Happy Thursday!
November 7th is particularly special to us, as it’s the anniversary of Zenyatta’s 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic win. In honor of this day we’re re-releasing Jamie Corum’s Zenyatta: Breeders’ Cup Gold in the Zenyatta Shop.
We were at Mayberry Farm in Ocala yesterday visiting Cozmic One. Coz looks great, and Ann, Jerry, and John were thrilled to observe his morning routine.
Today we’re at Lane’s End with Zenyatta, and we told her all about the incredibly successful 2013 Zenyatta.com Celebration. The winners and results will be released once all prizes are claimed, but we want to thank each and every fan who participated. Thanks to you, this weekend was even more fun than we had hoped! The Celebration Sticker and Invitation To Meet Zenyatta were so popular that we decided to draw five winners—Zenyatta can’t wait to meet you!
We’ll update the blog next week with many more photos from this trip!
Update: The five winners of our Invitation To Meet Zenyatta drawing were chosen and notified on Tuesday, November 5.
In the meantime, don’t forget to watch Zenyatta’s 2009 Breeders’ Cup run today. We love you, Z!

Dear Max Some great racing this weekend!Good to hear the Fly has summered well in the Emerald Isle,Nigel, Moosie’s boss has a good hurdler called The New One, cant see anyone beating the Fly! Kauto was asking the girls to sneak him into the Betfair Chase, I was watching the tribute to him ,will never forget his win in 2011 was screaming my head off!!!would be great if they paraded him there,Haydock says he’s welcome anytime. Hugs Sheena

Sheena. Check out the Cartier winners. The fillies and mares took almost all. Seems fitting. They deserve it and I have yet to meet any female who does not like getting anything from Cartier. Glad to see Estimate get an award. She is a great runner. Two miles is a little trot her. Congrats. Wish that she could tutor Moosie.

Wow! Did I dream the fabulous 10 days I spent in So. California?? Did all of those incredible days really happen??? I’m back at work now and there is an air of unreality about it all–it was SO perfect!!
As Sandy said earlier,my journey from home to the Olive Garden,in Arcadia for dinner, was eventful. I drove to Boise after work Thursday,Halloween< night, not getting away from home until 11PM! I went the long way to avoid the mountain road, where a lot of animals roam, so did not reach the hotel there, where I left my car while travelling, until after 3:30 AM. By the time i settled down to sleep,it was 4:20 AM—and—I had a 6:30 AM wake up call!! I started my travels with a shuttle to the airport, followed by my flight to San Diego (taken on the inaugural non-stop Boise-San Diego flight ,on which I had snagged a special 99.00 each way fare). My next trip was on a bus from the SD airport to the downtown Amtrak station, where I boarded the train for Union Station in LA,where I boarded the Gold Line light rail to the end of that line,in Pasadena. Next,I waited for bus 118,which would take me to Colorado Boulevard and the Pasadena Inn. After getting checked in there,I took a taxi to the restaurant, where I was only about 1/2 hour late for dinner. All in all, pretty good timing,I thought!!
What fun to see the gang at dinner and to hear about the day's races and to begin planning the excitment for Saturday. It was SO wonderful to renew acquaintances with so many Zster friends again–and to give Barnaby's Auntie Trina a huge hug just from him!!!
Saturday,of course, was just one exciting moment after another–starting out with getting to talk to Terry Crow on the phone!!!! Was so sorry not to have been able to meet him on Friday—hope we can fix that NEXT year!!!! One thing I was glad NOT to see on Saturday was the terrible spill of Johnny V. and Secret Compass (RIP,poor baby!!) I was down at the paddock taking some photos of Gary Stevens–one of my heroes, whom I had never seen in person. Didn't try to talk to him as I didn't want to break his concentration–but it was a thrill just to see him (of Course, when he WON the classic, the tears fell like rain!! (Does anyone have a way to put up a link from the NBC coverage–did not get it on DVR–sob!) Had such fun with everyone all day–and had a few successful bets as well, just little ones, but fun. Mostly,I just bet on Gary and Mikie!!! And-had to put a little on Joseph O'Brien–just love him—so glad he was voted leading Irish jockey–woo hoo!!! inner Saturday night was lots of fun too–it was so fun to see our JAG and her happiness about her beloved Muchie!! Wish you could all have seen her gorgeous nails–all done up like his silks—awesome!!!
Sunday at Hollywood Park was one of the highlights of my whole 10 day trip (after traversing SO many freeways to get there!!). I still can't believe we got to see Zenny's stall, and meet Steve and Michelle. It was incredible hearing him talk about Zenny, and he was so kind to all of us! I was so in awe of him and all he's done and it was such an honor to meet and talk to him,I had rears in my eyes.. He saw that they came up again when we were leaving and he gave me a hug–I'll never forget it!! Then,we went to Doug O'Neill's barn and got to meet Lava Man–I was in heaven! I had been disappointed that they had not brought him to the BC–then–we got to meet him and pet him–and–give him carrots!!! Wow!! He is so cute–a loveable ham–this boy KNOWS how special he is!! His personality really reminded me a lot of Barnaby!!! Thank youKaren Gogue, for your kindness to us all in arranging this for us and for spending time with us!! You rock, girlfriend–you're the best!!! After we left HP,Sandy and Debbie G. took me all the way down to Irvine to my daughters–on the way we stopped for lunch at THe Resort at Pelican Hill, where I love to go to visit when I'm down at my daughters–it was such a lovely time together and I almost totally lost it when we had to say goodbye at my daughter's11 All in all- the whole weekend was marvelous!! To all who made it so (especially the other 4 members of our quintet, Trina,Vickie,Sandy and Debbie), my eternal thanks for a truly magical time—-lets do it all again next year!!!!!!
More about the REST of the 10 days later!! For tonight–may all Zsters, the 'Objects of our affection",Queen Z,her boys, her "baby on board" and all of her connections, have sweet dreams and a peaceful night. Love to all from me—and from Barnaby and Traveller–and Sue
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Sue, thanks for regaling us with your recounting of this year’s BC adventure! I had heard you took a lot of different transportation just to arrive, but had not heard the details, as I couldn’t come myself until Saturday morn. We had great fun all Saturday and Sunday, and got meet Steve Willard, Michele, and Carmen, and to feed Lava Man. I still remember you all made the most of those strawberry cupcakes, I got to try that wonderful spinach-artichoke dip, and I’m so glad I got to know our quintet better.
Looking forward to hearing more about how your post-BC week went down in the O.C. with your daughter. And glad everything was/is fine with Barnaby and Traveller.
Terry Crow
Sue-Thanks for the recap of your remarkable odyssey. It was indeed a pleasure to speak with you on the phone. I am sorry I was not able to share some more of your adventures, but I was there in spirit. You couldn’t have been with a better group. Touring Barn 55 and meeting Lava Man was just icing on the cake. I must say that, after seeing the photo of the dinner group, that you look exactly as I had imagined you would, and that’s a good thing. Some day I will post all of my experiences in Idaho where I used to do some business when I was a contributing member of society.

