Happy Tuesday!
Zenyatta’s youngest boy was weaned last week, and it all went very well. Alys sent us some photos before and after, and as you can see the boys are quite large and independent at this time. Z is happy to be back with her old friend Life Is Sweet and they definitely seem to share a bond. We’ll have more photos to share with you soon.

@Dear Ingrid–Trina said it so beautifully that there is nothing I can add except to say I’m praying for your peace and comfort and giving thanks you had such a great mom. She was a gift to you. Big Texas hugs.
@Brenda– what good times you are having with the horses. You will be able to give us all tips.
@Sue FL CPRC–thanks for the news that your mom’s surgery is over. Wishing her the best as she perseveres through the next step. God bless you , your mom, and the other caregivers.
@Dawn Conrad–stay safe, friend. We are so familiar with the area. Have gone through Lyons every summer for about 25 years in the 70’s-90’s on the way to Estes Park. Prayers for the folks there and for those in NJ. We know people from here who have a house in E.P. that is in danger from the flooding.

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Hi all Zsters! Our weather men are calling for mostly cloudy skies with showers on our Animal Awareness Day, Sunday. I pray they are wrong…80 percent of the time they are, so that we can have a good turn out. It is our biggest fund raiser event, but I will keep my rain gear in my car to be with the horses. Crafts, food etc. do have ability to set up in a building; but it just won’t be the same. I will also be with for some time a miniture horse named Tex who is only 26 inches at the shoulders!! Children will just love him for sure as well as Tinker!! Curious about Tinker, google You tube and type in Tinker Salvation Army Bell Ringer. You can see him in action.
Tex, privately owned, visits nursing homes and as the owner stated “wearings his build a bear shoes” so he does not slip on the floor!! He has to be the greatest therapy! hugs to all, Sally B
My dear sweet Zenyatta, always thinking of you,
goodnight, sweet dreams, with love n kisses on your soft nose, and to your two handsome sons. Auntie Sally B

@Barbara Such good news about Capona. Will relight her candle PUC. Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena and JudyB. . Read that they may scratch Galileo Rock if the turf is too soft. Good idea to wait and see who runs. Like Gosden as a trainer. He’s had a lot of success with the St. Leger. Won it with Big D’s Lucarno. One of his owners has a lot of Big Ds.

Dear Max Unlike me, I’m sure Wise Dan is tucked up in his “bed”. Weather sounds good for racing ,is it a horse called Trade Storm Gary is riding? We’ve been promised a stormy autumnal weekend for the St Leger hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Yes, Gary is riding Trade Storm. His trainer says that Trade Storm has settled nicely into his stall and will like the flat turf at Woodbine. Guess he missed the description of the Woodbine turf course because it is not flat. There is a 3 foot drop from the backstretch to the home stretch. However they can run a mile race with only one turn because the course is larger than any North American turf course. So far US horses have dominated on that course. Hoping that the trend continues with Danny.
Max
Sheena and JudyB. The track record time in the Woodbine Mile is held by a filly, Ventura. She set it in 2009. She ran in the colors of Juddmonte and was trained by Bobby Frankel.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I remember her. I didn’t think she broke the track record though. I thought she came close. Will look it up. Hugs, JB
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Just checked Ventura’s time in the 2009 Woodbine Mile. It was 132.04. The record is 131.84 by Royal Regalia set in 2004. Very close time.
Hope Dan makes it a double. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Royal Regalia ran 9th to Leroidesanimaux in the Woodbine Mile in 2005. Uncle Johnny was riding. The Woodbine Mile is a particular race at Woodbine, and the record is held by the filly Ventura. RR did run a mile at Woodbine in the time, but not in the Woodbine Mile.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Oh, I see what you mean. Ventura ran the record time in the Woodbine Mile, but Royal Regalia has the record time in the mile distance at Woodbine. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Both were very good times. Hugs, JB

Pati-Caz Girl
Dear Z Family,
I am going to the American Gold Cup this Sunday and I’ll get to see some of the best riders that America has to offer competing. Beezy Madden will be signing things for us, and she has even done a clinic at Cazenovia before. She’s friends with my professor! Isn’t that cool?
I’ll make sure to take lots of pictures for you guys to see!
Have a good week to everyone and my thoughts go out to those who have lost a loved one in the last few weeks. I don’t want to disrespect someone by not mentioning them, and I haven’t caught up on all of the post quite yet.
Good to see that the youngest prince is doing well and Momma Z is with her best friend. All is good in that regard.

