Happy Wednesday!
Zenyatta and 13Z are settling into their summer routine. As you can see, Zenyatta spends her days grazing and rolling in the grass. Her colt is acclimating well to his new paddock mate. The boys can’t resist a nip & tug of the halter.
Also, at the end of this post, see a short clip Alys took of Zenyatta and her colt a few days after the birth.
Check back later in the week for updates to the Video and Photo sections along with new print additions to the Zenyatta Shop.
Enjoy!

Oh these are absolutely beautiful pictures. I love the third photo down of 13Z. Doesn’t he have Zenny signature walk with his head down, ears forward. He is just using the other leg.
That’s Zenny’s boy!!!

I so agree! Just like Mama Z!

I’m not all that educated on equine confirmation, but I think he’s gonna be a big boy!! He has a fabulous ‘front end.’ Big chest and shoulder and thick lower neck. Sturdy-looking legs, especially the upper part. Powerful!! Gorgeous!! He stands so regally, too. I’m excited to watch him grow!

Thank you so much LEF and Team Z and Alys for the new photos and the video!! Both
Z and 13Z are looking FANTASTIC!! It looks like 13Z has white at the tip of his tail? HUGS TO ALL

Thank you for everyone responsible for these photos and the video for making my day!
What a curious boy he is! He may have gotten just a tad spooked and shied away but did you see how when Zenny came over and “investigated” how she looked back at him as if to say “Silly boy, these are our HUMANS!”.
It just fills me with joy every time I see them both; especially to see Our Queen so happy and content and loving being a Mom.

So absolutely precious He is growing so fast and Mom looks great , I see she is wearing the eye protecter darn flies anyway when will we find out to whom she was breed to? I suppose after the 60 day mark Hope with my Heart all continues to go well for all and will return for more photos and info.
lara hartley
i thought the owners said they weren’t going to breed her back this time. give her a rest.

My take on that is, Zenyatta seems so very happy being a mom, and I think if she missed a season, she would be jealous of the other mares with their babies. Zenny is obviously a very good mom and her spirits seem to soar with a foal by her side. My thought is, whatever will make Zenny happy, I’m all for. Also, she seems to not have any problems with her pregnancies and foaling, which makes me feel more at ease in her new role.
These are wonderful photos, and appreciate so much the video, as well. Thank you Alys and Lane’s End. Hugs to all!

Breeding Zenyatta does not depend on “how she feels” it is based on
equine physiology. A horse is bred every year and will come up barren
if her body does not want to get pregnant. If that yearly cycle is disturbed
they may not be able to get her in foal and to lose a year of Zenny’s
breeding years, would not be a good thing. And to lose more than
one year of her breeding years would be a travesty.

We could start an informal contest on who she’s had a date with. (It must have already happened, methinks, wink wink) My bet would be Malibu Moon – another take on the A.P. Indy line.

Great glimpses into the daily lives of Zenyatta & 13Z
He looks at his Mom rolling over as if he is trying to figure it out.
Soon, little one. Soon.

Awwwww-dorable! Little colt is just perfect! Solid and smart! And he got her legs and ears!!! Z-Girl still looks amazing-such great care she gets. Thank you for sharing.
Patty Smith
Thanks so much for these great photos and the wonderful video! I can feel that beautiful velvet nose from here! I wonder if Mama Z might not be just a tad jealous of the attention that her new little one is receiving? Either that or she is just being motherly and protective…maybe a little of both. Anyway, it is a wonderful video – I love 13Z’s curiosity and Zenyatta’s usual attraction to everything that is going on around her!
Mary - Lynchburg, Virginia
It looks like 13Z is like his mama and likes the camera and attention. Z knew right away about the camera…..she thinks she is supposed to pose. I love the pictures and it is cute her rolling in the grass…. 13Z is like what is she doing…am I supposed to do that? It always makes me smile to see pictures of Z and her colts…..they warm the heart. Thank you for the pictures!!!
sue and tony
Our Zenny still loves the camera! What awesome pictures of her and 13Z…that video is great, too!
Ann Maree / Tennessee
Thank you so much, Alys! Love seeing Zenny just being a horse, and she absolutely seems to love her role as a momma. What a joy she is. Her babies keep getting more and more handsome with every foal! Hugs to all!
Angie Martin
Thank you so much for sharing the queen and her beautiful colt with us. You guys are wonderful to share Z and her baby with us. Has Z been rebred?
Joanna_TX
Thanks SO much for the new pictures and video!
Zenny looks fabulous as always and so happy. And our little red guy seems to have a solid, mature look to him already. I get the feeling he won’t be so slow to mature as his mom and some of Tapits other kids. Gosh, he’s pretty! I noticed too (somebody above mentioned it) that his chest seems deep and full already, supporting a fine shoulder structure. And his back end is just as nice. So much fun to watch him grow up!

I agree with everyone that the photos are superb. Zenyatta’s 13Z is my little Secretariat. Does anyone know why Zenyatta has that mask-like object on her face?? I would appreciate someone letting me know what that is! Thanks so much!!
Zenyen
It’s a flymask, meant to help keep the biting flies away from her eyes.
They tried to put one on her last year but one of her paddock-mates kept taking it off her. Guess this year she’s in with someone who isn’t interested in tugging it off.
Zenyen
Also to follow up…
Foals don’t wear fly masks as a rule because they WILL try to tug them off each other (keeping a halter on the little buggers is hard enough!) and also if they are bothered by flies they just walk up under Mom’s tail and that nice silky tail takes care of the pests.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Zenyen:
Charlie and Dakota are always tugging at each other’s fly masks. Angela just keeps putting them back on. Visited yesterday and the flies were awful. They really do need the masks. Hugs, JB
DeniseC
Zenny ‘s fly mask was not tugged off by anyone since she started wearing
one in 2011. Where did you ever get that idea???
Zenyen
They mentioned it back in one of the other blogs or videos and its a common occurrence among horses.
Its not that huge of a deal. Well, except for having to walk the pasture and find the silly thing.
HeartWeWillForgetJim
Fly masks keep the flys away from her eyes, so the dont get irratated

When she sniffed the lens, I felt I could reach out and pat her nose. I love Z and her boys.

How beautiful & thanks for sharing!

I so agree with everyone. Ann, Jerry, John, Dottie and the entire Team are just so giving to so many of us. I never had a horse, would love to someday. A friend of mine has 3 and I just adore them. Zenyatta is such a wonderful and loving addition to our lives. The foals Z-12 and Z-13 are so beautiful and seem to have wonderful dispositions like their Momma and yes some attitude. Zenyatta is a natural at everything, being a racehorse, being a loving and adoring girl, producing wonderful, beautiful colts. Good choices for the sires of the boys. Can’t wait to see them run…..
I just love watching them grow.
Thank you Team Zenyatta you are giving me so much more than I could have dreamed of. If ever I can get to Kentucky, my dream is to meet Zenyatta in person. God Willing.
Ashlyn
That little guy is going to get big! Can not wait to se him run he is going to be so fast like Z:D
Mary, from Michigan
Z-13 is such a looker! What was it Lucien Lauren said about Secretariat when he was still young? He’s probably too pretty to be fast! ;)
