Happy Wednesday!
We’re quite excited about the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Zenyatta Celebration. Have you purchased your tickets yet?
Alys sent us a great new batch of photos of 12Z of the boys having fun, so we thought we’d share them with all of you.
Team Z is headed to Lane’s End, so we’ll be posting more photos and fun updates in the coming days. As of today, we’re also on Instagram! Follow us (@teamzenyatta) for updates throughout our trip. Even if you don’t use Instagram, you can see every photo we post through our Twitter feed. Our most recents tweets are always on the right side of the blog.
Enjoy!

THANK YOU TO LANES END FOR THE PHOTOS. THEY ARE AWESOME!!! Z12 IS A HANDSOME YOUNG MAN. HE LOVES PLAYING AROUND WITH HIS FRIENDS. YOU CAN`T MISS THOSE “ZENYATTA” EARS.. HE`S A DOLL. HIS CHESTNUT FRIEND IS GORGEOUS. WEANLING TIME IS DEFINATELY DIFFICULT BUT PART OF GROWING UP AND DIFFERENT STAGES OF LIFE. I`M SURE ZENNY WILL BE LOOKING FOR HIM AND VICE VERSA AT FIRST. THEY WILL BOTH ACCLAMATE WELL. ANN IS ANOTHER STORY. I CAN ONLY SAY TO HER,TAKE IT EASY,STAY WELL, AND ENJOY THE RIDE. THE NEXT ONE IS ON ITS WAY. LOVE YOU ZENNY AND ALWAYS TALK ABOUT YOU AND ALWAYS MISS SEEING YOU RACE. THERE`S ONLY “ONE” ZENYATTA AND THAT`S A TREASURE TO ALWAYS HAVE….LOTS OF BIG HUGS AND KISSES TO ALL…ALENE…PS. ESPECIALLY TO “ZENNY”

These pictures of the “boys”
are terrific. The Prince has a very handsome playmate too. Would be fun to know his royal lineage. Thank you Lane’s End for keeping us in his and his Mom’s life.
Yes, I have my tickets for the Zenyatta buffet dinner. Would not miss it for the world.
Hope to see lots of Zenyatta friends and fans.

Love seeing the horses at play. Z12 looks good and so much like his Mom. Glad to see his spirit and will be looking forward to seeing him race one day. The prince is our big hope for the future. I hope he will be Zenyatta’s big star. Thank you so much for the pictures and my love goes out to Zenyatta who remains in my heart daily.

Alert to my fantasy capping racers. We will get the official entries later today in the afternoon. We will begin selecting the next winner. TC tips? I see Bernie has a son in this upcoming race.

Dear Sue:
Just checked on Bernie’s boy, Crossbow, in the FSD. He gets in only if the race is run on the Main Track. Guess he’s not a Turfer. Back to the drawing board. Hugs, JB

It’s raining in NY so the race may go on the main track. Stay tuned.
Ann
I hope it is on the turf. Stay away rain.
Any news of the weekend weather for Saratoga?

I am holding off on my selection to see what happens. Remember we have until 10 minutes prior to the race. Good luck all

Dear Ann, TC, Sue and Z Fans:
Weather report for Saratoga calling for possible showers Friday and Saturday. Doesn’t sound like much of a threat to take the race off the turf. We’ll have to wait and see. Hugs, JB
Ann
Thanks for the report Judy.I will go w/ a turf pick.
Sue FL, Thanks for the time reminder, will be busy, so I will just have to hope my pick will stick for the turf.

How precious!!! They are getting so big and they sure do think they are big stuff – lol!! Thank you so much for sharing the photos of 12Z and his buddy. It is such a treat to watch him growing up and gaining his strength and developing his personality. I feel so blessed that Team Z is so generous and kind to let us into the life of our Queen, Zenyatta, and her charming prince. Thank you!!
Mary
Love the pics!!!!! Thanks for posting :)

What great ears in the 2nd pic!! LOL, almost makes him look like a mule. :) He’s really growing up, though!

