Happy Derby Weekend!

Morning at Lane's End. Photo by Tyler Matson

Happy Friday!

Are you excited about the Kentucky Derby? We are, and we want to wish the best of luck to all of the horses and their connections!

Zenyatta and Baby Z have been in the Kentucky news recently. Be sure to check out both of these video segments:

Born To Run—WDRB 41 Louisville and Zenyatta’s First Foal A Handful—wave3.com

We will be returning next week with the second installment of our Lane’s End interview series, this time with assistant broodmare manager Donna Vowles. In the meantime, here’s a short video that was taken in early April by Ann Moss. She really captured Z’s excitement about peppermint treats!

Enjoy your weekend!

    Just a moment of reminiscing.

I just cannot tell you how much I am enjoying these 3 videos; I just had to watch them again because I kept hearing his little squeal and laughing to myself; he is simply adorable. She is so proud and having so much fun with him – you can just tell. And honestly I think she was in a hurry to get to her “mom” – not just to the mints; although I have no doubt she loves them. This story just continues to be so heartwarming. He certainly doe think he is “hot stuff” – lol!

Brenda S. You must be proud as a Canadian about this race. The owner of I’ll Have Another is from Windsor, Ontario and the jockey did most of his riding in Vancouver. I’ll Have Another has Danzig, one of Northern Dancer’s great sons, on both sides of his pedigree. The owner quoted Wittgenstein in his acceptance comments. You do not see that every day.

Congrats to all who helped get this wonderful result, especially to Laval Man who did a great mentoring job. On to Baltimore.

Now that I have calmed down a bit, I would like to say Thank You God, they all were safe, and thank you for this awesome country we live in and this wonderful tradition that has gone on for 138 years.

Mary J Blige, very nice job with the National Anthem. Thank You.

NBC, very nice coverage. I had my doubts, but I think you all did a very nice job. However, it will never be like the days with Jim McKay, in my opinion.

Finally, Congratulations and thank you to all the horses and their connections. They all worked hard and all were very deserving to be in this years Kentucky Derby.

Hi Linda, I wish I could say that I would be at the Preakness, I’d love to see a Triple Crown race, but that will have to stay on the Bucket List. I was at Three Chimneys in 2009 and was lucky enough to see Flower Alley cover a mare. You too must have seen Smarty and Big Brown as well as Dynaformer.
I will be going to the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine in June, the tickets for Vic and I arrived this past week, and we have the same seats as last year. We’ll also be at the Prince of Wales in July so we get to see two out three of the Canadian Triple Crown races.
Enjoy your visit to Baltimore, hopefully you’ll see I’ll Have Another win the second leg – I think we’re overdue for a Triple Crown winner.

What a wonderful day for So Cal in Kentucky. I’ll Have Another, takes the roses. Congratulations to his owners and team. Bodemeister shows he’s “for real” and much more. Wow those fractions!

Flower Alley: They’ll soon be updating the online Stallion Register from:

    Best DISTORTED HUMOR at Stud.
    Two G1 Winners in 2011 – New G1
SW in 2012, KY Derby (G1) hopeful
    I’LL HAVE ANOTHER ($634,000).

    TO:

    Best DISTORTED HUMOR at Stud.
    Sire 0f 2012 KY Derby (G1) Winner
    I’LL HAVE ANOTHER

Dullahan did his big brother, Mine that Bird, proud. Their mom, Mining My Own, is writing her own pedigree…Dam of two Kentucky Derby runners, one a winner the other placed. She has a Tapit two-old filly, dropped a Giant’s Causeway colt last month and is booked to Bernardini. What do they call broodmares like her….Blue Hens.

Oh my! The day just got better. Morning Line, making his first start for John Shirreffs, in the Mervyn LeRoy at Hollywood Park, holds on to win. Nice.

Good for John! We love it when a good man finishes first.
