Happy Mother’s Day!
Team Zenyatta headed to Lane’s End for the day and spent some time in the Kentucky rain with Momma Z and her colt. Z even gave some flowers to her human mom! We thought we would share a few of our Mother’s Day moments.
To all of the amazing mothers out there, all of the best to you and yours.

@ NANCY IN NJ
Well, in my eyes everything John Henry did – including his Moneigh painting – is beautiful! :-)
Since he wasn’t too keen in holding the paint brush in his mouth (like Cigar) they used his nose and tail quite a bit. The colors are vibrant (like him LOL) red, purple, green – I love it! Of course the piece of tail hair tied with a bow is too cute!!! I love it!

from what I could tell, all of the Hall of Champions horses have their own paddock and stall – on some kind of rotation basis to accomodate everyone. I think! I’m so glad that RR gets some R and R!!!

To me the telling quote was, “He’s fine, but he ran hard and he’s not quite the same horse, to be honest.” Otherwise, I had the impression they would have kept running him. Cole said, “Why risk having him get beat.”

This boy is getting big and look at those ears! He’s your boy, Mama Z, no doubt about it. Thanks so much for sharing these great photos, Team Z!

A Poem of Thanks to All Who Posted Well Wishes on My Birthday
(May 17, 2012)
Fellow Z-sters,
My dear brothers and sisters
In Dumplinghood,
It felt SO good
To receive your birthday salutations,
Which all my heart did touch.
Thank you so very, very much
For these tributes
So cute
And so clever
In video, prose and poetry.
May I offer each of you,
Along with my heartfelt thanks,
Sincere congratulations
On your courage and creativity
As you did choose
To join the ranks
Of the muse.
Collectively
You’ve made this for me
The best birthday ever!
First brought together
By our love for Z,
We now see
How affection for each other
Has come to lovingly tether
Us additionally
One to another.
I will hold you all
In my heart forever!
—-Your ever so grateful Trina Nagele

Good Morning All
I’m so happy to hear about Rapid Redux. I saw Mr. Cole on HRTV last week and thought they might be leaning in this direction, but wasnt sure. So good to see another horse owner who thinks more about the horse than himself! I will definitely plan on seeing Rapid Redux at Ky Horsepark this summer. Yeah!!

I’m not certain on the mileage but it is about 4.5 to 5 hours depending on traffic or road construction. However it is two days my mule train.

Trina,
A belated Happy Birthday! I hope you had the best day ever. If I attempted a poem it would leave you frowning instead of putting a smile on your face, so I will spare you.lol. Instead, I want to share with you a few things my momma told me about you before she passed, from reading her endless notebooks…”Trina is one of the few truly kind, generous, loving people I have ever known.
She embodies giving without expecting or wanting one single thing in return. She seeks No credit for her generous actions, preferring to stay in the shadows of goodness remaining anonymous. A light like hers can not be hidden, she shines as bright as the brightest stars in the heavens, shining light for the lost. She is a very Rare gift to both humans and animals. She gave me the Joy of Zenyatta to lift me up during my darkest, hardest days. In this world it is so hard to find one with such kindness and goodness. What she did for me not only brought me great Joy, but restored my faith in the decency of man/woman-kind. She kept a light going for me every single day without fail, she took the time to leave me words of encouragement to brighten my day and lift me up. I hope I live long enough to think of a way to thank her. In my entire life, she is the most truly kind person I have ever known.” Kari B.
I will add that I never heard or read my momma speak so highly of any other person. Trina, thank you for all you do and for ALL you did for her. From the bottom of our hearts I hope your day was as special as you. May your life be as wonderful and special as you are….A very rare gift to all.
Terry Crow GP
Ashton-the words of you mother will live as long as any of us are alive. A fitting tribute to Trina.

Good news about Pepsi, Rosemary. But the article also mentions “But the undercover operations also have prompted a backlash from some farm state lawmakers, who have passed laws to make it a criminal offense to infiltrate an agricultural business.” I want to find out which states, looks like some states’ “agricultural business” need to be boycotted.

When you read this, please note the author’s references to how punishment is meted out to trainers in TB racing. You may not agree with the author’s POV (I do), but his point about trainers continuing to race who have violations pending is a needed splash of ice water on racing’s face. This article is excerpted on Paulick today, and the comments made by horse people there seem to indicate to me that this industry will circle the wagons and protect even its sinners from losing their business as usual privileges. And then there are our horses…what about them…

Pimlico: Mamma Kimbo stands out in Black-Eyed Susan Stakes
By Marty McGee DRF 05/16/2012 1:53 PM
BALTIMORE – All the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes did last year was produce the 3-year-old filly champion. Royal Delta rolled home by 2 1/2 lengths in the Preakness eve fixture for her first career stakes victory in a 2012 campaign that ended in a Breeders’ Cup win and a divisional Eclipse Award.
It would be unfair to expect any of the nine 3-year-old fillies entered Friday at Pimlico to use the 88th running of the Grade 2, $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan as a similar launching point, but there can be no denying that the 1 1/8-mile race is rife with potential. Mamma Kimbo, an eye-catching winner of her first two career starts, will be a solid favorite in a race that also includes Welcome Guest and the uncoupled Todd Pletcher duo of Disposablepleasure and In Lingerie as major threats.
Mamma Kimbo, owned by the Peachtree Stable and trained by Bob Baffert, earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure in winning her career debut in February at Santa Anita, then followed it up by getting a 94 in going wire to wire in the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park last month; both of those Beyers are higher than what any of the other Black-Eyed Susan fillies have ever earned. Baffert seriously considered the Kentucky Oaks for Mamma Kimbo, before deciding he wanted to give her another two weeks leading up to her third start.
Mike Smith has a return call on Mamma Kimbo, who was assigned post 4.
