Zenyatta News, Cozmic One

Training Days

Happy Thursday!

As promised, we have some photos of Cozmic One in training at Mayberry Farm. We were in Florida on a chilly March day to witness Coz gallop around the track. He spent the morning grazing and romping around his paddock. Post-workout, he was back in his stall for a video chat with Ann. A photo of Cozmic One as a foal, standing in a Lane’s End paddock with Zenyatta, hangs in his stall.

We didn’t leave without sitting down with the staff of Mayberry Farm. They generously answered questions for our Ask The Experts feature. We’ll share their answers on the blog over the next few weeks.

Enjoy!

Trina – Thank you for the beautiful birthday poem – I’ve said it before, you re amazingly talented. I am late in reading your poem and thanking you for it. I have been away from the site for a couple of weeks due to my new job. It was very hectic getting adjusted and I have put in several 11 hour days due to the workload. I don’t like to be away from the Queen and everyone on this site, and I hope to be back daily again.

Celeste, I do not come on as often as you do but, I keep thinking and praying that Z is not in too much discomfort. I should not compare how I felt in those last days before giving birth, but I imagine it must be somewhat like it!
Would we get an immediate announcement or would it be the next day? I keep my nails short because of the outdoor work, if I didn’t they would be bitten down short by now!

    Dear Z Fans:

Checking in to see if our new Bundle of Joy is here. Pace, pace. Here’s an update to help pass the time while we wait. Pace, pace.

Just got back from the farm and it was a fun day. Everyone brought food and we all pitched in to do some rock picking. The ring is like a bottomless pit of rocks, but I think we made some progress.

Hudson had four new shoes put on this week and she was an absolute angel. The only time she flinched was when the farrier worked on her foot that is most painful from the Thrush like infection. Deb and Amanda tried some new med since then and her foot is much improved. She was so mellow today, she let me give her a big kiss on the cheek. She also behaved very well yesterday when the vet came to give the horses some booster shots.

Charlie was in his paddock and came over to see me when I called to him. Angela said he was running like the wind in the paddock this morning. Wish I could have seen that.

We have a surprise on the farm. One of the boarders, Jackie, bought a Quarter Horse last year named Ruby. She had the vet check her and he said she was overweight and to cut down on feed. Turns out Ruby is pregnant. Jackie had no idea that she was pregnant when she bought her. She told me she feels so bad that she put her on a diet and now she gives her extra grain and hay and treats. We do not know who the sire is or anything about him. Everyone is so excited to see the new foal. Ruby looks very huge and Angela is monitoring her. Will let you know when the new baby comes and will take some photos. Love and Hugs, JB

Yes, they are a nice group of people at the farm and they made the a mundane task fun.

Funny Sue, one of the girls was saying that she wished Angela could call us when Ruby’s time for foaling comes so that we could be there. I have never seen a foal born and it would be incredible to witness the miracle of birth. Sounds like you know first hand. I think it must be an overwhelming experience. Love and Hugs, JB

        • Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)

          April 13, 2014 at 3:57 pm

Judy B. and SueF; This is interesting. I am just reading an interesting book one of my friend volunteers of the horse Sanctuary gave me to read. It indicated that only those who the horse knows and trusts extremely well should be physically known to be nearby, that is why they are monitored via camera, because a horse can actually stop the process if she feels uncomfortable.
Then after the birth, they say it is a critical time where there can not be interruption of any kind of the bonding that will occurr with momma and foal; they called it “imprinting” of one another which can take up to a few hours.
If this is correct, I think one needs to be several stalls away and then as this person of trust watches by the stall and then gives you a motion to quietly come to see the birth as it is happening, that could possibly work, maybe. I do not mean to suggest that I know everything about horses etc. because I never had one, and I would love to see a foal born too, but I just thought I’d pass on this interesting stuff I read.
          hugs, Sally B

      Dear BGG,
How awful — another senseless act of violence.

Did anyone watch the races on tv yesterday? They did a piece on foaling at Aerdie(sp)Farm and that one mommie to be looked so huge! Poor thing. Think she was due any minute! Hope all went well with her. Found the whole thing very interesting because of what our Zenny is going through right now.

    Dear Z’sters,
After dealing with an irritable bladder during the past year, I will be undergoing a biopsy tomorrow afternoon. Hoping that the results will be negative for anything really bad. I don’t think it should be anything but inflammation; however, fingers are crossed.
Please send out a few positive thoughts and prayers for me. Thank you all!
