Happy Thursday!
As promised, we have some photos of Cozmic One in training at Mayberry Farm. We were in Florida on a chilly March day to witness Coz gallop around the track. He spent the morning grazing and romping around his paddock. Post-workout, he was back in his stall for a video chat with Ann. A photo of Cozmic One as a foal, standing in a Lane’s End paddock with Zenyatta, hangs in his stall.
We didn’t leave without sitting down with the staff of Mayberry Farm. They generously answered questions for our Ask The Experts feature. We’ll share their answers on the blog over the next few weeks.
Enjoy!

He is BEAUTIFUL! He sure favors his mother.
Maryann Lane
Thank you for sharing the lovely photos of Cozmic One with us. He looks like a beautiful male version of his Mom. He moves like his Mom as well.

What a treat to find this new blog post and see a new video. Coz has such a lightness about him when he walks…such grace! We think he is the image of his regal mother, our Queen Zenyatta.

Looking at this handsome prince today it’s hard to imagine him as the gangley foal with huge ears! He has certainly grown into himself and looks every inch the offspring of Queen Zenyatta. There’s no doubt he knows he’s is something very special. Thanks for the post, pics and video, Team Z.
Judy in South Carolina
Like the way he MOVES!
Lori
So excited to see Coz with John soon. It looks like they’re doing a great job with him in Florida!
Janet Newman
Thanks for the update and video.
He is so gorgeous and I am running out of words to describe him each time I see him.
Just like his beautiful Mom, I am left speechless.
Carole Milby
He looks just like his beautiful mother. Thank you for sharing.

Looks like Coz has a little dance step in his jog! Love the photos too. Thanks for sharing.
Barbara Ashby
Do we know when he will have his first race?
ALENE
What a stunning young man he`s become. I think he resembles both Zenny and Bernardini. Can`t get much better then that! When I look at him and see him galloping the chills are going down my arm. It`s such a MIRACLE that has been created. He was born a thoroughbred and to race and that`s what he`ll do. Ann and Jerry will be on pins and needles at his first race…WOW… I will be ther come hell or high water. I can just imagine the crowd. It will be like seeing Zenyatta coming out on the track. Excited will not come close to describing the feelings everyone will have. Me, I`ll be a nervous wreck. Just keep him sound , healthy, and happy. Those are the important things. John and Mike come into play next. Thanx to evryone at Mayberry for sharing him with us…Lots of BIG hugs and kisses to Zenny, Ann, andJerry…The new baby will be here soon. This one will be a gorgeous FILLY….love you always, Alene

I agree with the others! He is Beautiful like his MOM, He walks and gallops like her! So happy to see him. He grew so fast from foaling to a young colt!
Paula Higgins
LOVED these pictures and the video!! Coz is a handsome boy and he seems like a very sweet boy as well. He looks happy too. Good to see. Thank you for posting all the above.

Dear Cosmic One you have so many fans already and they will be expecting so much from you being that you are the Prince out of our Great Queen Zenyatta. I can say this and it is you are so like her in many ways and will be expected to do as well as she did. We all will see you run one day and with that in my mind I will expect you to do what Cosmic One can do to the best if his ability. I do hope that you have your MOM’S personality and desire to win. COZ, you are so handsome and your fans are already in love with you so just learn to love your fans and work hard to be a winner for them. That is my advice and somehow I know that will be your intention when the time comes. Sending you a bundle of love your way and keep training to be a winner.
Carla
Don’t forget the Z. :) as in Cozmic one
quarterhossgal
What a handsome young colt!! I see a lot of Bernardini in his swager!! And of course, Queen Zenyatta. It will be awhile before his first race, hopefully in late fall or early next year. I’m sure that the Mosses and John S. will be sure he is ready before he races!!

Max,
Thanks for the Hovis update. Book 3!!! Can’t wait. Hovis, you have so much common sense and the others just don’t understand you. Kind of like Mad Moose. Maybe you two should meet and compare notes. Happy weekend to all. Free the Moose. Stay away from the tractors, Hovis. Go Dan!

Thanks Max; Poor Hovis and his tractors! Your mum will come around to understand you, I think!?? hah We love you Hovis!!

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Yes, the link came up! Thanks so much. I can see why the ospreys are so popular. They’re majestic! Holly watched the video with me and she was very interested when the ospreys were chirping and squawking. Sugar and Nikko ignored them. Too funny.

