California Chrome to Contest Hollywood Derby
By Blood-Horse Staff November 12, 2014
Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner California Chrome is expected to conclude his 2014 season and make his turf debut in the Hollywood Derby (gr. IT)
at Del Mar Race Course Nov. 29.

Bluegrass Girl, Thanks! Come on CC; I know what you are made of and you can win!
It is no fluke to have one the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness you beautiful one.
Keep working and stay safe.
Sally B
Ann Mitchell Adam
I am cheering for California Chrome. That’s for sure!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I sure hope that whatever was wrong with the turf at Del Mar over the summer has been completely and without a doubt FIXED!! I guess Art wouldn’t even consider this adventure if he thought otherwise, right?
Terry Crow
Sandy-The crew at Del Mar have had plenty of time to roll the course and correct any problems which may have existed. Art is apparently being directed to allow CC to run in this race. It is well known that the owners will not allow CC to run in a race unless the total purse is at least one million.
Ingrid Arnone
Yes, I hope he wins.
Go CC, go CC.
WE love you!
Ingrid.

Big Brown to Stand 2015 Season in New York
By Blood-Horse Staff November 5, 2014
Big Brown , champion 3-year-old of 2008 when he won the first two legs of the Triple Crown and a leading third-crop sire, will stand the 2015 season in New York.
A majority interest in the 9-year-old son of Boundary, the sire of nine 2014 stakes winners and recent Bob Baffert-trained Santa Anita Park 2-year-old winner Dortmund, has been acquired by Andrew Cohen’s Sunrise Stables and Gary Tolchin’s Golden Goose Enterprises. Both were involved in the ownership of Big Brown during his racing career
Later in article
Big Brown will stand his first season in New York for an introductory fee of $8,500. Sunrise and Golden Goose, which developed and stand record-breaking New York freshman sire Frost Giant, will announce the location where Big Brown will stand in the near future.

Dear Max.I know I got the link wrong!I was thrilled I got all the winners I voted for except Leading Light.Sad to hear about SDG I was looking forward to his return.Good race in Ireland tomorrow Sizing Europe and Champagne Fever.Annie is sticking to the hurdles this season,I had hoped she might meet the love of her life Moosie in a chase. The Moose is free.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Moose already tweeted an invitation months ago to visit, and got no response. No evidence either that the love could be reciprocated by the lady herself who would tower over our chestnut hero. She’s 17.2. Have you looked at her pedigree? Her dad was a Breeders Cup Turf winner. She had Teutonic blood. She might be looking at the likes of Sea The Stars for a boyfriend. Her race record is pretty daunting too for the Moose. I guess however that it’s always important to dream big. Let me know if you hear about anything between them in the romance department.
Max
Latest on Wise Dan. Test results are in. Incredible healing on the broken bone. This healing is all due to Dan. No medical intervention was done.
LoPresti is quoted as saying that the doctors confirm that Dan can return to racing. Decision will rest with Morton Fink. I guess that we could expect little else from the most interesting horse in the world.
Kick butt Danny!
SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
Max, His has earned his name Wise Dan for sure. He is amazingly awesome.
hugs, Sally B
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
What a horse! Wishing Danny all the best. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
SallyB and JudyB. Our Danny is inbred to some mighty fine horses. I often wonder if he got the X factor along with his chestnut cashmere coat from Secretariat through his momma and granny. He’s definitely inherited a boatload of grit and determination from Northern Dancer. ND was wildly feisty but if he was ever ill, he cooperated fully with the vets. A very smart horse.
JudyB. I have been thinking a lot about your dear Dubai and you. It’s awful what happened. Hope things get easier for you to bear, but it’s going to take a long time. I’m still very upset by Tasty and the Princess, especially the Princess. Dubai, frankly, I’m upset about him too.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, it’s going to take a long time to accept these losses. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
LoPresti was interviewed on the radio about Dan. The vets reviewed the recent tests on Dan’s cannon bone and had trouble finding the fracture. Gone as if by magic. Dan is in good spirits in his 100 % cashmere coat and is not lame in any way. Ankle is perfect. They will take him home to the farm in a few weeks and he’ll be turned out in his paddock as always for the winter, probably with his brother. I expect that Norman will be there too. Morton Fink will decide if Dan races again. It’s looking very positive because even if he doesn’t always race, Dan likes to win. This is some kind of miracle like his recovery from colic. And he’s got a new nickame, the Danimal!
Kick butt Danny.
Marshall (NC Broad)
YAY! Wise Dan is awesome! What an amazing horse! So glad to hear that the bone is healing well. Take care Danny — Mr. Fink and Mr. Lopresti will look out for your best interests. Keep doing what you are doing; it seems to be working!
Love and hugs
Ann NC
Great news!
The Most Interesting Horse in the World. Put your blankie on, Danny Boy, brrrr.
So happy he is strong and healthy! Thank you, Charlie, good man!
Terry Crow
This is really good news. I would expect Wise Dan to be turf horse of the year despite his limited schedule.
Max
TC. Dan had 3 grade 1 wins and a grade 2 this year. Would have won the BC Mile too if he hadn’t got injured. He is the class racer of the mile and is unbeaten on turf. Some talking heads say that Main Sequence should win because he had one more grade 1. I’d vote for Dan over MS. Defying death on the operating table and personally overcoming a possible career ending injury should count for something. When Dan won, he also overcame race obstacles and showed tremendous heart and courage. He’s a phenomenon. Vote for Dan.
Kick butt Danny.
Terry Crow
I agree completely with your sentiments. There is actually some speculation that MS will be horse of the year, Can’t see it. regardless of the paper stats.
Max
TC. If they give it to a turf horse, Dan should get it, not a foreign owned horse who raced in the U.S. for one season. There are also plenty of good candidates among the dirt horses, such as that horse who won two legs of the TC or maybe Shared Belief.
Ann NC
But, what a season! Two great turf monsters.
Max
Ann NC. In the monster league, don’t forget The Big Beast. He’s just getting started. Had he not been injured after the King’s Bishop, he would have been in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and the Cigar Mile. Rest up Beast, your fans are with you.
Danimal, you’re the one. Vote Dan.
Ann NC
Yes, indeed, Max. Beast, listen to, Max! Behave, the league is waiting.

