Happy Tuesday!
Alys sent us these sweet photos of Z Princess out in the paddock with her mom and their paddock mates. We’ll be visiting Lane’s End in September, and we can’t wait.
In the meantime we’ve been hard at work planning the rest of the year for Zenyatta.com, and we have some exciting announcements coming up. Today, we’re starting a brand new mailing list for those who’d like to stay updated. You can subscribe by entering your email address in the form to the right (just under the search form). Members will receive news from Zenyatta.com, offers from the Zenyatta Shop, and will be the first to know about special events and opportunities to meet Zenyatta!
Enjoy!

Dear Judy. Thanks for the video of WD’s race.Five Iron set a great pace it got close in the end but Dan pushed his nose in front!!Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Little Cap Hercules and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs Sheena.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
Yes, Five Iron gave it a good try, as did Optimizer. Danny would not be denied. Have to hand it to Johnny V too getting thrown like that. Maybe Danny was trying to get rid of some of that extra weight he was carrying. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max.The Woodbine mile looks to be a great race,is WD in it?Will have to look out for Joshua Tree,I know he always races well there.Free the Moose!Remember,Moosie,Glesni wants her sunday lunch!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Dan is entered again in the Woodbine Mile, but since he ran today, he’ll probably not travel there. Will go instead to the Shadwell. That means that the Woodbine Mile might be won to one of those other horses. Seek Again might have a very good chance. It’s a long way from the UK to Toronto, but the horses seem to like it there. As I mentioned before, the track is the most like an English turf course in North America, which is why European turf horses always do well. The backstretch is an uphill climb to the finish. We will have to see who shows up. Would like to see Toro run in particular.
Free the Moose. Beast, you should be dreaming of your next race by now.
debbie s.
Dear Max
Since Wise Dan won today- kudos again Danny—wonder if his people will let him take a pass at the Woodbine?
Debbie
Max
Debbie. The race in Toronto is in two weeks so that Dan probably will not go. They have increased the purse for the Shadwell to $1 million and it’s also a win and you’re in to the Breeders’ Cup. No travel required. Dan should do well if he has come out of today’s race in good shape.
Free the Moose! Beast, stay in bed tonight. No getting loose. Tomorrow is another day.

Dear Zenyatta family:
Stud Muffins Rule! Yet another horse is smitten with Judy’s treats! Took my little girl up to the barn to have a quick brush and change her cotton rug: and she took muffins! Was initially a bit difficult to catch, but after that behaved beautifully, and even seemed sorry to see me go after all that good food. Here are the latest photos:

Many thanks to Judy, Hugs KathyR
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Kathy R:
Oh, Little T looks wonderful. I love the full head shot; she has the kindest eyes. I am absolutely thrilled that she took the muffins. You’re in trouble now. You’ll have to make sure you have a steady supply. So happy for you and Little Thurzel. Love and Hugs to both of you, JB
KathyR
Dear Judy:
Had frozen this batch when she initially had no interest, but decided to try again today since she did take that piece of carrot. Made the mistake of going into the paddock with those wonderful smells in my pocket – got my husband Phil, who came with me to dash them back to the gate! She wasn’t interested until we got to the barn, and then stood there munching while I got her gear off and gave her a light brush, and then replaced with a clean cotton rug. Phil had a great time feeding and stroking too! Back at the paddock, despite her mate Red (the rangy one ) dashing up to greet her she was more keen to have another muffin. Think I’ve finally cracked it, thanks to your genius! Have also found out that all the others are geldings. I’m on such a high! Love and hugs, KathyR

I didn’t see that Sheena asked the same question just before me.Relieved that Dan will stay closer to home. Good news. Still sooo happy he is fine and had such a great race!
Dear KathyR
Loved the pictures of Thurzel and yes, stud muffins rule and we will be making them for a long time! Ash likes to lie in the sun too and sends his greetings to Little Thurzel.
Dear Judy,
Thanks for so many beautiful pictures of the horses yesterday and for the video and all the info on Wise Dan and his race today. Yippppeeeee!!!! He is the man and love that horse. Look forward to Seek Again in the Woodbine. Goodnight, love and hugs,Debbie

KathyR. Thanks for this. Never get tired of reading about Dan.
Glad also to hear that your tiny horse is coming around. Knew that it was only a matter of time and treats. Keep them coming. She now knows who you are. When one is good to a horse, the horse will be good in return. The Beast and Big D may be handfuls, but we love them anyway. Same for the elusive non racing Moose.
Free the Moose! Beast, keep those escapes to a minimum.

