Z's Diary

Diary Post #454

Dear, dear, dear friends,

I am so proud and elated to share the news with you that I am now a MOM. I just gave birth to a lovely dark bay COLT, March 8th, at approximately 10:10 p.m. Eastern Time.

My adorable foal weighed in at 130 pounds, has a white star on his forehead….and some white on his feet. As Ann commented when she saw him, “he has polka dots on his feet, Zennie, just like YOU.”

All went very well with the foaling. I must say….I did it like a CHAMP!

My foal is absolutely precious…and I am so pleased to share this entire experience with all of you…my precious and loving friends.

We are all still just getting acclimated to this entire new experience. I’m doing great. MY BABY is doing great….and Bernie is also excited! I’ll update you again with some more photos in the morning.

All blessings to each of YOU….and THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART….for being there for ME and SHARING THIS WONDERFUL PART OF MY LIFE WITH ME!

With Love,
Hugs to All~(Can you believe it…..I’m now a MOM!)

    Zen darling,
You are more magnificent now than when I watched you win the Breeders Cup Classic, as if that’s possible. Today, we share your second lifetime achievement, the miracle of your beautiful new colt. So many thanks and good wishes I send to you and your loving connections in California and Kentucky.

Congratulations!! So very happy that everything went well for you Zen. You and your foal look beautiful together; love that he has your coloring and even his muzzle matches yours. It will be so much fun to see videos of you and your baby running in your field at Lane’s End when they are released. Take good care and you look like a natural at being a mom. Lots of love and a very high hoof, Mary Ann

I just new you were ready! Your family just doesn’t fly in to be with a week before it happens..They new you were waiting for them to get there!! They were trying to be sneaky on us!!And what’s really weird, I was thinking of you very strongly last night here in Arizona at midnight, so I sensed it was happening at that time!! and I felt it was going to be a boy!!
So very happy that all went well for you! Wasn’t it amazing how all that labor pain is completely forgotten the moment of birth? Now you get to experience all the growing pains alot of us moms’ have gone through for years as you see you baby through to weanly stage. Enjoy every moment, because there’s no DO OVER!

Ha! At about midnight last night I couldn’t sleep, even remarking to my husband that it’s all I can do to keep away from the computer to see if anything had happened. It just “felt” like it had. I came in this morning and tried to get on to Zenyatta.com and couldn’t. At 6:17 p.m. I finally could. It’s all over the web!

What an absolutely beautiful baby!!! He is SO handsome, and look at those ears! He has his momma’s ears!!! Let’s hope he has her rump as well – that and her heart is what propelled her first over all those finish lines!

Congratulations Zenyatta to you and to all of your connections!

I was thrilled this morning when I saw your picture with your beautiful new foal. I last checked my computor at 10:38p.m. last night before I went to bed and there was no news. I looked outside for a last glimpse of the full moon and thought of the Disney song about being beneath the same big moon and the words came to me from the song. “Someone’s thinking of you and loving you tonight.” Of course, in your case, lots of someones. It is obvious from the video that you will excel at motherhood, just like you have excelled at everything else, ears pricked, enjoying each new experience. Congratulations on another job well done.

Congratulations to you, Zenyatta, and to the Mosses and Dottie and John and your whole team! Thank you for sharing your journey to motherhood and your first portraits with your beautiful baby boy.

Zenyatta, I’ve been following the trail of stardust and love that your career and retirement have left behind for world over the last three years. Although I have always loved and had a keen interest in horses, since back in the days when I was old enough to pick up the NY Daily News, you are one of only two racehorses that I have ever “followed.” The other was Ruffian. I’ve only ever attended one horserace in person – that was Ruffian’s last tragic race on July 6 – (which is my birthday) in 1975. It was very sad. Your career and news about you brought a lot of light and love to horse racing and to me because for many years after Ruffian died, I did not want to hear anything about horses or horseracing.

Thirteen years ago, I decided to get an older horse just for lazy afternoon trail rides. However, all of you horses got together with the Horse Gods and played a trick on me. Instead of a sleepy old trail horse, I got a 17.1 H black retired thoroughbred with a white star who looked a lot like Ruffian but like you, had raced for several years. As you know, galloping on a huge racehorse that was conditioned over a long career is a once in a lifetime breath-stopping experience so I had to learn to really ride. Since then he has carried me to places I could have otherwise never have traveled. I’m very fortunate because a like you, he is a gentle giant; a wise, and gracious being who loves everyone and everything – human and animal. And yesterday, the day YOUR SON was born, we celebrated HIS 31st birthday !!!!!! with carrots and apples for everyone in the barn. – We call the barn our Equine Ashram because my big handsome black horses makes everyone feel so peaceful and at ease. That is what people say about you, Zenyatta!

This morning, I told him the great news that YOUR son was born on HIS birthday and that how people were suggesting names for your baby. HIS barn name is ZEN MASTER – what an interesting name for a Zenyatta colt !!! Since YOUR SON was born on HIS birthday, he said he would be honored if you named your baby boy after him!

Congratulations to the new Mom and the the newborn and senior Birthday Boys!
