I have already signed the petition for HOY, and I really do believe that Zenyatta is deserving of it for many reasons both on and off the track.
I felt Zenyatta’s historic BC Classic win of 2009 warranted it then – a first of its kind (a girl beats the boys) in their 25 year history! Since winning the BC Classic doesn’t necessarily warrant being named HOY then the 2010 BC Classic winner isn’t necessarily a shoo-in.
Zenyatta’s win record, her 2009 BC Classic win, and her contribution to the sport of horse-racing by capturing the imagination of the public with her win record, personality, sex, and thrilling do-or-die come from behind deep closing style have done so much to bring new fans and the media back to this sport. She is one of those rare champions who represent all that is so exciting and magnificent about horse racing which compels the public to want to follow “her story”.
For that reason, although Blame ran an absolutely perfect race and is a wonderful thoroughbred, considering what Zenyatta’s racing arc has been this season and what it’s done to publicize the industry, I feel Zenyatta warrants HOY.
I signed the petition. Zenyatta has done more in two years than any other horse that comes to mind. The record packed crowds at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita, and Del Mar speaks volumes. Her 19-1 record is one for the books.
I have already signed the petition and am spreading the word to all my friends and associates. What Zenyatta has done for the industry goes beyond being HOTY. She really should be a good will ambassador for all aspects of racing. Look at the figures both in money and attendance at Churchill Downs for Breeders Cup. Enough said, it was all ZENYATTA!
As I stated when signing the petition, if HOY is determined by voters then voters are meant to consider more than numbers, results and ratings. Otherwise, just let computers figure the numbers and quit debating. The subjectivity of how the winner is determined demands that Z be credited for her “Zness”.
This is awful, we go to sign the Petition for Zenyatta and after we fill in the whole thing, the petition sends us to another page on global warming and the polar bear …….. all my friends are angry because they only wanted to sign the Petition for Zenyatta not all the other stuff let alone the global warming thing……. this needs to be fixed it is awful and extremely embarasing. Hi Zenyatta get them to fix it…. I love you.
I signed the petition. HOY is long over due for Zenyatta. She should have had it last year. If she doesn’t get it this year, there is something terribly wrong with the voting.
I’ve signed it and reposted it on various FB pages so it can get around to EVERY Zenyatta fan out there.
Go Big Mama Z! You are not only Horse Of The Year, but Horse Of The Decade, and Horse Of A Lifetime! Kudos to ALL of Team Zenyatta. You guys rock the barn!!
Zenyatta will certainly be named Horse of the Year. I think horse racing is an ugly, nasty business and it is truly wonderful to see these people (everyone associated with Zenyatta) who bring the sportsmanship and ethics to it. The love of horses (especially this one and deservedly so!) and not just money is very apparent with all of you. I hope you have a lasting influence on the sport. Love to you all. Could you please tell me if I could drive down to see Zenyatta from San Francisco? I don’t need special time – just a time when you let the public see her? Please?
Sweet, beautiful Zenyatta. I tried to sign your petition but the petition links to a different one…. I have contacted the petition site to fix it and hopefully we all will all be able to sign soon!
Blame is an excellent horse… I wish him the best! I love them all but you have earned HOTY! You are the horse of a decade! a big Thank you to your connections and trainer etc. to look after you so well and sharing you with all of us!
Wished I could have brought you an apple in person but I am too far away.
You are so amazing!!
WITHOUT A DOUBT, QUEEN Z IS HORSE OF THE YEAR. SHE DESERVES THE TITLE. SHE HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR RACING AND THE FANS. HER TEAM IS TOP-NOTCH. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU SAY ABOUT PERFECTION—YOU GO, GIRL.
Zenyatta is possibly the greatest race horse I have ever seen. She has the heart of a Champion and I will always feel blessed to have seen all of her races. She is second, maybe – to Secretariat in my heart and he – well he was also one of a kind. I pray she she is able to do better with her offspring and create a little Zen Master of her own.