August 31 – September 2 Cherokee Devotional
Hi everyone. I leave for a week today. Here are the Devotionals:
August 31
The first thing we consider is how we feel-but feelings change on waves of emotion. As soon as we awake in the morning we test our feelings for how the day will go. It is like testing the wind for what day it is. Feeling and emotion are an important part of us-but only a part. If we give them power, they will a s da wa dv s to di, take over or rule us. How many times our emotions have caused us to be sick or to fight, when all we had to do was resist the suggestion. Our sensitivity to pain or hurt can make tears well up with self-pity and an even greater need to feed our emotions. When we have good reason to hurt, it will end sooner if it is allowed to go away.
We felt like talking to the ground, we loved it so, and some of the old men and women cried with joy when they reached their homes.

When they sang, a line or two…of a hymn printed in the Cherokee language…I certainly never saw a congregation engaged more apparently in sincere devotion.

September 1
We may be physically bound to this earth, but we are eagles in our spirits. Wo ha li, an eagle, is the symbol of freedom with power to soar. Their nests are aeries built high above all other nests where nothing can touch their young. When wo ha li sets its wings to catch the wind, its flight is one of grace and beauty. Wo ha li takes time out to renew itself, to pull out old feathers so new ones can grow in. The eagle also removes portions of its beak and new growth replaces it. We can soar as well. Our spirits have no limitations and we can set our goals to any height we aspire to reach. When we set our minds and spirits to do something, nothing can bring us down except ourselves. But we do need to take time to rest and renew so that our flight is full and free right to the goal!
Your feet shall be as swift as forked lightning; your arm shall be as the thunderbolt, and your soul fearless.

September 2
Somewhere among our best times is a lost day. It was not lost all at once but minute by minute. It seemed only a moment of irritation or a few seconds of melancholy for no reason at all. But it all adds up to a day that gave nothing. The lost minutes are like the little foxes, the tsu la, that steal into the vineyard unnoticed to ruin the fruit on the vine. We take such care to keep out the bigger drain on our time, and let the little irritations, the times of melancholy and doubt steal our common sense and ruin the day. Life is so many little things, little ideas, little words-but combined, they are life. The only benefit is in recognizing that though we have lost a day, the remaining time can be lived without regret.
There was a time when our people covered the land as the waves of a wind-ruffled sea…that time long since passed…I will not mourn…

September 3
Every day we have choices. We may not like what they are, but we can choose how we will react. If we don’t choose what we want in our lives, then life will decide for us. And if we do not like how it has chosen so far, we are sure not going to like what it has in the future. Few really think they have a choice. And it may appear that way-unless we are fighters. People willing to swim against the tide are fighters. They do not agree with everything they see and hear just to be one of the crowd. They think and act for themselves. We develop muscle when we swim upstream, and with the mental and spiritual power that comes with it, we accept and reject, change even the way we look-and find solutions we never knew existed.
Our eyes are opened so that we see clearly. Our ears are unstopped…for all these favors we thank the Great Spirit and him only.

