Happy Thursday!
Today we have a few new photos from Lane’s End. Alys has been spending time with Zenyatta and 12Z, capturing aspects of their daily routines. She sent us these two videos, each featuring a 360 degree view of Lane’s End!
Enjoy!

Just thinking….if z has a baby girl, that girl will in the future most likely be a broodmare. Perhaps z will see her daughter and maybe a grandchild or two. I’m sure she will recognize her children.

Dear Kathy R,
Great summary of British racing for the year.
One of the most amazing things about Frankel is the fact he was a chamipion at
2, 3 and 4 years old. Something few horses are able to do, at least not in the US.
Delrene in Carlsbad, Ca
In the very first picture of our beautiful Zenyatta ( the one with her tongue sticking out) what is that around her left eye? Its that a piece of mud or dirt she picked up? I see it in two pictures. The one after the two videos. Just wondering.
Thank you so much for all the news of Z and baby Z.
Merry Christmas to all

Yes, our Zenny is enjoying her mud baths so much that she kicked some mud

Reactions among Australian sports fans were mixed last week when the Daily Telegraph named Black Caviar ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ over Olympic gold medalist Sally Pearson. Daily Telegraph writers Phil Rothfield responded to criticism, saying, “Caviar is a girl and new Phar Lap. She stopped a nation.”Opponents claim the choice was sexist and “utterly embarrassing”.

Carlton House, the Group winner in England owned by Queen Elizabeth II, is due to arrive Monday in Australia, where he’ll begin his racing career anew.
Carlton House, who finished sixth in the Hong Kong Cup three weeks ago for trainer Sir Michael Stoute, will be trained by Gai Waterhouse in Sydney.
“Carlton House looks the perfect candidate to race in Australia where there are a considerable number of options for an older horse,” the Queen’s bloodstock adviser John Warren said of the 4-year-old.

PAULICK REPORT: BIGGEST INTRIGUES FOR 2013

WEST: WHO INTRIGUES FOR 2013?
by Paulick Report Staff | 12.23.2012 | 9:25am
At ESPN.com, Gary West has compiled his list of potential horse racing stars for the coming year. His top ten includes such familiar names as potential 3-year-old filly champion My Miss Aurelia, 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, and likely juvenile Eclipse champion Shanghai Bobby. But topping the list is another 2-year-old:
“1. Flashback: I’ve compiled information on hundreds of juveniles and seen hundreds more this year, and in terms of potential he’s the most impressive and promising youngster I’ve come across. A half-brother to the outstanding filly Zazu, the gray colt recently won his debut at Hollywood Park in flashy style for trainer Bob Baffert. That was at seven-eighths of a mile, a tough and demanding distance for a debut, and he looked like he can get only better when he stretches out.”

I must give myself permission to read the posts more often. I have missed out on so much lately with just being busy. This is a lovely site to enjoy with all our virtual, friendly, supportive ,loyal fans of Zenyatta and all things Zenyatta.
Many pages to catch up with…..
The Bud horses are so amazing. Love their videos.

Dear Delrene,
It is hard to keep up when one is working etc…..
Glad you are back before the holidays.
Have a great Christmas.

It’s so hard to think of Zenyatta as a “broodmare.” I just love her so much. I just hope she’s happy in her new role. I pray that she has an easy birth of the new little one. God Bless them both. And God Bless 12Z.
suew/Va
I understand your thoughts about Z being a broodmare. It took me a while to get used to the idea, too, but she seems to love her new role and is very good at it! When you think of a racehorse, that life really isn’t all that attractive. ..always tied to a handlers lead and living in a very confined space with a strict routine. Now our Zenny really can be a horse, enjoying open pastures, the love of her caretakers and motherhood, which just comes natural to her. She has the best owners in the world and lives in a place which is out of a storybook. Zenny continues to be my horse of a lifetime and I feel genuinely blessed to know her and be a member of this awesome site.
Merry Christmas!

@Sign and others with similar thoughts. I also think it is possible that someday Z will be reunited with some of her offspring, if only for a quick photo op. I recall seeing something like that for another famous thoroughbred family (just can’t remember who it was). Also, why not put a maiden mare in the same field with an experienced broodmare like Z…and what if they just happened to be mother and daughter?
Signofthetimes
Love that thought ; a maiden mare with her mother !!!

The family you were thinking of was that of Personal Ensign.
The picture was taken in 2006 at Claiborne Farm where the Phipp’s
family kept and bred their horses. The picture had Personal Ensign
and her daughter My Flag and My Flag’s daughter Storm Flag
Flying.
It was taken by Barbara Livingston and is unique in that they
represented three consecutive female generations to win
Breeder’s Cup races. Personal Ensign in the Distaff, and the other two
in the Juveniles Fillies.
It is a great picture.

Dear Janet,
Thanks so much for sharing that information about Personal
Ensign, My Flag and Storm Flag Flying. I have watched the BC
in which Storm Flag Flying wins the race her mother and grandmother
won and it was so very special to hear the announcer say those special words.
And to here they are together at Claibourne Farm is very special.
Zenny may get to spend sometime with her daughters. The Mosses
are such very special people, that truly is a possibility.

Personal Ensign was one of the best of all time. Retired undefeated. Her final race in the BC Ladies Classic was one for the ages.

Yes, Sign I could definately see a Photo Op for Zenny’s family in the future. Will so hope for this. The thought of her never seeing Z again is just . Well I don’t even want to think about that. And her other offspring.

Dear Z- family–Just taking a moment of quiet reflection, thinking about how very fortunate we all are to have each other as extended family. A few years ago, I was floundering around, wondering what to do with myself in my post-retirement years. We used to be so busy all the time, that it is hard to just be retired. Well, it turned out that the horse I didn’t want our daughter to buy is the one who has indirectly given me my golden years’ purpose in life. Through him, I came back to racing, met Zenyatta (and all of you!), and that in turn led me to work for equine welfare. I feel I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing. It is an honor and a privilege to know you. Just goes to show we never know what lies around the bend. I never would have dreamed it would be possible to feel so close to so many from all 50 states.
We will never take Lane’s end or Team Z. for granted, and I’m wishing you all the very merriest of Christmases, Happy Holidays, and the very best in 2013. Love you all.

Dear friends of Zenyatta: I’m having a hard time putting into words just how I’m feeling at the moment. As Barbara said, because we are all so close, we forget how far we are in distance – and I’m a long way from the USA. But this is a magical time of hope and renewal (and the beautiful Zenyatta will certainly know about that). I’m really, really blessed to have found this site, and to have come to know and care very much about so many of you. I wish to send holiday greetings to all my friends and anyone else who posts on this blog. We are, indeed, family. I will sign off with some seasonal redneck jokes. You might be a redneck if nothing under your Christmas tree is paid for. You might be a redneck if you do your Christmas shopping at storage auctions. You might be a redneck if you really do ask Santa for your two front teeth, You might be a redneck if the cops stake out the front of your house on Christmas morning so they can arrest most of your family at one time. You might be a redneck if your outdoor lights are bug zappers.

Terry, thanks for the holiday greetings, and Redneck humor. I still need to take time to work on my own new RN post. Oh, I just thought of one told me by a relative only yesterday:
You might be a Redneck relative, if your Christmas evening meal plans entail you and your wife going on down to Carl’s Jr. for their big plain burger. And you’re excited because it’s such a great deal, and no one says anything to you, about bringing your own lettuce, tomato and mustard for the burger. And you mention that in the summertime, it’s an even better deal, because you can sit there as long as you want in the hot afternoon, and enjoy their air-conditioning.
A very Merry Christmas to you all.
