Today’s post is dedicated to the memory of Tasty Temptation, who passed away in late 2013. Tasty was by Zenyatta’s side during her early days at Lane’s End Farm. They carried their foals together and shared a special bond. Tasty will always be remembered fondly by the Zenyatta community.
Further information about Tasty’s passing has been released by Lane’d End. Statement
Lane’s End has been very generous opening their doors to Zenyatta.com and her passionate fans. Their experts have shared with us the inner workings of the farm and granted unprecedented access to the breeding and foaling process. We ask that our fans respect the privacy of Lane’s End and the privately owned horses they care for. All information that Team Zenyatta and Lane’s End Farm wishes to release to the public will be available here or at Lanesend.com.

I am extremely sad to hear the news of Tasty. :'( I was wondering what had happened to her. Thanks for sharing the information.

So sad to hear about Tasty. She was such a beautiful mare and I had been wondering about her. Thank you for sharing the news of her passing. She is surely racing across green pastures now.
I’ll always remember her being Zenyatta’s paddock pal.
Love,
Stella

I am very sad to hear about TT.
I have a great fondness for grays, and she was such a special friend to Z when she moved to LEF. So young. Such a beauty.
I realize all over again how much the Moses and John and Dottie are changing their industry — and our expectations — by making Zenny and all her connections so available to us. Its a wonderful gift, and I’m happy to see others begin to follow their lead with their own facebook pages, tweets, etc.
Social media may turn out to be a lifejacket for the racing industry. So many of us cannot get to the races very often, but we want to follow our favorites — horses, trainers, owners and jockeys — and learn so much that we would otherwise miss if it weren’t for this site. Sincerest thanks to all who contribute and make it so welcoming and so very interesting — a daily dose of feel good!
Zenyatta continues to be a leader!
Best to all,

Ann, My morning treat along with my coffee is to get on this blog and look again at the photos and read all the posts. Zenyatta, Coz, The Red Prince and Easter Lilly have become a part of my family. Bless ’em all and all on the blog.

@Laura J–thanks for the input on graded stakes. That’s a more thorough explanation than I have seen elsewhere.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Vicki–thanks for the heads up about the Man O’ War book. I have heard that title mentioned before.
I know Dutrow has many critics, but when we were at Three Chimneys, they said the same about his visit with Big Brown. BB came running to him. It is the greatest feeling in the world when a horse you love chooses to come to you.

Thank goodness Zenny and her girl are safe at Lanes End.
Just found out that one of Claiborne’s mares, Apropos, had an accident in the paddock before a race in Chicago and had to be put down. Think she flipped over backward. Seems as if every day we hear of another one lost.
Janet Newman
There was an article on the drf.
She suffered from a severe head injury.
Just reading the article made me very sad.
Gone at the age of 5, RIP Apropros.

Zenyatta, so sorry to hear about the passing of Tasty Temptation. I remember both of you romping together and being such close friends during the time that you carried Coz. I feel so bad that she has passed away. I have wandered many times what had happened to her. She really was a beauty and the two of you made such great pals. I will always remember Tasty as a great Pal to you and also remember her beauty and friendly way.. Sending my love to you Zenny.

In these times of instant everything our patience wears thin when we have to wait. Who has not pushed an elevator button a number of times to get there faster? Waiting may well be the hardest work we do. We are less than tolerant of those who keep us waiting. Is there time more important than ours? So we keep pushing, racing our engines and taking chances in order to save five seconds. We can wait wisely-seeing that, sometimes, delays save us from a problem we could have met. How long has it been since we have had such a good excuse to just sit quietly and watch others trying to beat the clock. Time was when our mothers sat all afternoon and embroidered, while their heads and feet rested. Could we not take thirty minutes?
We are hoodwinked, duped more and more every year; we are made to feel that we are free when we are not.

Yes – Happy Canada Day to our friends and neighbors. Not naming names because I always manage to leave somebody out, but you know who you are :-) Very best wishes from across the border!! ♥
Remembering Princess Diana too. It seems like just yesterday that we awoke to the news of her tragic death.

Thanks for reminding us, Sheena. It does seem like only yesterday. I remember exactly when I heard the news. We were in London not long after. To us, she will always be young.

Sheena. Thanks for your kind thoughts and those of others. Needed a few days away to pay respects to Tasty. Am now taking a break from work to think a little more about Tasty and other horses.
Saw this in Bloodhorse this am and decided to share it. Dan is back in training. Please note all of the info about Morton Fink’s other horses, Dan’s family. I have read that Fink personally reads everything which is written about Dan, especially the negative comments about him and Dan. His reaction: he “laughs like crazy.” Bravo Morton Fink. You know how to deal.

