Happy Tuesday!
Zenyatta’s youngest boy was weaned last week, and it all went very well. Alys sent us some photos before and after, and as you can see the boys are quite large and independent at this time. Z is happy to be back with her old friend Life Is Sweet and they definitely seem to share a bond. We’ll have more photos to share with you soon.

They called Orfevre AWESOME. I’ve seen a beautiful picture of him this morning. Just a few minutes ago.
Oh my if they all go to the Arc Orfevre, Kizuna, Ruler of the World, And more, what an Arc this is going to be.
Please everyone forgive me this morning, but I am so excited for Orfevre.

Awesome Orfevre strolls to Prix Foy success
By David Baxter RacingPost.com 3:22PM 15 SEP 2013
Report: Longchamp, Sunday
Qatar Prix Foy (Group 2) colts, fillies & mares, 4yo+, 1m4f
ORFEVRE (Yasutoshi Ikee/Christophe Soumillon) waltzed to a second consecutive victory in the Prix Foy, as last year’s Arc runner-up strengthened Japan’s hand for the Longchamp showpiece next month.
Having snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last year, the five-year-old demonstrated that he still oozes class, eased down to score by Christophe Soumillon on an afternoon where Treve and Japanese Derby hero Kizuna had already advertised their Arc claims

Oh, you just made my day. Thank You so much for the video. Had been looking everywhere for it. Isn’t he just beautiful. Oh my whenever he made his move he looked so relaxed. Just wonderful. I am going to save this video to my favorites. Could watch it over and over again.
ARC , here we come.
Max
Peggy. He looked like it was no effort. He’s left something in the tank for the Arc. Go Big O.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Max – speaking of video (I’m trying to get caught up here), thanks so much for the Secretariat video. At that time in my life, I probably would have recognized his name but really knew nothing about him so being able to “see” him run (as well as the up close shots) is a great treat. I think our friend Brenda said that she was actually there that day at Woodbine.
Max
Sandy. It is also my recollection that Brenda mentioned this when she told us that she and Vic are heading today to Woodbine for Dan’s race. That must have been an amazing day for her. The people were thrilled to see Big Red run on that day, and on turf for the first time. Nothing got in the way of Big Red when he decided to turn it on. No pacemaker was ever needed to control the race as was the case with Frankel. Red knew exactly when to run. It was merely a case of letting him go. And he set records in the TC races that have yet to be surpassed.
HeidiK, Vallejo,Ca (bride to be)
What a great win by your Big O! Hand ride, ears pricked, no problem.

Kizuna Stops ‘World’ in Prix Niel
By Myra Lewyn, @MyraLewyn The Blood-Horse Updated: Sunday, September 15, 2013
Japanese Derby (Jpn-I) winner Kizuna prevailed in a tight finish over Epsom Derby
(Eng-I) Ruler of the World in Qatar Prix Niel (Fr-II) Sept. 15 at Longchamp.
The Deep Impact colt launched a swift outside rally and won by a short head in a race regarded as the 3-year-old trial for the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I).
Kizuna announced himself as a top contender for Europe’s premier middle-distance race Oct. 6 at Longchamp.
Ruler of the World, the favorite with Racing Post, boosted his own Arc credentials after a troubled trip. Having lost his position when the tempo picked up, he resolutely picked up to challenge between rivals and just missed by a slight margin.

Sheena. Ruby is a fine jockey. He’s racing now almost exclusively for Willie Mullins.
I saw the background in Moosie’s photo of him on the gallops. He does have a nice place to live.

judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, very beautiful. Congrats to Dan, JV, Za Approval, GG, Trade Storm and GS. Did you hear JV say Dan was “getting rank” with him in the post parade. He was probably thinking, “Let’s get this done”. All JV had to do was hold on. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Yes, I heard that. Dan may be going solo. He needs no pacemaker and maybe no jockey? Take a look at his times at a mile and compare them to Frankel’s. It’s an eye opener. Dan’s usually also on a tight turning course, except for Woodbine which has that huge homestretch. He’s improving with age. He also looks like finely polished copper.
I laughed at the poor guy who had to lead Trade Storm. Euros as you know don’t use ponys. They usually just go to the gate on their own. Trade Storm was not used to being lead by a human that far and he was giving this guy a real work out.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I know. Dan’s time is considerably faster. Yes, if any horse could go solo, it would be Dan.
Poor Trade Storm he was reluctant, but he finished a good third. Always an adventure in racing. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. I just listened to the interview with Uncle Johnny again. It’s a little hard to follow because, unlike Dan, Uncle Johnny was out of breath from excitement. He said that Dan was calm in the post parade, but he became rank during the race and even came off the bridle. Johnny gave in and off Dan went to set a race and course record. I cannot believe it. Johnny looked back a few times during the run down the homestretch while Dan ignored him and got down to business.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Great run by Dan and WOO HOO for Za Approval. He is beautiful (and the horse I wanted to bet on in one of the earlier cappin’ contest races before he scratched). Today I made a little “real” money! :-)

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Wow! Wise Dan really showed everyone something according to what I hear as I do not have access. Congrats Wise Dan!!
Just coming on here briefly to tell you how our Animal Awarenes day went. For starters, it was an all day shower of rain, so those of us that could bring canopy shelters for Tinker, Tex, another mini horse, and others for some exhibits, it was at least for those that came some shelter to step into some shelter. Our crafts, raffels, food and beverage were inside a beautiful building, a Cedar Valley retreat that has dining otherwise, and a spa for visitors on a retreat. However us horse people to be with our horses and Tex, a miniture horse owned by a volunteer, and to set up for Tinker, who was absolutely the greatest, we were half in the rainand half under the canopy!
Oh, I was smart, I dressed in rain gear, I mean heavy duty rain gear as I have had it for years since I walked my dog in any inclement weather. But I sure did not ever want to look in a mirror!!haha Numerous people commented you sure look like you dressed for the weather. I probably looked like a wet green lawn bag!! We did have to call Ute , who was sending over one of her awesome trained gorgeous quarter horses for rides with children, as we had no way of getting him into shelter when he was not in use. And, would there be enough children arriving to be placed on this horse and ride in the rain. Disappointingly it was a somewhat fair show. I believe, most of what was spent on raffel, food etc. was by us volunteers or our husbands that came. The one thing that will boost our sale for feed came from my sons favorite lady who works for the big Lake Express, boating one from Wi. to Michigan. She offered two round trip tickets for a silent auction.
Those that did come in this weather, were truly animal lovers. The kids loved Tinker, and so did I as well as her owner; she is an act in herself and I mean that very complimentary!! We only brought out our rescue horses once to the fence as one of head people said unless there are more people coming, our horses wish to be in their stalls. That was disappointing. Jackie, a long time experienced horse person with some disability attempted to bring out later just one horse, Fancy, the oldest,32, but he was not happy without his cronies. She just about got him 2/3 of the way to the fence, when our most layed back horse did not wish to go any further, wanting to be with the herd. She settled him down several times, but in the end, as any step further he began to rear and circle. So she let him go. But, what a beautiful site that was to see this black Arabian run back to where his buddies were. What can you do but make the best of it. I still feel I have a hat on!! We had exhibitors that still showed in spite of the rain, and I think they have a wonderful heart.
Learn by experience they say; I say not on a Packer Sunday, rain, or other fairs going on nearby. ha ha I do not know what that would leave us!!
Congrats to Wise Dan and others on their wins!!
I pray for all those affected in Colorado… especially Dawn who I know is there.
We are a wonderful group of volunteers who do whatever for the love of our horses.
I am pooped right now. Goodnight and hugs, Sally B

Sally,
Maybe some Packer players would be willing to help raise money for the horses. I know Aaron Rodgers and Clay Mathews and others go to the KD each year.
Hey, you never know unless you ask.
P.S. It was a great win!!
Maryp NY
Also, forgot to mention Packer retirees Paul Hornung and Willie Davis co-own Titletown Five with D Wayne Lucas so there are some people connected to the team who are interested in horses. You never know who would lend some help unless they are asked.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Mary!! Thank you, Yes it would not hurt to ask. Perhaps I will attempt a letter to see if any would wish to sponsor a horse each year!! I would love to personally collect a check from Aaron!!! He is adorable I think!! Sally B
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
One more thing Mary, I forgot to mention the thrill of collecting one from Clay. Many in Wi. would envy me for sure!! ha hugs, Sally B
Terry Crow
Well, we know Paul Hornung like to gamble as that was the reason for his and Alex Karras’ suspension when they were active players. It might be a good idea to contact the sports editor of the local paper as well as the team. The Packers are unique in one way. The residents of Green Bay actually own the team.

