Sarah and Ken Ramsay win Queens Plate at Woodbine with Sir Dudley Digges. He’s a son of Gio Ponte, born in Canada. Ken Ramsay says that they are going for the Canadian Triple Crown with Digges. This race was on the new tapeta track. Next race is on dirt at Fort Erie, followed by a mile and a half on the turf on the EP Taylor course. The turf there is like Euro turf, hills and valleys, huge home stretch. It could all happen for the Ramsays. This is a nice horse. Has Zenyatta’s relatives on the distaff. Something to watch.
Dear Max.I think I remember posting about Tepin’s plans after Ascot.I heard she was going for the Woodbine mile.As I am sure you know Sir Dudley Digges was an English politician from about 1610 to 1629.His namesake looks a real beauty.Hope you are having a great holiday and enjoying some cake.Good luck to Sir Dudley in the Triple Crown. Our July meeting this week. Better weather expected.
Sir D is a fine looking animal. He has the Roberto ears as does Danish Dynaformer. However, I read that he knocked Ken Ramsay over when Ramsay came over to see the horse after the race in the Winner’s circle. Ramsay bounced right back up without a care. He was wearing top hat and tails at the time. When your horse wins a race like that, those kind of things don’t seem to matter.
That is a tough order in winning that triple. Can you imagine? Go Digges. Keep us posted!
Yes, having a win like that would mask any pain. Glad Mr. Ramsey was alright.
More great racing on the 4th. Yippee!
According to Toronto papers, the horse got his name because Ramsay is descended from Edward III. As Ramsay tells it, Sir Dudley Digges was tossed in to Tower of London for openly rejecting the idea of the divine right of kings. Digges thought that a king was just like everyone else, because they all put their pants on one leg at a time. Had a great laugh from this. Ramsay is right! It’s the 4th of July for horses too!
Thanks for this info on Sir Dudley (human and equine). Godspeed to him in his quest for the CTC. Here’s a photo of the beautiful boy. Definitely has the ears. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy, Sheena, Marshall,
Just heard about the passing of Cherokee Run. Just Heartbroken. Just love the family
My Dear Dear Boy, Run Free with your son War Pass. Love to you both.
The only thing helping my heart right now is reading that Animal Kingdom will not shuttle this year. So happy he will get a rest. You look so much like your PaPa. Just looking at a picture of him
One more thing helping my heart is that I just read. “Heza Dash A Fire” has just had a workout at Los Al. July 2. So So happy to hear this. After the horrific loss of Moonist, just nice to see this beautiful gelding again. Welcome back boy. Hope to see you soon. Say hey to California Chrome.

Dear Max, Thank you so very much for this. Love him dearly. This article touched on another thing dearest to my heart. Quiet American. He along with Holy bull are back in the main stallion barn. I am holding on tightly that the good lord will leave my boy QA with us a little longer. And Holy Bull. He and Holy Bull were in a back pasture leading a life of luxury, but they told me on QA’a birthday that he is back in the Stallion Barn. He is 30 now. My mother has been ill, but I have to get back to see him.
Max,
Thanks for this post! A really touching article from someone who, of course, was very close to this fine horse. So glad that Ms. Riccio had that good timing again for a last visit with Cherokee Run, aka Monkey. Beautifully written, Cathy! He certainly was handsome with that interestingly shaped marking on his face — sort of a crescent. RIP beautiful boy.
Dear Zenyatta, You look just absolutely beautiful. Zenny, I know I’m going to hush now, but I;m just still hoping your in foal. You sure look to me like you have a twinkle in your eyes. Love you forever.

Ziconic fans should be heartened by BLOOD HORSE reporting on the Belmont’s winner Creator, another son of Tapit.
The breeder noted, “They talk about the Tapits being tough, but they just want their way … Creator never had a bad day on the farm. You thought he would be a good horse because he wanted his way but was never mean about it.”
Creator, like Ziconic, required time; “Asmussen’s team patiently worked through the six starts it took to break his maiden.” Steve said, “it took a while for the light to go on and for the effort to come around. He did have quite a few races … but I think it gave him a good foundation that showed up yesterday” – when he won the Belmont.
John has not only Tapit blood but also Zenny’s strong will to deal with. Ziconic will prevail:)
Peggy,
How old is Nigh Prowler now? Hope he continues to do well. Love that name. Reminds me of a tom cat I had years ago. He was a true night prowler.
Hey Shirlee, He is 4 now. He’s been off for a while so I am so excited to see him.
I am trying to get back to Kentucky the first of October Sure wish he would be at Keeneland. If he were not in a race when I am there. Might would just have to search for him. Ha.
Mary M,
You could be right. There are certain jockeys that just fit certain horses. Mike and Zenny and now Song Bird and Gary with Beholder. And Gary rode my boy Mucho Macho Man to the BC Classic win by figuring out that he didn’t need to use the whip. Muchie was running as fast and as far as he could on his own.
Shirlee, agreed, Gary seems slower than others to use the whip, as was Mike with Queen Z; and seems to try to work with their heads. all my horses lose focus with a whip and even become ‘testy’. And yes, when a rapoir is developed you can use it for a ‘wakeup call’. Ziconic never seemed to work well with it. Easier to say from the stands though than given the glory of the ride in the moment, lol.

