Happy Mother’s Day!
Team Zenyatta headed to Lane’s End for the day and spent some time in the Kentucky rain with Momma Z and her colt. Z even gave some flowers to her human mom! We thought we would share a few of our Mother’s Day moments.

Hi Queen Z, and the whole Z Land team, Thank you so much for the wonderful pictures of the Queen and her riotous Prince!!!!!!!!!!!. Isn’t he just adorable. That was the best Happy mothers day HUG AND KISS ever given, EVER, it will go down in history as the best. PRICELESS! Trust our little tyke to do some thing so special for his mama. If there was any doubt that he is a mama’s boy, there isn’t now. An sure mama Z was all aglow with that wonderful show of affection!!. Am going to use it as my screen cover!. It is beyond.
By the looks of it, am sure the Queen had a memorable mothers day weekend, what with the whole gang showing up for the day. What proud mama and papa the Mosses must be with their gal. I am mighty proud of her too. She does everything so perfect.
I hope all the mothers also had a wonderful mothers day with lots of rest and love.
LOL to the Lanes End team who always make sure the the Prince does not get into any trouble and taking good care of our Queen. I hope she has a grey foal this time around. That would be so awesome. Any color is fine too so long as he/she is well.
Bye to everyone, and Diana, glad that you are feeling better.Have a great week everyone and God Bless.

Hi Zenny, I am Nacho, a buckskin quarter horse and today is my 23rd birthday. My mom made me cupcakes (would any one like one), I’ll share with you. My pal Queen isn’t to keen on them so you can have hers.
My mom loves Zenyatta and her boy, and she sure likes the new pictures. For mothers day we gave her some peppermint plants and the recipie for the Mint Julip cane with the plant. We had to stick with a horse theme.
A belated Mothers Day to all and love to all.

Here is today’s horse joke. Warning-It is extremely corny. A farmer discovered that his horse is unusually intelligent. You could ask it an arithmetic problem, and it would tap out the answer with its hoof. Researchers were fascinated and tested the horse. They discovered that the horse understood algebra, geometry, calculas and even group theory. However, when he was given a problem with Cartesian coordinates, the horse just stood there like any horse. They were quite surprised. given how intelligent the horse was otherwise. They brought in an expert who examined the situation and he explained the problem. “Of course the horse cannot understand any Cartesian coordinates. You are putting Descarte before the horse,.”

Today’s redneck jokes. You might be a redneck if your Grandma gave you a wedding present wrapped in Christmas paper. You might be a redneck if you fall down in your house and get grass stains on your clothes. You might be a redneck if you go to the post office to see your family portrait. You might be a redneck if, at every wedding you’ve been to, you’ve had to dance the chicken dance and the hokey pokey. You might be a redneck if your best friend is a raccoon. You might be a redneck if you’ve ever won a trophy with someone else’s name on it. You might be a redneck if you attended AA while in preschool. You might be a redneck if you get all of your holiday decorations from the cemetery. You might be a redneck if you have a relative living in your garage.

The chicken dance and the hokey pokey are classics. Even better is a good old polka. I miss the weddings from W Pa. The wedding receptions were great. Good food and the cookies were like heaven – plus everyone always had the Open Bar. That was the reason all of these happened. The chicken dance the hokey pokey and the polka.

