Happy Wednesday!
The summer weather has been beautiful at Lane’s End. It time to break out the fly masks and watch Baby Z shed his furry coat.
Zenyatta and her colt are both happy and healthy. Baby Z will be as tall as his mom in no time!
Thanks to everyone who has sent in questions for the experts at the farm. We are continuing to accept submissions, so head back to the last post if you haven’t asked yours yet! Check back in the coming weeks to see answers to some great questions featured in the blog.
In the meantime, enjoy this video of Z and Baby hanging out in the paddock.
Have a great day!

Oh my, so glad they found this out about I’ll Have Another before he raced tomorrow. I am so happy he is going to be retired. I think he has run his heart out. Maybe we can all go visit him one day. That’s a wonderful thought. I know I’m sad there want be a triple crown winner, but OMG look what remains hopefully a healthy horse still…
@Lava Man, I have a huge question for You. Did you sense something was not going to be right?????????????? Love Ya Lava Man.
I hope if they let him lead in the post parade, I hope they just let him go just a little way, with Lava Man at his side of course. (Just a tiny way) I think they need to let him rest……………….Love Ya I’ll Have Another. Hope to see Ya Another Day………………………
We’ll be looking for ya as a sire. Love, Peggy

I’ll Have Another, just a thought. Maybe you could just go out and well maybe just post for everyone to take your picture. Maybe a final curtain call so to speak. I just don’t want you stressing that leg. I hurt my foot one time, I didn’t think bad but my walking on it just got up one morning and had a swollen foot. kept walking on it and got what they said was a stress fracture because of the walking on it .
Take Care I’ll Have Another, Just worried about you. Maybe I am a little too precaucious, No, just can’t be too careful. LOL Peggy

just to kind of soothe my soul….spent a few minutes looking at picture of Zenny and
NotWeeAnyMoreZee at the top of this article…they stand alike…as the baby fuzz goes away…they look alike…i can almost see dapples on him…same neck…same ears…same body type…can see by way they seem to be stepping…could have the same stride…sure hope Bernie was precocious(?) not a slow developer like our lovely Zenny..now i admit that i am not the best one to judge these things but “mini me”..

I got a video of me jumping with Gus today. It’s on my Facebook page, I just have to figure out how to post it on here. But go look at it if you get the chance.
I am disappointed that IHA isn’t running but hey, he’s got the best connections looking out for him, behind our Queen’s of course. I am happy he can pass on his heart and fight to his foals. I am still watching, but I will be cheering on the Rags now. His owner is so wonderful, she so deserves it too. Maybe we’ll see Rags at SA for BC and we can cheer on he horse to take the baton from IHA and positively promote the game. Celebrate his achievements, and visit him after he is sent to stud. Let’s all raise another for IHA. :-)

Hi Zenny and Zsters: Great video. Yes, little Z12 is not so little anymore.
My heart is broken over the news of IHA. I am so thankful l I got to see him at the Preakness. I really thought we were going to see a Triple Crown winner this year. It is so disappointing. I am sure I will have a great day seeing Dullahan and Union Rags.

It’s a shame IHA wasn’t able to be part of an amazing history with the TC but glad his injury was caught before the race. He’s already done a lot for racing and has earned his due respect. With all the incredible obstacles it seems like this Belmont race has been jinxed from the start. Hope we can get to visit him in California before he’s retired.

THANK YOU FOR THE LINK TO ZENNY IN THE SNOW, JUDY! Whenever we forget how glorious she is, how fit and regal and spirited she is–whenever we forget what she looks like when she is running alone in majestic symmetry, watch this video. Of all the Zenny videos there are, this is my favorite because she is an explorer here, even though her people are all around her. It was so good to see Mario with her again…and to hear her whinny. She was, is and will always be magic, enchanted, and the greatest race mare of all time. May she live a long, healthy, happy life. This video makes me smile and cry at the same time…

Karen. This guy is wonderful like IHA. Very sorry that they will not be racing together in the Belmont. No doubt this is not the last that we will hear of Mario. I have read that he may be going to be based at Woodbine or LA. Time will tell.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
DO YOU THINK MARIO IS GOING TO LEAVE SANTA ANITA???
Max
Sign. I am not certain. I had read that he is trying to get Canadian citizenship so that might play into any plans about Woodbine. There are a lot of first class horses there. TT raced out of Woodbine. I would love to know what she is doing these days.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Thanks for the information Max. I remember Chantal Sutherland sayd that Woodbine is a very wealthy track. Wonder why he is splitting time between Canada and Santa Anita????
Karen Gogue / my heart :)’s ♥
Doug O’Neill and Mario will be back in LA tomorrow. Don’t know if Mario is riding though. IHA? Not sure when he is coming home.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Dear Max,
I guess Woodbine and SA have opposite racing months and he truely
has been so well developed and mentored by his candian “family”
I can understand his desire to go to Woodbine. The jockey community
at SA is very tough to break into, as well.
Maybe he will get to ride Tasty’s colt ????
Hope he is nice than his mom. Mares
tend to be a little more tempermental.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Great interview, very touching !!!
A breakdown on the track would have been devastating.
Rose Edwards(Quarterhossgal)
Queen Z and little z look just great! I feel badly for all the connections of IHA and so sorry for IHA, he is an outstanding individual! I agree about the post parade, I would feel much better if he was being led rather than being ridden! He knows what happens after the post parade and he could well be on his toes!
Susan from Tn: I am so very sorry for your loss, they each take a part of our heart when they leave. You have been so kind in trying to help me stabilize my laminitic mare Bailey (so far she is doing fairly well). Just know we are all thinking of you.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
It is safe to ride him as he has a “sprained” ankle so only maximal work will
cause things to worsen. He loves Mario on top of him so even if on his toes he may jump around, which he could do in has stall, round pen or in a paddock, but be sensible. He is a very sensible horse.
I am sure they have an Ice boot or something like that on the
leg constantly since diagnosis and may be giving him some bute to decrease inflammation. It really is a minor sprain, but a significant injury to a racehorse.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Oh yes, probably Lava Man will be ponying him, too so even more safe for him as they are buddies.
Marshall (NC broad)
How sad and disappointing; however, how fortunate that I’ll Have Another’s injury was caught before major damage could occur. I am glad that the trainer and owner love him enough to do what’s best for the horse. Ah, c’est la vie — up one day, down the next.
Best wishes to all for safe racing tomorrow!