Welcome back, hope your issues have been resolved, sometimes we all need a break even though this is a very supportive group. We sure missed your postings and although some of us, myself included, can be gone for a week or more and never noticed, you are one of the best posters. hugs

I was just thinking back on all the gray mares that Zenyatta has shared a pasture with–Pirate Queen, Tasty Temptation and also Spooky Minister following the birth of Coz. Spooky Minister’s gray foal is now named Moe Candy and is in training at San Luis Rey Training Center in CA. He was such a cute little guy and wanted to share the camera with Coz.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
We know we are rushing too much when the microwave doesn’t seem fast enough! It’s hot here, too. In the 90’s Will reach into the 100s in a few days. Cute remark from Marty that he was talking to the cupcake and it didn’t say anything back to him. So funny! I think Scottsdale was probably hotter than here in CA. Poor little Zoe! I hope she doesn’t have to go out in the heat too much and can stay in the air conditioned house. She and her mom are up early. It’s probably for the best because it’s much cooler in the early hours. Joey seems to be doing well. He was glad they didn’t shave his bold black stripe. So handsome! Enjoy Wimbledon. Glad the chicks are doing well. What is the other chick’s name? I have voted for Fubu as well. He’s up early for his meds. A lot of us are up early with our animals. At least we know we won’t oversleep! The message from Gizmo to Zoe was so sweet. They are a pretty cute couple! Maybe there will be a canine wedding eventually??? Have a great day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Here is some interesting Tasty related news. She has a brother who is just beginning his racing career. Born in 2011, his name is White Gladiator and like Tasty he runs out of Woodbine. Trainer is Mark Casse. His sire is Tapit, so that you do not have to guess his coat color as Parisia is also a gray. Good luck to you, WG.

Dear Max.Welcome back my dear friend it’s been so strange on the blog without you.I know how extremely upset you are about Tasty.I’m glad you are taking a break from work to deal with your loss .That’s all I can tell you I have lost many 2 legged and 4 legged friends in my life and time is a great healer.I’m so happy to hear about Dan look forward to him back on the track. It was so sad about Noble Mission losing on sunday.Great to have you back, you were missed. You’ve made my day!!!Free the Moose PU Dan and all sick horses everywhere.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Noble did not lose that race. Some say Moore would have judged the pace better. Second still keeps Noble in plenty of oats.
I like to think that Tasty is kicking some butt in horsey heaven along with Big D. Cannot really see either one of them resting in peace.
Danny looks better than ever, younger and more chiselled. Handsome chestnut beast. Keep at it, Danny.
Power up Moosie. Power up CDA, Chromie and all others who are sick. Beast, what have you been doing? Reilly and Sir, still thinking of you. Tasty, Z’s special friend, never forgotten by the fans.

If I may say so, I can’t spend a much time on the site as I would like. It is enjoyable to read everyone else’s comments and news. Especially like In Memoriam. Dear Max,
Welcome back! We’re all very happy to see your posts again. I was very worried how we were going to get our Hovis updates. Great to have you back here.
vicki
Welcome back Max. Ms. Ours presented the particulars of the race but didn’t take a vocal position on the truth. I just don’t see how Johnny Loftus could have done that to MOW. He loved that horse if not his owner. That was an era in racing hard for me to imagine. August Belmont and the Jockey Club ruled racing. Social Media can be such a blessing to racing but it can also be a curse to wrong doers and wrong thinkers. Could the owners of Tasty ever have imagined that so many people would be so disturbed about her passing? My love for Zenyatta and her offspring will never fade. So grateful that Zenyatta is in the care of LEF and that the connections allow us to be a part of her life.

Sheena and Z peeps. This is a link to Bloodhorse with a video of a beautiful win by Big Kick and Victor Espinoza in a mile and three quarter turf race at Santa Anita. Big is an Ontario bred like Tasty. He’s a son of Tiznow. Good future racing to you, Big Kick. If only the Moose would do this well.

I have been thinking about Tasty Temptation since she was late to foal and could not be a pasture mate to Zenyatta aftter the birth of Coz and eventually her foal. Understand she couldn’t care for her little one,she must have been exhausted. I prayed for her recovery and happiness-always looking for some sign or photo of her.
Tasty was such am amazing friend to Zenny.I will always remember them running together, grooming eachother and grazing peacefully waiting for their time. The spirit and energy between them was palpable and such a gift.. I am so very sad that she has passed away so young. Tasty,.I know you are running and kicking in heaven and will always remember your beauty, loyalty, sweetness and strength.. From one Canadian gal to another, sending you love and remembering you fondly.
Max
This is a very heart felt testimonial to Tasty. I loved her from first sight and admired her loyalty to Zenyatta. They did have a special relationship. And Tasty was feisty. Kari might say that Tasty brought us joy. Kari and Tasty, not forgotten.

@ Max….we missed you….
I like the thought of Big D and Tasty running side by side….just think of the “attitude” that foal would have had…no one could ever accuse Tasty of lacking attitude…and of course Big D is a legend

Aww, poor Tasty! It’s heart breaking to hear of her passing! She certainly was her own mare and I’ll remember her always as the mare in the picture above; happy, and protective of Mama Z.
It’s been a while since I actually posted. I’ll read the new posts but I never had time to read the comments section anymore. That’s life for ya. Gotta give up something to get other things done.
But best wishes for everyone as I disappear into the shadows once more. A trip to BC may be in my future, so that’s always exciting! Pictures pictures pictures! Can never have too many! :-) Bye everyone; stay safe and happy please!
