Dear fans,
It’s rare that these blog posts aren’t Zenyatta-related, but this weekend we’re Team G!
If you’ve been following Kentucky Derby news, you know that Gormley will run tomorrow with Victor Espinoza aboard. Learn more about Gormley here, and tune in tomorrow at 6:34 pm ET to watch the race.
We wish the Derby contenders good luck and safe rides all around!
Go Gormley!

Hope TS is OK too. Love and Hugs, JB

I heard he has been examined by the vets and seems fine. From comments I have read the slop frightened him.He should never have been allowed to run.

Thankful that TS is apparently ok and that everyone else returned to their barns ok. Congrats to Always Dreaming and his connections and Johnny V. It was a very sloppy track. I was hoping that G Team would get to celebrate and that he would come in on the board. 20 is a big crowded field to get around and finish well.
Sure nice to see Ann’s smiling face!

Congratulations to all the winners.

What a race! Here’s hoping nobody got hurt. I was a bit concerned about Classic Empire when I heard he got bounced around a bit at the start, but at least he still managed to get 4th. From what I heard Always Dreaming is the 6th ‘Favorite’ to win in as many years. Perhaps it was the rain, but a lot of the more familiar names didn’t seem to do as well as expected and some of the lesser known ones like Looking At Lee (2nd) did much better. Best Wishes to the Moss’s! Let’s hope Gormley comes out of this race in good order and does a bit better next time. Go Gormley Go. It’s good to hear TS is alright. I just learned he was last which means he was the strongest horse in the race because he held everyone else up. Better luck next time to him also. Finally, since too have become a Patch fan I have to say Good Try and Best Wishes. At least it seems he didn’t get hurt. How about this? Now that the Derby is over, perhaps Ann can out to see her beloved Zenyatta and be there when the newest member of the family makes his/her debut.

Always Dreaming becomes fifth straight favorite to win Kentucky Derby
By Jay Privman Daily Racing Form 05/06/2017
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For all the abuse trainer Todd Pletcher has seen come his way for his record in the Kentucky Derby, winning with one of his first 45 starters, his win on Saturday with Always Dreaming in the 143rd Derby might have been his finest hour here at Churchill Downs.

so very happy to see the beautiful Ann again!!! you are so lovely Ann – and its always a pleasure to see your beautiful smile with your horses – it looks like Gormley loves you as much as Zenyatta does – we all do Ann!! Gormley tried but that track was a mess – I am sure he will do better in his next race – and we will be looking forward to seeing Royal Mo in his next race too – as always, thinking of dear Zenyatta – praying she is doing well – wishing her all the best when her times come to deliver her sweet next baby – looking forward to reading happy news about mom and new baby – just wanted to wish Ann and Zen and all the Moss runners well – love you all – God Bless – and thanks for sharing the pictures with us — a fan always…. monica

Post-Race Comments from 2017 Kentucky Derby Connections
May 6th, 2017 America’s Best Racing
With the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands still fresh on the minds of racing fans, let’s hear from the connections of the horses who didn’t win the run for the roses for some insights into Always Dreaming’s impressive victory in the first jewel of the Triple Crown as well as some thoughts on their runners:

From the looks of it seems TS is all right but considering he’s probably never run on slop in Dubai where it’s mainly sand, wonder why his connections even bothered to run him? He looked really startled coming out of the gate by the sloppy track and was spinning around like “what is this anyway?” nevertheless glad he didn’t injure himself. Was root in for Gromley and Patch but just glad they and the others came home okay.

Sad to hear that Heartbreak City suffered a fatal injury on the gallops yesterday preparing for a race at the Curragh. His trainer Tony Martin and owners are devastated He was a fine winner of the Ebor last year and only lost the Melbourne cup by a short head.RIP bonnie lad.Much sympathy to all connections.
A fine win just now for the regally bred Frontiersman.By Dubawi out of the globe trotting mare Ouija Board he is one to watch.Lovely weather here.

RIP Heartbreak City. Love and Hugs, JB

Good news about Royal Mo he will run in the Preakness but McCracken has a puncture wound on his left hind leg and Classic Empire has a swollen right eye.
Black Caviar’s colt by Sebring has been named Prince Of Caviar.Very appropriate.