You might be interested in this tidbit about Hawkbill. Apparently, his attitude change has been quite dramatic. He started out like the Moose in more ways than the chestnut cashmere coat. When he arrived from Kentucky, Hawkbill was not interested in racing and would trail off to last. They had him in blinkers until recently because he was a very nervous type. Suddenly, for no reason other than something has clicked, Hawkbill now gets it. No blinkers. Calm and cool in the post parade. That duel with The Gurkha in the Eclipse shows that he is a committed racer. Then there is Sir Dudley Digges. They say that it took 7 races for him to break his maiden. Ziconic, it’s your turn.

Summertime meadows buzz with honeybees and the high hum of locusts-sounds of summer, slow as cold molasses and sweet and mellow as warm honey. Who of us doesn’t have memories of many summers-running across hot dust with scorched toes, sitting on the porch, and talking about creepy things and scary incidents? Who does not remember the bright-colored zinnias and hollyhocks in Grandma’s garden or fishing for sun perch in Big Creek and roasted corn on a handmade spit? Who has not walked in deep woods with foliage so dense that the owl called in the middle of the day? Who has not been caught in a rain shower and watched the huge drops splat on the broad leaf of the mayapple and felt it run in rivulets across one’s face? Summertime is a well-traveled road of happy memories so that just recalling is a gift.

I loved the video of the poms and Mouse is so cute playing fetch. That cat video on your FB was hilarious how could anyone have rejected him?Great ladies quarter final Kerber has beaten Halup.Venus and Serena are both in the quarters. There are a few through I have never heard of!Lovely day there.Venus is playing well too Serena next!Tom is off FB for awhile putting the finishing touches to his book but Samwise has climbed his first mountain!Tom continues to amaze his doctors.Do you remember Ava the poor dog with that grotesque tumour nobody got charged it wasn’teven considered cruel!!!! How she must have suffered those 2 years what on earth do they consider is cruel then?Milo has a feeding tube inserted he was nauseous and he needs to build his strength to face surgery. One of the saddest videos I have seen.James and Bob are nearing 1/2 a million followers now and the film is out November 4th.Bob plays himself! You will have to turtle a day late this week.Oh,Zoe looked gorgeous and I adored her video.Such a joy to see Monty feeding Ceri and Teg.Mum was taking a break on the perch.Someone has brought a huge stick in!Have a good day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO.Venus has just won!!!
Yesterday was very enjoyable. Now back to work! As you say, I’ll have to do a lot of turtling today! I think we would do well to take a break form politics on both sides of the pond and just eat some doughnuts! Mouse is an adorable little girl. Dr. Jill sure picks smart poms! That cat has energy through the roof. Glad he has a forever home. Enjoy all the tennis. Superb athletes! Tom is as busy as ever. Good to hear Samwise has climbed a mountain. I do remember Ave. Hard to believe nobody was charged in that. Prayers and best wishes for Milo. James and Bob’s numbers are amazing. Should be a great film! Zoe has some great outfits. Such an endearing little girl. And her mommy and daddy love her so. If only every animal was that lucky! I’m proud of Monty for being such a good dad. Have a great Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Zenyatta look tired. I hope she is well. Btw…is this about Zenyatta or other racehorses? I think Zenny deserves to have this about her and her colts. No one else. Just my thoughts.
Venus and Serena through to the semis.I forgot to tell of jockey Chris Meehan’s mishap while riding in Italy he fell, got kicked by the horse. The starter helped him up because he was choking on his own blood then put him in the recovery position and the racecourse ambulance ran over his leg breaking it.The funny part is a lot of his family work for the ambulance service. They had to get peeps to push the ambulance off his leg.He is having a laugh about the accident now.Truth is stranger than fiction! He also has 27 stitches in his jaw.Sheena

Dear Sheena,
Yesterday was very enjoyable.