November 13 Cherokee Devotional
Nothing is set forever in one direction. Change is part of life, but once we have found the right course, we must stay on it. To do that, we must desire to stay on the right course and be constantly attentive to that course.
But staying on the course won’t necessarily be easy. All along the way we will face potholes and pitfalls, and we must pay attention so we don’t fall into them. When we stay focused on our direction, every step we take, everything we do keeps us on course. But if we lose our focus, if we listen to voices from the past whispering that we’ve made a lot of mistakes and will never find the right way, we may in fact lose our way. But we can whisper back and tell all those negative voices to get lost. Then, as we continue on, we express our gratitude every day that we are on the right course.
From all quarters we receive speeches from the Americans, and not one is alike. We suppose they intend to deceive us.

Bluegrass Girl
Terry
The only surprise for me was how KY came back from being down & almost won.
John Calipari kept saying before the game that this freshman team didn’t really
have a chance against the experienced Spartans.
So, it was a good first game for them. Think it will be a different team & different outcome by the end of the season.
Go Big Blue!
BGG

BGG-Don’t get me wrong. I am a Kentucky fan all the way. However, the easiest way for a coach to deflect criticism is to tell the faithful not to expect much. Then, if the team wins, he takes all the credit.

Stevens, Smith Lead U.S. Team for Longines International Jockeys’ Championship
by Press Release | 11.13.2013 | 8:13am
A stunning line-up of 12 superstar riders will take centre stage at Happy Valley on Wednesday, 4 December for the LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship, worth HK$800,000.
The top three riders in the four-race contest will each receive prize money, with the winner carrying off HK$500,000, the second HK$200,000 and the third HK$100,000.
In what is one of the strongest international line-ups ever assembled, North American legends Mike Smith and Gary Stevens will join peers from around the globe, among them the three-time British champion Ryan Moore, five-time champion of France Christophe Soumillon and two riders who have ignited the Hong Kong circuit this season, 13-time champion Douglas Whyte and Joao Moreira.
http://www.paulickreport.com/news/people/stevens-smith-lead-u-s-team-for-longines-international-jockeys-championship/
Terry Crow
Well, the US team doesn’t lack for riding talent. However, the horse does have something to do with it. I’ve never seen a jockey yet who could ride faster than a horse can run. I don’t know the conversion rate. How much is a HK dollar compared to US currency?
Bluegrass Girl
Terry
Here is the current coversion rate–1 Hong Kong Dollar equals 0.13 US Dollar
Which makes me wonder if there is an error in story.
Maybe it should read US dollars?
BGG
Terry Crow
BGG-Thanks for the info. It is surprising that Mike and Gary would go so far to compete for such trivial amounts. Of course, the way things are going in this country the US dollar will soon be equal to 13 cents HK.

Dear Sheena and Z Fans:
Visited Charlie, Hudson and the Sweeties today. Had my first grooming lesson. I groomed Flash, who is a gentle Paint. It was so much fun. I also helped muck out a stall.
Charlie’s in deep trouble (again). He is pulling everyone’s blankets, including his own and has made rips in some of them. Angela is very upset with him. I had a talk with him and told him he has GOT TO STOP this behavior. He seemed to be concentrating intently, but I think it was on the carrots he was chewing and not on the lecture he was getting. Going back tomorrow to do some more grooming.
Hudson was ridden again today by Amanda. I had a nice talk with her Mother, Debbie and I think things are going to work out. It looks very good. I’m so happy for Hudson and that she will be staying on the farm.
Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT and all the Sweeties

$5 million half-brother to Black Caviar fighting for life after spider bite
Michael Manley Herald Sun November 14, 2013 8:46AM
AUSTRALIA’S most expensive yearling – the $5 million half brother to Black Caviar – is in a battle for his life after being bitten by a white tail spider.
The Redoute’s Choice-Helsinge two-year-old colt, who is known as Jimmy, suffered the spider bite and was taken to the Werribee Veterinary Clinic for treatment a fortnight ago.
While he was there for treatment to the bite he suffered an allergic reaction to the antibiotic he was treated with, which led to a bout of diarrhoea which subsequently has led to the onset of laminitis, a condition that affects horses’ hoofs.
BC3 Thoroughbreds, which owns the horse, said in a statement it had grave concerns for his welfare but added he would be getting the best vet care possible.