O.K. now Orfevre need to hear something from you.. OK now its been a hard week, you need to get your PR people sending something out on you. Pictures, tweets, Ok now I’m pacing. Love Ya.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Does anyone know the answer to this. Don’t know how I feel about this topic mainly because I suppose I don’t know enough about its effects on horses.
In France are horse’s allowed to race on Anti=bleeding medications. I know you know why i’m asking (Orfevre) and his last episode of bleeding from the lungs. Some wonderful trainers seem to be for it and other people seem to be so against it.
Don’t know how I feel. Can it hurt the horse. But, seems like the horse can be terribly hurt from the bleeding. Is there a right answer.
Don’t know if Orfevre has ever raced on Anti Bleeders or not. His last race I’m not sure but I had not heard of him having this problem before. Worried.
Kathy R.
Dear Peggy (N):
I may be wrong, but I understood that lasix (anti-bleeding medication) as a “normal” part of horse racing was only allowed in the USA. It is certainly not allowed in Australia, unless it is administered outside racing (that is under the advice of a vet, if a horse has an initial bleed) and Hong Kong is probably the most stringent of the racing authorities in that they don’t allow most medications unless it is administered for non-competing horses. And I also believe similar stringent rules apply to European racing. ( But Sheena could advise on this.) In Australia, horses face a lifetime ban if they bleed for a third time. And lasix is considered to leach calcium from the bones of young horses, making them susceptible to racing fractures, so is not supported in Australia. Cheers, KathyR.
Max
Kathy R. When Euro horses come to the US or Canada to race, they most often use Lasix. There are pros and cons to its use, but it is strange for some Euros to be so against its use, to criticise US trainers for employing it and then use it themselves when it is available.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Max,
Amen. I’ve heard them criticize the US even to the point of calling it the “Bleeders Cup” and then they send horses who bleed over here to run. Sounds a little hypocritical to me. I don’t know yet which side of the issue to come down on myself until more proof is shown, but I do not like hypocracy in any issue. hugs
Kathy R.
Dear Max:
Am aware that non-lasix countries use it when they race in the US: some of the horses that bled here in Australia were sent to race in the US for that very reason, and all failed, so don’t know how to explain that one. Bart Cummings thought the use of lasix when So You Think raced in the US was responsible for his failure, and the owners/trainers of Scenic Blast felt the same way when they raced him there. The weight reduction issue around lasix use is something trainers here are dubious about in terms of post race recovery. But so-called hypocracy aside, the fact is that the US stands alone on this issue – and the issue of various other substances.
Max
Kathy R. US is actually not alone. Canadians do the same thing, and Euro horses race with it in Canada too. Maybe the Euro and other horses might lose because the US horses are better racers?

Barbara,
Thanks for keeping us informed I admire these rescuers so much for keeping their cool as I’d go up to them, scream, yell, put my hands around their neck and strangle them. I know that sounds terrible which is why I couldn’t do the initial rescue. Once they were at the new home I’d enjoy the rehabilitation part, giving the love attention and nourishment needed. These people are saints. hugs

Orfevre primed for Prix Foy repeat victory
Posted by: AAP+ Filled in: International Horse Racing | 14/9/2013 at 12:06pm
Orfevre makes his eagerly awaited return to French soil when he lines up in Sunday’s Prix Foy at Longchamp.
Brought over from Japan to land this trial last year, the chestnut suffered an agonising defeat in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe when idling in front inside the final furlong and getting collared by Solemia.
Then beaten a nose in the Japan Cup, Yasutoshi Ikee’s star made only one more appearance when an easy winner of a Grade Two at the end of March before being sidelined, reportedly with a bleeding issue.
Orfevre’s life did not get any easier once he had touched down back in Chantilly as he was kicked in the nose by his work companion Blarney Stone prior to his first serious pipe-opener.
However, he has returned to his exercise regime and has been working nicely on the Les Aigles gallop under big-race pilot Christophe Soumillon.

Sheena. You can never count out Coolmore or a Montjeu. I see that there is talk of racing him in the Arc instead of Camelot. It is ironic that Coolmore won the St. Leger today when they so wanted a win last year with Camo. The racing gods work in mysterious ways.
Yes, Kauto is hard on ipads and phones, but thus far Hovis is looking after his phone. He was planning a call to the Kiwi.

thanks to Team Zenyatta and Lane’s End for the update. I am going to Secretariat’s celebration this coming weekend at Clairborne Farm in Paris KY. Hope I will get to see Blame and tell him we are not mad at him and he is a fine horse. It just wasn’t in the cards for Zenyatta to win.