When we have an interest in something we seldom lack the energy to do it. We can keep at it hour after hour. But weariness follows routine and anything that lacks creativity and color. We can’t always do what pleases us. There will surely be some necessary work that does not excite us-but all we have to do is refuse to be dull and unseeing. It shows in the way we walk and in our i yu ni we dv, our expressions. A sudden change from routine to something more exciting floods us with energy and a brightness that was there all the time. We just didn’t know it and let feeling rule us. Energy flows when it is connected to a live circuit. Our work is to stay connected.
Rise to the dignity and grandeur of your honored position…shake off the base fetters of the bad spirit…

September 5
Constant motion seems more important than waiting. But waiting is the time to prepare, to build up the spirit and be rested and ready. When anxiety grips us it uses up energy. It wastes our time. Waiting creates staying power so that there is no need to retreat, no need to go a si ni, as the Cherokee puts it, to go backward. Much depends on whether our waiting is a pause before going on, or an inertia that puts us in a trance. But when the mind, body and spirit track together as a unit to move mountains, the waiting is only a prelude to action that makes up for any lost time.
The path to glory is rough and many gloomy hours obscure it.

September 6
The habitual comfort of a familiar place keeps us where we are-even when we are not happy there . The hurt of leaving something we have grown accustomed to makes it more difficult. It takes time to adjust-some say as much as six weeks. But once an adjustment is made, we could never go back. The ache for the old and familiar no longer has the pull it once had. Like the delicate tendrils of an ivy cling tenaciously, each sensitive feeling must be loosened and detached before we begin to feel at home. Until we lose the world we once knew, we cannot fully adjust to a new one. It is a slow, strange unraveling of old a no da nv te s gv, ways of thinking and doing. But one day we can look back and wonder why it took so long when being free and joyfully alive is so good.
While feeling compassion for you in the sweetness of our repose, we wonder at the anxieties and cares which you give yourself…

Dear Kathy.I will read a devotional each day.Hope you Steve and the furbabies have a wonderful time and plenty of R&R.Joey’s kidneys just failed in the end.It must have all started a few months ago when he was ill and they assumed he’d eaten something. It’s amazing to think how a cat touched so many lives.I was watching the tributes from THV last night.I hope they will bury him in the garden maybe they’ll wait until his momma/agent gets back from her travels.Tom had been to see him Friday morning and Dr Bob was making him as comfortable as possible. He always reminded me of Katie although she was a bigger cat.I lit a candle for him last night.RIP sweetheart.
Marty has had a baff ready for Monday!Fubu’s mum has found 2 nice docs but hasn’t decided yet.Mango’s mum is in the middle of moving,it seems 1/2 her stuff has gone and they will have to delay the move by a day.I made enough fuss when I moved and it was only to a different street in the same town!!!It’s a lovely day here in Wales, the fat bird known as Deri is on her perch awaiting her next meal.Enjoy your trip.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Think of me when you read the Devotionals! Thanks so much for your good wishes. Absolutely they should bury Joey in the garden. That way he will always be close to everyone who loved him so. Joey was really one in a million. I’ll miss him so much. I’m glad you lit a candle for him. Amen, RIP darling Joey. Is that a bubble baff that Marty will be having? It must be a real challenge to bathe a rat! Feeling bad for Mango and family. It will be such a relief when things get back to normal! When will Deri be taking off? Hope Monty brings her a nice flounder. Have a lovely day. See you in a week. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Kathy
Thank-you so much for the devotionals.Hope you have a wonderful holiday.
Dear Sheena
Good morning or afternoon for you.
Close ups of Deri now in the nest- she is gorgeous.
Deri finished eating almost half hr ago and is not budging for poor Gwynant waiting in perch to have the bit that is left.
Earlier they were on the lower perch with cattle all around. The cattle were grazing and moving freely as nature intended, lovely to see.
Cheers,going back to nest. Hugs,Debbie

Dear Debbie.I could see on the Dyfi’s twitter that they think Gwynant may have gone,I’ve looked on their FB to see if he’s been seen but no news.Deri has been around when I’ve looked in and Monty was bringing in a large stick for the nest much to her annoyance!Monty has surpassed himself this week bringing in 30 fish for his youngsters! He’s a brilliant dad it’s no wonder blue 24 would love him as a mate!I expect Glesni must be nearly home now,I just hope she makes it back earlier next year.I heard there are storms at the US open.hope you’ve had a lovely day.Hugs Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Do you think that the young Gwyn has gone to Grange Hill Farm for the winter? Moose would probably take him in, but I’m not certain that Moosie could also afford Deri’s super sized grocery bills. Deri might be aiming for the Big Bird look. Maybe Kauto can find a reinforced perch for her.
They suspended that US Open tennis match today while I was distracted. Suddenly it was re-runs of Federer in 2007. Could only tell by the color change in the clothes. All England has it right to insist on white outfits only.
Free the Moose! Beast, take cover from the rain. Good reason to stay in your stall.

