Happy Friday!
For nearly three weeks now, Cozmic One has been able to call John Shirreffs’ barn at Belmont home. He’s settling into a relaxed training schedule, where he is permitted to learn and grow at his own pace.
We welcomed him off the truck from Ocala, FL at the end of March and met up with John and the crew at Barn 41 again yesterday. We hope you can share in our experience through the photos and videos below.
Enjoy!
-Team Z
THE ARRIVAL: MAY 25, 2014
TRAINING: JUNE 12, 2014
Shirreffs has been documenting the process with his helmet cam, just as he did with Zenyatta. Below is one of his videos.

Oh my God in heaven, I’m in tears. Coz has always been my favorite.
I pray pray pray he he gets a good and loving groom who stays with him consistently and talks to him. I pray he doesn’t get fluoridated water. I am so happy he’s with John Shireffs but my greatest wish would be Billy Turner. I want a Triple Crown for Coz.
Thx, thx and ever thx to Team Z for this wonderful, exciting update. Lanes End and Mosses are the best. Love you all !!!
Love to the Queen and her firstborn, et al. Always thinkin’ about you sweetie, because your pic in my living room is always looking at me.

June 14 Cherokee Devotional
This is the age of questioning. Nothing can be accepted at face-value the way it once was. A man’s word has been broken so many times that we are convinced no one can be trusted. But such evidence is not always true. Emotions and unrestrained imagination makes us assume that certain people are not trustworthy. If we are going on hearsay we are in no position to judge. When enough time has passed we will know what is true. Until then it is wise to withhold opinions and refuse to believe the worst of anyone-even if something has given us reason to be suspicious. The loss is too great to a da du hi s to di, to accuse or make a charge against people, without knowing if it is true.
You have come here to buy this country of ours, and it would be well if you came…with the price in your hand.

Dear Carol in Ark,
LOL! I can identify with the “encroaching senility” that you mentioned! I think my brain cells are skipping town sometimes, too! But then I remind myself that the old cranial file cabinet is just getting more stuffed — it takes longer to retrieve the information.
Looks as though you have all the bases covered.
Love and Hugs
Marshall (NC Broad)
Oh yes, I forgot to say “Happy Flag Day” to all!!
Cheers for the Red, White and Blue — long may she wave.

What a wonderful treat to find this blog message this morning!!! Yesterday was busy so I didn’t get a chance to get back online to see it when it was posted – story of my life – a day late and a dollar short – lol!!! As always, the photos, videos and comments are so fabulous and I am so very grateful to all of Team Z for sharing all of this with us. What a treat it is to watch Zenyatta’s first son begin his career. Thank you.

Hi there Zen family, Zenny, Ziconic, Princess and COZ!
Wow — I was so overwhelmed when I saw this last night I couldn’t even think what to say.
But first and most importantly, THANK YOU THANK YOU TEAM Z for sharing Coz’s arrival to John’s barn so generously. And Kyle — FABULOUS photos!
I must say that for the first time I can see why Ann & Jerry keep saying that Coz is “so much like Zenny” ….. right down to the Zen-like pause and lifted head as he checks out his new digs. I think the reason I finally saw beyond the obvious physical characteristics had to do with the extended video. It kind of gave me an opportunity to “get to know Coz” as he is now.
He’s just a magnificent-looking individual — John wasn’t kidding when he said that Coz has “great bone and balance.” Bay thoroughbreds are still the most-prized of all colourings in Great Britain, where they see them as most characteristic of the breed itself. And I must say everything about Coz smacks “perfectly made.” He also appears to be relatively calm for a youngster — another prized characteristic in great runners. It was so interesting to hear from John what goes on as Coz begins to learn his “job.” And seeing Dottie was a real bonus! Loved the way she blew Coz kisses!!!
Must be off for now as I have an appointment, but wanted to add that my post on Royal Ascot 2014 is now up on THE VAULT. I concentrated on some of the horses of interest this year — and the American thoroughbred is certainly well represented!!! Just click on my name here and you will go to THE VAULT automatically.
Love and hugs to all and peppermint kisses to my Big Girl

You’re so welcome! Even without Frankel, St Nicholas Abbey & Black Caviar, Royal Ascot will be exciting!

