Happy Tuesday!

Cozmic One has been away at school in sunny Ocala for two and a half weeks now. He and his jolly ball are settled in to a stall with an opening so he can see and say “hi” to fellow students. On October 8, he started learning lessons like wearing a saddle, working on a lunge line, and adjusting to a rider. We’ll keep you updated about his progress.

Enjoy!

@Barbra Wood-Baylor look like the real thing. Caught their game last week on TV. Of course, they were playing Iowa State. Debbie-Good news for Kentucky U. They didn’t lose this last Saturday. This might be old news to some of you, but I have learned from a sportswriter friend of mine that the BC is returning to Santa Anita next year.

Sheena. You’re right. If The Queen Mother was okay with the way things were on that estate, that should be good enough for anyone. These country pathways are quintessentially British. You don’t need foreigners messing about with your way of life. Power up bumpkins.

Just a what-if circumstance. What do you think the Mosses would do if CoZ turned into a naughty boy? Would you geld him for maybe racing ability or not for possible breeding? What would the Z’sters do? A friend who actually likes horse racing asked me about that. Thought that was an interesting question. Zenny babies are extremely valuable! I think I would maybe just put up with his antics and hope for the best! Course that will NEVER happen!

I don’t think we’ll ever have to worry about that senerio. I believe Zenny taught him good manners and he’ll be a perfect gentleman …except on the track when he’ll be a warrior like his mom. :-)

These are good points but from all reports Coz is not a bad actor. If he was, a choice would have to be made between breeding and racing.

TC. Sometimes the choice is made to let the horse be the horse no matter how cranky. Examples are Big D and Hastings. We all know Big D. Hastings had a very mean temperament and used to bite other horses at races, but he won the Belmont, and went on to sire Fair Play, father to Man o’ War. Northern Dancer was a handful and his trainer recommended gelding after being on the receiving end of his teeth. The owner refused. Coz looks like a good boy, and he’s doing his lessons. No worries.

do not forget Halo who by all accounts was more than a handful…but when you have stellar genes…people work with you…this is a non-issue with Coz…he has always been co-operative albeit high-spirited…all in all he is perfect…just my opinion

@ Pam Homeier, not a chance our darling Prince CoZmic One would be a naughty boy, not a chance,! Its not even in his DNA make up. Look at his mom and his dad, both are level headed and never gave their trainers any problems. They did everything asked of them and more, Of cause, the Queen was not ready to be bothered at an early age but when she got good and ready, did she ever work so hard.!, So again, not a chance. Even if it were to be so, no Gelding for our dear one. One thing I can tell you though is that he will, with a capital W, be a great race horse with a capital R, in Jesus Holy name, Amen.

Good night and here is wishing you restful sleep. It is well.

This is a petition set up to declare Hollywood Park as an endangered place. It’s worth a try you guys; even if it doesn’t work and Hollywood Park gets torn down, we will know that we did not go down quietly. WE WENT DOWN KICKING AND SCREAMING! Then we can laugh at all those rich folks buying homes not even ten miles from LAX with all those lovely jumbo jets roaring over head at all hours.

I have been wondering about Rachel Alexandra’s Full Sister, (I read your post on the previous page about Rachel)
Her name is Samantha Nichole. She is a full sister to Rachel. Barbara Banke Bought her. Samantha, I believe had some sort of issue but Stonestreet wanted her. I believe she was in training in Florida previously. Sure would like to hear something more about her.

Someone said that if our capacity to acquire has outstripped our capacity to enjoy, we are on our way to the scrap heap. If that is true, it seems that many of us are headed for the scrap heap. Why is it we collect so many things-clothes, TVs, cars, toys for the kids and grandkids, and on and on? Are we so empty inside that we have to keep trying to fill ourselves up-but nothing works?
So how do we get things into balance? First, simply stop-stop buying, gathering, amassing. Most of us have plenty of stuff. Second, reflect on what you want and what you truly need. Third, consider sharing what you have with others. Fourth, take some quiet time each day. Go for a walk. Look out the window at your garden. Hold a kitten. Do something you really enjoy doing-and let yourself enjoy it fully. Finally, ask the Spirit to help you to truly enjoy life each moment of the day. Ask and you will receive.

You might as well expect rivers to run backwards as any many born free be contented penned up.

Kathy–this is such wonderful advice. and Biblical as well. We learned this from experience. When my mom was aging, we bought a big house to move her in with us and managed over the years to fill it up. When we downsized last year due to the economics of retirement, we could not imagine how much we had to let go. After all, it’s just “stuff” for the most part (apart from sentimental heirlooms, etc.)

However, we haven’t had a video of our little red prince since he was about a month old, running with his mother, and the last picture only showed his head behind people talking. Can you please give us some pictures, and a video of him? We appreciate all these things you do for us, but I just miss the little one!!!! Whenever a lot of us feel down, all we have to do, is look at pictures or videos of Zenyatta and her boys, and the world seems so much better. I saw the comments about Coz. He definitely has wonderful spirit. But don’t forget…there was a fabulous article about how Zenyatta was a handful when she was younger, and the only exercise rider who could work with her was Steve. Between Steve and our ever patient John, Zenyatta became the great champion that she is. Another trainer and rider would have missed all of that underneath her rough behavior. Eventually it was a love affair between Steve and Queen Z…and she is the epitome of grace and love…but early on, he described her as quite a hussy. Adorable. This zest for life and running fast lives in Coz too and he needs just the right trainer. May the match that the Mosses make be a fruitful one!

    Atlantic Jewel likely to retire
Posted by: AAP+ Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 22/10/2013
The injury that has cost Atlantic Jewel her chance in the Cox Plate means she has most likely run her last race.
While trainer Mark Kavanagh hasn’t ruled out a return to racing in the autumn, Atlantic Jewel’s owners have a selection of the world’s best stallions waiting to serve a mare who is also one of the world’s best.
Atlantic Jewel is a daughter of the outstanding sire Fastnet Rock who, like her, is owned by the Irish-based Coolmore Stud.
While the breeding season has virtually concluded in the southern hemisphere, Coolmore’s Michael Kirwan said one option for Atlantic Jewel would be to travel to Ireland and be served to northern hemisphere time early next year.
If that is the case her most likely mate would be Europe’s leading stallion, Galileo.

When planting herbs from the garden of a friend, Sir Francis Bacon said, “A perfect garden with herbs, when trod upon, gives the very air a delightful fragrance.” Kneeling to plant herbs, digging in the soft warm earth with our hands, feeling the warm sun on our backs-what small things these are, and yet they are not small at all. Such small things, simple things are often very important to our physical, spiritual, and mental well-being. we have no idea how healing comes seeping in through those times, those moments when we let go of worry, focus on small tasks, and simply eel thankful.

The voice of the Great Spirit is heard in the twittering of birds, the rippling of mighty waters, and the sweet breathing of the flowers.
