Happy Monday!
Check out these new photos from Alys—we think they’re something special! We hope you’re all staying warm through this especially chilly weather. Zenyatta has the folks at Lane’s End watching out for her during the cold winter months, but that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy frolicking in a blizzard or two!
Enjoy!

Nothing like a cold, winter storm to make a gal feel frisky!! Horses love cold, snowy, windy weather! Makes them all a little kookaloo :)
Luckily for my Stella, she’s been having cool, sunny days here on the south coast of British Columbia.

When is her baby due?
Andrea Klassen
She’ll probably foal about mid to late April.
Lynn
IF she was bred on her foal heat and based very loosely on assuming some general time lines of when to breed etc. She COULD foal as early as March 6, based on the earliest time to deliver a term foal of 320 days. With an average foaling date of March 17 – April 6th or so. I have no insider information and have no clue as to when she was bred, so this is purely speculation and some fun on my part :)

Z13 was born on Zenyatta’s birthday, so the likelihood of her having a foal before that date in 2014 is unlikely, I would think. I’m sure someone will be able to recall when she was announced in foal on the 60th day after being bred, but I have forgotten. Zenyatta has foaled her last two foals almost to the day 340 days (average equine gestation) from her breed date. I’m guessing Z14 should be born around April 15-22. Hope someone comes up with her breed date, because that is the best date to use to judge when she will deliver, based on her first two. :-)

I created a topic on this in the forum., but I will post here as well.
I was curious about equine gestation length (horse pregnancy). And I found this nifty little calculator (http://duncity.net/horses/foalingcalc.htm) doing some research I discovered Zenny was confirmed to be 37 days in foal on June 14 2013 (source:http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/78892/zenyatta-confirmed-in-foal-to-war-front) there is 37 days between May 8, 2013 and June 14, 2013. Therefore Zenny was last bred May 8, 2013. (However mares are usually bred more than once for better chances of the mare catching. So she may have been bred prior to this date.) Now back to research; because on the calculator it asks, “how many days was the mare in foal before giving birth?” We have to know that information. So, she was confirmed to be 60 days in foal to Tapit on June 21, 2012 and 60 days from June 21st is April 22. So for her Tapit baby Zenny was probably bred April 22, 2012. So now we know she was bred April 22, 2012 and she delivered April 1, 2013. Therefore she delivered at 344 days. Which means that Zennys most likely foaling date this year is April 17, 2014. Using the foaling calculator I was also able to figure out that she is 260 days in foal (technically horses can deliver anywhere from 320 days to 362 days, and if you watch mare stare you know can occasionally go over a year in foal.) However, it is also possible for mares to foal at 300 days so I would say the countdown to Z14 should begin March 4, 2014.

Thank-you EriNC! That should enable us to conserve our “pacing” for the most propitious times, instead of wasting ourselves in meaningless insane exercise.

Not to mention saving wear and tear on the rugs Vicki :-)

I think I will go with my birthday, April 14. 4-14-14. How cool is that!?!

What lovely, lovely photos! It’s amazing how much horses love the snow and chilly weather. Zenyatta looks even more beautiful adorned in all those lacy snowflakes.
Enjoy the winter, sweet Queen!

Wow, I wish I could take to the white stuff as easily as Queen Z does. Just looking at that makes me cold ALL over again! Then again, we got another whisker this morning here in NY (more as to why I couldn’t transfer later) and I’m miserably cold.
Re: Not being able to transfer: I’m not upset about it because I have set myself on making this semester the absolute best that I can muster while being permanently frozen. LOL I am going to do like Z and take things in stride all while doing my best! It’s the only way to be successful in life, and it makes no sense to dwell and be bitter about this, so that’s what I’ve decided to do.
I miss writing with you all; this site was always one of my favorites. I have a new written piece dedicated to Z and her family in the works, and based on my proof readers’ comments, it’s a doozy of a work. I can’t wait to share it with you all!
Hope Coz and RedZ13 are enjoying themselves, and I can’t wait for a Cozzy update! That’s my baby! :-)
Pray for my golden boy Electric Eddie. He is going into surgery and I’m gutted that Fate has dealt him such a cruel blow, but I’m happy he’s alive. Let’s hope more for a safe recovery, as the Year of the Horse doesn’t have the best track record already in that respect.

Dear Pati:
I was not aware that your transfer did not go forward. Glad to know you have a very positive attitude about that. Looking forward to reading your new piece dedicated to Z. Love and Hugs, JB

Will say prayers for your Eddie. Hugs, JB

Dear Pati,
Will certainly keep Electric Eddie in my thoughts and prayers.
Power up, EE! May the surgery be successful and lead the way to smooth healing.
Lots of Hugs

Wow! An Apaloosa Zenyatta!!! Who would have thought!!!

CoZmic One is now technically a 2 year old, so we will be hearing news on him and his possible racing career just any time I would think. Just hope those frisky mares are careful in that slick snow. A friend of mine lost her Quarter horse mare 10 months in foal to snowy conditions when she fell and broke her left hock. Unfortunately the foal could not be saved either.

Looks like the girls are having fun!! They’re pretty smart when it comes to slick spots.Queen Z always looked like she just floated over the ground but being heavy in foal makes it a little different.

Wow, some awesome shots, Alys. Thanks for posting these. Only Zenyatta could be pregnant in a blizzard and handle it like a pro! You rock, Zenyatta!
Janie (in L.A.)
Pretty Zenyatta, frolicking in the snow. I’ve been worried about her when I hear the weather reports in her area – but I guess I don’t have to!
Sharyn
She is so beautiful – thanks for sharing these gorgeous pictures of all our girls in the snow!!

Thanks, Alys and Team Z for the great pictures! Looks like the girls are loving the crispy cold, time-to-kick-up-your-heels, weather! Too bad people can’t eat hay all day long and stay warm like the horses do! :)

What fun pictures!! Thanks so much for sharing them with us.
