Dear fans,
It’s an exciting time of the year. The Derby is approaching, and Zenyatta is preparing to give birth to her fifth foal. She is in great health and on track for a mid-May foaling. We will keep you posted as the big day nears. Alys took some great images of Zenyatta on Friday enjoying a beautiful Kentucky spring day.
Enjoy!

Royal Mo is now the Bubble Horse…sittin’ at 21………gulp!
Love to all!
Max
That probably means that he will ship with Gormley. Anything can happen between now and the KD so that Mo might well be in.

Yep! Pack your bags kiddos and bring Zi!!! Very exciting.

My maiden name is Ghormley, so it’s a given that I’m a fan of Gormley! Excited about the Derby and watching him race.
shirleeinindy
Reported on the Forum that John was shipping Royal Mo to Louisville with Gormley. Also, posted on there that Thunder Snow as going to run. Haven’t seen it anywhere else but those folks usually have their news straight.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Shirlee, I too think Royal Mo just might be the best horse for the Derby. I hope too he gets in.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max, Thank You so much for the remembrance of Dynaformer. Just loved him.
We have lost so many.

Dear Kathy, Thank you so much for reminding us about our Barbaro’s birthday
Happy Birthday our beloved Barbaro
Peggy (N) South Georgia
What do you guys here think of McCracken? The more I have been reading about him and his jockey he sounds pretty interesting going into the Derby.
Max
i think that he may be owned by the same woman who owns Fort Larned. Could be a very good horse.
judy berube
Dear Peggy:
Honestly, I think there are at least fifteen out of the 20 that have the ability to win the Derby. A lot will depend on post position and good racing luck too. Love and Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
I know, so many with talent this year.
shirleeinindy
Judy,
You are correct. So much depends on post and racing luck. I would think experienced jocks like Mike and Gary would be very desirable for this type of race.
As Peggy said, so many with talent but some of them appear to have some head problems. I think if Classic Empire has a decent post and his head on straight, watch out all the others.
Safe travel to all who are setting out tomorrow for Louisville.

Dear Shirlee:
Yes, safe travels all; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB

Cannot remember who really liked Rivers Run Deep (carolinarkansas I think) but he just won going away a stakes at Belterra.

Yes, you’re correct, Carol loves him. Congrats beautiful Rivers. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max.Now I got to see GF’s race. The short guy looked annoyed some horses really don’t need a jockey!Sarah had posted photo of him with 2 of his little girls after winning the Jockey’s title.I was searching through some twitter accounts and Willie had tweeted Nicky when Simonsig died telling him both Simon and Vautour were kicking up a storm in the great racecourse in the Sky.The mark of the man.
Max
This was an amazing performance by Townshend. He’s so well trained by Mullins and intent on winning that he got up instantly from his fall and kept on going. When he fell, it looked like he was second last. Without shorty, he just concentrated on getting safely through the field. He went for it at the end as he was trained to do, although it looked like instinct and the will to win, and came in second. He’s a baby too. Have to watch him next season.

Dear Sheena and Max:
Wow, what an effort. Sounds like a Champ in the making! Love and Hugs, JB

