December at Lane’s End: Part 3

The last stop on our December trip to Kentucky was Hidden Brook Farm. We were excited about this visit because Cozmic One had recently arrived, ready to embark on a new career.

Sergio de Sousa, partner and manager of the farm, showed us around. His daughter Isabela is training Coz for Retired Racehorse Project’s 2018 Thoroughbred Makeover and blogging about the process on Chronicle of the Horse. Read her first post here.

      Maybe you have already seen on FB the Player is undergoing surgery tomorrow for fractured sesamoids in his right front ankle.Of course there may be complications as with all surgeries but sending thoughts and prayers.He has eaten tons of peppermints.

    RIP Arnaud Beltrame the French police officer who took the place of a female worker during the siege in Thebes.This man showed courage beyond the call of duty.He was married to his partner Marielle in a moving ceremony hours before he died.God bless him.

    Dear Everyone, Just so upset about “The Player” but I am gonna pray so hard for him. Pray so hard that the surgery goes well and he heals well. Don’t know too much about a sesamoid injury but Judy sent me an article so I am learning. I believe Charismatic might have cracked his Sesamoid in his 99 injury along with his Cannon bone I believe. Just needed a point of some reference on this. They said that the Sesamoid injury on Charismatic might have to take longer to heal than the Cannon bone. So So hope Player goes thru surgery well and he does heal well

    Just read that Forever Unbridled will retire after the World Cup and be bred to Madalia D Oro this spring. Good choice but I will hope for Gun Runner another day.

    The ever popular Cue Card is to sign off at Sandown on april 28th hoping to win the Menorah challenge trophy.Winner of nine grade ones during his illustrious career he will ridden by his old pal Paddy Brennan.Now aged 12 if he can sign off with a win the roof will come off Sandown.Stay safe my beauty one last time and then head to the green pastures for a long happy retirement.Love and hugs

    Prayers for The Player as he has surgery today. Hope all turns out well.

    Did any of you all see the Sunland Oaks that was won by Blamed? Daughter of you know who. She won with ease and a hand ride. Lots of points for the Oaks. I know Zenyatta has long since forgiven Blame and with her kind loving heart wishes this girl health and good luck.

        For those of you not on Facebook, The Player is just the funniest horse ever!!! He likes to sleep with his head outside of his stall so lots of peeps have sent him pillows (will try to find a link that works). He has tons of fans and Buff Bradley is just over-the-moon in love with him. Joining everyone with prayers that the surgery and recovery go well for this well-loved horse!! ♥♥

    The Player-Surgery Update
    ‘Great news so far’ for The Player following Monday surgery

    The Player, William “Buff” Bradley’s fan-favorite 5-year-old, underwent successful surgery Monday to fuse his right front ankle, Bradley reported via the horse’s Facebook page.
    A son of Street Hero trained, co-bred and co-owned by Bradley, The Player broke both sesamoids in the leg Saturday while running in Fair Grounds’ Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap.
    The Player shipped to Louisiana State University’s equine hospital for the operation.
    “Great news so far,” said Bradley, adding that a plate and 16 screws were inserted to stabilize.
    Surgery took seven hours, and the horse needed two more to get up.

    Cool Dawn team pay tribute after death of Gold Cup hero at age of 30

    Cool Dawn, who provided a memorable rags-to-riches Gold Cup success for jockey Andrew Thornton, trainer Robert Alner and owner Dido Harding 20 years ago, has died at the age of 30.
    Bought by then 24-year-old Harding from an extension on her business school loan, Cool Dawn won five of his 12 points and finished second in the 1996 Foxhunter at Cheltenham with his owner in the saddle.
    After missing a year through injury, he struck up a fine partnership with Thornton, winning three times at Ascot before making all in the Gold Cup as a 25-1 shot, holding off the strong travelling Strong Promise and the favourite Dorans Pride.