Dear Kathy.I have been enjoying Trooping the Colour this morning,it was more cloudy and cooler in London better for the soldiers and horses.Love our ceremonies!
I am happy to say chick#2 is getting well fed today! There had been concerns but Glesni is an excellent mum, gorgeous pic of the “bobbleheads” having a cwtch (hug).
Loved the photos and videos of Coz beginning his new life!
Fubu had quite a good day yesterday took a selfie!Am worried about his weight loss even Nerissa weighs about 13lbs.Dolly is back she lost a friend a cat belonging to one of her mummy’s FB pals.I was sad to read about a collie called Lad who died I’m not sure what happened(some kind of abuse)said his last months were his happiest.I enjoyed Miss Kitty’s video she is so fluffy.Marty’s got to 6000 Yay!!Have a great day.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
It’s true no one does ceremonies better than the Brits. Makes us over here look like a bunch of hicks…except for Zenyatta and Team Z, of course! Glad to hear Chick #2 is getting more food. Coz is looking just wonderful. My heart overflows just knowing he is being looked after by John. I’m sure we’ll see great things from Coz. I was very relieved that Fubu was doing better. Sorry for Dolly’s loss, also the loss of Lad. Poor baby. How can monsters mistreat animals? Miss Kitty is one gorgeous girl. Hooray for Marty reaching 6000! Have a wonderful day and enjoy your entire weekend. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy
Max
Kathy. The trooping of the color is indeed a wonderful ceremony. It includes horses. Do you really think that US ceremonial occasions such as the inauguration of the President or state funerals like the one for President Kennedy makes Americans look like hicks in comparison to the Brits? I’ve always been really impressed by them and others. Nothing beats the 4th of July.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Max,
I agree we have great ceremonies too. Both countries do well in this department, especially when it’s military. hugs

The one that always gets to me is, Changing of The Guard at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier.

Dear Marshall:
You’re so welcome. Love BL’s work and she really is a wonderful person who loves horses as we do. Love and Hugs to you, Reilly and Huey. JB
Deb E.
John Shirreffs, you are a great trainer! I love how you allow your charges to develop at their own pace and don’t force them out onto the track before they’re both physically and mentally ready to race. I wish other trainers would follow your example. Coz looks magnificent! He is so handsome and obviously has inherited his gorgeous mother’s ability to “strike a pose” for the camera!
Cathi Sadocha
WOW! How our boy has grown and is coming into his own. Seems like yesterday we were all waiting on word of his foaling as was Zenyatta. Yes I agree with many he does look like Zenny!
I was thrilled to see this article and the videos are just the icing on the cake. WONDERFUL, TOTALLY WONDERFUL, and THANK YOU for sharing. You all are so giving to us (the Fans).
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Thanks for these videos! It is so good to see Coz’s Barn41 “home” in detail, as from California, we can’t visit like we could at Barn55 at Hollywood Park. I think it also adds a feeling of security, “seeing it for ourselves” — rather than hearing descriptions, seeing still-shots, and of course always knowing Team Z will do the best for Zenny’s foals. Also wonderful to see Jerry & Dottie there, along with John, and Frank. All these details inspire confidence, and bring Coz and his training more into life and focus for me, with no other claim than being an emotionally-invested “Zenyatta Dumpling”.
Carole Curtis
Just love all the photos & videos, what a beauty Cosmic is! will be watching his progress weekly. and waiting for baby sister photos.
LoriW (So. Cal.)
So excited to see these wonderful videos and pics…THANKS Team Z and all involved for sharing! COZ looks incredible, much like mom Z…..he certainly walks-the-walk, loves the
camera too! He has a confident stride, and appears ready for the exciting new chapter in his life! John must be excited to have COZ in his training care, kind of like having Z all over again?
Luv & kisses to all those soft noses (Mom Z, Coz, Z Princess and ZI) :)
Janie (in L.A.)
Thanks so much for sharing this with us – seeing Zenyatta’s first born always brings tears to my eyes. It was nice seeing John, Dottie and Jerry too – saw Dottie blow a kiss at Coz. And what a cutie – looking at the cameras just like his mom. So exciting to see him becoming a real race horse!
Marilyn Morgan
Awesome! I have great hopes for Coz!!!!!!
SusanA
These photos and videos are WONDERFUL!!!! I bet John is just totally thrilled that he’s got Z’s little boy in his barn! He sure is gorgeous….but of course he is! Wow, it seems like Z just left to be a Mom and now here is Coz!!! Be safe and sound Cozmic One!
THANKS for sharing!!!