Max
Dan is totally amazing. I tracked down his farm address and sent a get well card to him. Think that he’s still at Keeneland, but Charlie will give it to him. Dan likes to get cards. All horses do. I love that horse. Kick butt Danny.
Moose, think big, 17.2 hands big!
Terry Crow
Max-Your post leaves an image in my mind of Mr. Ed reading a letter with those huge glasses he had.
Kathy
Terry,
All the baby boomers here remember fondly Mr. Ed! And remember Francis the talking Mule? Ahhhh…the 50s!
Terry Crow
Kathy-I always had to laugh when the reason for Donald O’Connor’s leaving the Francis series was revealed. He complained that the mule was getting more fan mail than he was. That was appropriate, since the mule was a better actor. Mickey Rooney ended up being Francis’ pal in a movie called Francis in the Haunted House.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Yes indeed, I remember looking forward to Mr. Ed each week — loved that show! I discovered Francis much later when a local TV station was running old movies on Saturday afternoons. I guess I had heard of Francis the Talking Mule but had never seen any of the movies until the late 70’s or early 80’s. I loved those movies — was Francis “channeling” Chill Wills’ voice? :-)
Cheers and Hugs
Terry Crow
Marshall-Chill Wills was, indeed, the voice of Francis. Cowboy actor Allan “Rocky” Lane was the voice of Mr. Ed.

November 13 Cherokee Devotional
We cannot let fear of making mistakes keep us from finding out what we can do. Only those who do nothing can avoid making a mistake-and even then, idleness is a mistake. The first step is hardest. But with every effort, the potential increases and confidence gathers. When we waver, it is natural instinct questioning if we are on safe ground-and whether we should go on. It is at our point of greatest questioning that we should gather our faith and force and move into new higher levels of self-confidence. Nothing can stop us when we know we have what it takes. Our reward is not just winning alone but the new reservoir of strength and spirit that is our resolve to do better and better.
In your actions and in your conversation do no idle thing. Speak not idle talk neither gossip…and do not give way to evil behavior.

Dear Kathy.Oh,boy I have made some mistakes in my life!!Very wet and windy in Wales today!Should be cancelled like Mondays!Marty’s got a famous fan one of the Jonas ‘brothers.Zoe has a double celebration today her gotcha day and dad’s birthday but we don’t know how old he is!Lovely to see a video of Joey eating his ice-cream or rather Alyse’s.I miss him very much.Sad story about the guy who posted the little chicks to his ex and she was going to throw them in the trash.Certainly a couple who were made for each other!Mango is going to get a cart for little Eddie in the hope he can find a home.Bless her she is doing so well.We could learn so much from animals!Have a great day.Love and hugs to you Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Stay warm and cozy indoors today. Marty is such a star. Zoe has a lot to celebrate today. She sure got a wonderful forever home. The video of Joey eating ice cream was so sweet. I feel so bad for the people at the station. You know they miss him so very much, as do we. Their pain is so intense, though since they knew him in the flesh. The baby chick story was so sad. Some people are monsters. It is so heartwarming seeing all the precious dogs who have Freedom Wheels thanks to Mango. Bless them! Have a good Friday Eve. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

TC – SO happy to see you back in the saddle in this special paddock….

Thanks, Anne. You are correct. This is a paddock like no other. Got a short one. Most of you probably know it, and it is not meant to be blasphemous. What is the difference between praying in church and praying at the race track? At the track you really mean it. @Max-Will have a horse joke on Saturday. Have to go to UCLA tomorrow and that takes me some time.

Deb E.
Team Z, could you please give us an update on both of Zenyatta’s boys, Coz and Zi? It would be nice to know how they’re coming along in their respective training regimens, and if they’re both healthy and happy in their new lives.
Max
In September the odds makers had Cozmic One at 100-1 to win the Kentucky Derby. Latest odds in November have him at 35-1.
Deb E.
Already? The bookies don ‘t even know if the Mosses and Mr. Sherriffs will decide to race Cozmic One in the 2015 TC, or if they’ll have Coz sit out the early season and race him later in the year like they decided to do with Zenyatta. If he’s anything like his giantess of a mother, Coz will need time to adjust his body to racing. I’d rather see him race later than too soon.
Max
It doesn’t matter to know if he is definitely running. No horse is definitely running yet. They base it all on the odds. The odds are coming down for Coz with each recorded practice run. Coz may not be a late developer
Ike his momma. His father won the Preakness. Go Coz.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.I love the name Danimal!!!You love him as much as I love Frankel and Kauto but we must never forget the Moose the champion of non-starters everywhere.SDG’s injury may be worse than at first suspected. He will have a bone-scan Wednesday but is “very comfortable”Great win for Champagne Fever today all roads lead to the Gold Cup at the festival! They should re-retire Sizing Europe chasing is a dangerous game and he owes us nothing! The Moose is free!Sheena.

@TC,GP–thanks for asking. No civil war lately, but interesting books on the 1900 Galveston, TX hurricane.

Dear Wise Dan Fans,