I think Zenyatta should be awarded HOTY. Blame is a great colt but give credit where credit is due. Her record speaks for itself but add all the intangibles that she has bought to the sport of horse racing–the new fans, the fans that have come back after years of being away, the excitement she generated everytime she ran
this year, the newspaper, magazine and tv coverage she generated. Zenyatta is the face of horseracing 2010. How could they award it to anyone else? Love you Z and best to all your connections…
I signed the petition. I do not know when I have believed in something so strong as this. I cannot imagine how they think she cannot get it….for all she has accomplished on the track and off the track.
Dear Team Zenyatta,
I have already signed the petition and forwarded it to my many Zenyatta loving friends! The charismatic and magnificent Zenyatta deserved HOY last year. And she certainly deserves it for this year given her continued winning streak at 4 different tracks and the incredible BC 2010 race where she came from dead last to a nose, with the challenging trip fate threw her way. Zenyatta once again demonstrated all the qualities that mark a great champion. She is Horse of the Year for 2010!! Thank you again Team Zenyatta for making these last three years and 20 extraordinary races a great gift to racing and one for all time!!
Zenyatta…….zenyatta……the queen…. i love the name…. hehe you are so beautiful to look at and have an amazing presence yet so silently devastating…. i was on the floor at the breeders cup….. damn that nose…. but youdidnt loose, youjust gave the winner the winner the biggest head start ever.xxxx
In the Breeder’s Cup 2010 Zenyatta ran the most incredible race I have ever seen in 55 years of watching the Triple Crown Races each year.
She overcame unbelievable odds – squeezed at the start, a cupped dirt surface, and being forced to the outside after Blame was allowed free passage through- and still, with only one more stride, would have won!!
I signed 2 of the Zenyatta Horse of the Year petitions on the Care2 website. One of the petitions I could not sign because I am not a facebook member, although I still check out beautiful Z’s pages!!
ZENYATTA FOR HORSE OF THE DECADE, YEAR, AND HOUR!!!
Zenyatta is the ONLY horse who deserves Horse of the Year this year. If they do not give it to her, there is something extremely fishy going on in the racing industry. They have said that the winner of the Breeders Cup Classic will get the title — but if that is their sole criterion, why didn’t they give it to her last year? ZENYATTA IS THE BEST!!
Zenyatta is very deserving of the Horse of the Year award. It’s unthinkable that any other horse would get this. She is one of a kind – that is a fact.
I am thrilled to be able to sign the petition. To Jerry, Ann, John and Dottie. You are the epitome of class, sharing this magnificent being with all of us who have had such joy watching her. Unlike too many other owner/trainers you have never claimed her accomplisjments as your own and always kept her wellbeing as your only priority. To Mario and Carmen. Your loving care is such a big part of her success. I hope whereever she goes from here you can go with her. To Mike Smith, your love for her is obvious and you could not have done any better for her. And to Zenyatta. There are simply no words to describe the combination of physical beauty, mental brilliance and pure courage and spirit. Seeing you dance and run, even on TV, is pure joy. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Please keep in touch. The thought of you disappearing into kentucky is heartbreaking.
Ms. Zenyatta, I have already signed and my canine child, Lucy has signed. I am urging all my E book to sign after they have gone to your site and FB, I do not want to sway them…I want them to fall in love as well. When I get home I will look and see if there are more petitions to sign. Wish I could vote, our Queen of Kings. They also need to note that your last race you beat, how many, best of the best men…would that have been 12?? Hugs and lots of love, Lisa g
I am so glad you posted the petition here. I was #103 and you guys already have over 3000 fans sign it. I don’t mind that the petition website offers to let you sign other petitions–you don’t have to sign anything else and you can opt out of everything. I know your fans started the petition and it was an easy site for non-technological, non-rich people to go and set up a petition. I am sooooo thankful that Sue created it to give us all a chance to come together to show our support in numbers. Zenyatta most definitely deserves to be horse of the year!!!!

We seen her at the Classic, but in our hearts she won the race, and she does deserve Horse of the Year, now my husband has ZENYATTA fever.
