Happy Monday!
We’re happy to share a few new photos of Coz in training. The folks at Mayberry Farm call him handsome, personable, and lovely to be around! He’s pictured here with his rider Ronaldo, who has been at Mayberry Farm since Zenyatta’s training. His kitty friend, Daisy, is shown perched at her regular spot above Coz’s stall.
When we recently asked for feedback and suggestions concerning the Zenyatta Shop, we received such a wonderful response. Thank you! It’s going to be a fun year with new product releases down the line.
Last but not least, at the bottom of this post you’ll find a special note from Ann Moss. She wanted to share a very sweet moment with all of you. Enjoy!
The last time I had seen Coz he was running around in his own paddock showing off for us and his buddies in the paddocks next to him. A very happy young man. This is the first time I had seen him since he started on his new life with Jeannie Mayberry, getting ready for what he was born to do… race. His racing career had begun. Jeannie had given him the same as his Mother: the last stall where he has perfect view of the whole barn and even the training track. Made me weep with joy (which I’ve been known to do smile) to see him standing there as he let me kiss his sweet nose, this big boy already grand and majestic receiving his saddle and his rider and proudly doing his lessons.
Later in the day standing in a gentle mist visiting with Zenny, I suddenly felt inclined to show her the video I had just taken earlier of her boy and knew how proud she would be of him, of how well he was doing with all his lessons and how Jeannie had said he was so smart and kind and how wonderfully he moves… She suddenly started her dance and tossing her head and turning her head to look at my iPhone! She totally knew she was watching her son Cozmic One and she was very proud. She especially liked the video of him getting his bath and she literally licked my phone! Reminding me yet again how I have to pick up my conversation with her. That she totally gets and understands All. Of course she and I have had many chats on the phone over the years and he’s always been around nosing in on our conversations, so it totally makes sense but still stunned me as well. So I wanted to share these constantly amazing Beings with YouS :) and say again Thanks! for all the Good Thoughts Well Being and Love YouS send to Them =)

Another article about Huaso, on the occasion Feb. 5 of the 65th anniversary of his 1949 world-record jump. At the end, it has a link to the best video I’ve seen of his legendary jump.

Dear Vicki B.,
Huaso/Faithful was incredible! Such a jumper — take-off is almost vertical by necessity and the way he collects himself upon landing is unbelievable. Wow!!
Thanks for this link.

Wow! thanks Vicki – that was amazing! As Marshall said – the almost vertical take-off really grabs your attention after thinking he can’t possibly do this!

Marshall, Judy & Sandy, you’re all welcome. I was blown away by that vertical jump, how all four hooves come together just before he propels himself skyward, and then… on the other side. Was so glad they replayed it 3 times!

Judy-Thanks for posting this. I had the pleasure of seeing Doctor Fager run at Hollywood Park in the 60s and it was something I will never forget. Would have loved to see a match race between Doctor Fager and Native Diver. Unfortunately, the Diver died of colic before this could ever happen.

Dear Celeste, Ann and TC GP:
You’re so welcome. Wow TC, you got to see the great Dr. Fager. That match up would have been very exciting; sad ND passed away so suddenly. Here’s a link on Native Diver. Love and Hugs, JB
http://www.secondrunning.com/NativeDiver.htm
Terry Crow
Judy-He ran in one race out here, the Californian Handicap. When Nerud discovered that Doctor Fager would be required to carry more weight than he had thought, he still agreed to run him in the race. I am glad I had a chance to see him in action. Thanks also for the link on Native Diver. I thought he was my once in a lifetime horse before Z came along.
Terry Crow
Just to add to the link. I, too, was present the day Native Diver went head to head with Viking Spirit for the whole seven furlong race at HP. It seems funny to think of it now, but before he won his first Gold Cup nobody thought he could go a distance and win. He just got better with age and probably would have been winning stakes races at 9. Never to be forgotten by those who saw him run live. Anybody out there who is interested can go to you tube and see some of his best.

It is interesting to see someone take one little idea and make it grow into something that benefits many people. Could it be that an idea hangs before us like a worm in a chrysalis that is able to emerge as a beautiful ka ma ma-butterfly? When we reach for the stars we should remember that we are rooted and grounded in little things. The basis for success that lasts is the knowledge that slow and careful construction cannot be toppled by fickle and fast-moving tastes. So much is made to be temporary-the fas-moving fads-and people jump aboard to ride them for the duration. In the process the ka ma ma is crushed before it ever develops, and the pupa-idea must begin all over again. But it remembers its beginnings, its basic purpose.
I may be forced to adopt a new way of life, but my heart and spirit spring from the red earth.

Dear Sheena,
I’m truly sorry for all those horses at Newbury. Boo and Buddy do look adorable in their rain boots. My question is how do they stay on their feet??? I hope Joey stays toasty inside. Zoey continues to be a beauty queen. I did see that poem and it is so totally true. Ray has on his Happy Birthday hat. Looking cute! I hope you have a delightful weekend. On this day in 1983 our beloved Shergar was cruelly snatched from his stable at Ballymany Stud, most probably by the IRA,.and then brutally murdered.A kind gentle soul such as he should never have had to die slipping and sliding in his own blood. They say he was buried in the mountains at Ballinamore known as “Bandit Country” in those days. These evil men will be judged by a far greater power one day, until then we ALWAYS remember.RIPSheena

Poor Shergar. I thought that the only known fact about Shergar’s disappearance was that he vanished without trace. Do we know for sure that he was treated in that way? I hate to think that he or any horse suffered like that.

Havre de Grace, Plum Pretty Produce Foals
By Blood-Horse Staff February 8, 2014 12:28 PM
Whisper Hill Farm’s Havre de Grace and Plum Pretty both produced their first foals at Timber Town Farm near Lexington.
According to Wayne Sweezey, who owns Timber Town with his wife, Cathy, both foalings went smoothly.
Eclipse champion and 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, a daughter of Saint Liam out of the Carson City mare Easter Bunnette, delivered a filly by Tapit just after midnight on Feb. 7.
Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner Plum Pretty, a daughter of Medaglia d’Oro out fo the A.P. Indy mare Liszy, foaled the night before, producing a colt by Distorted Humor on Feb. 6.
“Both foals were large, and I’m happy to say that they are both beautifully made,” Sweezey said. “The mares foaled without any problems, and Mandy Pope is over the moon.”

Good afternoon, all–have to come up for a bit of air after being immersed in the reading of “Wild Ride”, concerning the death of Alydar and the rise and fall of Calumet Farm. It is inconceivable how so many people could be so blinded by greed. As I was doing extra research, I found an entire thread on the Forum devoted to this topic. Need to take a few deep breaths.
