Happy Mother’s Day!
Team Zenyatta headed to Lane’s End for the day and spent some time in the Kentucky rain with Momma Z and her colt. Z even gave some flowers to her human mom! We thought we would share a few of our Mother’s Day moments.
To all of the amazing mothers out there, all of the best to you and yours.

Happy Mothers Day to Zenyatta and all! Love the pixs, thank you so much for them. That colts looks like a handful (as most boys are!). Zenyatta seems to have the patience she has for him like she has for us humans. Thank goodness!

Those pictures have sent me to the stars! They are so adorable, so sweet! Zenyatta has embraced motherhood in hyperdrive–she is the quintessential mom, and what a joy it is to see her with ZStarman (my name for him). How old is he now? When will he be 6 months and separated from his mama? He’ll make it, but you have to wonder how Zenyatta will feel about being without her baby boy…I hope she takes it well and doesn’t get hurt or angry. Then again, I’m not a horse person, so if this is the normal thing to do and it was done to Zenyatta, too, perhaps she has that understanding. I hope so, for her sake. Sorry, I am a worrier and i can start worrying about something even though it’s months away! I just want Zenyatta to be happy. She is the greatest race mare ever born and i never want her to be viewed with anything less than total respect and dignity and appreciation and recognition of her status. Well, i just looked at those magnificent photos again and tearing up.
Eveline / Maryland.
Looking at what a mouthy handful 12Z is, Zenny will be ready for some peace and quiet after 6 months, LOL.
Zenyen
LOL!
Exactly! She is going to be quite happy for him to go off to ‘college’ so to speak with the other youngsters. Then she can go back to quiet time with her girlfriends until Z13 is born!

I hope your Mothers Day was terrific!!! LOVE to Z, baby z, and their Z team,

Thanks, that sure is sthg. As little as Weezee is, already challenging his Mom. Why, he’ll be hell on legs later on, I’ll bet he’ll be very competitive. Hope, he’ll also have a sweet side to him as his great Zee Mom has.
Thanks again for the beautiful pics.

Dear Sunny:
He’s just so mischievous right now. I think he will have a sweet side as he matures and I think you’re so right; he will be competitive. Hugs, JB

I hope they do not have to geld the little guy – I hope that is not ever necessary! LOL! That’s a loong way off – and with all the love he gets, and has got, from day one – how could he not be loveable and sweet like his beautiful momma??
Terry Crow GP
He is so valuable already for breeding purposes that i doubt that will ever happen. He is valuable even if he can’t run a step.

Thanks for the great pictures. Zenyatta looks great and seems to have a lot of patience with her little rascal. Has anyone measured his ears!! ;)
Linda in Fla.
My favorite and first Fred Stone print is titled “Patience” and shows a mare with her foal nibbling at her halter. Leave it to Zenyatta’s little man to raise the bar. He takes after his mama, and that’s a very good thing.

Thank you to Team Z for the pictures. I did not see them until today. Just Beautiful. I will show the children for sure.
Happy Mother’s Day to all my Z Family moms and to Mrs. Moss. Happy Mother’s Day to our Special Queen Zenyatta. She is a really good mother. I love you Zenyatta and your Little Prince. I hope everyone has a good day. Love, Shari XXXOOO
Jeanie
Thank you Ann and Jerry for giving us a front row seat to Z’s first Mother’s Day! I just love the way little Z-12 is jumping up to nip his mother’s halter and she is looking kind of irritated/tolerant of his behavior. I felt that way many times when my son was little and jumping and nipping! :) I think it is just so special that Ann and Jerry would go spend Mother’s Day with Zenyatta. Wow. They are very special people.

Hansen not running in Preakness Stakes 2012
Hansen, last year’s 2-year-old champion who finished ninth in the Kentucky Derby, has been declared out of consideration for Saturday’s Preakness Stakes, owner Kendall Hansen said in an email to The Courier-Journal.
Hansen’s next scheduled start is the $400,000 Woody Stephens at seven furlongs on the June 9 Belmont Stakes undercard, Dr. Hansen said.

Zenyen
Huh.
A step down in class and a cut back on distance.
Terry Crow GP
Could be that his connections have decided that 1 and 1/8 miles is about his max. I would have liked him to try the Preakness because of the configuration of the track. Sharper turns at Pimlico, places a premium on speed which Hansen certainly has. However, his people know best. Look forward to his race on June 9, just hope his natural speed has not been dulled.
Zenyen
Coming back on distance could definitely be a step that Hansen has shown he needs. Not all horses are made to carry their speed far, no knock in that.
I just wonder at the step down in class. Granted its I to II not like he’s going into an allowance but I mean does this horse need to be in the Woody Stevens or is the good Doctor trying to get a slice of the ‘Belmont’ fever without running in the Belmont.
Especially when there are Grade I late summer sprints Hansen could be rested for and then pointed towards in anticipation of his BC Mile or Sprint contention.
Terry Crow GP
You make some good points. Perhaps this proposed race is more in the category of a speed sharpener with a decent purse to spice it up. I love Hansen. He reminds me somewhat of Shackelford. I would think BC mile would be more to his liking than the sprint.
Patricia/Far northern CA
Terry, I think you’re right… this also gives Hansen a bit of a rest between races, and he apparently does know when he’s racing and gets “a bit excited” … so now he’ll have a little breather to recuperate and rebuild, so to speak, and he’ll still be seen on the Big Stage of Belmont Park. He’s a neat horse, and maybe he can’t hold that blazing speed for 10 furlongs… but there are shorter races out there too, and a good miler is always useful and popular. At 3 years old most horses are still finding their best distances and surfaces. All the rush to the Derby skews things for many horses, and the frantic way the race gets run can mess up a lot of them. All too many lose all chance in the jostling and crush of the early stages. Give him a bit less traffic and a slightly shorter distance, and he’ll strut his stuff.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
I AGREE TC, DR. HANSEN IS A PHYSICIAN, THEY ARE ALWAYS DRIVEN BY
MONEY, FAME AND GLORY. “DON’T FORGET I SAVED YOUR LIFE”, THEY TELL THEIR PATIENTS.
SHORTER DISTANCE; TO LEAVE MORE IN THE TANK; AND GOOD PURSE.
I DO ALSO LIKE HANSEN A LOT, HE IS A VERY UNIQUE HORSE, ONE OF TAPIT’S BEST SON’S.

