Happy Friday!
As you all know, Zenyatta delivered her first filly on Easter Sunday. She was born at 12:03 am, weighing in at 151 lbs! Zenyatta’s lifetime friend and current paddock mate, Life Is Sweet, delivered an adorable colt not an hour before, just as across the aisle from Zenyatta.
Earlier this month we held a contest asking fans to guess 14Z’s birthday, and we received over 2,500 entries. As usual, we couldn’t pick just one winner! Serena Riecken of Ashland, Nebraska is the official winner, guessing April 19 at 11:53 pm. Don Krueger entered April 20 at 12:04 am. He went over by just one minute, so we think he’s a winner too.
Serena and Don will each receive an 11″ x 14″ print of the above photo signed by the photographer and Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. If you would like to order a print of this image for yourself, it is now available here at the Zenyatta Shop.
In the coming days we will share more images from the night of the foaling, our trip, and Zenyatta with her darling filly. For now, we’ll leave you with just a few new photos.
Enjoy!

Such a lovely little girl, and a sweet Easter present.

I love her unique blaze. To me it looks like a bird
gazing to the right, with the tail going down
towards her nose. She is so adorable!

Peggy,
As you know, I so agree about Indy…….he’s my man too! I was so disappointed when Honor Code got injured and was out of the Derby, but I hope Chrome or Ring run well. I too want to get back to see Indy before something happens to him, last time I got to hug and kiss him. He’s a grand old man. hugs

Incredible pictures! She is just adorable and she seems tall to me. Maybe she will be as tall as mom. Zenyatta is simply the best mother.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
So nice to see you posting again, Paula! Love and hugZ, Trina
Sharyn
She is just the sweetest – just like her Mom!!
Linda Parker-Fedak
What beautiful pictures! Love her “stance”. Almost like being in a horse show when horses are stacked for judging! She knows she is special! Can’t wait to see how she developes! Love her and her mommy so much! And her boys, too!
pamhomeier
I agree Linda! It looks like someone went out and stacked her! She’s a natural!
Arieschild
Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures of Z and her Princess!!
Christa Murray
I have this little feeling that, even though I love her big brothers, she’s gonna give them a run for their money!! Fillies rule!

Love seeing Zenyatta and her little girl – who looks like all legs, wonderful rear engine and fabulous shoulder angle. Worried about Zenyatta though. To me she simply looks tired this time around. Happy to be a mom but very very tired. Three in three years – know this is what is done but…….Zenyatta is the Queen who has proven herself and needs to be and remain the Queen and not just any broodmare.
Neva
I think Zenyatta looks great.
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
Don’t worry about Zenyatta. You can’t judge by a photo. She gets the absolute best care that money can buy, and tons of love besides. Three foals in three years is nothing for a healthy mare. If she ever needs a break for physical reasons, her body will take one and/or her vets will give her one. And eventually she’ll get one to reset her foaling schedule so that her foals won’t be born to late in the year. She is not just any broodmare, but she is a broodmare nonetheless. That’s her job now and one she clearly loves.

@Sally B.–thanks so much for the encouraging reports on Sir and Jo. Big Z hugs.

Dear Max, Sheena and Z Fans:
Was looking for a photo of War Front as a foal and found this wonderful picture of Danedream and her Frankel filly. This little beauty has a very unique blaze and stripe. No luck yet finding photo of WF as a foal. Love and Hugs, JB

JudyB. I think that’s the first close up that I’ve seen of Danedream. Most of the photos are of her winning races. Thanks for finding it. Agree about the blaze on the little one.

Dear Max:
It is so difficult to find photos of the mares that we love so much. Much easier to access photos of the stallions. Having the connection to Z and her babies through this Blog is just a blessing. Love and Hugs, JB
Bev Winters
What a beautiful filly. So happy to see these new pictures. Thank you Team Z for posting. Can’t wait to see if she will be as dark as her mother when she sheds her baby fuzz. The dark color around her eyes is a good clue. Very unique blaze. She has presence already. Good job Zenyatta.
Charley Wilson
My favorite horse ever. I hope the 2 babies are as fast
she should have been undefeated.
Carla
Wow, she is beautiful and very muscular. Especially shoulder and rump. :) Looks like she will be tall like her mom. I also agree, she might give her brothers a run for their money. :)
Shirley Donoho
What a gorgeous face our new filly Z has. So happy for mommy and baby. Please don’t breed Zenyatta any more. I’m afraid for her or for any new offspring. She deserves a happy, peaceful retirement. She has earned it!

Dear Sally B.,
So happy that Sir is out of the crosshairs for now and is feeling good, too. I do hope he will be safe. Thanks to you for all the loving care you give them. Big Hugs

VickiS.
She has the most beautiful eyes! There’s something special in them.
Donna H
Our princess is absolutely gorgeous beyond words! She seems very tall. Maybe she’ll be a big girl like her mama. There’s that special look on her face that just charms you and she looks so intelligent. We love the whole Zenny family and the Mosses, too.
Thanks for the word on Life is Sweet. I remember the youtube picture of her not wanting to wake up in her stall and John telling her they were going to close the track.
Elizabeth in Oregon
Thank-you for the wonderful new pictures of the Queen and her little Princess. What a lovely filly! She looks so confident and mature for her young age!
Hugs always to the incomparable Zenyatta!
Francine Iuliucci
What a little beauty! Zenyatta is such a good mother!! Loves being a mommy!!! Hope all her babies stay safe and love to run like their parents!!! Thank you for the pictures!!!

Dear Judy. Thanks for the photo of Danedream and Frankel filly.Beautiful mum and daughter.Frankel seems to have stamped his authority on all his foals so far. It’s 3yrs to the day since his amazing 2000 guineas win!!Oh, the memories!!Love and hugs Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Just learned that Wylie has retired Tidal Bay. I liked TB because he could not be led. He was his own horse and when left to his own judgment, he always got the job done. Apparently, he is going to a good home for his retirement.

Dear Sheena:
You’re so welcome. Yes, I’ve noticed that too; a lot of his foals are very “Frankel”. Love and Hugs, JB

April 26 Cherokee Devotional
Negative thinking is a habit that can be changed-if we really want to change it. It is too often like pressing on a sore spot just one more time to see if it still hurts. Most people’s problems are found in areas of need-the need to have difficulty, the need to have something to deal with so they can feel needed and important. After all, what do we do when no one is depending on us? It is an innate Cherokee belief that we have no need to borrow trouble, a to li s di, no proclivity toward trouble. Let it stay where it is-or dissolve. If difficulty engages our eye, it may come to us. We can know happy things to fill our time. It is fatal not to want happiness and well-being enough that we invite it into daily living.
Though we are powerful and strong, and we know how to fight, we do not wish to fight.

What a treat to find these new photos. This little girl is so pretty and seems to be liking the camera. Do we perhaps have another chestnut?
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
No, she’s bay. Note the black mane and tail. Chestnuts have red manes and tails. Her daddy War Front does not sire chestnuts.
shirleeinindy
Yeah, wish I had hair the color of her brother’s mane. The gray would sort of blend in.
Safe trip to Spot today in the Derby Trial.
