Happy Wednesday! Here’s a brand new set of photos from Alys. Zenyatta’s War Front filly is pictured in many of these photos with her paddock mate, a colt out of Life is Sweet.
It’s always a day maker, a Z update. Z14 is lovely, and such interesting markings on her Bff’s face! I’d be interested in hearing what makes for such wonderful markings.
Actually it looks like he’s greying out. Since there is no such thing as roan in thoroughbred’s (the gene doesn’t exist) Since his sire is Tapit he’s simply greying out like his sire.
Andrea Klassen
Actually, grays can have red tinges to them (ergo Red Roan) and blue tinges (blue roan). Yes, they are called GRAYS in the thoroughbred world but this guy looks like he’ll have the red tinge.
Bronwyn
A roan is actually a completely different genetic make-up than a gray.
NRD
Correct… a roan is not a grey. Life is Sweet’s Coat is going gray.
It looks to me like they shaved his face to see what was underneath. I sure wouldn’t expect the little guy to completely grey out this early. Either way, he’s a cutie!
As for roan – the gene doesn’t exist in TBs, however a grey which started out chestnut (as LIS’s baby) will often be called “red roan” as the greying process starts, and a grey from a black or bay will often be called a “blue roan”. With Tapit being a grey that started out as a chestnut baby, we know he carries the red (chestnut) gene so can sire chestnuts from mares with that gene, bays from mares with that gene, and foals that can become grey regardless of how they start out. Someone let me know, but I have yet to find a bay offspring from a chestnut mare (which would show Tapit to be heterozygous for red/bay). He has so many offspring now it’s hard to wade through Equibase to find one.
As for Z Princess, she came into the world at a whopping 151 pounds – she was “big for her age” before her hooves hit the ground LOL!
Love these baby pictures! Thank you LE Team and Team Z for continuing to make our day by sharing them. Wish I could jump through the computer to hug and kiss them! Baby horsie slobbers to all!

He’s a Tapit. Some of them gray out very early. There’s a picture of Hansen, still young enough to be at his mother’s side, in which he is white except for his mane, which is orange.
Mary, I’m with you. We’ve had great updates on Coz and the filly but total silence on Ziconic. What’s up? He should be beginning his training now in KY.
Princess is so TALL! And it’s so appropriate, given that she was born on Easter Sunday, that Princess has DEFINTELY inherited Zennie’s bunny ears! She’s such a beauty! And I can see from the pictures that Princess is the boss in her friendship with Life Is Sweet’s colt. He defers to her! It looks like he’ll be a gray like his daddy, Tapit.
Thank you so much for sharing, back in calif. no chance of seeing these beautiful children of Qeen Z, I just call new baby , Z-Girle girl, just my name for her, Thank you again Mr. & mrs. Moss for all the pictures and being so caring, Take Care.
Too wild. Baby Z14 has a facial mark almost a combination of her mother and Rachel Alexandra (almost:) and the boy has what looks like a badger face marking though maybe it will all disappear as he grows older and greys. I never knew of a “badger” marking until the Peter Stone company featured it for their model horses. Then people posted pictures of it and here it looks like this LIS boy has something similar.
How darling! Too, too cute! Mama’s ears, for sure. ;) And her BFF is a handsome one!
Thanks for the wonderful photos, Alys and Team Z. They do make me smile. :)
Blessings to all in the Land of Zen!
Peace,
Kathy from SoCal xoxoxoxo
Always a treat, making smiles seeing Z’s babies. Z Princess has grown some since last photo and they look so content together. Love seeing her under Z’s neck while mom’s getting some water. Zenyatta is such a great mom!
Can’t miss the family ears! Just love em!
What’s Zi doing these days? We haven’t seen him in awhile. Love to see the boy and the princess in actions. Please can we have some vids? Pulleeeez.
Thank you Alys for these fine pictures.
Can’t wait for update on that Coz and how he is coming along at the big boy track.
Love you Zenyatta and your wonderful babies.
Definitely Princess Z has Tapit’s colt following her lead. She’ll be “Queen” soon enough to all those boys! I so love she looks like her mommy. Now if only she starts dancing like her…. ;) Thank you so much for the wonderful updates!!! They make my week….
Wow, Z and LIS best buddies, and now their babies. They look so cute together. Looks like PRINCE LIS might be a gray. I like his face and eyes, but I think it will change…we’ll see.
Ms. Zenyatta, such a beautiful, Big girl you have. I miss you so, and am anxious to hear all about CoZZy,
Els
I think her best buddy is going to turn into a grey :)

Who is the chestnut with the big blaze? Pedigree?
Deb E.
That is Zennie’s BFF’s Life is Sweet’s colt by Tapit. It looks like he’s going to be the same gray as his dad!
Andrea Klassen
Looks like she has a BFF…
Stephanie
Is it just me or is she quite big for her age??
Deborah Pesa
Who is her friend? That’s a cool blaze on her face.

She is shedding out. She’s obviously a red roan and she’s now losing her baby fuzz.
Susan Campbell
Has there always been red roan thoroughbreds? Looks like she has pink skin on her eye. Am I seeing that correctly?
NRD
She’s a bay. Roan is extremely rare in thoroughbreds.
NRD
Excuse me, I misspoke… thought you were talking about Z’s filly, who is bay. The Life is Sweet colt is going gray.

I think he is just greying out like his sire, not a red roan. :)
