Happy Monday!
Check out these new photos from Alys—we think they’re something special! We hope you’re all staying warm through this especially chilly weather. Zenyatta has the folks at Lane’s End watching out for her during the cold winter months, but that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy frolicking in a blizzard or two!
Enjoy!

Look at that beautiful baby belly!!! It’s been so cold and snowy here in Kentucky, but the horses love it! I was happy to see that Railtrip is now at Old Friends and I can’t wait to go visit. He’s probably getting adjusted to the change in weather and has grown a nice winter coat and probably has a “jacket” on as well. The winter Zenyatta came to Lane’s End, it was so cold her first night! I was at Keeneland to greet her and she danced and showed off her dapples and the entire time I’m thinking “I hope that California girl isn’t freezing”!
So good to see Zenyatta in these photographs. She’s just as beautiful and magical as ever. Thank you to the Moss family, Team Zenyatta, and Lane’s End for sharing her with us. We all love her so.
Much love,
Sandra

The Queen is simply majestic in the snow.

Our beautiful Zenny just takes everything as it comes…no worries, no problems she just “gets on with it”. My we humans could learn so much from her and how she has lived her life. It’s great seeing her play in the snow and her gal pals seem to be lovin it, too. Thanks, Alys, for more gorgeous photos. We know LE is very busy this time of year but getting new pics of our Queen is always appreciated.

It looks like our former California girl is enjoying life in Ky. where the change in seasons has so much to offer. Zenny seems to be having a ball. Good for her!

Such fun! I wonder who the other ladies are romping with Z.

What beautiful pictures. Do we know who Z’s companions are? LIS? Who else?
@Lisa–please give our condolences to your friend on the loss of her mare. So sad.
It freezes me to look at these, and I’m in Texas! Brrrr….

Great pics of that magnificent equine, she is a vision of beauty.

Hey everyone… I’ve not ever posted on here til now. Happy to greet you all!! I was one of the winners of the Visit with Zenyatta contest and am I ever happy that we made the trip down to Kentucky before all that snow moved in!! =) (Not that I should complain, I live in Minnesota.) If the mares are still the ones sharing Z’s paddock as then, they are Life is Sweet (who is a very sweet mare!), Dreams Galore, and I forgot the third mares name but she is an older mare. They sure look like they are having fun!! It was amazing seeing the bond between Zenyatta and Life is Sweet. They truly are best friends!

Lisa-Thanks for checking in. However, there are more than a few here who are envious of you. Like Wilbur said in Charlotte’s web, stay awhile. This is a nice place.

Hi Lisa… just love the pic of you with an ear pressed against Zenny’s side. Did you hear anything? What did your hubby think of her. She looks amazing as always.
Lisa Myers
That pic wasn’t me… however, she looked so grand and healthy! It was simply amazing. On that trip we also got to meet War Front at Claiborne. He is a magnificent creature!! The cross between he and Z will produce a spectacular looking foal. Can’t wait to see him or her. They told us sometime in April!!

Oh, you are the lady that Zenny has the sweetest look on her face as she stands before you! Sorry I got you confused with another photo. She seemed to love the attention she was getting from you…it was priceless.

Life Is Sweet is a champion in her own right.

Thanks for that info, Lisa, if you think of any more details, feel free to regale us. At least you got to go meet her. Aauugh, “jealous” doesn’t even begin to cover it! I am so thankful I got to see Zenny one time, from about 10 ft. away. I can still see that in my mind’s eye. Just incredible!

Hi Zenny, I am really surprised at how full of pep you are running in the Blizzard and enjoying it so much. There is more cold weather ahead and wishing you more fun in the snow. Sending you love and kisses and thinking of you always.

Only our beautiful Zenyatta can make a blizzard beautiful and look like fun.
Thank you Team Z. for these wonderful photos.
Why do some horses wear blankets and others do not?
Love and hugs to all.
Margaret
I think most of it comes from how thick the horses coat is. If the horse is relativity new to KY they might wear a blanket if they have a thin coat. Just like humans if they seem cold to the skin you bundle up going outside.
That said LE;s will also keep an eye on the mare to ensure that she isn’t too hot coming in under that blanket. It’s good for the mares to get out and exercise as it is for any pregnant woman. There are just some other things that they need to watch for.
Never fear LE’s is tops at all this care business. If you or I were hired on and knew next nothing about horses–we’d be shadowing for a long time.
Plus a “true” horseman/woman never quits learning. There is ALWAYS something new to learn about horses. Be it habits, care, riding, nutrition–you never quit learning.
Darlene Daniels
Thank you Margaret.
I am not at all worried about Lanes End care. I know they are the absolute best. Just wondered about the blankets. Z must have a good heavy natural coat, which I am glad to see. And, yes there is always something new to learn, which I love.
Margaret
On Z such fun you seem to be having! I’m thinking this will be your year off. I’m guessing for a 15-25 Apr baby this. More likely Apr 23. But hay so far I’ve been so off that its fun to just to guess to see how wrong I am!
Hope you continue to have fun with your gal pals and I’ll be watching for you!

Thank you Alys for the pictures. Queen Z certainly loves the snow. You can id her in each photo by her size.
Wonder if Little Red is out in the snow too. Bet he is as that makes them strong and tough. Or so I am told by horse people. Kinda like the limestone in the soil and water of Bluegrass Kentucky is supposed to be good for them. Sure made a tough old bird out of me!
Max
Great post. Stay tough and keep those JV alerts coming.

Thanks for the fascinating pictures. Being a Southwest (El Paso, TX) transplant to OK, I have worried about Zenny and the cold every time I see the weather. The comments from people who know so much about horse care helped me to stop worrying. I just love that gal.

Linda in NJ
Hi from NJ to Zenny and to all Zsters:
I am so glad that Zenny is enjoying this winter weather. For myself, I have had enough with the snow. I am absolutely frozen with this artic blast we are having .
I watched the CA Cup races this weekend and it was unbelievable to see the folks standing around the padlock in short sleeves. The rest of the country is frozen solid.
Anyway in all kidding aside, these photos are beautiful. They look like paintings. I hope they become available for purchase through the Zenyatta store.
Take care everyone.
Love and hugs to all.
Linda

Nobody knows more about cold weather than you folks in NJ, Linda. It has been in the 70s or higher for about a month here in SoCal.

Awesome photos! Thanks for sharing! I LOVE that Zenny’s peeps allow her to just “be a horse” sometimes! It must be nerve wracking at times to see her running and playing hard, knowing her value, but it’s so worth her soundness of mind! Thank you!!
P.S. She looks radiant in her late pregnancy! Fingers crossed for a healthy foal and safe delivery!

Dear Terry
Everytime I watch the old movie Lassie Come Home. (Even though I have seen it dozens of times. I cry again over and over again. His crossing that big river just always chokes me up. Watched it again this passed Thanksgiving and hear we go again more tears. Don’t you think I should know how that movie turns out. LO
Peggy (N) South Georgia
And, when that old couple takes him in and he has to leave. The old man says he’s on his way somewhere.
Oh no, not a dry eye for me.
Terry Crow
Peggy-For all those who do not think that Lassie Come Home is a great film, I beg to differ. One of the marks of a truly great film is that thew movie can be watched over and over and you never get tired of it. Two qualify for me in this category. Lassie Come Home and Let it Ride.
