Zenyatta News

How Fun Was That!

Zenyatta picking winners at Lane’s End Farm. Photo by Alys Emson.

Zenyatta danced, posed and ate lots of cookies as she helped Ande Farish Day, whose idea it was to include her, in picking 10 winners to come and visit with her. Time with her fans is Zenyatta‘s favorite!

Thanks to everyone who shared in the fun and participated in the raffle. Because of you we can make a real difference for many Off The Track Thoroughbreds at The Secretariat Center during their rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming to new careers and/ or lives.

All of Lanes End and especially Zenyatta look forward to welcoming the winners. Big Congratulations! And please be on the lookout for an email from Lanes End.

Happy Friday everyone! Hovey had a “weighty” experience (you’ll see) but is otherwise enjoying time with old and new friends out in his paddock. He is miffed, however, that Barbie Boy continues to have all of the fun with Mini Mum.

Just a week left before the Derby, and I still don’t have a horse. The Oaks actually looks a bit more exciting at this point. Who are you all pulling for (either race)?

      Dear Sandy:

Thanks for our Friday Hovis update. He’s gotten some hilarious zingers in today; handsome photo of him too.

I’m still deciding on a long shot for the Derby and in the Oaks, my heart is with Secret Oath. The Oaks is wide open though I think; just loaded with talent.

      Godspeed all; safe and sound.

      Love and Hugs, JB

      Dear Sandy,
Oh the joy of Hovis! He cracks me up, especially with his description of Mum having entered the gene pool whilst the lifeguard was distracted. LOL!
Thanks for giving us our weekly Hovis!
As for Derby picks and Oaks picks — I am currently clueless or maybe unfocussed is more accurate. Haven’t done too well narrowing the options as yet.
Happy healthy safe racing to all❣️

      Sandy,
      Thanks for Hovis.
I still don’t really have a Derby pick. Heart says Cyberknife as he was bred, born and raised by Ken and Sarah Ramsey just a few miles from My Kentucky Home! There are several who would make me glad if they won. Guess I will just throw a dart on Saturday morning!
Had a wonderful time in Ashville and at the Biltmore. Allergies are having a fun time now. But the scenery is beautiful.
Hope all of y’all are doing okay and have your Derby horses all picked out.

        Dear Shirlee:

Cyberknife is definitely a good choice. I’m still all over the place looking for a longshot. So far I’m liking Mo Donegal, Hidden Connection and Crown Pride. For the horses to play with them in Exactas, I like Zandon, Epicenter and Taiba. Can’t make up my mind.

        https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/258569/crown-pride-taiba-get-final-derby-sharpeners

I’m rooting for Secret Oath in the Oaks.

          Judy,
I like Secret Oath in the Oaks. Of course, got to put a plug in for Find, Curlin’s daughter. y’all know how I am about the Curlins. I like Zandon and Simplification. Of course, by tomorrow morning that probably will change.
Have a good day and good luck in the Oaks.

RIP Dortmund, beautiful boy. Sadly, Dortmund died from colic due to a twisted colon. He was only 10 years old and standing at Great Hill Farm in South Korea. Condolences to all connections. Run free with the angel band, gorgeous one. 😢

A young exercise rider, Callie Witt (20 years old), died from injuries sustained at Keeneland this morning when her mount stepped wrong, and she fell off. She was a rider for Joe Sharp and was aspiring to become a jockey. Condolences to all connections and family. This is so tragic. 💔

Both of these articles are on the Bloodhorse.com site. I didn’t have time to post the links yet.

    Dear Judy,
I’m thinking I should have been wearing Stetsons all these years. Mr. Lukas, for all his being outdoors, sure has a smooth complexion.
Pappacap did well to hold on to second after leading in the Pat Day Mile — I was pulling for him since he was one of my picks last year.

May everyone run safe and healthy in all races❣️

      Marshall,
Meow picked Charge It and Rich Strike. Mitzi picked Barber Road. Pulled numbers out of a hat mixed with catnip! As for me, I am going to stick with Cyberknife and Zandon. Pappacap tried his best. No shame in being second in a race like that.
Good luck to everyone and their picks. This could be another of those “Who?” Derbies!

        Shirlee,
I do like Charge It (love his color), and I hope Barber Road does well since he is named for a road here in NC where one of his owners grew up! Good picks by all three of you!
Yes, there certainly could be a surprise winner❣️

        Shirlee,
You were so right! This WAS another of those “Who?” Derbies. 🤪
What a race, and who would have thunk it!
I have to say I am really happy for the Rich Strike team. Epicenter and Zandon ran great, but there was a “dark horse” which is a chestnut!!
        Cheers❣️

Oh my stars!! SO Exciting! My heart-rate is still elevated.
What a Derby that was — let’s hear it for the underdogs! This was an incredibly amazing race. Tremendous CONGRATS to Rich Strike, Sonny Leon and all connections!!!!!!!!! A beautiful ride by Sonny Leon.
Sometimes the little guys win❣️ He didn’t like being with the pony after the race, but he didn’t really mind the roses around his neck too much.
Congrats to Epicenter, Zandon AND Simplification(a somewhat long-shot)!!
    🏇 🏇 🏇 🏇 🏇
Ah, the stuff dreams are made of!! 🥰 🎉 🥰

Dear Shirlee, Marshall and Z Fans:

What a Cinderella Story! Congrats to Rich Strick, jockey Leon, the owners and trainer of this beautiful Chestnut boy. He closed just like his Daddy, Keen Ice. Shirlee, he’s a grandson of your Curlin.

Nice efforts by Epicenter, Zandon, Simplification and Mo Donegal too. Hope everyone came back to the barn well and sound. Love and Hugs, JB