ABSOLUTELY!! As well as the Chicken dance and hokey pokey what do you think we are up here……… a bunch of waltzers! Ha, Ha. Diana Stuart BC2012 NEWS FLASH!
Okay everybody – here goes. Please forward to others.
First, for those who thought I might be playing banker and buying all the BC tickets for everyone – heh, heh – what the heck are you drinking? You need to buy your own, but here’s where to aim all the dollars in the jar you’ve been saving.
Second, I’d still like an email from anyone who is coming to BC2012 at dms@mail.maricopa.gov (just for this only please) and where your hotel is (I lost the original list).
Stephanie in group sales says the “Dumpling” Grandstand Reserved seats are: Section N; Rows 13, 14, 15; and seats 101 – 113 in each of those rows. The total for both days, including fees, etc. is $380. Order on line – ASAP – at http://www.breederscup.com, or by phone at 1-877-414-9752. If you talk to a human and run into trouble, tell them “Stephanie knows where the Dumplings are supposed to go”.
Moving down the price range, The 1st Floor Clubhouse Apron is at track level, has the same kind of bench seats as the Grandstand Reserved seats, but is way past the finish line. For those that run back and forth from saddling ring to apron though, these will work. Total for both days, before fees, is $120. As of 2:30PM PDT, there were seats available.
For the daring and bold Dumplings who just want in the door and will take their chances with General Admission (we know a bunch of those, don’t we Auntie Judie and Granny Karen?), GA tickets go on sale 30 days before BC on line with a printable ticket. You’ll have to watch for the “GO” sign. Yes you can also buy at the gate, but that’s a bet even I wouldn’t take!
I want to look into getting a 32-passenger chauffered van just for us Dumplings to run us around to our hotels and such. Having done these before, they are usually very cheap per person. Stay tuned on this.
Last but NOT LEAST: A little bird said a special party is very likely. Duh. Wonder what that might be about?

Preakness 2012: Field of 11 or 12 looks likely at Pimlico
By Jay Privman DRF
With entry day fast approaching Wednesday for the 137th Preakness Stakes on Saturday at Pimlico, the prospective field came into sharper focus Monday, with Hansen, Hierro, and the longshot Brimstone Island bowing out, leaving a likely field of 11 or 12 for the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Thank you so very much for sharing Zenyatta’s First Mother’s Day with myself and all of the others; the pictures were beyond adorable. Happy Mother’s Day to you Ann – what a girl you have – I just loved the picture of the 2 of you at the stall with your flowers. She is definitely very connected to you – you can tell. I loved everyone’s comments as well and haven’t even had time to read them all yet; I could tell many of them were very touching but I wanted to say thank you first and foremost! Baby Z certainly considers himself quite “the dish” doesn’t he? I bet you had more fun over the weekend just sitting and watching him play and show off for you – I can’t imagine. Happy Belated Mothers Day to All!

Responding to a diminishing number of requests, I will repeat my story about Tonto’s horse. Some friends of mine owned a riding stable in Glendale, California when the old Lone Ranger TV show ended. There was an auction held, and they bought one of the horses which were used to portray Scout, Tonto’s horse. Everything was fine until one day the horse started doing strange things when it was being ridden, such as bowing and skipping. My friends contacted the studio, and they learned that the horse was the “:tricky” Scout, one who could do tricks on verbal command. Trouble is, no one knew what the commands were or what trick was associated with the commands. They had grown to love the horse so they did not choose to give him back, although that would have been justified because there should have been a warning. My friends even contacted Jay Silverheels, who told them he was aware of the horse, who was one of four used to play the role of scout, but that the commands were given by the trainer off camera and he did not know what they were. He did come by the stable to see his old horse, however.

