Here are today’s new photos of 12 Zenyatta, who weighed in on Friday at 191 lbs. Today he and his mom were turned out with the mare Spooky Minister and her three week old Candy Ride colt. They kept to themselves today, but we think they’ll be best buds in no time!
We’ll have more photos for you soon.

So good to see new pictures of Queen Z and Z12. Thank you for keeping us updated. Please give Tasty a hug for us.
I know Zenny will make new friends fast.
Kim
Thanks for the pics. He is adorable and she is, well, the Queen.
Please give us an official update on Tasty.
Love You, Big Mare,
Kim
Max
I looked up the details on Spooky. She is a 9 year old gray, but she does not appear to have raced. It will be interesting to see if her colt is a gray.
Tasty: Are you going for a record?
Amanda
Spooky Minister has 5 foals all by Candy Ride. She has two gray/roan foals and two dark bay/brown foals. It doesn’t say what color the newest one is though. I guess well hopefully see when they give us some more pictures.
Luv'n Zenny & Zunior
Heidi, the Moss’s have already said publically that her foals would not be for sale. They are in the thoroughbred business too so they will race and breed her foals in the future.

Oh, WOW! Thank you so very much for generously sharing this update and these wonderful new photos. 12Zenyatta is growing so fast and looks like he’s already pretty speedy – woohoo!! I love how Zenyatta is watching over him – she appears to be such a doting mom. Once she gets used to the new mare and foal in her paddock I’m sure they will become fast friends. Zenyatta has acclimated so well to all her different situations and transitioned from her first paddock pals to being good friends with Tasty, I’m sure it will just be a matter of time.
Here is hoping that our dear Tasty will be foaling her little one soon! Bless her heart!
Once more — thank you so much for the update and photos! Y’all are the Best!!
jane raymond
It really kinda sucks that Tasty didnt have her baby closer to when Zen had hers. I would have liked to see the two of them remain paddock mates – they seemed to be such good friends, seemed to get along well.

“Under Momma’s watchful eye”………………….. Isn’t he gorgeous? he’s going to be one handsome young sire one day.

Great photos, so beautiful. Even though Z and Spooky’s boys aren’t best buddies yet, I wish they had provided a photo of Spooky and her little Spook.
Amanda
I couldn’t find any pictures of her but here is one of her foals.

This is interesting. Holy Candy is on the Derby trail.

Amanda,
Thanks for the link to the article on Holy Candy! He looks gorgeous!
Cheers!
Terry Crow
I doubt that Holy Candy has enough time to amass sufficient graded stakes earnings to qualify for the Derby.
signofthetimes
Also, he is bred by Jenny Craig in KY who
Owns the mare. Guess she won’t mind the
Publicity and maybe a boost for weight loss
After birth in mares. HA !!!! HA !!!!

May have not gotten owner’s permission.

Thanks for the update – that baby has gained 61 pounds! I’m sure Zenyatta and her baby boy will make fast friends with their new paddock mates and have lots of fun!

Baby Z is growing so fast! His “star” on his forehead looks to me like a big, wet kiss that hasn’t been colored in! Thank you so much LE for these updates. We can’t get enough of Z and her sweet baby boy!

I still think of the FULL MOON that was high in the sky the night he graced us with his presence :-)

I guess we got our biggest wish – happy and healthy – even if he just missed March 9th!
I keep thinking of “Z” names…Special Z, Z Legacy, King Z, Z Best…but I’m sure the Mosses will think of something much better…
JAG / L♥VE Auntie Judy / So. CA
♥ True – healthy and happy!

I see the Full Moon, I think of my Mom and Zenyatta…my favorite ladies. I am so glad LIS had a fily, but I was so sure Tasty would have a fily, but she has a beautiful son. I need to go check out Tapit, I did not expect him at all. What a lucky guy he is..wonder if Prince B is jealous???

I will just die when they take Zentatta Baby away from her
Margaret I'm ECSTATIC!!!!!
No you won’t. It will be a HUGE relief for Z. For one thing 12Z won’t be nursing much any more (more like nursing at night–like a bottle at bedtime). Hell be eating totally on his own. Hell be independent and ready.
Yes, it will be a tough time. You can tell by the frantic calls back and forth. But LE’s knows what they are doing. They will take care of both. They will ensure the safety of both.
And Z will most likely be pregnant with 13Z which will be putting a beginning drain on her. In the wild this is normal for a mare to be nursing one while pregnant with one on board.
If LE didn’t separate them Z would be weaning the colt on her own. Nipping, kicking, flattened ears. It wouldn’t be pretty. This is the safest quickest method for all.

