO !!!!!! MAX, Nobel Mission’s win and possible St. Leger appearance.
A gorgeous guy. Also, love the Frankel poem.
Thanks Barbara about the Vishla tip. Maybe she will appear again.
TC, great jokes, No sleeping pill and laxative or you may end up on the floor with a head injury and in a puddle !!!!
Yes, Shack’s best distance seems to be 7 furlongs or a mile; so will he have to run faster or what may be his issue at 6 furlongs????
Marion Ambler,
Thanks Kathleen
Horses have their own emotions, they are not related in any way or experienced in any way like human emotions. The comment you made is purely human and is not experienced by a horse.
Terry Crow GP
The general theory is that great horses can adapt to the distance they are attempting. I hope this is true. Shack is one of my favorites. The plain truth of the matter is, though, that horses do have problems with some distances. I am sure that Shack will give a good account of himself but will probably just be getting started when the race is over. The distance makes me feel as if this is a prep for a race down the road.
Max
Hoping for a Shack win. Great horse.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Oh yes,
Max too bad about Boyd and Otis. Sounds like that eventing course was a real challenge. Love the 20 year old was fit and fiesty, must be a TB !!!!

Here is Boyd Martin’s discussion of his horses pre olympic selection.
He brings the horses and the committee selects the one they think
will be the best to represent the US. Very interesting discussion.

Sing. Thanks for this. I like his attitude. He takes full responsibility for any mistakes and never blames Neville. He smiles whenever he speaks of the horses.

Here is Boyd Martin and Neville B fall in the tryouts !!!
He was not riding him forward enough !!!

Max
Sign. Poor Boyd. However, after Nev tossed him, Nev just kept right on going. What a horse!
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Max,
Really love the way Boyd says “Neville got
Some exercise” after the fall. All riders know
That their mistakes contribute a lot to affect the
Horse.

Really like Ron The Greek in the Whitney !!!
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/71701/ron-the-greek-heads-9-horse-whitney-field
Terry Crow GP
Ron The Greek has proven himself over several surfaces and distance is not a problem for him. I would expect him to give a good account of himself. My choice is Flat Out. Interesting that a horse named Fort Larned is in this race. I had a mosty pleasant afternoon there talking to the man who takes care of the place. It is in Kansas and is the epitome of a frontier type fort. He told me that the old TV show F Troop was based on a bunch of soldiers who used to be there.

Do not forget Lucarno in Europe and Americain in Australia ….L is retired
I just love all the Big D boys…
Max
Sign and carolinutah. Great article. Do not forget that another Dynaformer US son, Thought Worthy, is scheduled to run in the St. Leger. He is trained by John Gosden, who also trained Lucarno. Same American owner as well. The hooded Noble Mission may also be in that race, and the Queen’s horse, Estimate. The St. Leger is a mile and three quarters.

Wow Dynaformer has so many great “children”.
Just like A P Indy !!!

CALLING ALL Z’ISTERS: MARLENE DODGE HAS URGENT RESCUE IN PROGRESS
Our dear Marlene Dodge needs help rescuing 8 lovely horses from the feed lot in Fallon, NV. Six of these horses are wonderful, solid broke horses that any of us could just get on and enjoy; two are young ones at the beginning of their lives and could be someone’s great work-mate or special trail horse with training. Marlene needs to raise $5,000 by August 11 to keep these horses from going to slaughter in Canada. Please do what you can to help! Go to valleyviewranchequinerescue.ebs.com to see photos of the horses and donate to help Marlene rescue these dear souls.

I saw in the FAQ information that when all of the entries are final we will get emails. The information mentioned that by Thursday we should be getting entries and prior racing results for the horses. Maybe later today.

I just saw FRANKEL destroy his field in the Sussex what an amazing race, his fractions were 10 and change winning by six lengths.
Next stop YORK and the JUDDMONTE, hope my brother can go with my mum as he has the digital camera.
I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Donna:
Frankel is just amazing. Wow, your brother and your Mum are so lucky to be able to see him up close. Hugs, JB
Terry Crow GP
No knock against Frankel but I would still like to see him compete against something other than other than other british horses.
Max
TerryC. Frankel has scared off all of the competition. Ballydoyle for example withdrew all of their horses. Ballydoyle is not British. There is no horse in the US or elsewhere on turf or probably dirt who can stand against him at a mile. They are taking him past a mile to seek out some competitors. It will probably be the same result. This horse is just amazing like our Z.

@Trina-Another gem. @Diana S-I hope you had a great day. What an interesting life you have lead. It has all added up to the wonderful person we know today. Here are today’s redneck jokes. You might be a redneck if you can tell your age from the number of rings in your bathtub. You might be a redneck if you have a plunger in your outhouse. You might be a redneck if your wallpaper is insulation. You might be a redneck if you have ever made night crawler jerky. You might be a redneck if your favorite movie is Alabama Jones and the last Beer Run. You might be a redneck if your phone’s ring tone includes a jug blowing in the background.

Hey Terry GP:
No e-mail yet! And as dumb as I am I spoke to Justin at Fantasy capping! He said we will not see our names just the other players, it is for reporting inappropriate behavior on the site! So you are good! He said the e-mail will be here later on this afternoon! We are buddies now! HaHa! Don’t worry he said we will have plenty of time! So glad to part of the team! Thanks for inviting me!
Terry Crow GP
GS-Thank you. I hope you do well with your handicapping. I certainly won’t feel bad if you beat me overall.
GirlSaratoga
Terry GP:
Oh don’t worry I won’t beat you! I tend to bet with my heart and not my head! I also have a tendency to go for the long shots! (They need someone to root for them!) I also am a little partial to certain jockey’s! No worries with me, I am just hoping not to be kicked out for bad handicapping!
Let the games begin!
Good luck!

What I love about this video is Frankel’s celebration of his victory by doing dressage!
Maybe he knows the Olympics are underway.
Also, silks remind me of the Mosses. Pink jocky cap is easy to follow in race.

Yes, Silks are very close to the Moss’s colors. Frankel is just magnificent. Hugs, JB
Max
Keta. I also noticed that Frankel usually does that a little dressage after a race.
Interesting tidbit is that the organizers at Goodwood had laid down a red carpet for Frankel to walk on, but he would not go near it. It is like when Henry Cecil tried to move him to a better stall at home and he would not move. He was not interested in “millionaire’s row.” This horse is full of character, as is his brothers.

Thanks for the link to see Frankel in action! His is spectacular! It is really sad that his his name sake isn’t here to enjoy all his good fortune. Bobby Frankel would be proud! To have a horse like that and not be able to be a part of it is really sad. I always watched Bobby Frankel’s horses because I believed he was a good guy and great trainer, plus he was a New Yorker! A Saratoga guy! Nice to see his legacy live on in some way.
Thanks, GirlSaratoga

Frankel made it look so easy, he was just out for a hack. His dressage routine is priceless. Hope Sir Henry is doing O.K.