Dear Max.Hope you are enjoying your holiday.Any special cake today?I’m sure Hovis would have been happy to know William-fox-in-a-hole won a bronze medal at the WEG and the UK won silver.Of course we all know he’d had got gold riding Hovis! We won’t know for definite about Gwynant until tomorrow.I wonder what Nigel will think about all these feathery lodgers Moose has living with him?Can you imagine the bill for fish suppers if Deri moves in??I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a large youngster.Free the MooseNiss4Senate.Sheena.
Max
Sheena.
Were going with red velvet cake for Labor Day. Your Nissy is planning on naps and nip. Her peep will go unsupervised for the holiday.
Fox in the Hole has made a serious error in not calling on Hovis. With that Shergar talent coursing through his veins, Hovis is ready to win big.
It seems to me that Deri is an Amazon among girl osprey. She might also be bulking up to teach that Blue girl a lesson about messing with Glesni. Blue better high tail it out of there and not come back.
Nigel will understand why Moosie has an entourage of birds with attitude. Moose needs support for his next run in with the beak. A flock of birds of prey might make the beak finally see reason.
Free the Moose! Enough with this suspension. Beast, time for a snooze.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Wimbledon were extra strict about all-white this year .They had allowed outfits with a little colour in previous years.I know I’m a traditionalist but I used to like the players bowing to the royal box and when they would always walk off court together at the end of a match, something you rarely see these days.Free the Moose!Sheena.Just heard Maria Sharapova is out in 3 sets.
Max
Sheena. Yes, Maria is gone. I saw the match on CBS this afternoon before the rain ruined the men’s match. Caro was really good. Hope that you get to see a replay.

JudyB. Looks gray to me too. What a great little horse that Ox is, and so much like Paynter. I read that Paynter likes to nip. Wonder if Ox bites. Second photo shows some attitude as in : are you talking to me? Glad that he’s going home to Calumet.

Dear Carol:
Yes, his coat color may be changing even more as he gets older. He’s a beautiful boy. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. To be a true gray, a horse must have a parent who is a gray. Both Awesome Again and Tizamazing are bays. Ox has some gray hairs in his coat which makes him appear to us to be a gray in some lights, but he is still a bay genetically speaking. Ziconic also has some gray hairs in his coat, but he’s a chestnut, not a gray. Neither Ox nor Zi will ever gray out like Tasty did. Tasty, recall you fondly.
Free the Moose! Beast, hope that you are resting on Labor Day. Dan, heard that you are okay and eating up everything in sight. Good going, Danny.

I’m going to miss Tom Durkin too. Such a great voice and so very informative. Yup, I was most definitely a “Durkin groupie.” Just catching up on some of the racing this weekend and was I ever impressed by Stonestreet’s ATREIDES. I hope no-one has already posted this, but here’s his second race (below). I’m sorry he’s a 3 year-old because it would have been super to follow him on the Triple Crown Trail — his home stretch really reminded me of Rachel’s Kentucky Oaks!

Dear Sheena
No wonder Gwynant has gone, last time I saw him not long ago, Deri had a big fish and,he stood on the perch as usual waiting patiently.Even when she was finished eating Deri stood over the bit left for ages.and was not going to give a bite away. When I am in another room,,I know when she is back in the nest as her calls are sooo loud-very convenient for me.hee-hee..What a girl! Love her dearly.
I do know that Gwynant was going to go first, just having a little fun poking at Deri. I will miss him very much and am saying prayers for a safe flight.I loved his quiet ways, his patience and his steady presence. What a good brother! Monty is am amazing Dad-stellar!!!! I would have never know about this lovely family had it not been for you Sheena .Hearfelt thanks. . Love and big hugs,Debbie