What a cutie. Oversized ears for a colt………..those are filly ears.

Thank you, Team Z, for the new photos of ‘The Boys of Summer”.
Like how you lined them up,from playing and finally calm grazing, whew!
Pati…hope you are feeling better.
Anne…Make Garfield proud and head to the buffet first! Enjoy your time on the big boat.
TC….your lyrics are what summer is all about! When summer rolls around,my old camp songs never leave my head. Mr. Mac and Skipper always ran a tight ship at camp and everyone sang silly songs!
Skipper fell down in a bucket, the bucket fell down in the well, we cut the rope to the bucket and Skipper went down into……….ting a ling fa lalala, sweet are the voices we hear from afar.
OMG! Imagine a group of kids singing this! HA!!!!
Cappers…good luck, nice race coming up. I have no clue?????Data Link looks good?
Terry Crow GP
I can hear the voices now. Thanks, Ann.

Thank you lots. I’m getting there.

Good morning and hello from Montreal to Delrene, Judy Berube, Celeste, signofthetimes, Sue FI, Shari, Laura J., Barbara Wood, Sue + Tony, Keta & Ann Maree, as well as all other Dumplings present!
Good morning Zenny & Baby Z. Those ears! Funny thing but my Daisy has the same ears….some days, I look at her and think of you, Baby Z. You look so happy frolicking with your buddies and I LOVE the title of this blog! Thank you, Alys & Lane’s End for the great photos and note. Like some of you, methinks Team Z’s arrival is to ease weaning for Zenny and her first born….sigh. They do, indeed, grow up too fast.
I’ve been working hard on a new piece for THE VAULT and have one up on Saratoga, which proved a fascinating topic. The aim for the unpublished piece is to get it up by tonight. As the women’s Olympic soccer has concluded with “our girls” winning the bronze, I think I’ll meet the deadline! Delighted for them. Losing to TEAM USA was such a heartbreaker. But I’m tuning in later today to support our American cousins as they play Japan for GOLD. GO USA GO!!!!
Love & hugs to all
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
So glad to hear from you Abigal and looking forward to the piece on Saratoga.
GS,
Have you found THE VAULT website, there are so many wonderful articles about people, horses etc in racing and of course the new one on Saratoga.
GirlSaratoga
Hi Sign:
No haven’t found that website yet??? Is that the name of it “THE VAULT” sounds like something I would definitely be interested in! Don’t think the weather is going to be very good tomorrow, they are saying storms for the next 48 hrs! They had some really bad weather in Cooperstown NY yest and last nite which is about an hour away from Saratoga!
Let me know about this site, Thanks!

Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro win first ever Olympic Dressage individual gold
for Team GB (90.089%)
Congratulations to Charlotte on a beautiful ride!
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Keta,
Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro were absolute perfection — even that little transition bump was balanced out by the beauty and accuracy of the program. I am so glad that they got the gold and that Laura Bechtolsheimer(sp?) and her horse finished in the medals, too. YAY, Great Britain!!!
Today’s freestyle competition was truly breathtaking! It blows me away to see these gorgeous horses responding to the unseen signals of their riders AND in sync with the music! The choice of music is very crucial to the overall “ballet”, it seems.
Take care and hugs!

Absolutely love the photos of Z12 and his buddy. Thank you Team Z for allowing us to share in this incredible journey with the Queen.