Dear GP Terry Crow:
Wonderful story. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC broad)
Thanks for a great story, Terry! Loved The Lone Ranger show. Am glad that Scout (the tricky Scout) was loved and found a good home with your friends. Hope the others did, also.
Take care!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I must have missed round one of this one so I thought this was another joke where you had changed the names to amuse the audience until I got to the end (ha!) Good story Terry!
Sue Fredrick Co-P WI Chapt.
Terry,
Sandy and I must think alike (that’s pretty scary) because I thought it was a joke too. I am so amazed at what an interesting life you have had and even more so that you remember in such detail, I can’t remember names at will anymore, I keep telling the family my brain disc is searching, searching like the Internet, Ha, ha. Without being too personal, were you invovled in racing somehow as a child?
Terry Crow GP
To all who commented on this story, thank you. I should have added that my friends could not rent out the horse for riding because they (or the renter) could never know what the horse was going to do if someone said one of the command words, so they just enjoyed him around the stable and were careful not to say anything when they rode him. Sue F- My mother had a small stable and raced 3-4 horses during the 50s and 60s at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita. I used to go with her when he visited her horses and I was able to meet many of the racing personalities of that period.
Keta
Terry,
I truly hope your childhood was as much fun as the one I have conjured up in my imagination.
Like many here, I too grew up in the Lone Ranger era.
It was a great kid show–of course, young horse lover also watched Roy Rogers and Gene Autry.
All these shows seemed to have that moral lesson at the end: Do the right thing. Do onto others. Bad guys get caught & punished. You know the endings.
And, an introduction to western landscape and in some shows the bonus of western musci.
How interesting that even Jay Silverheels did not know the magic words.
Guess the was job protection for the trainer.
I can see someone saying “oops” and tricky Scout kneeling and dropping the rider on his head.
What is so great about your growing up experiences is that you remember them in such detail.
Keep sharing.
Hugs, Keta
Terry Crow GP
Keta-Thanks so much for your post. When I was a contributing member of society, I belonged to an old-time radio group that was sponsored by our company. I used to do the introduction of The Lone Ranger for the radio. I have a face suited for the radio. “Return with us now to this thrilling days of yesteryear. From out of the past come the hoofbeats of the great horse Silver, The Lone Ranger Rides Again! “There is more but I don’t want to bore everybody. Things come to me in bits and pieces. The wonderful people on this blog are truly a blessing for me.

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
See???? Vicki’s comment should sound familiar :-)
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
ummm . . . “scary” for whom???? :-)
Terry Crow GP
The main problem was the possibility of lawsuits should a rider be thrown to the ground as a result of one of the commands.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
The main problem HERE is that your comment got slipped in while I was writing mine to Sue F (see above re “Sandy and I must think alike”)

Dear Terry,
What a great story; just like Joey in War Horse; all those commands behind the
scenes to get him to do his work. However, the Lone Ranger had many more
tricks than Joey did.
Terry Crow GP
I posted this before, but I’ll do so again. War Horse was far and away the best film of 2011, at least in my opinion. The scene near the end where the wounded soldier whistled to Joey even affected this old goat.
Karen Gogue / Oh B♥by Oh!

Dear GP Terry Crow:
Sign sent me her DVD of War Horse because I had not yet seen it. Thought it was a great movie. Difficult to watch some scenes, but really enjoyed it. Russ would have loved it. His father was in the Mounted Infantry in World War I. We had a photo of him with his horse, which I gave to the younger boy to keep. Hugs, JB
Terry Crow GP
Russ certainly had a lot of experiences. I would have liked to see that picture. The stories he must have had. War Horse, then, especially resonated with you. Seemed like a better movie than a silent film with french actors.

How special is that to have a horse from the “Lone Ranger show”,, I wonder what happened to Silver the lone rangers horse? Interesting story. Thank for sharing.
Terry Crow GP
I will try to contact my old friends and see if they have a catalog from the auction. It’s been a while since I talked to them, though.

OK, according to the information I have been able to obtain, Clayton Moore bought Silver and used him for personal appearances. When they were not appearing together, he stayed at Moore’s ranch. His eventual destiny is unknown.
Patricia/Far northern CA
… and FWIW, Jay Silverheels in his after-Tonto years was pretty active in harness racing, as a driver and ? I think he owned a number of horses too — Standardbreds, not TBs or “Scouts”

Terry Crow GP
I loved TV when westerns were on every night of the week and some nights were all westerns. The Lone Ranger is a classic and any kid who did not see it should check out some of the old web sites. Hopalong Cassiday made a lot of money for William Boyd. He was smart enough to see that TV was going to be a big thing, and he bought the rights to his old films from his studio. Therefore, when early RV was so desperate for programming, itn turned to him and he made a ton.