Cozzetti Heads Preakness Works at Churchill
By Steve Haskin, The Blood-Horse
Updated: Monday, May 14, 2012 10:10 AM
Although the May 14 work byBodemeister didn’t happen, as the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) runner-up just galloped at Churchill Downs, there still was plenty of action over the sloppy track with Preakness (gr. I) works by Cozzetti, Hierro, and Optimizer, as well as Isn’t He Clever and Bodemeister’s stablemate Paynter.
The highlight of the morning was the five-furlong work in :58 4/5 by Cozzetti, with the son of Cozzene rattling off fractions of :11 3/5, :23 1/5, :34 4/5, and :46 4/5, and then galloping out three-quarters in 1:12 2/5.
“He’s ready to go,” trainer Dale Romans said. “We wanted a good work and he likes a track with a little water on it. I think he’s going to run huge.”

Cozzetti, another Preakness probable, flies 5f over muddy Churchill Downs strip in :58.80;
splits 11.60, 23.20, 34.80 46.80…out 12.40
As you can see from article above probable became contender, Cozzetti is in!
Jeanie
I just have one more thing to say and then I will shut up for the rest of the day. The look in Zenyatta’s eyes is so soft when she’s looking at Ann. Really an open book to her heart — how she feels about Ann. She has a nice attentive look when she’s got for Jerry, but not the same as the look for Ann. So sweet. Really shows what kind of people they are.

Preakness Rankings: Kentucky Derby runner-up Bodemeister will run against I’ll Have Another
Derby runner-up is slight favorite heading into race at Pimlico
By Jerry Bossert / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Published: Monday, May 14, 2012, 11:04 AM
The rematch is set.
Bodemeister, the runner up in the Kentucky Derby, will start in Saturday’s Preakness Stakes at Pimlico against Derby winner I’ll Have Another after galloping around the muddy oval at Churchill Downs Monday morning under the watchful eye of trainer Bob Baffert.
“Bodemeister looks happy,” Baffert tweeted. “Headed to Baltimore Wednesday.”

OK, I admit that I was wrong about Bodemeister in the Derby. However, the same reasoning I had then applies now. He has had two tough races, the Arkansas Derby and the Kentucky Derby in a relatively short period of time. Could he repeat his effort in the Kentucky Derby? Perhaps. A bounce is more likely. Look for a price in this race.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
I AGREE, I THINK BODEMEISTER IS A VERY TALENTED COLT AND I ALSO UNDERESTIMATED HIS TALENT IN THE KY DERBY AND SLAP MY HAND;
BUT HE REALLY LAID IT ALL OUT ON THE CHURCHILL DOWNS TRACK.
TANK COULD LIKELY BE EMPTY.
NOT SURE HE IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO REPLICATE; I’LL HAVE ANOTHER
CONSERVED ENERGY AND PROBABLY HAS SOME “LEFT IN THE TANK”.
REALLY LOOKING FOR A GREAT RACE THIS WEEKEND. MAY ALL OF THE HORSES COME BACK SAFE AND SOUND; CAN’T WAIT TO SEE LAVA MAN’S ESCORT SERVICE. HE IS SUCH A VERY EXPRESSIVE TB AND REALLY LOVES
HIS NEW JOB.
Terry Crow GP
The main reason that Lava Man never got his due from the national press is because he never won a race outside of California.

Belated Mother’s Day greetings to Zenny and Ann, I hope you all enjoyed the visit, and it was so sweet of you Zenny to give your Mom such beautiful flowers. I hope that you got some pears and carrots.
Never got to the computer yesterday, Vic thought it was very necessary that we go to the track so that she could legally bet now that she’s eighteen. She was very excited to actually place the bet herself and then collect her winnings.
I’m fascinated by the photo of Z12 with forelegs up and grabbing for Zenny’s halter. The little colt that Vic visits does a similar thing but he tries to put his front legs up on the shoulders of any person who is close, and also seems to think that it’s great fun to lash out with a front leg.
Thank you Diana for taking on the task of Social Director, I can hardly wait for November and never ever thought I would say that!!

Sorry, Marshall. I don’t know how I made that mistake. I try to be very careful when dealing with names.

Guess you could add me as a closet member from/in California… one who appreciates all redneckdom but just cannot match the cleverness of the Grand PooBah or the other prominent members.

There is no need to be shy. There is no president of the California chapter and you could be the fourth charter member. The club appreciates all members and there is no requirement as far as posting is concerned. Just give the word and you’re in. However, you are not in unless you agree to it. You would be a most welcome member.