Here is a trivia question for those of you who like trivia and have the patience to search for answers.
What on-air horse racing analyst (TVG or HRTV) has a connection to two thoroughbred race horses (not current horses), one named Wandering Herbie and the other named Zip Pocket and what is that connection?
Terry Crow GP
I remember Zip Pocket as a very fast horse who ran mostly at Turf Paradise. I must admit I am not familiar with Wandering Herbie. Good trivia question.
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
Extremely fast horse – held some track records at TP. Do you know the connection to one of the TV analysts? Zip Pocket and Wandering Herbie share a connection.
Terry Crow GP
Well, it’s probably a jockey so I’ll guess Gary Stevens. THis is a very good trivia question. I always try to answer them without looking anything up.
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
Not a jockey. Additional hint – it’s a host on HRTV.
Pati- Miserably Sick
Jeff Siegal? (sp?)
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
Dear Pati (hope you’re better soon) – Not Jeff (I don’t know how to spell his last name either) but I am sure he knows the answer, as does probably Gary Stephens, who was TC GPB’s guess.
Another hint – Zip Pocket and Wandering Herbie had the same trainer.
Pati- Miserably Sick
Simon Bray? (sp?) LOL
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
Pati – no, not Simon.
Another hint – the HRTV host is related to the trainer of Zip Pocket and Wandering Herbie.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Is it Joann Jones ????
Her father is Dr. Jones a trainer
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
Also could be Gary Mandella,
Richard Mandella son, both are trainers.
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
Not Gary or Richard Mandella but “Richard” is closer than you think (this is a very, very indirect hint). A direct hint is that the HRTV host recently became the parent of a little girl.
Eveline / Maryland.
Scott Hazelton? His father Richard is a trainer.
Rosemary McCauley - Pres/AZ/New Mexico RNC
Eveline/Maryland You are right, it is Scott Hazelton’s father Richard who is the trainer of Zip Pocket and Wandering Herbie. Richard Hazelton has been described by many as a trainer having few, if any peers. He held training titles at Arlington many, many times over the years.
Eveline, if you care to share your address with me at my email address, cujofrib@juno.com I will send you a prize.
There were some very good guesses and for being such good sports, if anyone who guessed would like to receive a prize, send me your address to my email and I will mail them tomorrow.
No worries – the stalker charges were dropped by the sheriff long ago.

These are so beautiful, thank you all at Lane’s End for these fantastic pictures.
Does anyone know who the little boy is kissing the Prinz? He is a beauty as well.
Please, keep them coming and the Big Mama too. Does this mean that the weaning process is complete, or does mom & son still share the evenings together?

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
What a great collection of pictures!! Prince and his buddies look like they are having SO much fun. Thanks so much to Alys and everyone on Team Z. We will be looking forward to more (and hopefully some of Zenny as well) when you visit Lane’s End.
I posted the question on page 1, but in case peeps aren’t going back . . . the colt in the 4th picture down (SM’s colt?) has been referred to as grey. I’m not seeing it – you horse experts must know where to look so how about a hint? Still wish we knew who the other colt was.
The dressage finals today were on MSNBC so I got to see some of the rides (only the last group by the time I realized it was on). What about the tails on those horses??? Do they use “hair extensions” (ha, ha). Seriously, they look so different from what I’ve seen on the race horses.
Hang in there Zenny! The consensus seems to be that weaning is at hand. Your mom and dad are coming to help you get through this, and all of us are sending lots of love!
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
It’s subtle. In Picture #4 above, look at his back legs. You’ll see that they look dusted in powder. On the “Watch Baby Z Grow” gallery, he is in two pictures. In the first, you can see the graying on his midsection. In picture #3 (red-trimmed fly mask), you can see some lightening on his face, especially his nose, and around the eyes. If you zoom in on this picture, the light areas around the eyes are more obvious. You can also see all three boys in the “Kicking off a Big Week” blog post. Again, you can see the faint graying of the body, like he has gotten dusty.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Laura! I never would have noticed this without some guidance (and I guess I thought that WAS dust on his legs :-). Is this always the way it happens with horses who wind up being gray or do some of them arrive gray in the first place?
Terry Crow GP
It does look like a good time was being had by all.

Here is a link on the wonderful Four Star Dave. Of 100 starts he finished first 21 times (9 of those wins at the Spa), second 18 times and third 16 times; earning $1,636,737. There are other links as well on this page with more info on him. He was one of my favorites at Saratoga. Hugs, JB
