Happy New Year Zenyatta Fans!
We hope everyone had a joyous holiday season filled with friends and family. As you may have noticed, Team Z took some time off to celebrate and to make plans for the coming year. We’ve been dreaming up blog features, new Zenyatta products, and eagerly anticipating the birth of Zenyatta’s third foal.
In the meantime, Zenyatta and 13Z have been greeting the winners of our Zenyatta.com Celebration drawing with enthusiasm. We’ll share Alys’ photos from these visits in a future blog post.
Before the holidays we asked you to show us how you’re using your Celebration Stickers. A few of our favorite submissions are below. Thanks Susan, Mary Ellen, Pam, and Cathleen for your photos!
We always welcome feedback from the fans. Send photos of your Zenyatta products in use or suggestions for the future to fans@zenyatta.com. We can’t reply to every email, but we do read everything!
We approach the new year with a sense of gratitude for this loving community. We’re excited to see what this year will bring, and we hope you are too!
-Team Z

Dear Barbara So sorry to hear of Diana’s loss.I very rarely see her posting these days. Will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs Sheena
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Yes, Sheena, she has had an ongoing eye problem (cataract/torn retina) that thankfully has been resolved, so maybe she will be here more in the future. Hope so. Hugs to you across the pond.

Dear Max Little Miss Tindall is already back in Gatcombe Park,Zara wanted a no fuss,no frills birth in an NHS hospital. Your explanation of the royal titles was spot-on! Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. There could also have been titles for these children if Mark Phillips had accepted one from The Queen on his marriage to Princess Anne aka The Princess Royal. He wanted to stay a commoner. I think that that decision is rather interesting and independent. Phillips is now living in Florida as an equestrian coach.
Miss Tindall may not be a princess or have a title, but she’s still a cousin to Bruce like the daughters of Peter Phillips. And she’s 16th in line to the throne. If she’s anything like her mom, granny and great grandmother, she will love horses.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max Of course Mark Phillips left his 2nd wife Sandy and set up home with American equestrian Lauren Hough, he also fathered another daughter while married to Princess Anne, she lives in New Zealand I think and is a vet. I remember there was a fuss when Earl Snowdon took a title at the time of his marriage to Princess Margaret Princess Anne was adamant there was to be no titles and her children were to be brought up as normally as possible. It seems she has succeeded Hugs Sheena

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Dear Zenyatta and all ; Jo is improving at our horse sanctuary as finally a diagnosis was made. She had foundered and does have laminitus. Lucky for us one of our volunteer’s husbands has been a farrier and shoer for over 30 years and volunteered to care for Jo on a twice a day basis. The vet wanted bute given and she needed to be padded and wrapped at her two front hooves. We are so grateful that he stepped forward as it is better to have one person giving this much needed attention, and then with such experience! This gentlemen Dave said he had seen much worse and he felt Jo did not have a bad case. However, we all know Jo is food obsessive and we just got to get her to lose some weight. If a horse is prone to foundering, generally because she/he has done so in the past, and is overweight, it is more likely this can happen again. (that is what he said to me) Otherwise all is well with the other horses, thank God.
I am proud of myself as the electrical circuit I chose to run an electrical cord to Jo’s heated water pail is still working; it has not tripped and failed!! Yippee Jo has been shut in her stall and left out recently only in the day. Jo would not have access to the large water trough outside like the others. I feel so good inside when I can help and do something right. (hah)
Goodnight all, Sally
Goodnight and sweet dreams Zenyatta

Dear Sally B:
I’m sorry to hear that Jo has laminitis, but thank God, the prognosis sounds good. Have read that keeping them from gaining too much weight does help. Will pray for her recovery. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Your talents continue to grow Sally! Don’t know a lot of volunteers who would delve into electrical issues, but what a good thing you’ve done for Jo. Don’t know anything about foundering and very little about laminitis, but I hope the special attention she’s getting will make her well.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Sally,
Do hope that Jo gets well soon. Will keep her in my prayers. St. Francis, please watch over her and keep her safe. Hugs

January 18 Cherokee Devotional
A certain amount of protection from the wind makes it pleasant to walk in the deep woods, even in January-Uno lv ta na. It is quieter and without the activity of other seasons, but the deer come daily to feed on acorns that litter the moss-covered earth. Timing is important, even though the Cherokee has been said to have a time of his own-arriving and leaving as he sees fit. But even nature gets ahead of herself or lags behind at times. Here in the dead of winter, a shaft of sunlight brings out tiny moth-like insects that dance straight up and down, going nowhere. Doing the right thing at the right time is all-important. We tend to get overanxious and want to push ahead when it is not the time nor the right thing to do. We are not programmed by nature but by Spirit, and from that comes the wisdom to stay or act.
I beseech you…by everything you hold sacred and dear, abandon this wild visionary and desperate undertaking and return to your village.

Muchie’s Classic is Racing Moment of the Year! Nearly caused me a heart attack, but what a race by 3 exceptional horses.
Safe trip to Muchie and Gary today. Some of you all with HRTV, if you can, please post the results. Comcast in Indianapolis only knows horsepower that is under the hood of an auto.

@Sally B–You electrical wizard, you! Congratulations on something I would not even dare to attempt, much less be able to accomplish! I know it is a good feeling to actually be able to help. My extent of helping seems to be handing over the hoof pick, brush, and carrots!
Will continue to pray for little Jo. It is encouraging that the farrier will be watching her without letup. It is puzzling to me that being overweight can cause laminitis, but the TBs (a group among whom it appears to be almost epidemic) are not overweight. I guess it’s the standing unevenly after injury that sets it in motion. We are grateful that Jo is in good hands, and that she received prompt attention. Hugs to you and to her (and the vet and farrier, too, for that matter!)

All Z’sters:
Don’t know if anyone posted this already, but Amanda Duckworth has written a tribute to St. Nicholas Abbey for ESPN. I do not know how to link you there directly, but if you google ESPN.com, click on the World Leader in Sports link, click on More Sports and then click on Horse Racing news, you can finally click on “Duckworth” in the listings.
It is a very heart-felt article and is absolutely worth reading.
Maybe someone on this site can post the direct link, yes?
Thanks and Hugs

This is such a sad time for me personally. Not only are we mourning his loss, but I am also mourning the loss of little Elsa, the horse found not too long ago, frozen into the ice and snow. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 4:30 this afternoon, Mountain time. RIP, sweet baby.
Love to all.

Thank you for posting the ESPN link to The Legacy of St. Nicholas Abbey.
I am so sorry about little Elsa, such an awful tragedy. I am so glad that she had loving people around her before she left this world. I know her dam, Anna, is in good hands now and will have the love that she deserves. RIP little Elsa, gone too soon.
