As you know, 12 Zenyatta was successfully weaned on August 14.
Three days before, he and mom, along with their paddock mates, moved to the barn and paddock where they had lived when he was a foal. The mares spent three nights there with their colts—familiar surroundings for all!
On the third morning, after breakfast, Charles calmly explained what was to happen while 12Z listened attentively. Zenyatta continued to eat. All understood and were completely relaxed. Then, Mom and the two other mares were led back to the barn and paddock they know as home.
Shortly thereafter, 12Z and pals were turned out and were soon grazing and playing together. Back in their paddock, Zenyatta and her friends were happily grazing as well.
Their human friends, the amazing Lane’s End staff, continue to monitor them, and all reports are good! Yay!
We’ll keep you informed and updated.

So glad to hear Mom and Son are doing well.

So important that horse understand what is about to happen to them. They truly do understand when things are explained to me. Bravo to Lane’s End for taking that approach too. Makes me love LE even more.

Of course both did well, and the little Prince listened attentively. I’m sure Zenny, after asking her “girlfriends” all about being in foal, and foaling and the “after”, learned from them that weaning was a GOOD thing for all. And of course, Lane’s End, the staff, and Charles particularly, made sure everything went smoothly and that everyone was on board. Thank you as always Team Z and Lane’s End, for the updates, the pictures, and including all her fans in this new part of Zenny’s and the Prince’s lives.

Casey, we love the way you explained things. Yes, All of Team Z, including those at LE are wonderful, caring people. This latest picture of the Queen is beautiful. We can picture 12Z running around with his buddies, waiting for the next life lessons to unfold.

What a wonderful place for Zenny to be- around people that know that horses understand a whole lot more than most give them credit for. Thank you for your kindness & love.

So glad to hear mother and son were cool with it.

Splendid!

And I was all worried about how they would fare with this separation – this is a relief and great news. I guess I should have expected as much with Zenyatta being who she is and having raised her boy right. Add the expertise of Lanes End and it was a winning combination. Whew! And we get to do it all over again with Z13! :-)

Amazing…happy that everyone is adapting great, so far! I think Zenny knows her
“little guy” is still close by and she knows he is in good hands. Thanks for updating on this stage. Not being from a horse family, only lots of cats, dogs and llamas, I find all this so very interesting! I still think all of you have a wonderful job at Lane’s End!
ronni
Well, seems as though Zenny and 12Z are just calm by nature. Looks as though everyone is very happy. I love hearing about how well-cared for they are at LE! You guys are terrific. High Hooves to all!

Team Z & Charles,
So appreciate the update.
I know we sometimes seem like a group of overbearing grannys.
But, we love Z & her colt so much.
So, glad to know all is well in their world.

I just knew it would go smoothly …. Our girl is a pro and she’s passed it on to her Prince. The staff has to take a lot of credit for it going so well
Diana Stuart - Well Done LE!
Dear L.E.:
Kudos. A very well thought out process! From a horse mindset, going back to the original new-foal barn and paddock, then an after breakfast turn out for the girls in their current paddock is brilliant. Familiar surroundings for all. (Of course it helps to have a magnificent sprawl of landscape to pull it off.)

Yay! I have a horrible story to tell everyone. It is about the dark side of *certain* rednecks. This one was a heartless B-word. More later.

Thank you so much for the update and the wonderful photos illustrating that all is well with those we love. We are so fortunate to be included under the umbrella of generosity Team Z continues to exhibit by sharing our beloved Queen and the adventures of her growing son. Thank you, Team Z and Lane’s End.

A great expression for all involved and (perhaps name for 12Z ) with the staff at Lane’s End: WELL DONE LOVE! On to the next phase of Zenny and her prince’s lives. Thank you for keeping us all a part of your family.

Thank you for letting us know how it all went… I love the image of the staff explaining what was going to happen and the precious horsies taking it all in. Please keep us updated on their progress in this new phase of their lives – although I am sure Zenyatta will continue to handle everything beautifully as always and her baby boy learned many lessons well from his mom.