To all Zsters: I didn’t see this posted yet and I wanted you to know that Royal Mo will in fact be shipped with Gormley. Reported time of arrival in Louisville is Monday and his time on the track is Thursday. It seems Gormley had a very interesting final workout at Santa Anita. Instead of Victor being aboard, He was ridden by Francisco Alvarado, Victor rode none other but our Ziconic. Gormley’s time for 7 furlongs was 1:28 Ziconic was right behind with 1:29. It seems this was a tactic John S. used with Mama Z. Here’s hoping it works for both of them. Also, I don’t know if this is good or bad, but Coz also worked out and went four furlongs in 49.80. Also a reminder that Oregon runs tomorrow. Best of luck to all. May all Zsters and horses sleep beautifully.
Max
Setting Ziconic up to fail will have no benefit at all for him. The only horse who benefits from this tactic is Gormley.
judy berube
Dear Max:
Saw your reply to my post on ZI on the previous Blog page. I know that the practice of using rabbits is done often in the US and elsewhere, but I just don’t like seeing a horse going all out in vain. Maybe it didn’t harm Bullet Train’s psyche, but I don’t think it helps horses at all.
I agree when they’re using horses this way; as you said, seems like they are giving up on them. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
I didn’t like the use of Bullet Train in that way either, but at least it was done at the end of his racing career. I recall that Cecil said that BT just wasn’t interested in racing anymore, but he appeared to like working with his brother. Juddmonte was also not worried about the effect on future stud fees. Racing and breeding is a hobby only for Khalid Abdullah.
judy berube
Dear Max:
I’m sure Cecil knew BT very well. Hope we see ZI, and also COZ, have another go for their Maiden win. Love and Hugs, JB
Donna H
I could be mistaken but I think that is pretty good time for Coz. Seems like many that I follow are in about that same slot. I was happy to see that, too. So hope he gets in the game.
Wishing the very best and a safe trip for Gormley. Would also love to see Royal Mo get in. It seems very possible now. Girvin will have a special shoe from an article I saw.
Love to our beautiful Queen!
shirleeinindy
Donna,
They would not have dared to use Coz the way they did Ziconic. Coz would have scared the shoes off Gormley!
judy berube
Dear Shirlee:
COZ is gorgeously intimidating, isn’t he! Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks so very very much for that stunning picture of Dynaformer. After losing Barbaro, I followed the story of his brothers, none of which had a great deal of success. I’ve got my fingers crossed up to my elbows for Oregon in his race tomorrow. I was born in live in that state. I just read that a 3 year old colt named Milton-Freewater came in 2nd in his race today. That just happens to be the name of a town here in Oregon. Here’s hoping Oregon does as well or better. May everyone have a lovely night.

Was just messing around on the computer and looked up Classic Empire’s pedigree. This guy is truly a blue blood. On his dam side he has Alydar (my beloved one) Hoist the Flag and Princequillo among others! And we all know about his sire line. Not going to change my mind on my picks but was glad to see these guys represented in a Derby horse.

Dear Judy, My Night Prowler is running next Sunday at Belmont Park. Javier is on Board. Paul Pompa Jr. also had a horse running today at Belmont Park. They mentioned him as being Big Brown’s original owner. I wish we would hear more of Brownie. I always liked him. Mr. Pompa also owns my Night Prowler.

Dear Peggy,
Good luck and Godspeed to Night Prowler! Safe and sound racing to all.
Glad Javier is riding Night Prowler.

Wishing the fabulous Songbird a Happy 4th birthday and remembering my boy’s 2000 Guineas win in 2011.Henry used a pacemaker to try and cure Frankel’s fizziness. He was a horse you could never imagine coping with the Epsom track at 3 that’s why he was never entered in the Derby. He was a much more settled horse at 4,We tend to associate rabbits with Greyhound racing a sport I very much dislike.
Max
As I recall, the distance was the factor in not running Frankel in the Derby. He never did race at that distance. Very few horses can win at all distances and surfaces like Secretariat did. He set records at every distance.
sheena.davies(wales)
Henry always it was because his dam Kind was a miler Frankel’s preferred distance.STS’s of course managed to capture the Guineas Derby and Arc in 2009.
sheena.davies(wales)
Always said
Max
STS is by Cape Cross out of Urban Sea. He’s not related to Frankel. Do you mean Noble Mission? He raced at 12 furlongs.

Judy,
I too, have rescued three Greys plus an IG. I am looking forward to adopting another one soon. They are the best! They steal your heart. Racing them is a cruel sport, especially in Calliente where my rescues have come. Linda

Dear Lindal:
Wow, that’s wonderful. They do steal your heart. Yes, most are caged at least 22 hours every day when they are racers. Not a good life for a Pup. Love and Hugs, JB