It was a brutal go of it. Hope those babies recover and feel better soon. Love out to all of those Teams.

Dear Ann:
It was brutal. The notes on Equibase give all the incidents of bumps and steadies. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sheena:

He ran a courageous race. Very proud of him. I hope they try the Belmont if he comes out of the Derby OK.

Another Classic double for the maestro at Ballydoyle as Winter wins the 1000 guineas.A lovely grey filly ridden by Wayne Lordan. The favourite Rhododendron got caught in traffic More important the mighty Galileo sired both winners. What can you say about this stallion?
Congratulations to Andrew Nicholson for winning his first Badminton Horse Trials with Nereo. This man was told he may never walk again after breaking his neck.He certainly proved them wrong.
sheena.davies(wales)
We are grandparents twice over at the Dyfi as Clarach has laid her 2nd egg.In the first year of breeding a bird may lay an hormonal egg but now we have another egg it proves all is well. Her reproductive cues are reliable and consistent.Well done Clarach you have made Monty,Glesni and your fans so very happy.

Lost some money on Irish War Cry. But just because of his name, I put some $ to place and show on Looking At Lee and cashed a very nice ticket. Corey Lanier made a masterful ride. He just did a Calvin Borail and sneaked up the rail. Congrats to all of them and so glad no one was seriously injured. Have to admit that when Thunder Snow threw that fit I had to giggle. Thought he wasn’t injured just an angry horse.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Shirlee,
How smart you were to put some money on Looking at Lee! Impressive!
Congrats on your longshot pick. :-)

BGG,
I saw an article that said McCracken was out of the TC because of his injury. Hope he can get back healthy. Most importantly, just take his time and heal up.

Classic Empire Injury Update
Alicia Wincze Hughes @BH_AHughes 7 May, 2017
Mark Casse days Classic Empire has swelling in his right eye.
“He can barely open it now.” Said eye will determine if he goes to Preakness
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear BGG,
I sure hope both of these colts heal quickly and without complications. Both injuries are indeed cause for concern — positive thoughts and prayers for both horses.
Power up McCraken, and Power up, Classic Empire.

Congratulations to Always Dreaming. Beautiful horse and awesome name. Great run by him and all of them. That was one very sloppy track.
Dear Gormley, you made me proud. I have been on your bandwagon for a while now too. When you made that move on the outside I was on my feet shouting for you. You did your best, that is all we can ask.
I think Ann must use apple shampoo. They all love her hair. Great photo. Thank you Team G and Team Z.
Dearest Z, I think of you all the time and your little one who should be here very soon. Zenyatta my angel, I love you forever.

Dear Mama Z, COZ, ZI and DC:

Z Princess, Dubai, Baby Z, will always love you.

Dear Z Fans:
Sending healing wishes to McCraken, Classic Empire and all of the sweet boys who were steadied, bumped and bumped again. Hope they recover completely and soon. Twenty is a large field and there were many incidents when jostling for position. I always get anxious and that track surface was an added concern. I’m thinking that Thunder Snow channeled Moose and just didn’t want any part of competing; maybe the awful track condition contributed.
Just grateful there were no serious injuries. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Moose stood still and silent as do Labaik and Daikali when they refuse to run. They do not act like they are in the Calgary Stampede. Why Thunder Snow did that, no one knows. Maybe he doesn’t like the dirt at Churchill?
judy berube
Dear Max:
Maybe TS will start a new trend; bucking instead of running. Just glad he seems to be OK after his antics. Maybe he didn’t like the feel of the sloppy surface; only he knows for sure. Love and Hugs, JB

Derby Recap: Johnny on the Pony
Steve Haskin The Blood-Horse 07 May, 2017
“So, whether stories of the Turf are born out of the streets of Brooklyn, New York or Carolina, Puerto Rico or the Bluegrass of Kentucky, they all are bound together by the magic and lure of the Thoroughbred. And in every chapter written throughout history the cast of characters have one thing in common. They are always dreaming.”