Dear Max.Nick Luck one of our racing team travelled to France this week to visit CDA.As you know he’s going to have 6 weeks box rest, there is nothing broken.Corinne said he will tell them if it’s time to retire it hasn’t really been discussed. It’s plain to see she adores him. There was rain overnight at Ascot something of a surprise so the going has changed slightly.Have been watching a video of Treve getting ready for Ascot I hope she will travel well 1st time outside France.Megan Nicholls had her 1st winner on the flat this week and Kauto is looking forward to his statue!!Free the Moose PU Dan and all sick horses everywhere.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Don’t know Luck but Air France seems to have lost his luggage. Claire Balding is trying to get it back. I’m worried about Cirrus. Hoping that the shadow on the x ray is healing. I admire this horse.
Kauto never lets up the campaign for his statue. Or polos.
What question lingers with me: how’s Tasty?
Free the Moose! Power up Danny! Power up CDA, Chromie and all others who are sick.
Beast, you’re on my radar.

Sheena. I have my own nest to watch. It’s been such a long winter followed by rain that I have neglected outside chores. Today I discovered that we are not alone. A pigeon has created a nest on the deck. There is a young one in it, who cannot fly yet. I haven’t the cold blood to move them off. These birds also assisted in WWII. Looks like I’ll be celebrating bird Father’s Day.
Kathy
Pigeons! Love them! At the same time I had the Alpine goat I also had a pair of fancy fantail pigeons. Beautiful birds! Snowy white.

Lucky little birds to have you watching out for them. Love and Hugs, JB

Secretariat’s last race on the turf course at Woodbine against older horse. Beautifully done on a hand ride.

Kathy
Thanks, Max! Secretariat…my hero!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Thank you. Perfection. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. I like the part where he is getting off the plane. He’s looking around at the greeting party. Truly incredible horse. Could win at all distances and on all surfaces. Obviously travelled well to another country. According to that interview with Maple, Secretariat called his own shots, and that was clear in the Belmont and the Canadian International. Hand rides with Secretariat in charge. The jockeys were along for the ride. My regret is that he did not race after 3.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Secretariat was an unbelievable, magnificent athlete; strong and sound and still not immune to the dreaded Laminitis. They do retire to stud too soon, but because racing is risky and unpredictable as far as injuries are concerned, the powers that be don’t want to take the monetary risk involved in continuing to race. I admire MMM’s connections for giving him this year’s campaign and I hope CC, ROC, Tonalist and others in this year’s three old crop stay healthy and sound and continue to race next year. I have to say I couldn’t own racers because I would be a nervous wreck and rife with worry every time they stepped on a track. It takes nerves of steel, talent and good racing luck. Love and Hugs, JB

Thank you thank you. Keep em coming!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max. That is very kind of you to care for a pigeon. They tend to be looked on as vermin over here.I,as you most probably guess, love all creatures. My mum used to love feeding them in town, they even got to know her!I once had robins nesting in the ivy underneath my bathroom window and a jackdaw come down my chimney there was soot everywhere!!Happy Father’s day to Mr Pigeon.Free the Moose PU Dan.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Cannot believe it! Moonshine Mullin just won the Stephen Foster. He’s a former claimer. Bravo Moonshine and Calvin for bringing him home. Z’s father won this race.
Your mother was a good woman. Pigeons like rats are also creatures of God. Do no harm to any of them is the route to peace with nature.
Free the Moose! Power up Danny! Power up CDA, Chromie and all other who are sick.
Beast, rest up for your next race.
Kathy
Max,
You sound like St. Francis. Bless you! And Happy Father’s Day!
Free the Moose, PU Danny, PU CDA, PU Chromie!

JudyB. This is awesome. He descended to the claiming races, and now he’s back in the elite ranks. Does your heart good to see a hardworking horse do so well.
Free the Moose. Power up Danny! Power up CDA, Chromie, and all others who are sick.
Beast, I’m tracking you.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Another remarkable equine story. MM’s got some really good genes; Albert The Great, Go For Gin, Comorant, His Majesty, Mr. Prospector, Fappiano, Stage Door Johnny, Raise A Native, Northern Dancer. Wishing him continued success. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Moonie is a contemporary of Muchie, Mo and Thirsty. He started at Woodbine and I first heard of him in the Travers, when he was second to Thirsty. I’m very happy that he has since found his stride. Not too many claiming stories are good, but this one certainly is.
Free the Moose. Power up Danny. Power up CDA, Chromie and all others who are sick.
Beast, haven’t forgotten you. Tasty, still waiting for that call. Checking my inbox too. How about posing for a photo?