April 11 Cherokee Devotional
If the wind were a person, we would probably say something unpleasant about him. The more we try to ignore it, the more it seems to intrude, blowing away the cherry blossoms before we have seen them, whipping the lilacs and irises when their exquisite beauty is at its peak. But the wind is like circumstance; it serves a purpose to make the season go forward. Ir carries seeds of wildflowers and drops them in unexpected places to please us. It helps to unfurl the new leaves and to bring rain. Changes, like the wind, have to be endured at times. But eventually we understand and often like the results. It requires our patience-which gives us time to prepare for what is to come, the same way we have patience with what the Cherokee calls ga no le s gi, a windy person that blows and goes but means well.
As there is no alternative between a falsehood and a lie, they (the Cherokee) usually tell any person, you ‘lie,’ as a friendly negative to a reputed truth.

Coz, you’re gorgeous and you have a good rump on you too (Must have gotten that from mommy too!) will have a good “engine”
Here’s a neat birth announcement, Rachel’s got a baby 1/2 bro by Malibu Moon!
http://www.drf.com/news/half-brother-rachel-alexandra-foaled-kentucky
Don’t keep us waiting too long Z… hope for safe delivery and healthy all round for everyone!
Tiz Herself
Also, Rachel’s yearling brother by Lookin At Lucky has been named Dolphus! – not sure if that’s a moniker based on the author for To Kill a Mockingbird (I sheepishly admit I have not read this book yet – will add it to my reading list!)
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
It’s the name of Rachel’s breeder and original owner, Dolphus Morrison.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear TH:
Thank you for this link to RA’s 1/2 brother and for all the great links you post.
In reading the article on Lotta Kim’s new colt, I noticed that she is owned by Dolphus Morrison. Maybe that’s where Rachael’s yearling brother got his name. “To Kill A Mocking Bird” is a great book and the movie is worth watching too.
Can’t make up my mind on the Derby just yet either. Do like CC very much, Tapiture, Wildcat Red, Ring Weekend; oh, so many.
Love and Hugs, JB
Tiz Herself
Thank you!!! I forgot about Dolphus Morrison- you are right that makes more sense….
I have so many that I like, too… I still like Cairo Prince, is only a matter of whether he gets in the Derby or not. Having Toast of New York bypass the Derby in favor of other races most definitely works in his favor.
Social Inclusion could only improve off his 3rd in the Wood, however he may not have enough points to get in the Derby – I did read on one of the sites that the Preakness is his main goal – I think horses like Vicar’s In Trouble, Wildcat Red, Social Inclusion, Cairo Prince would all wreck havoc on the Preakness. Hoping Commissioner gets enough points to earn A.P. Indy his last chance at the Derby… Commissioner is certainly bred to be a Belmont horse and his breeding suggests that would be no issue as well. Commissioner reminds me a lot of Will Take Charge, he’s getting rolling and I hope he gets the chance to show what he’s capable of. Take nothing away from Orb last year, however Will got blocked as he was making his move.
And there is Hoppertunity – if anyone knows how to get a horse to the Derby it is Baffert. Hopp’s 1/2 won the Oaks last year and he looks like he’s ready to peak at the right time.
Constitution has been absolutely freaky in his three races. California Chrome was also freaky.
Candy Boy could rebound – he had an off day, hard to say what kind of horse he is yet.
Conquest Titan needs to be in the top three and I suspect he will be… Birdstone’s got a Derby winner already in Mine That Bird and Belmont winner Summer Bird – and the female family is all who’s who. Kingmambo , Seattle Slew, Miesque, etc… if Borel rides him I have all the faith in him… he just has to qualify.
Love the horses… one of the few parts of the life that is consistently renewing the spirit :) And I seem to retain more pedigree stats and horse racing bio than I did in ACTUAL math and other aspects of school – I guess in the family a little as my uncle who passed last year could recite all the Quarter Horse lines.
Tiz Herself
Best of luck to Strong Mandate in the weekend’s Arkansas Derby… I have not lost faith in him and will be interesting to see how he handles without the blinkers.
Conquest Titan, Commissioner, Tapiture, Ride on Curlin…. so hard to choose!!! lol.
I will always cheer for a Tiz baby
shirleeinindy
Tiz, I know what you mean about so many to choose from. I am looking at Conquest Titan since there are so many speed horses in the mix, but who knows. If I knew a lot I would have been able to pick more than 2 Derby winners in the last 10 years.
I second what Barbara said about “To Kill A Mockingbird.” Good stuff.
Tiz Herself
I will most definitely try to read To Kill A Mockingbird —- it may be easier to start than Wuthering Heights (I have that one on the go right now as I have not read it and it is a classic in itself)
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Max–whatever would we do without our Friday Hovis? Thanks.
@Tiz Herself–please do not delay in reading “To Kill a Mockingbird”. You’ll be glad you did. (former English teacher talking here, so please forgive).