Dear Margaret,
We all have our opinions, comments and concerns, which we are welcome to post freely here. There’s no need to be harsh to anyone, there are plenty of other places on the internet for that.
This is a place to find kindness and joy together.
LaurieK
I don’t see harshness here. I see a lot of really useful information about the weaning process, which I would imagine a lot of people here really don’t know much about. I sure didn’t know any of this. Thanks, Margaret, for the good info.
JAG / L♥VE Auntie Judy / So. CA
I agree! There’s a way of expressing or sharing information – but to tell someone how to “feel” is truly condescending!! We all have our opinions, but having a sharp tongue is not appreciated – were not ALL geniuses LOL Contrary to what some believe :-)))) Think before speaking (posting)………..
Sharon in Atlanta, GA
Thanks, Margaret for the good information, as always. We appreciate you.
sharon in seattle
yes, good info. thanks for sharing, Margaret
Paula Higgins
Margaret, you are right. That is exactly what will happen. Either they wean them or Mom will do it for them LOL. Both will be well cared for. The diary was stopped because it was time for another beginning. I think it is working very well. They keep us informed and we get to chat.
Zenyen
A tad dramatic don’t you think?
At 5-6 months when Z12 is weaned he will be like a teenager going off to college. More interested in rough housing with his colt buddies and ready to start making his own mark upon the Thoroughbred Industry out from the shadow of his famous mother.
signofthetimes
That remark is just why the diary was stopped.

I will feel the same, just knowing that Our Queen and Our Lil Prince will cry when this happens. O, let’s not think of it.
Marty R / Colorado
Thank you once again for providing us with Zenyatta and 12z’s current news and also the beautiful pictures. If there is ever a chance for some video, we would be most appreciative. Thanks for what you do for keeping Zenyatta Nation in the know.
Christine
Yes! How about a Tasty update? She doing OK?
:o)
Linda Shull
He is gorgeous and they look great together. When will Zenyatta be bred to Tipit?
Amanda
She will go to him whenever she goes into heat in April, so we’ll hear if she’s in foal or not toward the end of May most likely.
signofthetimes
Maybe more at the 60 to 90 day mark as
The Mosses decide.
Cheryl
Will Z12 be safe?????? I just worry so much! THANK YOU for posting pictures!!!!!!
Max
Nothing to worry about. He has Z to look after him. She is 17.2 hands and will always protect her baby. He is never far from her side.

Dear Max and Z Fans:
Love the way Z never lets him out of her sight.
Did some checking on Spooky Minister. She is by Deputy Minister out of Lunar Spook by Silver Ghost. She is a gray. She was born in 2003 and was never raced. Pedigree Query listed three other foals; filly Holloween Candy 2007 (last raced May 2011), colt Holy Candy 2009 ( won MSW at SA on 3/23/12, trainer John Sadler) and filly Scary Ride 2008 (unraced). All of them are grays so probably Z12’s soon to be buddy will be a gray too. Hugs, JB

Oh, forgot to tell you. All of Spooky Minister’s babies are sired by Candy Ride. Hugs, JB

Thank you, Judy, for the info on Z’s new friend!
Max
Judy. Whoever named these foals of Spooky has a good sense of humor, although I am not so sure that I would like to the jockey on a horse called Scary Ride.
Alex Bowdoin, MA
That’s funny…I did not think of the Jockey when I read it!!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I just can’t stop ooohing and aaahing! He is just SOOOO cute! And there is a different “new” picture on Twitter too!! Can’t wait to see Z’s new buddy and her baby. THANK YOU so much to Team Z for keeping us posted!

Thanks, Amanda. What a little man he is. I finally got to see the polka dots on his on-side front coronet band.

Thanks, Amanda- he’s got his ears pricked forward, stretching for the wire!

Very cute photo of him running with his
Head down, like his grandpa AP Indy.
Looks a lot like AP running in this photo.
Katie Clawson
Awe! Glad they are making friends! Z’s prince is TOO CUTE!!
Love, Katie(future jockey)

Yes, Z and Spooky will be friends in no time at all! And the babies will have so much fun playing halter tag!

Sarah Powell, Clemson, SC
So glad to see new pics – look at those ears and hindquarters – growing so fast! Hope we get some video before long – would love to see him running. Thanks Team Z – made my day when I came in and found a new entry.
Andrea
Thank You so much for the new pictures of OUR LITTLE MAN! Zenyatta is clearly a devoted and attentive dam!
Kat
Why is Z’a colt called Z12? :(
Zenyen
Per Industry standard that is his designation at this time until he is given his registered name.
He is called by his mother’s name “Zenyatta” and his birth year “12”
Deneen from NE
Love the photos!! Baby Z looks so much like his Momma — so very cute!! Thanks Team Z for keeping us updated. Ya’ll are the absolute best!!!!
Madison
I wonder how Tasty is…anybody know if she has foaled yet? Tasty is also in foal by Candy Ride!
Alene
Thanks for the updare and photos. You can definately see the protective mom look on Zennys beautiful face. She makes sure to watch his every move. The baby is a stunner. You just want to kisses his head. What a shot!!! Again, thanks to Lanes End for the update.. I hope Tasty is doing ok. I`m beginning to get a bit concerned. Please keep us updated on her….Lots of BIG hugs and kisses to Zenny and her baby, Alene

Love 12Z’s legs! Great for running! So cute!
Thinking of you Tasty, hope all is well!

Just to see if this a smaller world than anyone could guess, Linda, do you by any chance live in the Pittsford/Brandon area? My parents retired there. My optometrist here in California is from Proctor. Small world.
I’m on the Forum as VA_in_CA.
Love the new pictures. Thanks Z Team.