Sally, I definitely agree!

JudyB. Morton Fink is a good guy too. He said at Woodbine that the temptation for some with a horse like Dan is to treat Dan like a money machine and just run him everywhere for the winnings, but that is not going to happen while he and LoPresti are in charge. Very glad that Dan is in good hands. I now see only too well what LoPresti meant by saying Dan is like no other horse that he has ever trained. He’s a wonder horse. A grand grand ole chestnut with tons of personality. Dan’s taking the week off in Kenneland and will just rest, maybe until November. And he’s racing next year if the racing gods smile on him and us. I’m hoping that they do.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Agree with everything you said. Hope Dan comes back next year.
I wonder, when he does retire, if he will go to the Kentucky Horse Park or Old Friends where his fans will be able to visit him. That would be wonderful. I think Mr. Lopresti will be very sad when Dan does retire. He really loves his boy. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Morton Fink says that Dan will race as long as he is healthy and able to do it. He said at Woodbine after the race that words cannot express how he feels about Dan. He probably loves the other two Dans too. One good thing about calling all of your horses Dan is that you never forget their names! The filly however is called Enchanting Lisa.

Shanghai Bobby to Return Friday at Belmont
By Blood-Horse Staff Updated: Sunday, September 15, 2013 6:40 PM
Shanghai Bobby, 2012 champion 2-year-old male, will make his first start in more than five months when he competes in the $100,000 Aljamin overnight stakes Sept. 20 at Belmont Park.
The Aljamin, race 3 on the card, is restricted to 3-year-olds at 6 1/2 furlongs.
Excerpt from article
In April he was diagnosed with a pelvic stress fracture that forced him to miss the
Triple Crown races. With a strong performance Friday, Shanghai Bobby could target November races like the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I) at Santa Anita or the Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I) at Aqueduct Racetrack, trainer Todd Pletcher said.

Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Judy,
Yes I did see your posts, thanks for sharing that info. I am so glad this horse has the right owners and trainers that won’t run him into the ground. He so loves to race and has that very special “will to win” that makes all the difference. I love GOD too but I just feel that Danny Boy has done it all and deserves HOY. hugs
RIP Sir Henry Cecil on this day of your memorial service.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sue Fredrick:
I agree. I think Wise Dan is an extraordinary horse. He has won at seven different tracks in his lifetime, including an All Weather surface in his Maiden win and a win on Dirt at Churchill Downs. Five of his last nine wins were at different tracks and different grass courses. The Breeders Cup Mile will be very exciting. WD gets my vote for HOY.
I have nothing but respect for Game On Dude. He is a wonderful horse too. Love and Hugs, JB
Terry Crow
There are actually some who are pushing Game on Dude for HOY. It will probably hinge on the results of the BC. Is GOD a better horse than Wise Dan? Doubtful.
shirleeinindy
Terry, I don’t know which is the best horse. They both race on different surfaces and have different styles. Perhaps we can have co-HOY.
Terry Crow
shirlee-Everything will probably hinge on the results of the BC. Game on Dude is in much the same position he was last year before the BCC was run, in which he flopped. Wise Dan, on the other hand, could not have run better than he did last year, beating horses such as Animal Kingdom and POE. I expect Dan to repeat. I also expect GOD to repeat his race, although the competition such as Fort Learned is not as sharp. Drosselmeyer handled GOD in both the Belmont and BCC and I expect the same will happen this year, just by a different horse. Mike Smith could make the difference, though.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Terry, I really like both these horses and find your comments and others interesting and informative. Wish I could have seen WD’s recent race; impressive!! Waiting for the BC! Sally B
Terry Crow
Sally-Just my personal opinion. If Game on Dude wins the BCC and is named HOY over Wise Dan it would be OK with me. Just don’t think it is going to happen.