Just want to share with all of you my dear Zenyatta friends, something special that happened to me tonight. I was totally devastated by the news of I’ll Have Another, but I thought I was suffering in silence. (Husband really didnt care). This evening my dear friend Lisa came knocking on my door while I was sitting here reading the blog. Bless her heart she came bearing 2 Jack and Cokes with her. One for her and one for me. She came in and hugged me and said “I am so sorry about your horse” (meaning of course IHA) She is not a horse racing fan. I was so touched that she thought about me when she heard the news. How sweet is that? Good dear friends make life so sweet!

good article – as always – by Bill Dwyre. And as he predicted in the article, the first “comment” in the comments section was about a conspiracy theory involving “juice” and greed. (followed by other non-conspiracy theory comments). Knowledgeable people have looked at pictures of IHA and seen the swelling. Others claim that Team O’Neill can’t be trusted about anything. Where to go with all of this? It’s such a sad time for everyone who, above all, loves the majesty of seeing a thoroughbred run full out with such heart and grace, never mind the gambling, the odds and who hits the boards.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Dear Karen G,
Great editorial by Bill Dwyer. He hit the nail on the head. American TB are
bred for the sales ring and not for soundness, stamina and good bone.
It is a shame. But IHA is a truely talented horse and it was so very awesome
to watch him take down Creative Cause and Bodemeister.
Teeth of the Dog and Triniberg both won their races today. Talking heads pointed out how superior IHA was to them as he beat them by many lengths.
Thanks to Team O’ Neil and of course LAVA MAN for the great ride !!!!

Great Links KG.
O’Neill has gotten bad press throught out IHA campaign, which is to be expected,
when in the limelight all the dirt is dug up.
I think he is a good guy and really cares about his horses, loves children and does a lot of charitable work. I admit all of the partying at the SA Derby did not look good in
my eyes, out of all of that over the last few weeks we got to see the real Team
O’ Neil and the connections that have made his success happen.
GOOD LUCK TO TEAM O’ NEIL, MARIO AND THE REDHAMS IN THE FUTURE
AND THANKS FOR TAKING CARE OF THE HORSE.

@ Barbara Wood. Thank you for the information about Trina. I noticed she hadn’t been posting and had it in my mind’s eye that she was shut away, composing some more great poetry. Hi All,
Just had to get my two cents in before the race, which has certainly changed in character. We’ll always wonder if this great horse would have made it into the elite status of so few others. Now I’m hearing bad things, that O’Neill might have pulled him because with the tight restrictions he couldn’t get any drugs passed the officials. I don’t want to believe that’s true, I’m hoping it was his love of the horse and his welfare that made him decide to pull him. We don’t need more scandal nationally for racing when the push to bring it back from extinction is looming over the sport.
My sickly friend Sally B is coming up for the race. It seems she has a virus which the doctor says has no name yet. Just a few people showing up with the same complaints. So I told her in order that hubby and I don’t get it she must wear plastic bags over her hands and face. I said I would put holes in the one over her face! Ha, Ha, Ha. She laughed, but I’m thinking of taking a bag and drawing eyes, nose and a mouth on it and poking holes in it. She’ll love it!
Dear Trina, as you know I went thru this 6 months ago and my heart breaks for you. Only the passing of time and for me another dog to love helps to heal the broken heart. Your dear sweetie waits for you at the Rainbow Bridge just like my Opie does, try to take comfort from that! Love and healing hugs to you.
Well don’t know who I want to win today, I like a couple of them for different reasons, but I would scream for joy if Mikie and Paynter won.
I pray for safe trips for all horses and jockeys. Hugs to all and kisses on Z’s and EARnie’s noses.

With the Belmont having a different vibe now, I had to revisit some of Zenny’s races to get that out of this world experience again. After watching the 2009 BC I am left with the absolute knowledge that the Queen is “unbelievable”, period.

A few Redneck jokes for today:
– What do a redneck divorce and a tornado have in common? Either way somebody loses a trailer home!
– What is a redneck’s definition of weather? Relative humidity.
– How many rednecks does it take eat a ‘possum? Two. One to eat, and one to watch for cars.
– What does a redneck say before he gets injured? “Watch this!”
– How do you know when your staying in a Redneck hotel? When you call the front desk and say – “I’ve gotta leak in my sink”, and the person at the front desk says “go ahead.”
– How do you get a redneck out of a bathtub? Throw in a bar of soap.
